41  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XPM] Working on a GPU miner for Primecoin on: August 03, 2013, 02:06:34 PM
Okay the new GPU sieve is done, and using a single core of an HD6990 it's around 25x faster than a single CPU core of an x6 1055T. Next up: debugging and optimizing the primality tests.

Thanks for doings this! If u did not spend time doing it, I would and I would probably have failed and wasted a lot of time! Sending 1 BTC to you was probably the best money spent soso far this year Smiley
42  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: AlienCoin on: August 01, 2013, 07:40:58 PM
i am dev n working hard at it. Aliencoin will feAture proof of burn where random value will be the hash of all the blocks from n-past blocks. That way network can verify and at the time of burning the random value can not be known. This way network can not be asic or even gpu mined.

I have telepathic connection with aliens on mars, and they have told me they will donate 50 btc for this project. They have ultrafast computers so we NEED proof of burn or they can 51% attack us. Bitcoin will be doomed.

Im working on the mining pool asap.

All donations much appreciated!

44  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XPM] Why Primecoin Price Has Bottomed Out on: August 01, 2013, 04:34:16 PM
Who-who hold the horses. So you have an insane potential audience for a promotion campaign but have no vested intrest in Bitcoin so you wont do it. Then you say that you were on to Primecoins from the very first day, you create this thread and well... could it be that you will launch a campaign for Primecoins instead? I hope you wait untill the hashrate is sky high before you do it. Also please PM before you start Wink. Kidding aside, I do agree with you. I look at all of these coins not as the future, but as the beginning. Far to many people get trashed by pump n dumps and well, in my opinion these coins here are about something much bigger then that.

For the record, I was also mining Primecoin from day one. Been a Litecoin miner before that and own some Bitcoins as well. Besides those I dont find any other coins interesting. However, if an Asic proof coins comes along that integrates Zerocoin I will be buying like mad.

Fear not, if primecoin fails there will be millions of primecoin alt forks to pump n dump. Kidding aside, I think what all coins need is a Donation needed! thread to show how sincere the devs are. Well kidding aside, for real, what primecoin needs is merchant adoption, like how wordpress with its 96 bitcoin transactions helped to launch bitcoin to the stratosphere. Kidding aside, the competition in the coin space is darn hard right now. I doubt new coins that dont add new value to the users will overperform in the longrun. What primecoin needs are people willing to invest in creating the infrastructure. All coins but Bitcoin has so far failed miserably. Primecoin could turn out differently who knows.
Since Litecoin, Primecoin is the only one to have landed on the hands of many, as the CPU launch gave everyone quite a fair chance of mining, I even got four blocks the first day with my single intel Pentium dual core running the default client.

By comparison, Litecoin was only worth 2cents when it started, Primecoin started with 70cents.

Talking about adoption, even Bitcoin is a miserable failure apart from some tech startups that managed to raise some VC funding.

What we actually need is a large community base of webmasters who, each, have access to thousands of eye balls per day and can throw up an Ad promoting the coin 27/4 on their sites/network of sites. That is why WordPress is powerful - because its users are webmasters.

Hint: I'm among those webmasters, but unfortunately there is no vested interest for me to do so (since I'm late to the Bitcoin game), so for now I better rent that space to traditional advertisers who pay the bill.

Nice thread! Have u been able to find a coin that has proof of burn (or some variation of it)(preferably in combo with zerocoin).
47  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XPM] Working on a GPU miner for Primecoin on: July 31, 2013, 05:58:14 PM
Common now, we all know that software devs mostly just play around in excel cheats and spend a lot of time filling in the timereport (actually the later is true when you have to deal with sap  Tongue)
48  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: CPU friendly Altcoin in development on: July 30, 2013, 07:34:52 PM
Some of you like to see an altcoin that is truly GPU,FGPA,ASIC resistant. We would like to see such a coin too so we have started experimenting. We are working on the hashing function right now. It's radix sort based. We use 64 random numbers between 10000 and 75536 (16^4+10k). This 512 char long decimal number is the 'key'. (If we subtract the 10k on each number block and convert it to hex, it's a 256 long hex string in total [or in other words: 1024 bits].) We then change each number block with a specific simple math function and radix sort them by LSD. This gives us a 'hash' (same structure as 'key'). Using a difficulty is already in place. The above explained process for getting a hash out of a key is also depending on the difficulty. The higher the difficulty the more often the hashing has to be done before getting back a hash (simply said). Validating a hash is based on simple math functions depending on the difficulty. The higher the difficulty the less hashes are valid (simply speaking).

I just want to make sure we are on the right track with this.

Possible improvements: I would like to implement tacotime's mentioned tree search algorithm in topic 64239. But it has to be implemented in a way the search is mandatory and that's very hard to do. We may also should use radix sort MSD and LSD instead of LSD only. What do you think?

Do you have any idea what we should change/add to the hashing function?

Hash, LSD... MSD I never heard of but presumably you should throw a crack | into the mix or something. Will this be traded on sr? Not sure I like this.
49  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XPM] Working on a GPU miner for Primecoin on: July 24, 2013, 04:30:20 AM
That would be a nice thing to do. Perhaps send the PM with download link in the order inn which you received payments from us that donated. That would be nice I think. Naturally those donating earlier on took a bigger risk, it someone else had released another GPU miner. I played with the idea of donating last day but decided against it because Imm not that kind of person. Will it pay of being me? Wink just a thought.

Please give early donators advantage.  Thank you thank you and keep up the good work Smiley

Yup, basically the same story for me. Then again, one mining rig that had this issue stopped having it and have now an uptime of several days. I have not had time too look into it.
52  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XPM] Working on a GPU miner for Primecoin on: July 19, 2013, 05:52:00 PM
Oh my god hathmill MY HEAD IS SPINNING

Yes I know, its crazy difficult deciding on things. I can go on and on about this things. Eventually I decided on donating 1 BTC and if price crashes I will buy more. I seriously think that this coin will be viewed by people outside of the cryptocoin world as a "mature" coin with added value. I can see science people pushing for it and hey that will bring some legitimacy to it along with the inflation side of the coin that I think could help with the fee structure in Bitcoin that I have less faith in plus it is more aligned with the kind of economics that most people are accustomed to further legitimacy. Well, at least that is my bet on what people in the cryptocoin sphere is betting on. Since I think that btc will go down further I think that some will even view primecoin as a hedge against BTC, something that Litecoins fail at. Also this is the kind of coin that will get the attention of the broader coinsphere and as you get network effect going you get price appreciation and then you get bubbles, volatility and much trading opportunities. This in a coin that is still so cheap that you can get a lot of them for little. Because of all of the above I think we will see a speedier merchant adoption. Yes for sure Primecoin will dominate until Zerocoin goes online. Zerocoin, if its properly implemented, is the killer coin that will kill all other coins, especially if it has a proof of work that is difficult to instamine (I would personally go for a combination of scrypt+primecoin since that would make it difficult for asics and still bring bring that something extra bonus to the science geeks). Yea that my wet dream, short Btc, long Prime, short Primes long zerocoin and then bet _all of the money_ on Litecoin being introduced on mtgox.
53  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: PrimeCoin; What's the deal? on: July 19, 2013, 03:38:34 PM
Primecoin will be favored by academia and Thats were the Big money is!!!! Smiley
54  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XPM] Working on a GPU miner for Primecoin on: July 19, 2013, 02:30:53 PM
Lets see, if people are afraid GPU will kill XPM they will sell now, so then I will be able to get a whole lot of XPM for my 1 BTC. Then again, LTC is going up slowly against BTC so I might be better off keeping my LTC, then selling it for BTC to buy XPM. Then again XPM is going up against LTC, so perhaps selling LTC for BTC to buy XPM when price crashes because everyone will sell XPM because there is a GPU mining software might be a good idea. Hm, then again if difficulty goes down because price is crashing, I might as well just mine it with my CPU, but whats the point if prime goes down the crapper because GPU killed it. But perhaps it wont kill it, and if difficulty goes down AND I have a GPU miner myself one week in advance I might reeking in a whole lot more XPM on mining then I would get from buying. Then again difficulty might not go down so much and XPM might not crash and then I might be better of buying this GPU mining sw.

But, I also have to have to deduct the Litecoins I will no longer be mining. Then again, I presume a whole lot of people will stop mining Litecoins in favor of Primes so then its better to be first. So I guess I should donate 1 BTC and probably since Litecoins will go down the drain because of this, I should sell my LTC, to buy 1 BTC to donate.

Hm, maybe I will just wait and see what happens and donate 1 day before release of code to people that donated, that way I will be sure that I did not donate in vain. Then again, what kind of a crappy support would that be.

Also what is the moral implications of doing this? Before I do _anything_ I have to ask reddit for advice.

Oh wait... BTC is dropping like a stone and is almost worth nothing compared to what I already have invested, but have stored in USD because I thought it would drop. So all of this thinking was just totally unnecessary and why not help kill XPM just as I am killing Litecoins with the GPU miner I have running there.

Yeah, primecoins cool so I am going to help bring it down and crush it by donating a few Litecoins in Bitcoins.

Hope this was of help for everyone else who have a hard time making up their mind.  Kiss

55  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XPM] [ANN] Primecoin Release - First Scientific Computing Cryptocurrency on: July 16, 2013, 02:05:05 PM
Maybe we are learning something new about primes that maybe we are not supposed to know. Quantum research and primecoin is not for humans; dont play with things u dont understand.

Quite a few people have posted now saying that they seem to find blocks in quick succession.  I've noticed the same thing, but even to the point where different VPS's (same provider) have all found blocks within a minute of each other but nothing for hours either side.  In the last 4 hours I found 9 blocks all at the same time across 6 VPS's (around 30 mins ago), and then nothing for the 3 hours before that.  I have seen the same kind of patterns over the last few days too (though no normally 9 at the same time!).  Has anyone got any theories as to why this might be?

I have seen exactly this

once one block was found, on one instance....then a whole load more were found quickly by that isnatnce

another that found none never found any

I think findinf say 12 blocks with one instance an zero with an identical instance is very unlikely.....

somethings going on...

I have a few theories
and one is really out there....

Know your market, do research, and honestly if releasing a coin do learn how to code or ut is destined to implode.
57  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The Mainstream bitcoin community refuses to even acknowledge altcoins on: July 11, 2013, 05:55:35 PM
While Bitcoins supply itself can not be inflated, the number of forks can. Each new fork eats into the market cap of btc. People just learning about Bitcoin wrestles with the notion of Bitcoin not having intrinsic value, ie. "Cant they just create new kinds of Bitcoin". Well they are right and yet their fears is misguided because what matter is not the fork itself, but the dedication of the people working behind and supporting the fork. What gives a coin value is the work put into it - therefor you can not simply just fork something and expect it to catch on for the long run. Newcomers might not realize this though. I think proponents of Bitcoin is aware of these issues. I think they think that "if bitcoin can be replaced by an alt, it proves to the public that cryptocoins can not be trusted as a store of value over longer periods of time". Also they probably have a stash of btc, but that I think is secondary. Well thats my thoughts.

I would argue that Bitcoin have at least three flaws:
no built in escrow (solved by zerocoin hopefully)
Waste energy (primecoin seem to show that this must not be so)
centralization (attempt to solve by litecoins/scrypt but far from solved)

Actually I think the third one is unsolveable and also the worst flaw of them all. Strangely this issue is however being solved by the creation of altcoins! Think of it: perhaps asic will dominate Bitcoins, well the total ecosystem will still be decntralized because they can not mine litecoins. But what about fpgaburner or asics for litecoin? Well, its always possible to fork and make something new at little cost that would require much cost in terms of creating new hardware. At least until asic manufacturing has come way down.

So, in my oppinion altcoins is not a problem, its the solution to a problem. What is needed is a multicoin wallet and multicoin payment infrastructure that make it possible for a gadget to be bought by combining several different coins. As a wallet owner you should be able to configure this wallet to your own liking (excluding aliencoin and including bitcoin and what not). Arbitrage botz will make sure that price levels outand switched mining that processing power is dispersed over thw toral ecosystem of coins. This, in my opinion, solves much of the centralization issues.

Sorry for rant also typing on cellphone so sorry for typos.

This is getting a little ridiculous how much the mainstream bitcoin users hate altcoins. People on the forums ask "Is Gpu mining dead, I have blah blah blah can i mine anything?" and people respond that there is no money to be made at all with gpus. The second someone responds litecoin or another currency, they are attacked. I was also watching one of the bitcoin 2013 developer round tables and at one point gavin mentions litecoin and Mike Hearn looks over and gives him the stink eye and Gavin stops mid sentence. They talk about the free market and the ability for people to chose their own coin, but act as if bitcoin is the only reasonable solution. Litecoin might not have much of a difference, but with a market cap of around 600k btc it is petty at this point to ignore altcoins completely. Sorry if this was a little bit of a rant. What do you guys think?
58  Economy / Trading Discussion / Perspicere on: July 08, 2013, 07:32:47 PM
Would you be interested in reading a trading letter?

I have been an eager student of markets (stock, forex and cryptocoin) for some years now and have developed a charting tool featuring proprietary technical instruments that simplifies technical analysis. In my own trading I combine technical analysis (TA) and fundamental analysis and I would love to share my take on the market with other people that love trading, or would love to learn how to trade.

I am researching if there is a market for this. What distinguishes this trading letter, is that the charts are created by my own charting app which features some tools that I have actually never seen on any other trading platform. What distinguishes my analysis from others is that the analysis is understandable and without mumbo-jumbo. No I can not foretell the future, but yes I know where to find strong support and resistance, which is what trading is all about.

This will be perfect for an already experienced traders to get a second opinion on the market and for people who want to learn how to trade but have never done so before.

Yes, this is a way for me to monetize my hobby but to begin with, I am looking for a select group so that I can try out a suitable form and layout of the letter. During this trial phase, the letter will be free of charge for a select group and in return I am hoping for some constructive feedback.

Does this peak your interest?
59  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Who's going to be the first to create a Zerocoin based coin? on: July 05, 2013, 11:52:20 AM
I can see why Bitcoin and Litecoin will not pick zerocoin. Is this where feathercoin steps in? Anyway, when u visit github u soon realize how far from a finished product zerocoin still is. Now dont get me wrong, I believe inn it but when the authors themselves say it is needs some more reviewers u better believe them (and not just start jump on any alt coin that just implemented zerocoin as it is, just to pump their coin [im sure it will happen though]). Zerocoin is the most interesting thing since Bitcoin. Thanks for releasing it!!!!
60  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Most promising Altcoin for the future of mining? on: July 01, 2013, 08:02:27 AM
"ltc dead" that cant bee right. I just looked at it and its still trading on many exchanges and I am mining it along with others. Where did you read that it was dead?

LTC is dead.

All altcoin that is advertised with faster confirmation as a feature is scam coin. Someone says that confirmation in BTC is slow. They change some parameters to make it look faster without knowing anything about security and risks. They can be careless and irresponsible drivers in their daily life.

A lot of people believe in such guys. How stupid they are  Shocked
