41  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Overclock/Overvolt the Avalon6 with a DPS-1200FB Made Simple on: December 18, 2015, 02:20:06 PM
only thing i notice with mine - if there is a problem (too hot, power loss, pool restart) they wont boot at that voltage. if i'm away then they stay off till i return and drop the voltage to restart them.

the r/c guys have lots of good info on many different power supplies as well. some great write-ups with good pictures and explanations.

heres just one example: http://www.rchelination.com/setting-hp-dps-1200fb-power-supply/

well batch 9 is available to order at 2.54 btc. but if you order 50+ they will knock off a couple dollars each (2.53 btc). even better, order 200+ and get it for 2.50 btc

I am buying several from bitmain as i do not want to wait till the end of january. can i have them sent directly to you for hosting?
46  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 6 Miner - Winter Mining - Notlist3d - Also FAQ and Help on: December 13, 2015, 10:50:03 PM
Should be public now.  Can you check?
yup. works fine.

i understand where you're coming from, but then i guess i miss the point of having an electrician. If you're going to go to all the trouble to research everything anyways (my time is worth something to me), why not just do the work yourself as well. Unless you need it inspected. Even then you could do 90% and have a certified electrician do enough to get the inspector to sign off on it.

I stayed up to read the NEC till 6:30am this morning.  I slept until 2:30pm.  It is 3:30pm now.   Grin

I do not see it written like what prelude provided regarding the "feeder to the breaker.'  However, I do see many references of "...marked 100%."  So, I must conclude 80% is the rule for all Main breakers and other breakers installed in the Main Panel or Sub Panels unless otherwise stated on the breaker that is listed.

Now, I'm going to have to determine [After talking to electrician] if it will be cheaper to have a 700 amp service provided by the power company and installed by the electrician to get what I want [OR] get a 600 amp service with special breakers "marked 100%" in special panels.  I'm not sure which will be cheaper but I will find out and pass that information along in the forum.

Thanks for getting me to investigate this more, Prelude.

Now, back to more reading of the NEC 2015.

David

wouldn't it be easier to tell your electrician your expected load and let him size it. save you the trouble of all the research. it is after all what they do for a living.

I think this box does better when it's hotter.  I'm seeing almost 3.4TH now.  Got the replacement HP 1000w PSU and that thing have been quite quiet, knock on wood.   Before I try using part HP 1000W and part EVGA.  Can anyone confirm if the hash board is split left and right or top 2 port and bottom 2 port?

I just open the box and can see the hasboard are split top and bottom so the top 2 ports are of the same board.  I didn't open it all the way as it would ruin the warranty sticker.  I don't recommend anyone using different PSU as the Voltage is different and may cause issue.  I saw my machine show up as 13V and it wouldn't hash after 5 mins so I just change it back to the way it was before to avoid issues.

Also noticed that it reported the temperature all weird as the ASIC normally runs above 70C with the mix PSU configuration, it would show everything in the 40s which is not correct.

P.S Too lazy to black out my username, does it really matter?  What's the worst thing that can happen?  Also I read that the new firmware fix the issue with max Voltage being at 12.8, I'm seeing 13 with the mix PSU due to older firmware.  Should I upgrade?  I also see people reporting 100less G hash rate after upgrading so doesn't seem like a good deal

Upgrade I don't unless there is a big feature or fix they talk about.  Some do every single one.  I'm on thee motto if it aint broke don't fix it.  But just depends on what firmware has.

I think enough people have said it run's better hot... we can get closer to believing it.   I might need to try one in a warmer place and see if I can confirm (and it could very with firmware).

I just like blanking them out.  There is really no security reason, I just don't advertise pools I'm using as I figure it's another topic.  But worst they should be able to do (as long as password is not what you use on site) is mine for you... so you are right not really bad things with it.  Someone might be able to send in crap as you.... but I would guess most pools would see what IP's sending crap.

the thing with these avalons you gotta watch for is the fan speed. Its a big indicator if they are actually hashing. if the fan speed is below 1800 or so, they most likely are not doing anything. look for the blinking red light at that point.

the ghs next to the fan speed will show the speed they are capable of, but doesnt mean they are doing anything. you have to look up at the 5s,1m,5m,15m numbers to know if they are actually hashing.

this is made a bit more difficult when you have more miners showing on that page. If you have 6 or 8 or ten miners hooked together, the quickest way to see a problem is in the fan speed first and the voltage second. then look up above to confirm the hash rate is down.  a bit of simple math will confirm if you have a miner not working.

mine seem to be very finicky at times. some wont take over 12.2 volts or they shut down and start blinking red (which btw the report voltage usually doesnt match my multimeter) and most wont boot above 12.3/12.4. They seem to want to start reliably if voltage is 12.1/12.2 or lower.

s7 price just took a 25% drop. will this affect your price?

batch 8 has been shipping all week. will this move up your timeline?

where did you find that price dropped by 25% ?

4 btc yesterday 3.1 today

? .That not how it work in terms of Price drop . What is price of BTC goes down by 50% it does not mean S7 price gone up by 50%.

true.  although i dont follow the 2nd part. yesterday 4 btc = 1708 (average). today 3.1 btc = 1339 (average). now bitcoin can go up or down, and then they may or may not adjust the price per unit. but yesterday to today 25%(ish). ask the guy that bought one yesterday how much the price dropped.

you said working again, so i assume it was working at some point. i would inspect the cable first. they did have some issues with loose pins and even improperly wired cables. I've had 2 bad cables, so maybe try switching if you have extras. try unplugging and replugging adapter to reset it as well.

It is very stable with 12.6 volts for me using the 750's.  The ones I have on those PSU's have been running since they arrived at 3.8-4.0 Th.  I have tried using higher quality wires vs. lower gauge wires and it seems to have little difference in the hash rate but made a small difference in the voltage.  I suspect Finsky is correct about them except it didn't raise enough to actually kick up the hash rate.

kilo,
is that the voltage shown on cgminer? if so, have you measured voltage at the miner? mine consistently shows at least .1 volts less on cgminer than with a fluke voltmeter.
55  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [lee group]1980$! the sales of first batch hosted antminer s7(psu included) on: December 09, 2015, 02:48:47 AM
my home electric rate is cheap, but i can only host so many there. I would like to have some elsewhere. I was hoping for a discount on the hosting if bought in bulk. no clue what the electric rate is at his data center though.

Quote from pcfli one page back in this thread...

Quote
The host fee for this s7 is 0.1*24*1.3= 3.12$ each miner each day.

I believe that is $0.10/KWHr...which is cheaper than my electricity and no heat or noise to worry about...

i read that as it includes hosting fee and electricity for the .1 but no clue how much each is. if they were ready today i'd lean more toward getting them, but another month and a half makes a considerable change in their profitability.

how are you getting it to run at 12.6? adjusting voltage after its hashing?

i was looking for 10 of these, but with the cost of hosting it doesnt make sense. approx $90 / month each eats up about 1/3 of the profit and makes roi 7 months at best, but with difficulty rising so fast it could more likely be a lot longer. Unit price is excellent but hosting price isnt. Not sure when they will allow you to ship them home to yourself. as of right now they are only allowing hosting purchases.

How's overclocking on these guys? Same string design principal as S5/S7 right? Upping the voltage on S7s really gives them wings. Wondering if these will have similar results. What frequency controls are offered?
it will auto over clock to 4000gh with volts at 12.6. Freq 500

This gear auto clocks based on

volts
temps
 fan speed
 freq control

i've tried several of mine at higher voltage. i cant get any to boot over 12.4-12.5 and then when running they are 12.2 or so. any higher and they just flash red. i thought that firmware upate was to allow them to boot at up to 12.8 but that doesnt seem to be the case for me. I havent tried adjusting voltage after they are hashing.

Hoping that I actually do have 2 x 15 Amp outlets instead of 2 outlets sharing 1 x 15Amp circuit.  My house is older and the labeling on the breaker panel is not great.  Also not sure if they share the garage circuit with another room either.  Will find out soon once my Avalon 6 arrives as I will put it on 1outlet and the 3 Antminers on the other outlet which interesting they made it GFI for 1 but not for both.

My guess would be one circuit shared to the two outlets (and possibly lights and who knows what else). all outlets downstream from the gfci are protected as well, thats why only 1 gfci.
