41  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Bitcoin desperately needs a real estate company on: February 16, 2013, 06:29:06 AM
In the long term I think there is a tiny chance that this will happen. Currently I think it's hard though. Why would I lend money to someone buying a home? BTC is increasing hundreds of percent per year, there's no way the person can earn enough to service the debt...

I think equity is a better way to deal with real estate. It's been 50-75 years since people had any equity. If it wasn't for all this Fiat currency, we'd have equity, not debt, attached to real estate.
42  Bitcoin / Project Development / Back-end web developer wanted. Payment in options/shares/bitcoins. on: February 16, 2013, 06:10:25 AM
TL;DR: We’re looking for a developer with experience from websites that are "alive". Required skills: probably JQuery, JS, JSON etc.

Full version:

We’re currently a team of 4 people who are developing a “betting” game for Bitcoin that’s quite different from satoshiDice. We’re looking for person number 5 to help us with certain tasks.

We have been developing this game for 3-4 months by now, we have the funding in place, the testing is well into closed beta, the system is working well and the marketing materials is well underway. We’ve got a web designer, a designer to take care of the graphics, currently one investor and also a programmer to write the code for the game. What we need is a person who can help us wire up the back-end of our web-game. We don’t know exactly what we need; this is a weak spot of ours, but probably you need to know JQuery, JS, JSON and HTML. The system will work without this software wired up, but it will work way better with it.

It's a big advantage if you have experience with these kinds of things from before, so it’s nice if we can see what you’ve done before. We need fast implementation.

The end result we want is
1) To be able to display the balance of at least 3 Bitcoin addresses on our website. Some calculation might have to be performed before it’s displayed.
2) Data should also be extracted from MtGox, as we want the numbers to be available in both BTC and USD (perhaps even other currencies later).
3) To be able to display a countdown timer on our website.
4) Code that others can understand too (if they know the language)

Payment in shares, options and/or bitcoins.

Please reply below or PM me and we’ll get talking.

An investor and I are starting up a website, and need a web developer. You should be familiar with HTML5, CSS3, JS and have produced some website(s) before. Design and good looks are essential to this project, and skills with Photoshop (or other graphical software) are also appreciated. In addition it would be very beneficial if you can connect to a MySQL DB. The website will have to connect to a DB on the server. Usage of HTML5 templates are OK.

The content of the site is not excessive; for starters there will just be Home, FAQ, Rules and Contact us. When this is made and done beautifully, we will have to develop a page that sends queries to the DB, and some graphs are drawn and the site is updated based on that information. The site is about gambling, so if you have an issue with that it’s probably better that you don’t apply.

Reward in BTC of course, and if your skills are exceptionally good, you might get shares in the venture. Domain has been bought, logo is designed, and we're working on the marketing. The project is already funded, and we’re looking for the best deals out there to do the website.

If you’re interested, PM me something like “I’m interested in web development” and I’ll send you my email, and then you can send me the requested information in an email. Please don't send your credentials in a PM, I want to manage the information outside the bitcointalk system. Please also send us a/some demonstration(s) of your work, and give a short description of what you did on the/each site. Also please mention what price you are guesstimating the development will come to based on the information you have above. A simple cost breakdown would be appreciated but is not required.

Thank you for your time.
Cash

EDIT:
I forgot to mention that we already have the code for the system working. The system is up and running, we're doing testing on it and it works. What's not implemented yet (but is fairly easy to implement) is our systems connection to a MySQL DB so the data can be accessed from a website. That's probably a weekend or a week at max work on my part.
44  Other / Beginners & Help / Probability graph for next block on: January 18, 2013, 03:44:04 AM
Referring to this thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=135604.0

It would be cool if someone could put together a graph that shows the following:
The historical probability that a block is found after x amount of time. So for example when it's been 1 hour since last block, this might be a 5% chance event, and it happens on average multiple times per day. A 2 hour delay between blocks is perhaps a 1% chance, and it happens on average once per day. A 3 hour delay is perhaps 0.1%, and happens on average every 10 days etc.

My numbers are from the air, but you can see the picture.

I think it would be cool to have such a graph, and to be able to understand the probabilities we deal with.
45  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why is there only 2,100,000,000,000,000 (2.1 quadrillion) units in BTC? on: January 18, 2013, 03:23:52 AM
I did a little more research. I think the client is written in C++.
And in C++ you have a 64 bit integer that goes up to 9.2 quadrillion (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Primitive_data_type). So it means that quite a large part of the 64 bits are being used. It also means that the money supply could have been easily doubled or tripled without getting problems of computing it on a 64 bit processor, but this would have a little impact on the amount of time it would take to mine all coins.

Thanks for other good information.
46  Other / Beginners & Help / Why is there only 2,100,000,000,000,000 (2.1 quadrillion) units in BTC? on: January 17, 2013, 08:57:29 PM
Is there a limit in the language that made Satoshi Nakamoto choose to have 2,100,000,000,000,000 (2.1 quadrillion) units?
Basically it goes over 15 orders of magnitude, which is about the same as the USD. (USD goes from about 700 trillion and down to cents, which tecnically is about 16 orders of magnitude. However, those cents are not really very useful)

Given that deflation is built into Bitcoin, it's quite feasible that one order of magnitude will be lost due to loss of wallets etc.

Does anyone know the specific reason Satoshi chose this number?
47  Other / Beginners & Help / Some good videos on antifragility on: January 17, 2013, 08:39:34 PM
Antifragility is an attribute of systems that benefit from volatility. While our fiat economic system is fragile, meaning that if something breaks the whole thing gets bad, an antifragile system is something that when things break, the system gets stronger.

Bitcoin is such a system. The market peak of 30 dollar in 2011 came about because a politician was trying to take down the Bitcoin system, and the bitcoin system took off like a rocket. The more harm people try to do to Bitcoin, the better off the system is.

Here's a few videos to explain more, with Taleb:

Sorry to hear that you lost at9mm.

I would suggest though that you be more skeptical to people in BTC world. Bitcoin is a system where you yourself is completely responsible, quite unlike fiat currencies, which can be much more forgiving in the short term.

I would suggest trying to transfer smaller amounts each time, so that you reduce your risk. And don't transfer more than you can lose if you're not certain that the counter-party can be trusted.
49  Other / Beginners & Help / Bitcoin over $15, what does it mean for you? on: January 17, 2013, 08:02:21 PM
The price of bitcoin is at this moment above 15; 15.57 to be exact.

What does this mean to you? Do you want to buy more, do you have money to buy with, do you have all the bitcoins you want?

To start off, to me it means I've had a good run already. I got into bitcoin quite a few months ago, and then the price was much lower. I liked the idea of Bitcoin, so I bought some. It seemed like a good solution to problems.

Since then I've pretty much bought the amount that I think I want. I think there's always risks, so I never go "all in". But I do have quite a few percent of my portfolio in BTC.

I actually hope that BTC might make me a serious profit. I think our financial systems are having massive problems, and BTC offers a solution. It's not perfect, but it's the best so far.
50  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: google on: January 17, 2013, 07:54:59 PM
Another option is using Duckduckgo.com

It doesn't log your IP address, so might be ok too.

51  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Will bitcoins be illegalized in 2013? on: January 12, 2013, 08:31:51 PM
My hope is that Bitcoin stays under the radar until it's in widespread use, and then it's too late for the government to ban it. Just like happened with alcohol, tobacco and the internet. They got too big before the government could stop it and use their propaganda against it, so they just had to accept it. Perhaps it will happen with Bitcoin too.
52  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Introduce yourself :) on: January 12, 2013, 08:27:26 PM
I'm setting up a new service for the Bitcoin community. I'm quite excited about it. I think you'll all love it when it comes online, hopefully in Feb 2013.

The site is not ready yet, but it will come in some time here:

bitango.me

Maybe you'll be bitangoed?
53  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Whitelist Requests (Want out of here?) on: January 12, 2013, 08:21:58 PM
I'd like to request getting access to talk on other forum pages.
I've been involved in Bitcoin since early 2012, understand quite a bit about cryptography, the basic of elliptic curve etc. I've just set up this profile because I have a new website, and I need someone to write parts of the page.
So I'm basically looking to hire someone to help me. I'll pay in bitcoins of course.

XP in bitcoin: Mining with GPU, mining with BFL equipment, cold storage, buying services in BTC, advertising it to friends, using mixing service and heaps more.

Thanks,
Cash
