41  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How is it insured that only 21 mil bitcoins will ever be minted on: January 17, 2013, 05:47:39 PM
From what I understand, as we go along block halving will continue to occur to the point where we will never see EVERY BTC capable of being made.  It's like dividing a number in half over and over.. you never get to 0.  You can get close but never there.  At some point, if the network is every THAT big that the payouts for processing fees will be a bigger payout than BTC rewarding.

Yes, this is true. After (if) Avalon ASIC hits next week, after difficulty adjustment, expect it to take 12000 MH/s to earn 1 BTC/day. Once (if) BFL gets their ASICs online....well....a lot more will be needed.

I don't think Avalon's small batch will increase the network's difficulty THAT much.  At least not at first.  Not like it will be once Avalon comes out in more batches, and BFL starts shipping.

I would say it depends on when you get it.  Once you receive your product, determine how long it would take to mine a complete block.  If that is low enough to you then don't do a pool.

If you had your 60GH device right now.. then definitely self mine.  You would get through the blocks quickly enough.

If you receive your device 6 months from now when everyone and their grandmother has an asic device?  You will probably want to join a pool.
