I wonder what the ask walls at Bitfinex would look like without all those leverage longs that are put up for sale.

Anybody ever notice how the price drops, then longs increase, then ask depth rises immediately after?

It's pretty smart actually, you create the illusion of sell pressure, and if the price rises on you the only thing that happens is your longs close a few dollars higher than what you opened them for. All that and you never risk your own money. No wonder Bitfinex has so much volume and longs open that never seem to close.

It makes no sense, how do you not risk your own money? What happens if real sell pressure is applied? Your asks are never matched and your longs get closed with huge loss. I don't see how this can work except by pure luck (sometimes).

What I mean is that if you only sell your coins to push the price down and the price goes up you buy back in at a loss. BUT, if you sell coins, some to yourself (to open leverage longs), pushing the price down, you can then put those longs for sale to "create" even more sell pressure, driving the price further down where you can get your "manipulated" cheap coins. If the price goes up on you, those longs you opened will make money, covering the small amount you dumped to try to jump start the panic.

If real sell pressure is applied that means it worked and you can buy cheaper.

The only way this doesn't work is if they don't have huge collateral, and we are talking about whales here, so they cover their own asses. They don't get squeezed like small fish. They can easily push the price back up to close their longs if it doesn't naturally. That's why you see the ask walls on finex vanish as the price moves up. They are just moving their longs for sale to a higher price to get more profit.

Finex?? Some big hidden buy walls again...

Yep. A great way to screw over some bears. Cool

CCMF!

Looks like sentiment agrees with you...
Look at those longs! 24.8 million USD swaps

What exchange/site is this from?

That zany 7.8k coin shenanigan seemed to spark this little rise over $255.

Strange indeed.

I wonder if they started to buy back in. Or when and if they will buy back in.

Sell walls can run, but they can't hide  Cheesy

Where did you learn this stuff about the bots?

Research.
These forums.
"Wall Observing" for 2 years.

Weird shenanigans going on on finex.

seems someone is painting for a big red candle by dumping in his own bids? Weird indeed.
Or Bot gone Rogue. There's a decreasing 20 cents pattern dumping!

I think its a fear inducing stunt for others to panic dump on large red candle so that whale can buy lower.

I know there are some heavily funded bots on finex that trade based on Chinese exchange movements. If someone were to put up large hidden bid walls on finex, and then dump a smaller amount on the appropriate Chinese exchange, it would force these bots to dump down to a certain price. In order to get to that price the bots have to dump large amounts, and will keep trying until completed. This only works on certain patterns and time frames, but once you figure out a bot it is yours for the taking. So you can pretty much steal from someone by tricking their poorly scripted bot into dumping into your bids.

This has happened before so maybe that is what was going on. You will notice things like this sometimes by watching bot walls "dance" with each other on bitcoinity. One bot trying to "scare" another bot into buying or selling based on the wall on the other side. And the fact that buys and sells can happen near the exact same time across multiple exchanges, shows you how advanced these bots are becoming.

TL;DR
Someone probably just got "robbed" by their bot selling coins it wasn't supposed to.

Sells of 1200, 1200, 1200, 1300, 1356, and 1355, all into hidden bid walls.

Not sure how often the BFX stat page updates, but so far no changes in longs or shorts.

I smell bear blood
54  Economy / Speculation / Re: averaging down on: April 01, 2015, 04:05:53 AM
Every time I buy on the dips, I'm averaging my price up, even when I bought at $175 mid-January.

No, I'm not an early adopter (any more than we're all early adopters). I paid double digits for most of my coins, triple digits for some. Never have I paid single digits or pennies.

Same here. Got some close to single digits though, but used most of those on purchases in 2013.

Now I just constantly buy, just about everyday. I try to buy the dips just to have some fun, and screw over the bears (buy the coins at the bottom of a dip that they were dumping to get to). Average is still in the double digits though. As soon as the funds start up I will roll over my 401k and use my companies 2 to 1 matching to grow my stash. That will definitely bring my average to triple digits. I'm a permabull so the only number I look at is how many coins, not how much they are worth.

Pretty obvious the reason for the rise right now.
what is it?

Federal agents stealing BTC is covered in mainstream media in the states.

The rise started before the news.

It started when the bears wasted coins to try and approach 235. Now it must be time for a leg up, in which they will have to buy back at a loss. The news is just a bonus.

Another fake wall at 255 on finex
57  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 28, 2015, 04:47:57 AM
Sissy ask walls = walls that get taken down as soon as you buy a little of it.

Why put them up if your not going to let them go? Oh yeah, manipulation, I forgot.

Another bear trap. Just like $235 but weaker.
59  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 26, 2015, 08:53:38 PM
Do bears not read the news? Who in their right mind would sell right now?

Never mind, someone picking up more shorts. Which is probably worse than selling at this point.
