This is for crazyivan and everyone else who is perplexed at wtf is going on with the markets???. Maybe my view of things resonates with some of you.

This is how I view the markets:
It is incorrect to say that price follows news. I think it is more correct to actually say news follow price but that is also not the entire truth. Price has a tendency to actually "unlock" news. Good times (price trending up) produce good news, bad news get ignored. Bad times (price trending down) produce bad news, good news get ignored, shrugged off.

The market can be viewed as waves in an ocean. Not that market price action is like water but more like water is a good medium that visually shows the movement of energy as it passes through it. For example in this simple animation - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7yPTa8qi5X8
The water does not really move, it is just energy that passes through it because if water moved it would carry the red ball with it. You can make that experiment yourself in the sea or ocean.

So price movements show a wave-like pattern to it. Look at any price chart, at any time frame. This means that as with water it is energy passing through that creates the waves not actual physical water moving (water movement in oceans is brought about by currents but leave that aside for now). The driving force of markets is human passion, it is the energy of human emotion and the ups and downs that come with it. The market is made up of 1000s of individuals who compose this super average being (or "Mr.Market" - B.Graham). The price chart is the emotional state of this creature in time. Every market has its own collective characteristics that make up this "being" - this gets influenced by the personalities of people who actively trade in that market. The gold market has a distinct "being" or characteristic, the oli market has one, the apple stock has one etc.

So since I simplified the market down to a single human (being) level, I can now try to draw parallels from my own life to spot patterns to understand this creature better. Know thyself and you will start to understand markets.

As a human I find that when I have negative periods in my life (and these do come in cycles) there is not that much that I can really do to "get better". Often the best things is to just ride it out. The strong tendency in those periods is to view the world in negative colours. Much easier to see bad things than good. So good things happening to me might only have a diminished impact on my mood. On the other hand, when I am happy, ectatic, I see only positive things. Even small good things might get me excited. Also I might even start to view bad things happening to me as not really that important, I shrug it off.

Both, the negative mind and the positive mind have the ignorance of not seeing the other side of the coin. This is also why the "balanced" mindset is the most profitable one for the trader since from a balanced (emotionally) point of view all the positive and negative aspects can be grasped and evaluated more truly.

To analyse the current situation in the cryptomarket:
There is currently a big Bitcoin wave. The capital in the crypto space is very limited, not enough to go around. When Bitcoin starts to rise it will suck up a lot of capital, since altcoin space is a very easy place to get it from. Bitcoin is ruthless in that matter. This makes altcoins shit the bed.
BUT this will also change. Soon Bitcoin will breath out that capital again and that will have a good chance to ignite a nice altcoin bubble rally. When that will be? I do not know. If I had to guess it will depend on whether bitcoin breaks the ~$775-780 area or not. What I do know is that right now there is a huge sale of altcoins going on that will probably produce nice profits Smiley sooner than later.

glad to see at last someone who gets it here !!!
43  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] FACTOM - Introducing Honesty to Record-Keeping on: November 29, 2016, 08:05:55 AM
its simple, market makers left the building, that's why the price is in a boring sideway with all the good news lol.

Good news should attract tons of new users and holders. How come it does not? This is one strange coin, everything which works in other markets, here means nothing.

volumes on Poloniex are trending down in all coins...
for the leader ETH, both volumes and prices is going down. It means most Polo traders are hurt.

XMR seems to stabilize and has decent volumes now. but hasn't been able so far to take the new lead and go back to its Sep highs.

If ETH or XMR rallies hard, FCT should start to rally in sympathy. It attempted a breakout from the downtrend line. Depending on how you draw it, you may argue we broke it already hence some buys today but it was quickly rejected which is not very bullish...not 100% clear yet, but it looks to me we may finally break it soon...resistance levels if we break 0.032 is around 0.037
44  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] FACTOM - Introducing Honesty to Record-Keeping on: November 19, 2016, 02:26:32 AM
Its clear with the XMR exit pump in August and recent trading on margin alts that Poloniex is a rigged market operating an internal MM system engineered specifically to margin call over-leveraged traders. This is on $BTC exchanges as well which is nothing new but still disconcerting considering crypto markets are generally operated purely by retail traders and very few if any institutional funds. For the market to mature this will have to transition to an orderly market which will likely occur through regulation much like what the equity markets went through in the 1930s; hard to tell when the government will actual proceed with action though since the space is so new and generally the SEC does not move quickly.

I always said it...Poloniex is as crooked as it comes!

yes Polo is acting like a bucket shop with those stop-orders

Where's Grossbit and his minions?

if you look at my last posts, i've been bullish for a while on FCT. click on my history

you see ? there are some people perma bulls, some perma-bears, and traders in between who make money..
46  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] FACTOM - Introducing Honesty to Record-Keeping on: November 18, 2016, 11:07:24 AM
the news about the Gates foundation seems to be confirmed. Its not bearish, so its bullish...

i haven't seen any figure though. If its 10,000 USD its not gonna change the outcome of the project, 100,000 USD either,
but its good for sentiment and shows they can have good communication with people who matters, which is a very important thing in business.

LOL Zclassic hits after only 1 day ZCASH Volume....

I think the Future will really be Zclassic...

ZEC volume is 1425 BTC on Polo today... nobody trades on Bittrex

anyone can indeed click on my name and see i was right on most my market calls on FCT...I invite everyone to do so...

and they will soon understand listening to perma-bulls such like you or Ivan isn't gonna help them....

Can a mod delete any more XEM posts, this thread is about discussing Factom. Take the XEM discussion here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=654845.28540 and stop hijacking the thread, thanks.

+1, this thread is about FCT.

XEM volume and value are going down like hell, soon it will be of zero relevance joining coins like 1CR, rofl...so these XEM trolls are now going into overdrive. The fact that you have to spam the thread of the competing (and miles ahead) technology with spam about a shitcoin is just saying a lot about the same shitcoin.

+2. The NEM/XEM posts began with GrossBit and were followed up by his minions, as has been the case with 3-4 other "controversies" and FUD campaigns over the past two months. Check the histories.

I realize some people on here are nonconfrontational, and some may actually be confused by the sophistication of these guys. If I hadn't spent my professional life studying language and rhetoric, I may have been confused as well.

The latest posts from Troll #1 and a minion (or puppet), just FYI:

https://www.reddit.com/r/factom/comments/5bumdv/fct_price_trading_weekly_discussion_week_of/

Reminds me of a quote from Tennyson: “A lie that is half-truth is the darkest of all lies.”

I'll also repeat what I wrote weeks ago, that one of the main problems with this kind of trolling is that it becomes difficult to tell real criticism from FUD. Factom does indeed have its problems and uncertainties, and all this "crying wolf" threatens to obfuscate the real issues when they arise.

Anyway, looking forward to M2 when the trolls have a change of heart—or disappear, and another round of noob hypers jump on board, with remarkably similar writing styles to the previous trolls ... Wink

Great post. Couldnt agree with all you wrote more.

if you quote me, quote me fully

1- i've turned ST bullish on FCT a few posts ago (up to 0.0041-0.0425 area) and favour a BTD approach from now on.
2- Ostrich policy won't help you make good investing decisions. XEM volume is much lower than FCT. There are quite some negatives on this coin
but this Apostille announcement is a new positive surprising element in a coin which had been in a constant declining trend for a while.

At this stage, XEM market cap is more than twice FCT (but volumes much lower). You'd be an idiot to ignore whats going on in this coin
51  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Thoughts on Zcash? on: November 13, 2016, 10:17:59 AM
This doesn't make sense - gold and silver markets are manipulated DOWNWARD, not upward. I believe this is done via "naked shorting" - currently the infrastructure to naked short bitcoin does not exist. If the Fed prints money to buy up gold or bitcoin, they make it more valuable, and thus more likely to be held.

You are talking about a different effect here.  The "naked shorts" imply a confusion between "paper gold" and genuine gold.  In fact, paper gold is like good ol' fractional banking.  As long as there is a "parity" between an once of paper gold, and of genuine gold, it seems as if this naked shorting is creating gold out of nothing and is causing inflation.  However, this is actually only inflation for paper gold.  When there's a lot of naked shorted gold (paper gold), it is the opportunity to acquire cheap physical gold, because when the bubble bursts, or when it deflates, the whole market cap of paper gold will go to physical gold.
But this is not the action of the FED.  The action of the FED is to buy gold when it is expensive, and to sell gold when it is cheap.  That sounds like a crazy doctrine, because normally you lose when buying high, and selling low.  But if you can print money at will, that is no problem.  What happens when doing so, is that the FED increases the volatility of gold, and "stabilises" the paper dollar.  In doing so, it pumps effectively the held value in gold into the dollar.  When gold is expensive, its policy makes it even more expensive, meaning that people have to spend a lot of value on the little bit of gold they can acquire.  Later, when the gold price diminishes, the FED throws even more gold on the market, making the gold that people held, less worth, so that they can obtain much less value against it.
For any other agent, this would be a terribly lossy and expensive thing to do, but as the FED can print the money it likes (and is "backed" by the very stuff it is buying), it doesn't cost the FED ziltch doing so.

In fact, the naked shorting of gold counteracts the FED's manipulation.  I'm pretty sure they don't like it.

There's nothing that can stop the FED from doing exactly the same with bitcoin: buying it against printed dollars when it is high and selling it (absorbing dollars) when it is low, increasing its volatility.

Quote
The only thing that would make sense to kill bitcoin would be to "corner the market", which will be difficult for even the Fed, given that bitcoin has an $11 billion market cap right now. Remember also that as the USD price of bitcoin goes up, forex arbitrage opportunities present themselves...

Suppose the FED is willing to print $50 billion dollar to "own" bitcoin, what would be the problem ?  It could print 50 billion, buy up all bitcoin, which is then "backing" the printing of those $50 billion.  When the FED has bought 4/5 of all bitcoin, and people have been spending fortunes on the 1/5 that's left, the FED sells its stash of bitcoin all at once, crashing the price.
All the value that people had been spending on acquiring that 1/5 of bitcoin is now gone (into dollars printed by the FED).

And the cycle can start over.

Value is pumped out of people wanting to store it in bitcoin.  Like value is pumped out of people wanting to store it in gold.

There is no naked shorting of Gold, thats BS.

Gold contracts are deliverable. like the US Tbond contract. But usually only a small fraction of Open Interest ends up in delivery. Because most longs in the futures don't want to get delivered anything. so they rollover their positions. Same with sellers. When there is a imbalance, arbitragers come in buy in the cash market and sell in the futures (or do the reverse). Usually arbitrage is a competitive (balance sheet intensive) business, and typically, depending on the cost of balance sheet usage, they would take such a position to make 5$ to 10$ per contract. The cash and futures market are linked by this arbitrage, and if there was a higher price discrepancy, within a few hours, or more likely minutes or seconds the price discrepancy would be closed due to some bank profiting from the arbitrage.
52  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Thoughts on Zcash? on: November 12, 2016, 08:19:01 AM
i've warned you,

ZCash is not designed to be a coin, its designed to suck off money from noobies and ignorant people into dev / miners....

The trend is clear, even if it will take a LONG time. we are heading below 0.005 BTC folks. Too much inflation.
Many said it didn't matter. Of course many of those saying this were the miners... Disregarding inflation is like disregarding the beautiful mathematics behind cryptographic schemes.

The situation will stay dire for years because so many coins are mined. There will be no usage for ZCash when it cannot be a store of value. Even if the price crashed immediately, people would not touch it because of the incoming supply. It took years for BTC to become mature and stabilize a bit its volatility, it would be the same for ZCash. However in the meantime, confidence will have been lost and the market will already have focused on coins with better technology and supply/demand situation.

XMR is showing renewed signs of life. No tsunami of supply, an implied valuation much cheaper than ZCash, and soon a lot of new features. I can easily see it going back to ATH and more...
Those who keep bidding or holding ZEC will deserve their fate... they will be ZECKT.
53  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] FACTOM - Introducing Honesty to Record-Keeping on: November 11, 2016, 03:27:58 PM
just saying, I mentioned Apostille and NEM the other day,

today, FCT is down 6% XEM is up 14%...

I would not make too much of it yet, because volumes in XEM are low and its very illiquid, but its a bit funny...
54  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] FACTOM - Introducing Honesty to Record-Keeping on: November 11, 2016, 12:59:29 AM
BTW in some sense, BTC is already inferior to many other newer blockchains

Factom is really a BTC/ETH app and inherits from the security of those 2 blockchains.

XEM would be better IF its security was equivalent to BTC which it has no chance.

I rearranged your post a little to analyze it. Can you clarify your argument as to why NEM isn't as secure as BTC and which alts you consider superior to BTC?

XEM or really any other blockchain today isn't as secure as BTC because the tiny size of their network make it vulnerable to things similar to 51% attack...
detractors of BTC would point out that a lot of BTC nodes are in China, which is not a good thing either.

on the specs side, XEM and many other blockchains are superior to BTC.... XMR has stronger anonymity, ETH has smart contracts, etc...
55  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] FACTOM - Introducing Honesty to Record-Keeping on: November 10, 2016, 10:02:10 AM
Some people asked how Apostille is different from Factom.

NEM process seems to be much simpler, but I have a question:
the integrity of the fingerprint is proportional to the blockchain security, I mean, are NEM and Bitcoin blockchain security comparable against attacks?

I think here you have the whole selling point of Factom

Factom is really a BTC/ETH app and inherits from the security of those 2 blockchains.

XEM would be better IF its security was equivalent to BTC which it has no chance. Its a bit like the chicken and the egg. If everybody decided that XEM was cool and secure then everyone would use it, but nobody does...

That confirms what I've said and being accused of FUDding:

Factom tech is inferior to other techs. However, it 'works' (or will work). They have plenty of salesmen and if they have a finished product, they might sell it. Its not always the best tech product which gets most sales. There are a lot of different parameters. Being first to market is an advantage and I believe Factom has it still. If they cannot make anything out of it, they will lose.

BTW in some sense, BTC is already inferior to many other newer blockchains
56  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: which currency is good as bitcoin?? on: November 09, 2016, 11:48:24 AM
There is still none, is there any coin you can use to buy drugs or guns yet?. Most  of these project have not really differentiated themselves from Bitcoin but rather a speculative tools relying majorly on the success and glory of Bitcoin

ZEC, at least today...

its the Trump and Dump

You need to trademark that. Another few days and some decent opportunities will be around methinks.
Stocks have been slaughtered, only pulled a little bit out in the lead up, ahh cautiousness my old friend. Didn't actually expect it could happen.

And Crazy, FCT still higher than last week. Not everyone measures in btc. Buy my dinner with dollars personally.

i don't change everyday my opinion, i turned (moderately) bullish on FCT, and today is/was just a buying opportunity
58  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] FACTOM - Introducing Honesty to Record-Keeping on: November 09, 2016, 10:49:27 AM
So I just sent some Factoids to a wallet and the transaction completely disappeared. This is my Txid: bc803a5d597ee76526d1acae8fbd4fb5320c6ec4db1ca9d73141bdcd9e5aee57

Not sure how this happened.. I can't find the transaction on the Factom Explorer either.  Cry

maybe the transaction was never confirmed in the first place ?
59  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] FACTOM - Introducing Honesty to Record-Keeping on: November 09, 2016, 05:01:25 AM
How does this coin manage to dump down top 27 again on the verge of M2 release. LOL.

Makes zero sense?  Any thoughts on the dump?

its the Trump and Dump
60  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] FACTOM - Introducing Honesty to Record-Keeping on: November 08, 2016, 03:53:15 PM
Oke that was a short lasting rally up Cheesy

We need some serieus increase of entry credits or even i might sell half my statch to take some profit.

About 30k new entries per day. It s slowly speeding up but I agree, these price manipulators distort the price big time. I also feel like selling my stash. Factom has started delivering but somehow I feel marketing part is again not at the level where it should be. NOWHERE I was able to find any news about this important test phase besides on this forum or reddit. Getting really tired of this shit.

30k new entries per day, at 0.001$ per EC, thats 30 USD. HUGE...
