41  Bitcoin / Mining support / modminer quad no lights, no detect on: July 24, 2013, 04:25:40 PM
quick question. recently acquired a modminer quad and i understand they're finicky but for the life of me i cannot get it to power up the board.  tried the wire reset and multiple psu's but figured i'd ask as i don't have as much time to tinker as i used too.
42  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Project Evil Genius – Custom SHA2-256 Circuits on a FPGA on: July 22, 2013, 07:02:49 PM
Only if you were here a year ago, now this is a bit late if not obsolete very soon. I'm hoping the best and I'm very interested to see how well you manage to do with this project.

Yeah, looking back on this, I should have skipped the Crypto Extractor/Dominatrix Engine and went straight for the FPGA. But the good thing is there still a huge demand out there. The ASIC companies cannot meet demand, but how long with that be? But that is playing the “what if” game, and I have learnt to never play that game.

But on the flip side, there is a ton of FPGA miners out there. If I can give them a large boost in performance, it might make them last a little longer. Also there is scrypt (Litecoin) after this. Since scrypt uses a SHA-256 circuit, I can re-use it. I believe there still time for Litecoins.

But there is one more big plus. I might be able to work with an ASIC company. They would love to have a design that can drastically increase performance, which can give them an edge over their competitors. And if I can get it working on a FPGA, it just proves the design works. Plus, I was an Electrical Engineer with a proven track record with papers and patents, before becoming disabled. So there is still a large benefit out there. But this is majorly putting the cart in-front of the horse. I still got a lot of work to do, and being disable it comes and goes. But it looks very very promising right now, and I have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

your work is appreciated, im going to run mine until it costs more in power than its worth just to contribute to the network.
43  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Options for dealing with Avalon? on: July 19, 2013, 06:51:34 PM
I tried calling yifu for days 2 times a hour. I probably got him on the nerves really... he didnt answer, half the time it stopped automatically after 28-30 seconds, the remaining time he stopped the call before. Later i opened a ticket and wrote why i cant let it slip and he answered that he has bigger problems to solve and my chip-problem isnt due yet. Fine... at least an answer. And if he really solves everything correctly before shipping ok. But last time the ticket was solve half only, i hope he still puts time in to solve such errors.
But i really dont understand yifu. He could hire a support person but he wants to do all himself. And that means he has not enough time to do all himself.
I will never ever order anything at avalon... at least not until he changed his mind about support.

with as much money as that company has tied up in coins it is probably a safe bet that they screen everything and everyone thoroughly.  Its amazing something bad hasn't happened yet given everyone knows who he is. I'd not be interested in support staff as much as a body guard with the shipping snafu's that have occurred recently.

Note: I'm biased , I did not order because it seemed the lot size of batch 2 and 3 got way above what they seemed to be able to deliver effectively.

46  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How come there is such a large btc price difference between mt gox and btc-e? on: July 18, 2013, 04:40:00 AM
The spread between Mt.Gox and bitstamp is nearly $7.  The discrepancy between Gox and bitstamp is occurring because traders on Gox are buying BTC with their USD (funds can still be used but not withdrawn), transferring it to Bitstamp and Btc-e and selling it for USD.

Once people discover that Gox is illiquid, BTC will skyrocket on Gox as everyone converts fiat to BTC, while simultaneously prices will become depressed on the other exchanges as users sell for fiat.

it will certainly be interesting to say the least. it only takes a bit of panic to spread the wildfire.

its not great but it's something and it's immediate. not many people are looking for fpga's anymore. basically once we agree to terms we pgp sign a message to John K who then I pay the 4BTC to as well as a 1.5% escrow fee.  He holds the money until i receive the goods and then he releases the funds from the escrow account to the address you specified in the contract.

55  Economy / Gambling / Re: BFL 500Gh/s mini rig raffle on: July 05, 2013, 06:32:12 PM
500 hundred tickets would be more fair, both from the issue of your profit, and the chances of winning. $75 is alot for 0.05% chance of winning. I doubt you will get 2000 sold.

considering i mined most of mine at sub $2.00 per BTC i think its a more than fair gamble. everyone compares to fiat currency when it shouldn't be.  that's bitcoins main issue at the moment. everyone is tying it to usd. also the reason every worldwide currency is currently de-stabilized.
