but what happens if your website goes down? Or the server goes down? I have no way to retrieve my bitcoins?

Under account preferences there is a tab called "recovery" where you can (and should) download a file with all your unspents and keep it secure.
With it you can redeem them without using the Melis server, if things goes wrong from our side.

This file is updated each time a new transaction is made in the account, and the client stores it in the localstorage memory so if you forget to save it you can retrieve it from there clicking on the download icon.

With this file you can redeem the unspents also of multisig accounts: each cosigner of the account can (and should) save his file, but only one of them is sufficient to recover all the funds.

Multisig accounts that requires a server side signatures generates a recovery file with nlocktime transactions that will expire in the future, so you have all the benefits of a server imposed restrictions (TFA, spending limits) but still be able to recover funds in case the server gos AWOL.

The tool to use to redeem funds from the recovery file is opensource so you can download it on your pc:
https://github.com/melis-wallet/melis-recovery

There is also an online version here: http://recovery.melis.io/

If you want to test it with testnet coins the address is http://recovery-test.melis.io/

You can try Melis Wallet. RC1 has been announced a few days ago, we had very positive feedback. See: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1952287.0

You can have one wallet for all your devices, in which you can create multiple accounts. You can make a savings account, set is as "secure" and it will show only on the primary device (desktop, for example) and hidden from all the others using plausible deniability so it is not possible to know it exists.

Can you choose your own fee rate on the android version? Most android wallets offer a few fixed choices like low priority, high priority, etc. Few android wallets let you manually set a specific fee rate, and that's a must have feature with the high number of unconfirmed transactions in the network.

Actually it is possible to select 4 levels of fees (low, normal, high, very high). We are evaluating to add an "advanced" option that would allow to define a custom fee (or maybe we will add a slider which acts as a multiplier of the basic fee from 0.X to Y).

48  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: A "Pay to many" wallet for android? on: June 06, 2017, 10:22:46 AM
Melis wallet for Android has pay to many capability, and you can customize fees to a certain extents.
It even supports RBF so you can start with low fees and raise them if it's not included in a block for a certain time.

How is this different from other wallets? Support for altcoins is enabled?

The main differences are:

- Shared multi user/signature accounts with configurable schemes.
- Multi-device wallet, with security features (accounts can be hidden with plausible deniability on secondary devices).
- Read the announcement :-)

If we have enough demand to support altcoins in the future we will consider it.

Melis Wallet

We are glad to introduce you to Melis, the revolutionary multi-account, multi-user, multi-device, multi-OS, user friendly and feature-rich wallet.

How to use it?

Android: search “Melis Wallet” on the play store.
IOS: search “Melis Wallet” on the Apple app store.
Desktop: you can download it here: https://melis.io/download.html
Web: https://wallet.melis.io/

Testnet

If you want to test Melis without using real bitcoins, you can use the Testnet version.

Android: search “Melis testnet” on the play store.
Desktop: you can download it here: https://www-test.melis.io/download.html
Web: https://wallet-test.melis.io/

Why another wallet?

Other existing wallets focus on safety or ease of use, but not both. There are simple wallets for smartphones without security features or very secure desktop wallets for managing your savings that are quite unpractical to use.

Melis offers the best of all worlds: simplicity and security for desktop and mobile, in the same application.

How is it done?

With Melis you can create as many single or multi user accounts as you want. An account is a “sub-part” of your wallet, customized for your needs. You can choose the level of security, and the number of co-signers. Accounts are completely independent from each other, as if they are different wallets. Every account has its own balance and addresses.

A wallet can be configured on more than one device (Home computer, smartphones, tablets..). An important concept in Melis is the “primary device”. The primary device, which can be your home computer or another computer dedicated to the management of bitcoins and nothing else, is always able to access to all the configured accounts. The first instance of the wallet is considered the primary device but it is possible to elect any other instance (but only one at once) as primary device. Each account can be configured as “secure”, which makes it visible only on the primary device.

For example you can create an account with maximum level of security (protected by server signature, with spending limits) for your savings and flag it as secure (it will be displayed only on the primary device), or a simple account (single signature) for day to day spending, available on all the devices.

In the image below are represented some use-cases. Anyway there are endless possibilities:

There are already other wallets that can create multi-signature accounts pretty easily, but the key schemes are fixed and not configurable. With Melis you can create a multi-signature account between N people, where up to N signatures are required to sign a transaction, choosing if any of those should be mandatory.

In the image below you can see an example. To send a transaction Paul and another co-signer must sign the transaction.

Is it safe?

While Melis is still a Release Candidate and there could be possible bugs, we worked hard to avoid putting user funds in danger.

At beginning of 2017 we released a beta version to a number of testers and no dangerous issues have been found so far.

It is possible to configure spending limits in a time period, by account. Even if a thief gets access to your private keys or to your wallet, he would not be able to spend more than the limited amount, and gives you enough time to prevent further thefts disabling the compromised device or securing (hiding) the accounts.

Who knows/handles the private keys?

Melis and its servers never handle user’s private keys. Each user is in total control of their own keys. It is user’s responsibility to secure at least one backup of the credentials (mnemonics).

On GitHub it is possible to examine the source code ( https://github.com/melis-wallet ), and possibly rebuild the application yourself.

The future

We have a rich roadmap with lots of exciting features to be added. Follow us to get updates. You can subscribe to our newsletter through our website https://melis.io/ (very low traffic).

Melis is and will always be a free wallet.

Who are people behind Melis?

Melis is a company made of skilled developers with a deep passion for Bitcoin since the early days.

Why should I test it?

Melis has a common goal with members of the community: build a free, trustless wallet for everyday (personal and professional) use and to securely keep the savings.

The project is huge, our team is working full time since almost 3 years, and any feedback from bitcoin users from all over the world is both useful and highly appreciated.

So, imo, bitcoin is in a in tip-top shape, there's nothing to worry about.
I've been reading this kind of quotes since when bitcoin dominance was around 90%.

So, my question for you is: at what % will you start to worry?
58  Local / Italiano (Italian) / Re: Melis Wallet - https://melis.io/ on: March 30, 2017, 01:25:55 PM

Come aggiornare

Bisogna semplicemente scaricare la nuova versione, installarla, e il vostro wallet sarà aggiornato, o alternativamente utilizzare la versione online http://wallet.melis.io/ .
