41  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / PowerColor 7950 Temp Spikes to 100C on: April 16, 2013, 01:35:33 PM
I asked this whilst I was only allowed to post in the newbie forum https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=177430.0, but I'm hoping to have more visibility posting it here in the correct place.

I have the PowerColor 7950 http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/components/amdradeongraphicscards/amdhd7950series/ax79503gbd5-2dhv5e.html and I'd like to give it a go at Bitcoin mining when I'm not using my PC (Litecoin possibly but would like to get my head around bitcoin first as there is a lot more information at the moment)

I'm running CGMiner 2.11.3 with intensity of 13 although this also happens if I don't set an intensity, along with the Catalyst 13.1. As soon as I start CGMiner the temps spike up to 100C and the fan is going at 100% which obviously isn't a good thing Sad

I've tried using Afterburner to lower Memory clock to 625 from 1250, however I get the same high temps. From reading this section for the last few hours a lot of people seem to talk about tweaking the voltage settings, would this help me and should I be tweaking up or down?

Gaming with this card is fine, it just appears to be when mining this happens

Any help much appreciated

thanks for the reply, I've not used Furmark before but just gave it a go and temps maxed out at 72C with 100% GPU load.

this is also after setting the memory clock back to its default of 1250 which seems more reasonable to me. Gaming has always been fine, just seems to be bitcoin mining that causes the temps to spike!

Anyone have any suggestions, could it just be this card doesn't support bitcoin and I should just stick to gaming with it, or could it be some driver issue with the version of CGMiner I'm using?

I think so, this is what I have in Afterburner and also in Caps Viewer:

Do these look correct?

I'm going to use my Powercolor 7950 for some casual Bitcoin mining when I'm not gaming, however when I gave it a try this evening the GPU temp spiked to 98C and hovered there with the fans running at 100%.

Using MSI afterburner I've set the following values, however it still spikes to this high temp:

Core Clock = 925 (This is the card default)
Memory Clock = 625 (Card default was 1250)

I'm using CGMiner v2.11.3 with the default settings, and I've just upgraded to Catalyst Control centre 13.1

Has anyone got this card or have any ideas why this temp would spike so high?

Thanks
45  Other / Beginners & Help / ZTEX FPGA 1.15d or 1.15b on: April 06, 2013, 08:50:41 PM
I currently have a GPU that I use for occasional mining when my PC is on, I'm looking to have something running more permanent such as low powered FPGA board.

From reading this forum ZTEX seem to be the best option, however their 1.15x and 1.15y versions appear to have disappeared from their shop. They still have the 1.15b and 1.15d options, although I'm wondering if these are any good? According to this website http://www.ztex.de/btcminer/ the 1.15d can perform at 215 MH/s, has anyone used this before?

I have a spare Raspberry PI I've been using for experimenting, and I'll be using the MinePeon in this post https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=137934.0 to control the mining hardware

Thanks for any help offered
