This is the official Bitcoin forum, started by Satoshi, so it's not going for a huge profit.

But they do take donations, and they have a donator rank for people who donate BTC10 (and VIP for BTC50).  The price of Bitcoin has gone up quite a lot since those ranks are set so currently they're kind of ridiculous, but I bet the forum received a lot of donations when the price was lower, which will definitely help them now.

Is this a transaction from your Blockchain wallet, or just a transaction which you were viewing on their block explorer?

Because their block explorer is not necessarily a 100% accurate account of all blockchain transactions, nor is it official, so the transaction may still go through if it doesn't appear on there.
43  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will Bitcoin overcome Paypal? on: March 06, 2017, 07:07:18 PM
Do you think that sometime in the future, Bitcoin might overcome Paypal, as it scales in capacity and userbase over the years?

We already have the ability to create our own marketplace with OpenBazaar, that uses Bitcoin as its payment method, so it should be no surprise that the combination of these two may be a fierce competition for both eBay and Paypal.

Nevertheless, feel free to vote on the poll above and express your opinion about it, if desired.  Grin

Paypal is many steps further than bitcoin but we can't say that bitcoin will not pass paypal in the next decades.

But paypal is stronger and is used worldwide and in lots of website (not saying all), wherever we go to purchase something the next thing after the credit card form is the paypal checkout so if paypal would collaborate with bitcoin then there would be the strongest payment processor ever.
Paypal may be strong and fast but unfortunately not only is it centralised, it also allows chargebacks which makes it near incompatible with Bitcoin (where the possibility of near anonymity makes a lot of people attempt scams).  Once Bitcoin's slow transaction problems are sorted with SegWit or something, it may well be able to surpass PayPal as in many aspects it is fundamentally better.
44  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Is Coinbase.com Reliable? on: February 19, 2017, 09:53:28 AM
They're reliable for what they do but not necessarily good.  I quite like Blockchain, and there are also cold wallets like Armory which are more secure for your specific accounts.  They are also, as other people said, pretty restrictive. If you open a wallet with them it won't be the end of the world but I would suggest looking around more to find what the best wallet is for your needs rather than going for a particularly popular one.
