401  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Wal-Mart Sues VISA for $5 Billion Over...(Guess What?) on: April 01, 2014, 02:44:35 PM
Well Wal-Mart isn't it time you started accepting Bitcoin?

i think it would make walmart more money because it would cut down on processing fees. i think walmart really should consider bitcoin as a payment method in the future

It would make far, far, less money, because people would only be able to spend money they actually had right then, not buy on credit.
That would reduce WalMart's profits far more than the couple of percent they pay to Visa.
402  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Wal-Mart Sues VISA for $5 Billion Over...(Guess What?) on: April 01, 2014, 12:44:38 PM
Is this the Beginning of the End for conventional payment processors like VISA & MASTERCARD (and Rise of the Bitcoin)?

No.
403  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Did the IRS make a big Loophole mistake? WHOOPS!!!! on: March 31, 2014, 02:02:40 PM
Your thinking is way off. The IRS has (correctly) determined that bitcoins are not manufactured goods, instead mining is a service, for which miners are paid an income. You contribute your computing power to secure the network, you get paid bitcoins in exchange for your contribution, and those bitcoins are taxable income. It's so simple only a tax denier could dispute it.

according to this bitcoin is officially legal tender/real money in the US.

No it isn't.
People seem to have a very vague understanding of what the phrase 'legal tender' means.
It doesn't mean something is or is not money, or currency, or legal.
It means something that when accepted as payment of debt must be accepted as extinguishing the debt. That is it.
Cheques are not legal tender, credit and debt cards are not legal tender, PayPal is not legal tender.
That doesn't mean you can't use them to buy things.

I just talked to a Danish journalist, she's doing an article on cryptocurrencies for a major newspaper there  Smiley

The problem there are many exchanges full of garbage coins, why don't you try a serious exchange that its not full of stupid worthless coins? Why don't you try exchanges like www.btc-e.com, www.binaryfund.com, bitstamp.net, they are serious premiums exchanges and its what spaincoin needs

So those are good exchanges because they don't just add all the new garbage coins that come out... and you want them to add this garbage coin?
405  Other / Archival / Re: delete on: March 31, 2014, 12:19:20 AM
So it's actually Peercoin centralized checkpointing?... I thought automatic would mean pretty much what markm said, written automatically after N blocks. Is that kind of system flawed?

It's a decentralized system.. nothing can both be automated and secure without some kind of peer agreement.

Quote
+// Concepts
 +//
+// In the network there can be a privileged node known as 'checkpoint master'.
+// This node can send out checkpoint messages signed by the checkpoint master
+// key. Each checkpoint is a block hash, representing a block on the blockchain
+// that the network should reach consensus on.

That is not a decentralised system.
406  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][AUR][MANDATORY UPDATE] Auroracoin - a cryptocurrency for Iceland on: March 28, 2014, 12:19:41 AM
To me it looks as if
* there is a correlation between the number of transactions, and the minutes needed to generate a valid block,
* and this correlation has become stronger since yesterday.

N.B.: Correlation is not causation. The slowing down can have many reasons. I just saw this pattern in the data.

Your correlation is the wrong way around.
The longer it takes to solve a block, the more transactions will occur during the wait, which can be included in the block.
Pools regularly update the list of transactions they include in the block they are trying to solve.
407  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SPA] SpainCoin: freedom for Spain - hardforked to Scrypt-N UPDATE WALLETS on: March 27, 2014, 07:35:03 PM
What's funny is the guys in their community think there's some evil hand forcing the coin's price down

Pot. Kettle. Black?
Don't you also think there is an evil hand (called multipools) forcing your coin's price down?

in fact, exactly this do not mean that "beginning of shippment is on march" is taken back! both are possible together, the old one is not broken!
March in in Q1.
Saying shipping in Q1/Q2 says (to anybody other than you, apparently) that they are not promising to ship in March.
I don't think anyone could sensibly read 'Shipment begins in Q1/Q2 of 2014' as actually meaning 'Shipment begins in March 2014'
exactly shipping IN q1/q2 is meanig:  shipping beginns between januar1. and march 30., and ends between april1. and juny31.!

or bettween q1 and q2 what exactly is march 30. at 12 pm.

No, it doesn't.
You can say it as much as you like, but no native English speaker would agree with you.
Shipping in Q1/Q2 means shipping in Q1 or Q2, that is anywhere from January 1st to June 30th.
That is simply what it means
409  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: March 27, 2014, 07:15:01 PM
they have never taken back this Statement!

maybe we european ppl are different to us ppl. for us, a contract or Statement is valid till it officially taken back! this is a unwritten law!

Here in the real world unwritten laws are imaginary.

They actually did take back the statement when they replaced it with the statement " Shipment begins in Q1/Q2 of 2014"
So they will not be late until July 1st

maybe i am silly and aq Kind naive but:

i only decidet to order neptunes in sight of this Statement above.
Even though the actual Neptune announcement clearly said Q1/Q2?

Quote
i only didn't spend BTC to other preorders, in sight of this:

"If we do have more items to place in the shop for our 28nm range, we will announce this via one of our newsletters which will contain the time and date that they will go on sale. So keep some coins handy as we expect them to go quick."

so i trusted them. too bad!

they screwed me, and i past the possiblity to order other Hardware wich was delivered allready.

they has to compensate me for thair faults!

Not a chance in hell, I'm afraid.
You can get a refund if you want, but they bear no financial responsibility for your actions.

Could Mazacoin be tax exempt given that it's on Native American reserves?

What does on mean for a virtual currency?
412  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: March 26, 2014, 11:54:10 PM
Whatever KnC said earlier in the NPS, the CA Neptunes were "Q1/Q2" shipping. Therefore they aren't late until 1st July.

Don't get me wrong, I'd prefer my Neptune tomorrow...(I really hope they ship soon). I'm just saying that it was crystal clear when we pre-ordered that it was "Q1/Q2" shipping.

for me this means Q1 AND Q2 ; not or.

Q1 for first Batch , Q2 for following Batches.

maybe

Q1 for first half of Batch 1, Q2 for the rest.

That's ... just silly.

KnCMiner Network Protection Statement
At KnCMiner we are aware of the service we are providing to our customers. We are also aware that we need our customers to have a return on their devices in order to purchase form us again. With the scale of the supply chains, agreements and factories we have access to, we need to be cautious we don’t ship too many devices and therefore reduce the return to our customers.  So with that in mind our plan is to do as follows:

We will ship no devices in December 2013, January 2014 or  February 2014. Meaning that once we have taken the difficulty up at the end of November we will not release any more hashing power for 3 months. We will then release our new generation of devices, which will begin shipping in March 2014. These devices will also have a much higher GH/$ rating than any of our current offerings.
We would like to state that If any of our competitors continues to add large amounts of hashing power to the network during December, January or February. We will continue to release our devices as competitively priced as we can to protect our customers share of the network.
The Fact is:
As of April 1, KNC will be delay in delivery of Neptunes

Doesn't that statement predate the announcement of Neptunes?
It certainly doesn't form any part of the contract you agreed with KNC.

KnC itself, has also been associated with the statement after the announcement of the Neptunes.
and it thus verified to be valid
:

To repeat: It certainly doesn't form any part of the contract you agreed with KNC.

Yeah, I do agree it should be forked now. But the point I meant was, if being somewhat cynical, maybe it's not being forked now so Boxxa/AP can scoop up tons of maza on their own, mining. Then they fork after news comes out and prices go up. They end up with a lot of maza they otherwise wouldn't have if they changed miner rewards right now.

And the reason you want it to be forked has nothing to do with wanting to increase the price of the coins you already have?
Or is that more than somewhat cynical?

According to KnC's news announcements by email to customers then to news postings on their web site, originally they said:

Customer appreciation batch ("CA") was to ship Q1/Q2 with first open to public ordering batch shipping 3 to 4 weeks after CA batch shipped. Call those CA batch and batch 1 respectively.

Batch 2 was to ship Q2 but only after CA and batch 1 had already shipped, most likely 4 weeks after batch 2.

This means for batch 1 to ship in a timely matter in line with their statements it cannot ship later than the end of Q2, which is June 30. That means the latest CA batch can ship is the first week of June, allowing 3 to 4 weeks prior to shipping. If they stick to their emailed and public statements, KnC will move up the shipping of CA batch to some time in May, followed by batch 1 also some time in May, with batch 2 shipping in June.

KnC probably won't agree, but shipping CA batch any time later than first part of may makes them late, in my opinion.

No, shipping CA on June 30th, batch 1 on July 30th and batch 2 on August 30th would make batches 1 and 2 late, but batch CA on time.

must delivered q1/q2

when q1 end?
and when q2 end?

You've just been told that.
Q1 is the first three months of the year, which ends on 31st March.
Q2 is the next three months of the year, which ends on 30th June.

To be fair, the deliberately misleading headline is directly from the Torygraph.
