Bounty sent to northranger79510 for the great new website! Nice work!

Thanks! Bounty will be used to buy hosting for RiecoinFoundation.org.

gatra: any updates besides the website?

I pushed to github a few minutes ago. I didn't tag it yet, but everything is there on the default branch.
It is needed to recompile everything:
- the riecoind daemon had a bug in submitblock (until now all miners used getwork instead of submitblock, but stratum-mining uses it)
- the stratum-mining also had bugs in the RPC call to submit a block
- fixed a bug with 64bit-overflow in the cpuminer that made it hang and test the same range over and over

Now blocks are showing in my wallet (tested with testnet).

Please test!

After this is confirmed to work, it looks like my next urgent task is an open source optimized miner. I understand how to optimize mine, just didn't have the time to do it yet. My cpuminer is probably the fastest of the ones that use the 2310 primorial, but those using larger primorials (dfg, supercomp) are much faster....

Thanks for the patience,
gatra

and if it works... please donate!

Thanks for the update! Cheesy

So I still have like a week of syncing needed. Is it safe to sync or wait?

Really tempted to buy some HVC but without dev. updates, no confidence in this coin yet. Oh the temptation.

gatra: any updates besides the website?

Well he replied to me asking him to post the Foundation link. He seems busy. Plus he usually only post things or updates on Update Thursdays although hes on daily.

407  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / The Riecoin Foundation on: March 18, 2014, 01:48:09 AM
Hi Everyone,

Because of Riecoin is growing into a big community, I figured we need to form some sort of organization in order to become more organized. When we unite as one, we are able to finish a lot more quickly than if we are random scatterers on the web doing their own thing. It might sound absurd but I would like to give this a try. I am forming a Riecoin Foundation. The only purpose of the foundation is to equip Riecoin with advance weapons. In other words, our purpose will be to gather funds and allocate funds in order of priority that the community will decide on using a voting system. I have already registered RiecoinFoundation.org. I will also donate 200 RIC to this foundation, in addition to the 150 RIC bounty I might receive for redesigning riecoin.org.

The foundation will be semi-trustless so you can rest assure this is not a scam in anyway nor will the Riecoin that the community donated will vanish in the future. We will of course be requiring donations from the Riecoin community for things such as hiring more developers to work with Gatra to relieve some of his stress that he has been accumulating, creating an android app (I might be able to help), paper wallets, etc. If there is no donations, there is no foundation and Riecoin needs an organized unit right now more than ever if we are going to stand out from the oceans of crypto-currencies already out there.

Now let me get to the semi-trustless part. For this to work, we need a minimum of five people who can dedicate themselves to the Riecoin Foundation. The Riecoin donation that we receive will go into an exchange of our choosing, hidden information from the public. The address will of course be available 24/7 for the community to check the amount inside the wallet. There will be 5 people who will each hold a part of the necessary information to withdraw Riecoin from the wallet. The first and second holds the username and password. The third holds the 2 factor authentication code, the fourth holds the email confirmation that will be required to withdraw Riecoin, and the fifth will hold the QR code required to enable 2 factor authentication in case the third person goes missing. Of course, drawbacks to this is that it will be troublesome and inconvenient to withdraw Riecoin for bounties but I would rather choose security over convenience. This system could fail if all of us decides to work together or if the exchange we hold our Riecoin in gets "hacked", but I see no other options. Keeping it inside the client would not be as trustless since you only need 2 people to work together to withdraw the Riecoin from the wallet (the wallet.dat file and key).

Right now, I am just taking names of all those interested. You can sign up with the google spreadsheet link provided below. I will be PMing those on the list.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0As6q17G29AHxdFNybXhyWDlJS0ZXZDZUeXRRRVVxZnc&usp=sharing

Schedule (not set in stone):

March 15-March 29: Foundation sign up.

March 30-April 4: Create a trustless system for the community to donate Riecoin

April 5-April 6: Upload Riecoin Foundation to riecoinfoundation.org, announce the team, get started.

April 7-ongoing: Get community members to donate and find ways to improve Riecoin using donation by providing bounties for:

Android App
More Developers
Marketplace
Wallet Design (like Particle)
Widespread Merchant Integration with bounties for the first couple that accept Riecoin

And the list goes on.....

409  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][RIC] Riecoin, new prime numbers POW coin, CLIENT UPDATE v0.8.7 AVAILABLE on: March 18, 2014, 12:57:22 AM
Actually - for the next few days:

Does the Riecoin foundation exist enough to the point where there's an address I should add to the dev fee list (replacing part of mine)?
To be frank, no it does not yet. Right now, we are just finding people interested. Once that is completed, we will have to figure out a trustless system so that people who donates Riecoin can rest assure that the foundation will not take a single Riecoin out without permission from the community. We want it so that the foundation and Riecoin will not be labled as a scam in anyway. Website designing for Riecoin has already started but it won't be published until the foundation is established with a trustless system. Unless you can trust me with the Riecoin (which is idiotic and senseless to trust one entity with an organization funds), it will take at least a month for the foundation to be established correctly.

Timeline (not set in stone):

March 15-March 29: Foundation sign up

March 30-April 4: Create a trustless system for the community to donate Riecoin

April 5-April 6: Upload Riecoin Foundation to riecoinfoundation.org, announce the team, get started.

April 7-Indefinite date: Get community members to donate and find ways to improve Riecoin using donation by providing bounties for:

  • Android App
  • More Developers
  • Marketplace
  • Wallet Design (like Particle)
  • Widespread Merchant Integration with bounties for the first couple that accept Riecoin

And the list goes on.....

EDIT: If you'd like, create a wallet address of your own dedicated to the Riecoin Foundation so when the time comes, you can transfer the coin inside your Riecoin Foundation wallet to the actually Riecoin Foundation wallet.

Hi, this is my first post here:)
I'd like to share my RIC solo-miner code, embedded in riecoind.

So they try to sieve for 4 chains specifically at the expense of finding blocks?

This means, as of now when you are mining in a pool, others are stealing your block-solving capabilities.

A quick solution: release the most optimized, "cheating", miner for finding shares specifically. If everyone has access to this miner, people will no longer be "cheating". Yes, the difficulty might fall and pools will find less blocks, but it will only be fair to people who can't modify their mining software to cheat.

Yup.  And - they could be, depending on what the pool verifies as a valid block.  There's an earlier discussion about this, but it's a little more tricky than I think gatra, jh, or I thought it was now that the sieves are getting huge and the diff is up.

As an example, I tested three variants of my best miner:
 - Version (a) is a "cheat" miner:  It ONLY looks for 4 chains;
 - Version (b) is a "50k-fair" miner:  It sieves all six spots to primes < 50,000, just like the open source version does, but then it sieves out the first 4 to 1 billion;
 - Version (c) is a "block-hunter":  It sieves all six to a billion.

Version (a) and (b) were indistinguishable.  Which means there's no profit with a fast miner to having a worse block-to-share ratio than the average person does.  Version (b) is what I'd been running myself previously and releasing.

But version (c) is what you really want your miners running, because it finds a lot more blocks.  But it produces *shares* at only 66% the rate of version (b), even though it finds more than twice as many blocks.  I'm now running version (c) because I think that even though it helps the pool more than it helps me, my smaller-slice-of-a-bigger-pie wins out.  But it's tricky.

What we need to do is determine the right incentive structure to make miners want to run version (c).

One answer is that maybe a00k or supercomputer's code doesn't have the same 1/3rd slowdown for all six that mine does.

  -Dave

If it's 66% then it can be solved this way:
a block is a 6tuple of primes, <p1, p2, p3, p4, p5, p6>
For shares, we also allow the last 2 numbers to be composite instead of primes, like this:
<p1, p2, p3, p4, p5, c6> or <p1, p2, p3, p4, c5, c6>
so 4 primes and 2 composites make a valid share.
If we allowed the following cases to be shares too:
<p1, p2, p3, p4, c6, p6>
<p1, p2, p3, c4, p5, p6>
<p1, p2, p3, c4, c5, p6>
<p1, p2, p3, c4, p5, c6>
Then versions (a) and (b) would miss lots of these cases, loosing their advantage. The best share-finder would be also the best block-finder.

I see only one drawback: currently a miner can stop testing if it finds something like <p1, p2, p3, c4, ??>. After the 4th test you know that you won't find a block or a share. But with this modification, the miner has to do 2 more tests because it could be a valid share of the form <p1, p2, p3, c4, c5, p6>.
This means the pooled miner has a small overhead compared to the solo block-finder that stops after the first composite. However this overhead is really mnimal: how many 3ch/s are you currently having per cpu? less than 1. Probably one 3ch every 10 seconds or more. That's how often you''d incurr in this overhead.

Currently, my stratum-mining accepts any combination that has at least 4 primes as long as the first one of the 6tuple is prime. I'm testing more carefully and I have to sleep now, but if everything goes ok we'll have full working new versions of the client, miner and stratum server during tomorrow.

Thank you for the effort and contribution Gatra. The community will try its best to support you!

I'm glad I'm not mining RIC anymore, 3-5 guys are mining 50% of the coin, super fun! No wonders why this coin is dying and price 1/10th of what it used to be, it's a dump festival!

Problem with this is that all coins have this problem..not just RIC. Because RIC only has 1 pool, it seems like a tragedy but every single coin has this problem. If you don't like it, buy 1000000000 cores.

Yep, this coin is DEAD

I really doubt this coin is dead. Sure it is low volume but people are still mining this whether to dump or to hold. So its farrrrrr from death. I don't know how you guys define death? Price dropping? Because that would be pulling the trigger before gun is loaded kind of thought process.

Any other interesting CPU-only coin to mine?

Primecoin is the only one I know of.

Datacoin, Riecoin.

I have a simple idea to solve the "trust" issue. If he agrees, we send everything to gatra in order to safeguard them. Simple as that ...
Yeah, that is an easy way of doing it... If gatra steals the funds the coin will have no future (creator is scammer).

I agree, although I hate to ask Gatra to take on another responsibility. But yea, he can't steal the funds because they'd be worthless pretty damn fast.

I disagree on this because it leaves money in the hand of one unknown individual. Although I trust gatra, doing it that way is too illogical in an organization sense. And I agree with Remi that Gatra shouldn't take on too many responsibility. From what I know, he has outside work beside  developing Riecoin. The point of this foundation is for Gatra to only focus on Riecoin development and to relieve him of some of his stress, not add on to it.

The foundation should have a trustless or close to it system.

Wow this coin dropped since I last saw it. Interesting coin. Good thing I held myself back from investing that time. Might invest now depending on the community and how active dev. is.

For the foundation, I will be PMing those interested in 2 weeks to gather ideas on how to actually implement a trustless system that everyone agrees on. Until then, signups are encouraged. All we need from you is time and dedication.
420  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][RIC] Riecoin, new prime numbers POW coin, CLIENT UPDATE v0.8.7 AVAILABLE on: March 16, 2014, 08:03:37 PM
Guess the majority of the community (or the one that spoke up) wants Option 2 in the design. I will make fixes with suggestions from the members to spoken up from btctalk and rictalk. Give me a week max. Work has me handling 3 projects so I am swamped. Meanwhile I will ask Gatra to post it live first. It only needs some minor cosmetic fixes so I don't see the problem not to go live with it. Better site = more people interested.
