401  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XCP] Counterparty Protocol, Client and Coin (built on Bitcoin) - Official on: April 21, 2014, 05:11:10 PM
...

FYI: there is no fee required to issue assets via the Master protocol and this feature will go live in the next days.  Smiley

Cool so instead of paying a one off $1 you just have to buy most of the coins in existence, stripping the value out of every bitcoin raised by handing it over to mastercoin holders that sell into the staged and over inflated price? I'm interested how does this work when you need to fix the price of mastercoin for 2 fundraisers/token issuances or whatever at once?... doesn't matter I'm pretty sure this is the last.

Has the world gone mad totally mad or am I dreaming.  Huh

People fall for marketing. Cryptocurrencies are pure psychology. That's why it takes so long for legitimate and innovative projects like Counterparty to get noticed, they simply blend into a panoply of shitcoins...

I wouldn't use Mastercoin as toilet paper. It reeks of arrogance and greed.

Yeah, put all your pump and dumps together instead of something useful like counterparty  Roll Eyes  Roll Eyes  Roll Eyes

I haven't touched my XCP yet because I don't feel like speculating with them and I haven't had another need for them yet. This will come, in time. By that time I think it will be easier to use also (web-wallet was a big step forward in that regard). And by that time marketing on the consumer side will become truly effective.

In short: However you phrase the fact that Counterparty is a revolution in finance. Fact is that until people see what exactly this revolution changes and how it is beneficial to them, they will be reluctant to rally behind it.

Nicely written text, one thing missing though: the letter R in Counterparty (first phrase) Wink

Excellent post, and thank you for pointing out my typo. I still think it's a bit more readable than the current text on counterparty.co. Maybe I'm wrong. I'll let the people decide. Smiley
405  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XCP] Counterparty Protocol, Client and Coin (built on Bitcoin) - Official on: April 15, 2014, 11:51:37 AM
The low prices of counterparty really make me believe that 99% of people are functionally retarded...

PS: I edited the about section a bit, let me know what you think:

Counterparty is a Revolution in Finance

Counterparty is a peer-to-peer digital asset exchange, betting platform, and derivatives market. All transactions are secure, atomic and trustless thanks to the automatic escrow system. Clever use of decentralization and cryptography removes all counterparty risk. (http://www.investopedia.com/terms/c/counterparty.asp). For the first time in history, no middleman is ever needed.

Counterparty lives on top of the Bitcoin blockchain and inherits its security. Its network stores protocol data in regular Bitcoin transactions. Counterparty’s suite of financial tools is built entirely on open source protocols and software, and development is driven by volunteers and funded by donations.

Counterparty’s native currency, XCP, has 2.6 million units and is slightly deflationary. XCP were issued by ‘proof-of-burn‘ in January 2014, in one of the fairest coin launches to date.

Why should I pay attention to XCP and not to MSC?

What is the latest comparison of these two?  How do Ethereum, Colored Coins, and ProtoShares compare?

To be honest, I think Counterparty has the least self-interest, and probably the most dedicated/talented coders. It seems they are doing their best to think years ahead.

How is this a comment from a bright individual you can reach out to? It's just another Luke Jr.

What we are against is extorting other participants of the bitcoin network into processing your transactions which were not in the original social contract of bitcoin, especially when clearly explained alternatives exist. That is frankly evil, although I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and chalk it up to ignorance. This time.

I think that the ability of getting XCP with proof-of-burn should be postponed to the time when there will be a stable client. It will help the distribution of the coin. If not there will be another distributed exchange with large-holders(who risked their money into a thing that didn't worked at the time) which will be very unhealthy for the counterparty system.

I think your suggestion is very good very correct
The proposal should get their research
Hoping to solve

This doesn't make sense. The proof of burn is over. It has been since January.

What are you even talking about?
410  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XCP] Counterparty Protocol, Client and Coin (built on Bitcoin) - Official on: March 27, 2014, 11:36:24 AM
Can anyone tell me what happened in the last three days here? Any reason for the recent little price drop?
What about something like this http://www.nxtcoins.nl/50-2/ for Counterparty?

And another, more general question regarding the DEX: Can I atm only trade BTC to XCP on there or more? Let's say n the future there will be more con (LTC for example) can I then, after I bought LTC with BTC on the DEX, withdraw those LTC into my LTC wallet?
Not really. You can only trade assets issued in the DEX (BTC is the only exception), not other coins, unless someone issues an asset here to 1:1 map that coin and you trust him/her.

This may be possible in the future, who knows...
411  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: What's wrong with these blockchain.info graphs?? on: March 25, 2014, 10:25:09 AM
Blockchain's graphics on "number of unique bitcoin address used" and "number of transactions excluding popular addresses" show huge drops that never occurred. What's wrong here?
https://blockchain.info/charts/n-transactions-excluding-popular?timespan=all&showDataPoints=false&daysAverageString=1&show_header=true&scale=0&address=

I wonder if it's reflected in the actual csv... That would suck

An simple idea that seems to have been ignored on the official forums...

Wouldn't it be easier to just allow dots in the asset names (hint:  Global_trade_repo's hierarchy idea)?

That way BTT.UNIQUESILVER and BTT.RARECOIN would not collide with someone else's UNIQUESILVER and RARECOIN?
As suggested by Global_trade_repo, the asset names with dots in them could cost less to issue.

Not only that, but the buyers could be more confident that the assets were issued from BTT without rechecking/verifying the description/catalog.  An impostor could issue a VERYRARECOIN with a description poiting to BTT's catalog for example.  But the impostor cannot fake a BTT.VERYRARECOIN asset if it's required to own the BTT asset first.

We should also allow other characters such as #, $, %, and digits after the dot in the asset names.  So BTT can issue BTT.SILVER$100  or BTT.GOLD#1906 for example.

Otherwise, assuming a business can issue 100000+ assets, how does it go about organizing/tracking assets efficiently?  It much easier to match BTT.GOLD#1906 or BTT.RAREGOLD#18394 from a catalog than to search for BTT.GOLDXFR and BTT.RAREGOLDSXR to identify the asset.

If Counterparty is a protocol like TCP/IP, then we will need a flexible asset naming scheme that works almost like the domain naming system.

Upon first glance this seems pretty damn genius. It's genius because its so simple its almost obviously the way it should be. I hope the developers strongly consider implementing this or something quite like this, as soon as robot/human-hybridally possible.

Edit: That being said this may be something left to other developers to build on top of Counterparty, but I think its fundamental enough to be included in the protocol layer itself.

Think:

Code:
Issuer.Issuance.Sub-Issuance

And so once an issuer name is chosen, that issuer can create other issuer names of course but they will be the only ones who are permitted to create issuances and sub-issuances relative hierarchically to their issuer name.

And then perhaps blockscan can implement a nice new GUI feature which will allow for collapsing and expanding assets based on this hierarchy of issuance. This will make searching for assets and trusting assets that are issued much much easier and much cleaner of an experience. Good idea GLaDos.

Edit 2: In addition, fees can be adjusted, say... maybe 5 - 10 XCP more or less to register an issuer name, but the issuance might be half that and then the sub-issuances might be even half of half etc., This makes sense to me, but I'm waiting for someone to tell me I'm an idiot or that its not feasible as is common round these parts. -___-

I can't agree more.
This is so beautifully simple it should have been designed that way in the first place!

I wonder how this will affect pre-created assets should it be implemented though.

Agreed this is perfect +++

I don't see why xcp and msc can't coexist, I think there are some frightened investors over there :/

hate to reiterate this, because the phrase is so worn out, but

first they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.

Where's Snoop Dogg?

Man if snoop knew about being able to buy grass with BTC, he'd be like 'awwww shieeeet"

I don't think the fee should be destroyed. It would be a much better idea to pay it to Bitcoin miners or XCP holders. No? Maybe I don't understand it well enough.

But yeah 5 xcp seems a bit much.
417  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XCP] Counterparty Protocol, Client and Coin (built on Bitcoin) - Official on: March 16, 2014, 08:32:59 AM
On a positive note here are the trade volumes of the leading Bitcoin 2.0 projects within the last 24 hours:

1. Counterparty   154 BTC
2. Bitshares-PTS 152 BTC
3. Namecoin       149 BTC
4. NxT                 143 BTC
5. Ripple               84 BTC
6. Mastercoin       38 BTC

These numbers courtesy of coinmarketcap.com
I'm not sure if they include DEX Txs
Still interesting though, considering Counterparty has "near-zero" coordinated marketing at this time,
whilst I'm sure the others have sizeable budgets for such undertakings. Smiley

Counterparty is vastly superior and not based on developer greed. Thats why.
418  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XCP] Counterparty Protocol, Client and Coin (built on Bitcoin) - Official on: March 13, 2014, 06:28:14 PM
Asset fees should not be burned because then we are diminishing the total supply. Since there is no mining, or additionally BTC burning going on, why don't we change the protocol to distribute asset fees among all holders of XCP?
419  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XCP] Counterparty Protocol, Client and Coin (built on Bitcoin) - Official on: March 06, 2014, 06:16:49 PM
I was searching for mentions of digital currency (or digital cash) before 2009. I found a paper by Tetsuo Tanaka: https://www.isoc.org/inet96/proceedings/b1/b1_1.htm.

It's from 1995 and this graph seemed quite interesting:

I think we are in the confusion stage. Look at the Satoshi story, or CNN talking to the "CEO of Bitcoin"....

Haha at this part:
"Its transnationality has the potential to cause conflict between cyberspace and nation-states. If digital cash spreads successfully in the 21st century, its history may be written as a record of its battle with nation-states. "
420  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [FLAP] - FlappyCoin - Help needed - Lot of Bounties on: March 06, 2014, 07:11:24 AM
I think flash games could actually profit from flappycoin, because the target demographic is very different than the btc or doge communities for example. This is a whole new audience, and uses a flash game meme with an interesting creation and deletion story. Basically flappycoin already has certain ideology and 'mythology' inherent to it...

This means that the core factors are humor and simplicity. I think theres even videos of a dog playing flappy bird. That's how accessible the game could theoretically be.

Flappycoin the blockchain mmorpg.. ?
