Great piece!
Well worth the read...

So, when we ask the question, what needs to happen for the mass adoption of bitcoin to occur; the answer is just time. .................................. Its adoption really is inevitable.

The comments are more worth reading than usual.
402  Economy / Securities / Re: [NastyFans.org] NASTY MINING | POOL | COINS on: December 10, 2014, 08:15:29 PM
I have reached an agreement to purchase 17 ASICMINER direct shares on behalf of NastyMining for 1.5 BTC.  At 0.088 BTC per share, I believe this represents a good value.

Good timing! current value is almost twice that with news about the new chip tests.

I've opened a thread for those who may want to purchase a "Stay Nasty" T-shirt and weren't looking to take advantage of the FREE T-SHIRT offer for pre-ordering a 5oz coin.  You can view the thread here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=888762.0

Shirts are priced at $20 shipped in the US and include a $10 donation to NastyFans!

I should be able to pre order the 5oz soon. Mainly for the free shirt Cheesy

bids are piling up with about 50BTC vying for shares @ 0.1 or above on HI.

Get a room

Let me get this straight. NotLambChop, the uber troll who's stated sole raison d'être is to indulge in the euphoric buzz of schadenfreude , has to not take things personally to avoid being hurt and has a tender moment of sharing and caring with chairforce1?  Well, alllllrighty then!

I wonder what is known that we don't know concerning AM? Why would someone be buying right now? There is no public information that would warrant this.
406  Economy / Economics / Re: If Bitcoin were backed by something. on: December 04, 2014, 05:31:25 AM

If I say asset X is backed by asset Y, it means that I personally agree to give you asset Y in exchange for asset X at the agreed upon value.

So, to initiate a "backing" you need a central issuer (in this case me) to make the promise of future exchange between the two assets.

Generally, you should see that I used the word "backed" and realize that I am probably lying to you.  The history of this word has only shown that it is used fraudulently leading to defaults.  Even when an individual or group fully intends to trade the asset for the paper when asked, often circumstances lead to default.

Well said.

Thanks,

WHOOOAAAA HOLD UP what do you mean " when amhash contract termination " i thought we held amhash fund till we sold it and wanted to get rid of it. Kinda like lifetime contract like cex.io has with their services. If they are going to end when amhash pays dividends when will that be? Need a date even if just a guess is fine

When the price of maintenance eventually equals the btc mined with the equipment you bought, they sell it, you get the proceeds in a final div, and the contract is terminated. Higher difficulty and lower btc/usd prices would make that happen sooner. Of course, lower difficulty like what just happened, or higher prices would keep you in the game longer. You are effectively buying a miner (with the same risks of dwindling profit) and plugging it in to their hosting center.

Update

we will be rewarding all of our existing customers with some awesome rewards that will let you earn even more.

The wording makes it seem like current holders were going to get an extra reward. Offering 5% to new (and existing) customers who are willing to buy 100Th/s or more doesn't seem to be a reward to existing holders.
409  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 03, 2014, 01:23:03 PM

Means there is a chance of the coins going to be dumped on exchanges at sight?

Or just manipulation to scare people and lower the price?

I have a funny feeling Citi and the other "prospective bidders" are selling the story of bidding on the coins at a great discount in order to get the other bidder to low-ball the bid so they can get their coins at or just under market price.

No bidder would willingly show their hand, seems like a classic poker bluff to me.

Citi is not an auction participant AFAIK

I have no idea why Citi would have anything to say on this action at all. Why are they voicing an opinion?

Not coal but this Christmas will definitely be leaner than last. Luckily, no need to dip into the wallets for it.

How the hell does NotLambChop do it? How is he so good at trolling? The guy is an obvious troll like 98% of the time, everyone says he's a troll, the guy even outright admits it occasionally, and he STILL baits people into responding to him.

Either he is the best troll of all time, or a lot of you are very easy to troll. I'm putting my money on the latter.

He's not the best but this forum is fertile ground right now with a possible shift in market sentiment after a long bearish year. He does work at it very diligently, posts a LOT with more than full time job hours spent doing it, and is mildly entertaining at times. There will always be people who are easy to provoke with emotional reactions to someone who is willing to admit they just have a strong impulse for schadenfreude and do it for the "lels". http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2014/11/141126094055.htm

You need to stop letting your wife tell you what to do.

250 x $360.8 = $92.450 current USD value in bitcoin. I'll bet you got less than that for the ones you sold. You would've been better off keeping your btc till today.

She doesn't tell me what to do.  We discuss options.  It's called a partnership.
The minute you start to think that you know everything, you know nothing.

I'm confused with your calculations.

EDIT:  The decimal point confused me.  You are correct.  No regrets though, it has been an awesome experience.

Sorry about the decimal, it was supposed to be a comma.  Your words "insistence" and "nagged" make it seem as if she may have very strong influence in your trading decisions. I understand it is tough to make decisions on trading and hindsight is easy. As long as you had fun and are swimming in the new pool with the wife it's all good.

EDIT: LOL @ grappa_barricata

Them too. I bet LambChop is butt-hearted because he spent his coinZ. I surely won't sell him mine. Not before $20,000 pages. Grin

I sold 200 BTC at $50 dollar increments above $100 on my wife's insistence.  I'm still pissed about those trades.

But I forgave when she nagged me to dump 50 BTC at $1150.

We're in the superstitious zone. 300 EU is holding until CNY goes to 2300. Then pushing to 400 USD. The next Rule of Thirds at 430 to 460 should start soon if Black Friday starts a rally.

But we all know in reality it just ends with people dumping.

Until it doesn't.

Speaking of odd things to bring up, why are we you talking about beanie babies again?

Because the parrallels with Bitcoin are amazing.  Down to artificial scarcity being used as a marketing gimmick.  From wikip:

"The company's strategy of deliberate scarcity, producing each new design in limited quantity, restricting individual store shipments to limited numbers of each design and regularly retiring designs, created a huge secondary market for the toys and increased their popularity and value as a collectible."

That's where Satoshi got his inspiration!

You're going off the rails on a crazy train. Get out now while you can.

I own a beanie baby

I'm definitely getting one, just to be able to do what you just did--tell people I own one.
Awesome conversation starter.  And stopper.  Every marketer who calls will learn about my Beanies!

*post pics?

It'll look really groovy next to the little pony collection.

And odd thing to bring up, but yeah, I suppose...

nice try, try harder... tehehehehehe

What are you talking about?

you are trying to be on 10K pages and... the pages are deflanationary   Grin

What we need is a blockchain for the wall observer thread. It could be 51% attacked and posts could be deleted but it would be expensive in hash power.
420  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 23, 2014, 03:22:27 PM
Strange activity on the walls and in the thread. Unexplainable

It's more important to be on page 10k than managing your wealth, is it not? Tongue

Well, what has longer term benefits?
