401  Economy / Economics / Re: Peter Schiff on Bitcoin on: November 07, 2013, 05:29:18 PM
Regarding the claims that Peter has been wrong.  Peter's predictions are based upon a long term view.  He looks far into the future.  To say he's wrong is premature.  I believe he is right about the USD etc.  I compare Peter to Galileo.  Galileo was persecuted and highly ridiculed for his idea that the earth revolves around the sun.  Peter's ridiculed for his predictions as well, the difference being, Peter is not being arrested and jailed.  Peter uses "economic physics" to make his predictions.  His ideas are based upon math/physics.  The USD will crash, it's not a matter of if, it's when.

Regarding bitcoin, Peter has a hard time understanding/recognising it.  I'd like to explain it to him like this:

A new "precious metal" has been discovered using new technology.  This "precious metal" has unique properties unlike any other.  It can only be viewed using this new technology and can only be created with this new technology.  The intrinsic value of this new "precious metal" only visible using this new technology.  etc. etc.

Peter argues that gold/silver have stood the test of time and have always been real money.  But what he has a hard time wrapping his head around is how a new technology can create a new form of real money.

I have 0.4 btc earning on 12.25gh, so that's about right.  Seems 0.025 short compared to Perseus though.  They had me at 11gh for a bit till I complained that I wasn't getting a 20% increase on my 5gh July contract.  So maybe they didn't give me any lost/past earnings.

But I wish they had a better UI.  My iPhone can't navigate it.  They need a phone friendly UI or an app.
404  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Will a Sep/Oct KNC jupiter ever ROI? on: November 03, 2013, 05:48:25 PM
I've mined with a Jupiter for two weeks now, made 12 BTC. Won 18 BTC gambling in the same period, so I'm almost break even!
How'd you do that? Gamble that is?
405  Economy / Economics / Re: Peter Schiff on Bitcoin on: November 03, 2013, 09:06:18 AM
At the same time I think Peter has a vested interest in not supporting bitcoin.  It steals customers from his gold silver business.  I've personally invested thousands into bitcoin where I would normally buy gold silver from Peter.  I don't think you can use the analogy of people blindly trusting central bankers the same as they trust bitcoin.  I think a better analogy would be trusting gold because of the chemistry that backs gold.  I.e.  It's molecular weight, atomic mass, etc.  Bitcoin's trust is within the realm of mathematics and gold with physics.  Central banking is all emotion, human, and full of error.  Understandably bitcoin was created by a human and physics have been created by humans, but they serve as boundaries for bitcoin & gold whereas central banking has no boundaries.

Another Peter Schiff bitcoin bubble speech.  I don't think he understands it.  He's a free market guy.  The bitcoin economy is full of free market forces.  I wish someone would call him on this point.  I'd do it but I suck at articulating my thoughts on the spot.

Variance. Just because a calculator says you should be getting say 2 bitcoins a day (in theory), doesn't mean you will be able to actually earn 2 bitcoins a day in reality. It all depends on luck of the pool, your hashing speed (stable, unstable, stale, dupes), size of the pool, number of miners in the pool, fees, payment type.... a whole lot of other factors.

Tongue
I'm back up to 1.3/day now.  cool

2 Jupiters here.  First received Oct. 14th, 2nd on 17th.  Both in afternoon.  Mined 24BTC so far.

Nice, how much did you pay both for?
Total paid, $14,597.80.  Plus 2 PSU's, 1 surge protector, new router, 50 ft ethernet cord.  I guess ~$15,130 total.  So I have a ways to go for ROI.  About 1/3 way there.  I'm hoarding btw.  US dollar gonna crash ya know.

What kind of 24 Hour Earnings are you guys getting on BTCGuild?  Mining calculators say I should be getting ~1.3 btc/day with my 2 Jupiters, ~1Th.  BTCGuild is posting around 1.18.  What's the deal with that?  Using PPLNS.
411  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: is cloudhashing.com a scam?? on: October 30, 2013, 02:54:48 AM
I have a July indefinite contract, which I bought in April, and have not seen my 25% increase in hashing power they promised.  They don't answer my emails.  The website UI stinks.  They post a video about transparency but remain clouded.

Edit:  My 25% bonus hashrate has magically been updated
412  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: [Guide] Noob guide to solo mining USB Erupters with cgminer on: October 29, 2013, 06:05:48 AM
I can only get v3.1.1 to work.  And it doesn't show any accepted shares.  The USB's blink like it's working.   It says, "No suitable long-poll found for http://127.0.0.1:8332"  Is it working without showing work?

Give the guy a break - he has shown how to set up a Jupiter in a step by step process, thus helping mining newbies like me.

I almost ordered one of these and would have been thankful for this video.

Donate only if you feel the contribution is valuable to you; it's not mandatory.

Agreed, but haters gone hate I guess. It's seems just because you can afford expensive hardware you're no longer allowed to ask for donations for taking the time to make a video for others. It ultimately helped me to at least check the insides because my fan was lose on arrival.
Thanks guys.  I think dude was making fun of my large QR code.  I found his comment rather funny posting a huge-mungus QR code.  LOL!  It's all good.  I'm on a learning curve here.  I no longer want to participate in youtube's monetization program for many reasons.  I threw that video together really fast, no rehearsal.  It's real life folks, no fluff.  I'd post more about it but I think everything's being covered in the forums.  I'm glad to help anyone out, donations or not, it doesn't matter.  With that said, if I can add any more tips here they are:

-  .95 firmware works best for my good miner, .96.1 is better for my lemon
-  my miners run better hot, other report cold is better
-  ckolivas posted a better version of cgminer, it's helped me get better hashrates.
    https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=170332.msg3424700#msg3424700
FW version .98 is supposed to mirror this as I understand it.
-  once you get your miner running at maximum hashrate, don't f* with it.
-  Get a good surge protector with ethernet/cable filters.  Don't let any connections go unfiltered.

I just tried the newer cgminer posted above on my lemon.  I'm afraid to try it on my gem, no need.  I did not stop my miner, I simply applied the steps in putty.  It says v3.6.6 no w and the numbers seem to reflect the miners true performance.  HW error % has decreased compared to before.  But other than that it hasn't improved my pool rates.  I'm using .95.  It's been less than an hour though.  Do we need to reboot or anything?  I'm confused as to what this change really does.

Edit:  Oh, it just reveals the truth.
415  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: October 27, 2013, 10:26:50 PM
nice...Id be scared to touch it too, thats great!
on the 2nd pool, I think you can just use putty to do it in cgminer, just remember to save to /config/cgminer.conf, and not the root/default directory. your default pool is pool 0, the backup is 1...

BTW... error rates, 1%, 3%, 3%. wow.

Dumb questions:

1) Did you apply all those hw tricks withe the machine switched on?
2) a part from makes VRM clicks and check the heatsink screws thre's something else to do?

Unreleated to this just wanna share that BB sys load lowered to 1.5 from 1.9 when using bfgminer instead of cgminer (bfgminer compiled fro source doeas not include  dynamic cores enable/disable mechanism committed on the 25)
I'm still confused about this process.  How do you save a file in putty?  I've seen this in other threads on knc.

Also, are we all supposed to solo mine PPC now?  Looks like PPC is slightly more profitable right now.  http://www.wheretomine.com/

And things just go from ok to worse for me, tried to go from 0.95 to 0.96, now it seems to now not want to work at all, just happily sitting at 0Gh/s, just great. It feels like as hardware goes they made a pretty good piece of kit but as the software goes it's dodgy as fuck and who ever did the work on most of this should be shot, like I don't even get why they've made it so you must clear your browser cache between firmware upgrades, it seems pretty diabolical as a starting point.
clear your browser's cache.  What does the pool say you're getting?  That's what really counts.

I'm doing most my diagnostics over SSH so it's easy to tell when it's not work CGMiner was directly doing nothing, in this case it was because there were no cores to send work to.
Oh, you already mentioned you're clearing the cache, sorry.

Yeah, they better come correct next time.  They never consulted the cgminer devs.  0.95 is pushing 560 for me showing 0.8% HW errors on the Jupiter in the video.  I got lucky there.  My 2nd Jupiter shows 530 with 12% HW errors.  I'm running it on .97.

I stacked them on top of each other just to get them out of the way for a minute and my good Jupiter actually improved.  I think they do better the hotter they get.  My temps are up on both since I did that.  The good one is on the bottom.  I'm going to switch them to see if it makes any difference.  I read somewhere some guy was blowing a hot hair dryer inside and it seemed to help.  That's a little extreme though.

I think you're right that the system requires the cores to be a bit more toastie to get the most problem is the mercury with one core doesn't make much heat it's the opposite it makes three room colder with the front fans. The front fans seems unessecary as they're constantly at 100%, same with the heatsink fan as well.
Try unplugging the fans.

Yeah I've run into a lot of problems too. You can PM me and maybe I can help you, Do you have a lot of hardware errors? If you do then there's no helping. Hardware errors mean hardware errors.  You sort of have to play with the firmwares to figure out which one's best for you. I like the .95 on my 1st Jupiter and I use .97 on my 2nd.  My 1st, in the vid, is golden.  2nd has 12 HW errors.  I've read almost every thread in the knc forum for help.  Seems like if you have a bad board, you gotta send it back.  F'ing sucks!  I'd call them if I were you.  My 1st jup gets ~540 on pool, 2nd jup, gets ~440.  Yeah, it sucks, but it's not bad enough to lose hafibg time to send it back.
