402  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: When I add 2nd PSU it smeels like its catching on fire WTF!? BTC Tip for help! on: May 07, 2013, 02:09:50 PM
Watch out for better quality riser cards. A high power draw can AND WILL overheat low quality circuits. Also clean the PCIe slots and make sure that the connections between the card and the slot offers a good contact area! Small contact areas with high load will also overheat. Lastly, beware of dust-balls. Specially dust + a humid enviroment: it makes mud! Literally. Dust is a good conductor, so get a good brush and clean the slots and the mobo for dust.

That's all i can say for now. Your PSU and/or riser is getting overloaded, not short-circuited. A short triggers the protection instantly, no matter how small. An overload kills the psu slowly and painfully (killing stabilization components first, then shorting out, then blowing the fuze, etc).

Regards and good luck!
403  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Group-Buy 2nd batch Avalon - Anyone interested? on: May 07, 2013, 11:09:28 AM
Hello to all,

Some news and updates: I've decided not to buy anything from e-bay. Why? Because of the simple fact that i can't afford, nor do i want to pay $15000 for an Avalon miner. Call me crazy, but i'd rather build my own.
So, that said, i'd like to announce the opening of a large Group-Buy through escrow, of course, of 10000 Avalon chips. My goal here is to finalize the order and have the chips delivered to eighter: a. You, if you know what to do with it (Check out the DIY threads) or b. a trusted developer, who can assemble a device using those chips and have a fully functional mining device delivered to You.

Some pros for this thread (Question: Why would i order from you? )
- 5% fee for the handling and effort, instead of 9.9% like others have (i do not intend to make competition, my goal is simply to order my chips as well and give time for people to order. I consider 5% for me is enough for me. Period.)
- I will do my best to have a PCB assembled and tested in Romania, for romanian costs. This would ensure a cheaper device overall
- My ordering window is by the end of May, but i will try to complete at least one batch by the 15th of May, so our order gets delivered sooner
- I have used the escrow service from John K., so you can rest assured you get what you pay for

If you're interested, please express your demand on this thread --> [Group Buy] Avalon ASIC Chips - Escrow by John K. (Eastern Europe / Romania)

Thank you,
Steve

I do not know who the user is, but creating your own product is a huge undertaking, this is why people go to people like Avalon and Butterfly Labs to get miners.

Who is going to write the software drivers, firmware on the device etc?

K

I'm thinking of taking the Avalon [to be] open source project and use that. I have contacts who can create the pcb from schematics. The software drivers would be the generic Avalon drivers and the updated Avalon firmware. Waiting for the project to be open.

I'm pretty sure the chips are now sold out.

The chips are fine. They will be available during the whole year 2013. Of course, the minimum order quantity is 10000 chips.

- livrare gratuita

Sarbatori fericite!

Hello,

I would like to make investment, please be kind to answer few questions:

1.) price per chip
2.) price per PCB without asic but with rest of needed components
3.) Can I come to Romania for them, I am near country?
4.) How fast you expect then to arrive?

Milan

Hi Milan
As per our discussion on the phone, i've noted for the chips. You can confirm the order as your earliest convenience.

Thank you!

[Edit]
To answer everybody else:
- The chip costs 0.083 btc each
- The price for the pcb is not final yet (around 100 eur for a 20 chip pcb)
- Yes, anybody can come to Romania to pick up the chips / pcb
- The chips should arrive on late July / beginning of August. The devices will be done in about 2 weeks after the chips arrive

Regards to all

Hi all, some news:
- A friend of mine is also discussing the possibilities to have devices created for the chips. This raises the probability of having our own devices made in Romania. Of course, i will personally focus on the quality and pricing of these devices. I want them worldwide competitive. More info will come as i have some.

Yesterday i've had a small chat with company about the devices for these chips. Practically we can throw almost any amount of devices at them and they can execute in a few weeks (2-3) tops, which brings me to a conclusion that they have a big capacity, specially for low or medium complexity boards. The greater news about this is that they can build custom devices housing 20, 60, 180, even 640 or 1280 chips. More info to come in a few days, keep your eyes on the thread!

Steve,

I am interested.  Is there enough interest to execute the order?

If we proceed I would be buying 200 chips.

I can commit to the European group buy with the most momentum over the next two weeks. If this is you, you have an order of at least 200 chips from me. Obviously I would need you to send them to burnin or another equally reputable assembler by then.

About the customs fee, what is the rate in Romania? My research show it as 19% on total including s&h. I assume once you have the chips with the customs paid in Romania, the chips can travel, customs fee free, anywhere in the EU. Avalon -> Romania (pay customs fee) -> eu assembler (no customs fee) -> eu customer (no customs fee).

Indeed, the goods can travel freely in the EU after you have paid the customs tax. I'm not sure about the import tax, though. Every single item type has a different import tax. A hazardous material costs much more than electronics, for example. I also do really hope that the documents will not show the value of the goods, however, i doubt it. In that case, the tax will be calculated based on value. I'll make some calls to a few co-workers and i'll get back to you today in the evening, GMT+2 time.

Edit: Order status to "Waiting" (for more interest). After we have an escrow address, i'll change back to "Open"
420  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Inaba (Josh BFL ) Please pay your debt - Moderators, please take action! on: April 30, 2013, 02:09:22 PM
That might be, but it is still a pointless topic along with the 500 other "we hate BFL" topics.

The only thing you get out of it is ppl leaving the forums and ignoring everything posted.

True.
