401  Local / Presse / Re: Krypto-Scammer bringen 74-Jährigen um sein gesamtes Vermögen on: July 06, 2023, 08:40:17 PM
Wer sendet denn bitte sein gesamtes Vermögen zu so was?

https://t3n.de/news/krypto-scam-vermoegen-verloren-1561259/

404  Local / Presse / Re: Buch: Ijoma Mangold - Die Orange Pille on: July 06, 2023, 12:31:17 PM
So, mal ein Update zum Buch von meiner Seite.

Hab mir die Audible Ausgabe geholt.
Bin jetzt gut 2 Stunden drin.

Hi everyone,

there's rather serious issue with provided CryptoID links.

I browse this site mostly on the phone (Safari on iPhone) and when I first checked them, links above said the loading values are 0.001 btc for each chip and 0.003 btc for each ingot.
3 chips loaded with 0.003 just for 0.0033 seemed like an awesome bargain so I bid accordingly.

To my great surprise, when I checked the auction on my computer today, the CryptoID links now said 0.0005 for each chip and 0.0025 for each ingot.
I though maybe I remember it wrong, but it turns out the CryptoID site shows different values on the phone explorer and different on the desktop!!!
(I suppose it might be some poor attempt of unfortunate and totally unnecessary rounding)

See for yourself:

https://ibb.co/cXcmSDP
https://ibb.co/Ws0ycPk
https://ibb.co/Ltn5sxd
https://ibb.co/pLrDMP2

I apologize to everyone involved and with MJ approval I hereby withdraw my bids for lots #2 and 3 since their total loading value is actually half of what I saw on my phone (0.006 vs 0.003)...
Yes, after all this I finally noticed there is visible "500 bits" on the photos, but I honestly haven't noticed it before, that's a mistake on my part.
Just wanna jump in real quick, this is an issue I (and a few others) noticed a while ago when checking certain balances (maybe it was during the Yogg-thing). This rounding error can be quite confusing.
There is a way to verify via cryptoid on mobile, though. Just scroll down to the Hash of the transaction. Here the actual amount including all decimals will be displayed correctly.

413  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Interesting privnote issue on: June 29, 2023, 11:36:44 PM
Holy chickens.
I remember something like this happened before and it was related to a scam site with a similar name.
If this is the real privnote.com it's either an inside job and the whole thing is compromised or a hack.
Thanks for the info, I'll try it out right now.

Sure you’re not using the scam site privnotes ?
Edit: Yes exactly that's was the name of the scam site that does this to BTC addresses.

Damn cool coin. Horrible day and also missed this one.
Nice to see a Hal Finney tribute coin, it's the first of its kind I belive?

If anyone wants to trade his Finney coin, I'd be happy, for example I got a 60mm Happy 2022 coin. Just send me a dm please.
416  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [WTS] 1 BTC Brass Casascius Coin 2011 (active) on: June 27, 2023, 11:53:38 PM
Looks like mj is winning the public auction at 1 BTC so far, when does this end? I'm more of a lurking sniper lol

MJ also made a private offer of 1.05 BTC  Wink
I'll wait for few more days with the offers.

I did?

Someone with your name contacted me in Telegram.

https://t.me/MlNERJONES:
"
Hello , i am just updating you about your WTS/Auction thread at forum.
My offer stands at 1.05BTC ,if you dont get any other bids.
Also if you do ,i am glad to escrow it for you
Sincerely,MJ
"

So, that wasn't you?

It clearly wasn't him because if you click on that link now it says the username doesn't exist. Never and I repeat never accept any messages outside this forum for anything you are auctioning here. I've always been the same way even though I've never been a Target of scam attacks like MJ has.

I want to second what owl said.

Just use bitcointalk messages and make sure it is the real minerjones/or whoever you expect a message from. There is a possiblility someone creates an account with similar looking name (using some ascii symbols that mimic normal letter but are actually different). So it always makes sense to check the post history and their TRUST before interacting with anyone on the forum. Only if the real minerjones on Bitcointalk gives you a telegram link, you can (probably) trust it.
For example you can check his user id here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=346731

Lot 2: 0.0025 doblezero

Note: Lot 1 (the Moonbits chip) comes with its original flyer, not too many left here.
418  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2023-06-20] Barron's: Bitcoin Rises as Its Dominance Across Cryptos Grows ... on: June 27, 2023, 11:45:58 PM
Fresh press hit from only 3h ago. You would think that Bitcoin's growing dominance is a good thing, but author disagrees (spoiler: growing BTC dominance is a sign of lower trust in the crypto market):

Bitcoin Rises as Its Dominance Across Cryptos Grows. Why It’s a Bad Sign.

https://www.barrons.com/articles/bitcoin-ethereum-price-crypto-markets-today-a65ce26

Quote
Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies were rising Tuesday with the dominance of the largest digital asset at historically high levels—something that may not bode well for sentiment across the crypto landscape.

The price of Bitcoin has risen more than 1% over the past 24 hours to $26,750, at the upper end of a trading range between $26,000 and $27,000 that has held since a 10-month high above $30,000 was reached in April—a level that has proved difficult to reclaim. Cryptos have continued to stagnate in range-bound trading despite key catalysts on both the regulatory and economic front.

“Short-term indicators point higher, although intermediate-term indicators point lower, so we stay short-term neutral for now,” said Katie Stockton, managing partner at technical research firm Fairlead Strategies. “A breakout, while unlikely near-term, would target second resistance … near $32,000.
(...)”

It is interesting to note, though, most altcoins are still WAAAY down compared to their ATHs, like 50 - 90% down. Bitcoin is doing great in comparison to its ATH.
What some short-sighted short-term traders think of it doesn't matter much.

Another thing to remember, Bitcoin's price does NOT always reflect the current state of adoption or regulation. So his conclusion is kind of wrong. There are just too many factors playing into Bitcoins short-term price-range.
419  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who Buys Bitcoin When The Price is 100k$? on: June 27, 2023, 11:41:10 PM
Who Buys Bitcoin When The Price is 100k$?

He who believes that bitcoin will hit $1m will by @$100k.
Ironically, El Salvador did...
Well, not really at $100k, though. But yeah they bought very high, riding on one of the top-waves of that cycle's hype-train.
In a decade these prices will seem very cheap.

As long as Bitcoin offers what it offers now, which is no-where else to be found, there will be demand for Bitcoin. As economies and goverments fail, demand will rise.
But there are also less dramatic reason for Bitcoin to flourish, almost idependently of its market price. One of the latest may be the ARK-protocol. A lightning-network related idea, that yet needs to be fully implemented but will avoid some of the difficulties of Lightning and adding some amazing upside at the same time.
And quite possibly there will be other technical advances, keeping Bitcoin by far in the spot for world-leading-cryptocurrency.
420  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Would you dare to pawn your bitcoin? on: June 27, 2023, 11:34:14 PM
In Russia, there is a demand for digital deposites in pawnshops. According to information from forbes.ru, up to 100 requests for money secured by cryptocurrencies are received monthly. In this regard, the pawnshops asked the Central Bank of Russia to clarify the possibility of accepting cryptocurrencies as collateral on a par with gold. To which, the regulator didn't find grounds for banning such activities. For now.

I remind that in Russia the legal status of cryptocurrencies has not yet been clearly defined. Most likely, the legislative framework will be finalized and transactions with digital assets will be regulated so that they receive the status of a full-fledged liquid collateral. And now, it turns out that pawnshops in Russia can accept currencies as collateral, and there are no laws prohibiting this.

Currently, digital currencies are recognized as property only for the purposes of the laws "On Combating Money Laundering", "On Insolvency" and "On Combating Corruption", in other cases, "legislation doesn't establish the legal basis for the circulation of digital currency", says Central Bank of Russia.

Also, in that article (I warn you, the text is not in English), a probable problem is voiced when it is physically impossible to transfer cryptocurrencies to a pawnshop for storage. It seems to me that this is solvable. It is enough for a pawnshop to create its own crypto wallet, to which the client's cryptocurrencies will be sent for temporary storage (until the borrower's debt is repaid).

P.S. This is a slightly loose interpretation of information.

Now let's move on to the question posed in the topic title.
- Would you approve of the possibility of leaving crypto as a deposit in a pawnshop?
- Has such a service not yet appeared in your country of residence?
- How do you feel about the emergence of such new trends in the service sector?

I think that this service in a pawnshop will not be possible without the KYC procedure, which few will like.

Ready to discuss this topic?

Some very interesting insights on the Russian pawnshop situation regarding crypto. I know a lot of EU countries where this would most likely (I am no lawyer, but as far as I understand the law) be illegal for pawnshops without the correct (and very expensive) exchange-license to accept crypto and give out mones instead.

I think the main reason I wouldn't ever want to go near a pawnshop, is the fact they terms are usually way in favour of them. Meaning it is most likely a -EV (expected value) game for the person lending their money.
Unless you are desperate I wouldn't ever bother with this, even it were a possibility in my country.
