4001  Other / Meta / Re: Disable Ads Option on: April 12, 2022, 07:11:12 AM
Just saw this option for the very first time in my settings.
Is it only available for selected roles or for everyone?

From what I know it's for everybody, although I've found in a post from 2013 that back then it was only available to Hero members, Donators, VIPs, and moderators.
Somewhere in my head I think that it's related to ads sometimes oddly breaking the view/browser, but I may also be very wrong in this. Still, this can be clue: somebody has been complaining, but not about the ads, instead, the ad blocker...
4002  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Features - Less is More on: April 12, 2022, 06:57:55 AM
I somehow agree with OP. Important: somehow.
Electrum is the swiss knife of Bitcoin light wallets. It is recommended by basically everybody. But it can be a pain for the newbies; I remember it was confusing even for some older users with the changes introduced in 4.0.

Electrum could use some predefined modes. No changes in functionality at all, just (UI/visibility) settings. (I'd go for at least 3 levels though).
A newbie mode should have only the super basic tabs and buttons, a medium one would have more.. and the advanced users... can enable all they want in the (advanced) settings.
It could be a bit of work in the UI and finetuning the modes. And it clearly means a lot more settings to be made up, but the result may worth it.
4003  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC Sentiment Poll for April on: April 12, 2022, 06:32:50 AM
I answered "No" because it entered a bear market a long time ago and will never exit.

Since we came into some sort of fear zone, I see you are pretty much back to life.
And your answer... made me smile again. At least it's a bit different than the old "science out of the belly" thing.

Even though it is still considered to have not come out of the bear market, there are already good signs of bitcoin price developments.
Even though the current bitcoin price is still below $45k, however, market sentiment is still happening.

You really should not take serious the oldest price troll we have on the forum...
4004  Economy / Economics / Re: How to end dependence on russian gas? Heat pumps, electric heaters, alt fuels? on: April 12, 2022, 06:27:30 AM
They're also encouraging europeans to turn their thermostats lower.

When I see this kind of ideas, I simply cannot take them serious. One will keep the termostat in the range of his comfort; if the weather is cold, it will mean more consumption, but now winter is basically over.
Do you really expect the malls go one degree lower? I'm not. Do you expect the mansions go one degree lower? Again, I'm not.
Even more: summer is coming, everybody will turn on the air conditioning, the electricity (in many cases produced by burning gas) consumption will go over the roof... and some not-too-strong-at-math may go one degree lower (!), since it's advised.
4005  Other / New forum software / Re: 2FA - authentication on: April 12, 2022, 06:06:37 AM
It may worth mentioning that although many see 2FA as ultimate safety, most keep the 2FA app on the same phone they need the 2FA codes - usually for crypto platforms/exchanges, but the new forum, if ever, will be another such case.

Known Bitcoin address is imho the best and most appropriate safety net.
4006  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC Sentiment Poll for April on: April 11, 2022, 07:22:50 PM
Just curious what you guys think.

While half of my brain is screaming "OMG it's starting, not agaaiiinnn...", the other half is "calm down, you know that most of those $10bn for buying bitcoin are still unspent, you know that when the price will go down some institutional buyers will probably jump in to buy moar". So I don't know... is it indeed bearish? I can understand that fear is gaining. But 2 weeks ago some were preaching that we are bullish... we are switching too often, too fast between greed and fear. I'd still consider it undecided for now.
4007  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: Require a $10,000 Loan on: April 11, 2022, 07:11:37 PM
Looking forward

Since nothing you've offered doesn't look like a valid collateral - see: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=577765.msg6311902#msg6311902
..I'd expect that you have better chance to get negative trust than an actual loan...
4008  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can anyone recommend me a safe place to store my bitcoins? on: April 11, 2022, 07:08:19 PM
Can anyone recommend me a safe place to store my bitcoins?

You may need to start with understanding that any wallet you get, it will not hold your coins; the coins will never leave the network/blockchain.
A wallet's main job is to help you sign transactions, the only way to spend coins.
So what you have to safely hold is the keys or wallet seed. Not bitcoins.

This is important because it doesn't matter you lose your wallet, as long as you kept the seed safely.
And this is important because no matter how safe your wallet is; if somebody else got the seed (if you didn't store it right) he will steal your coins without touching your wallet.

Now, to the question: since you lack the knowledge, I also recommend you spend some money and get a hardware wallet. I also recommend you take extra care and:
* generate a new seed after you receive the hardware wallet
* verify the seed (reset the hardware wallet and check if you get the same addresses)
* make offline backups of the seed and keep them safely in different locations, far from each other.
4009  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Is Using a Stop loss "Good" or "Bad" on: April 11, 2022, 07:00:14 PM
So is using a stop loss good or bad?

Knife: you can cut the meat with it, but you can cut your fingers too. I using a knife good or bad?

So if you have this kind of question, you may be too early in trading, you may have to keep playing for longer with small amounts until you ace it.

You have to learn to use stop loss in your favor. If not, instead of being a safety net, it will be the thing that constantly loses you money.
But what if, one day, the price drops a lot and .. doesn't recover? What if that day you didn't have stop loss?
You have to learn to feel the market. You have to learn to see where to set stop loss. You have to keep an eye on what happens.
4010  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do not trust this devil woman, she wants Bitcoin dead on: April 11, 2022, 06:52:30 PM
Devil woman

You over-inflate horror stories behind whatever she said. She's the secretary of the treasury. Of course that her aim is to protect US Dollar. Of course that her rhetoric will be more against Bitcoin than pro Bitcoin. What you'd expect?! Somehow I don't understand why in 16 posts nobody said it already: her statements and views are almost certainly biased.

All this being said, I too find this statement of her, strangely, more balanced and objective than many others'...

However, I see no reason for freaking out. It doesn't mean that her perception/vision would have changed... Like the saying: just one flower doesn't make it spring.
4011  Local / Romānă (Romanian) / Re: Concursuri/tombole pe bitcointalk (sau pe aprope) on: April 11, 2022, 06:34:19 PM
In afara de asta, observ (cu ciuda si) cu stupoare ca am ratat o tombola la care... nici nu s-au acoperit sloturile  Shocked Da, e vorba de concursul cu brişca (sper ca te-a facut sa razi termenul folosit de mine;

4012  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2022-03-08] Number of Cryptocurrency Lobbyists Nearly Tripled Since 2018 and... on: April 11, 2022, 03:31:21 PM
Just imagine if 5 companies bought 5 banks. Wow.

It would indeed be wow, but I don't expect crypto businesses have that much money.
Striking a deal with the more open minded banks would be a more realistic approach I've seen discussed; it would also open the door for one buying the other at some point.

As for the 'skeptical experts' mentioned in the article, they're experts probably in something but for sure not about Bitcoin.

Most probably "financial experts". And the last 5-10 years have shown that they - by far - cannot comprehend Bitcoin. It was not in the books they've learned from at school and they lack the deep knowledge together with the imagination to go one step forward. And you know the mindset: if one is not with them, it must be against them.

I was too late.
Wonderful knives, wonderful raffle!
Congrats to winners!
4014  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Short term investment suggestion on: April 11, 2022, 03:17:23 PM
Guys, any suggestions for short-term investment?

Short term is lottery. We don't own a crystal ball.
Also if you're interested only on short term, you're not serious about crypto, you only care to grow your fiat so you don't deserve serious answers either.
With this kind of mindset I would not be surprised if you end up in a hyip scam and lose all the money you planned to invest.

So the best answer you can get is: you better stay away for now.
4015  Other / Archival / Re: Request for Ukraine local board on: April 11, 2022, 10:19:57 AM
Since this is a forum of free speech
Even in free speech, there's censorship 🙊

If there's an imposed censorship, then it's not 100% free speech.
But I understand your point; even here, where we boast the freedom of speech, although the rules are basically common sense,  spam, plagiarism, body harm and so on get excluded/removed/banned.
Still, the more "exceptions" we add, the more harm we do on long term.

On the other hand, certain lying trolls can be easily ignored by those who no longer want to see its posts. (On the other hand, reporting for trolling can do longer term effects.)
4016  Other / Meta / Re: Save your nice merit records here - LAST UPDATE: 24/03/2022 on: April 11, 2022, 07:58:13 AM
Made it 4100 now, was 4099. Save this too.

Heh, thanks Smiley

I save a record of 4100 for @NeuroticFish I think it's very fast from the 4050 recorded by aysg76 last night, it has reached today and I recorded it for @NeuroticFish to see. Grin

Actually the 4050 is a bit older, in the last 24h I've received only 2 merit.

4017  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: F1 Formula Sports Racing - Sportsbet.io promotions & discussion thread on: April 11, 2022, 07:53:50 AM
Happy to see RedBull DNF again but not happy for Max ...but I guess karma is karma no matter what.

I'm no longer sure it's accident/bad karma or is it just plain stupid i.e. pushing the car more than he should (Charles was smart and asked the engineers if the car can handle a push for a new best time of the track).
With this kind of behavior RedBull is getting farther and farther from a pretty easy place 2 and chances for place 1, leaving Ferrari get away easy on 1st and allowing Mercedes (and possibly McLaren and Alpine too!) fight for place #2.

I was happy for Checo, I was happy to see McLaren getting closer to where they should be, I was happy for Alex Albon's point.
Of course, Sainz and Alonso were unlucky - I was expecting to see both in top5.
And Mr Stroll should start opening his eyes: imho something goes really wrong at Aston Martin.

And I will also end with Max. One good thing I've noticed that at least the fight with Charles is nice and clean, not the ugly crap we've seen last year.
So although I no longer care whether Max wins or not, or even ends the race or not, he still seems to be the only one with chances to challenge Ferrari. And I want to see that, I want it for the show.
4018  Economy / Speculation / Re: Galaxy CEO analyzes possible behavior of Bitcoin on: April 11, 2022, 07:39:46 AM
Finally, I saw a realistic prediction from a businessman/investor perspective unlike to other people who are just telling random numbers without any basis or explanation which is clearly only telling those numbers just to pump their bags.

Usually those personalities say overly big numbers for 2 clear reasons:
* shocking numbers get attention/press, normal numbers not really
* they want to show that they do believe in the rise of this market

On the other hand Novogratz is already such a name, whatever he will say, it will most probably end up in the news. And then why don't just be real/thoughtful?

I also somehow agree with Mike Novogratz, that we can experience crypto winter during this month, which for me is also good, natural, and could help the market become healthy.

On one hand many tell that this cycle will be different than the rest. I don't know if this means smaller crash or no crash at all, some even hope for no crypto winter.
Some do say that the current value, compared to 69k ATH is a crash and we're already in sort of crypto winter.
Some were already cheering 2 weeks ago that we're heading to next ATH Grin

Imho the fact that we are just experiencing some sort of altcoin season, may mean that the actual crash and crypto winter may be the next step - if there will be such a step in this cycle.
But with those huge amounts of money pouring in, expecting crypto winter is not a safe bet. And institutional investors may not be happy to see a real crash (they may not see it as a healthy move).

All in all, the overall view is unclear and imho all the options/direction are on the table.

* Doge4Water: https://www.coindesk.com/markets/2014/03/11/dogecoin-foundation-to-raise-50k-for-kenyas-water-crisis/

* Dogesled: sponsorizarea echipei de bob a Jamaicai la olimipaida de iarna https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2014/jan/20/jamaican-bobsled-team-raises-dogecoin-winter-olympics

* Si, bineinteles, Dogecar: https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2014/mar/27/nascar-dogecoin-sponsor-josh-wise-talladega-superspeedway

Chiar m-am distrat super fain cu comunitatea aia...
...pana cand nasolia cu Mintpal si nesimtitul de Moolah mi-a lasat gust amar si m-a facut sa ma reorientez.

Capitol Coin: Number of Cryptocurrency Lobbyists Nearly Tripled Since 2018 and Spending Quadrupled, With Help from Revolving Door Lobbyists and Corporate Allies
https://www.citizen.org/article/capitol-coin-cryptocurrency-lobbying-revolving-door-report/

It's a bit old news/report, I've noticed it now since CZ tweeted it.

It's quite long for my liking and I don't understand 100% what all those associations are, but the charts show it clearly: numbers are steadily increasing. Crypto lobbying is a fact and the money (and people) involved is on the rise.
Again, nothing really new nor unexpected, though I find the numbers impressive.

...Yes, I've seen that some (cough Ripple cough) are also lobbying shitcoins, we just can't have all nice and clean. Still...

The news item also shows big names giving up government job and turning to crypto and using their know-how for lobbying crypto.
The article tries to bring some weak (?) criticism, but I gracefully ignored that part (I don't care that much of the fears expressed by people still afraid of thunder)

Like the megabanks, tech companies, fossil fuel corporations, and other industries, the crypto sector is putting millions and millions of dollars into pushing lawmakers to put their private business interests before the public interest. In Washington, D.C., where money speaks loudly, the digital currency lobby is determined to have a say. In the face of this lobbying spree, even the most crypto-friendly lawmakers should pause to ask whether what is good for this volatile sector is what’s best for their constituents.
