4001  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Hypothetical layer 2 solutions for DEX's and phone nodes on: July 08, 2019, 09:50:41 PM
I don't think you should be concerened about DEXes because they will not be relevant in a few year's time. However, I have been wrong before and I would love to see a forex market or stocks market implement a DEX approach. Until something like that happens, with each regulatory approval for mainstream crypto products like ETFs, futures and derivatives, DEX is going to be more and more irrelevant.

I don't get why do you think DEXs will become irrelevant. I would say the opposite instead, and perhaps for the same reasons you used. Products like ETF, futures aren't going to change anything and are almost unknown for the average Joe. Can you trade your Bitcoin ETF with Dogecoin? Alright. You see, not the same audience to do not the same things.
4002  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-07-08] ShapeShift’s New Platform Aims to Rival Coinbase on: July 08, 2019, 09:21:42 PM
The article says the following (emphasis mine):
Quote
Notably, a know-your-customer (KYC) check is only required for trading.

Anyone have any clarification on what exactly this means? What functions are available if you don't undergo KYC? If I can't trade (or therefore buy or sell) without KYC, then surely there's nothing left I can do?

Non custodial is great, but why would I choose this exchange when there are already non custodial decentralized exchanges which don't require KYC at all out there.

To me, it means you will be able to use it without KYC if you don't do anything else than storing your coins, just as a simple wallet.
I don't see anything spectacular since as soon you want to trade...=>KYC, only the fact users control their keys. This, with a nice UI can do the job but the UI really needs to be VERY GOOD, because it will be one of their main selling point.
4003  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why Bitcoin can't be banned on: July 08, 2019, 08:12:06 PM
Bitcoin was illegal.

You're illegal
4004  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Stop glorifying centralized exchanges. on: July 07, 2019, 09:17:30 PM
Once I watched a documentary and the journalist said "Follow the money. It's amazing how many things it can explain". People only understand when you hit their money anyway so when they will realize that the things aren't different with CEXs they will start to look at the DEXs.
Wait for 10 years you will the same people telling how they regret to have used CEXs all these years.
4005  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: icoinpro scam or a MLM to avoid? on: July 07, 2019, 08:31:19 PM
This is an old MLM scam (I didn't know it's still alive) the CEO had or still have another shady business like this one.
They say you have to pay $$, the product is described as content for bitcoin education... Content you get for free on Youtube. So you build up your matrix promoting a product that is free. Search for "behind the MLM + Icoinpro" the blog is very good to cover MLM scams

4007  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin with real gold on: July 07, 2019, 05:01:44 PM
Bitcoin and gold are different but have high value, especially bitcoin which has more value than gold, we know bitcoin is very valuable and has its own advantages. So we can save bitcoin for the long term and are very confident that it will have many benefits in the future.
Bitcoin have a high value if we compare to gold, and the value of bitcoin is fast to high if that it just only a short term, and fast to earn profit. Not like in gold that we wait for a longer time and its not so safe to keep it. Therefore btc is better than gold because it has more profitable and it can be use for all kinds of transaction on online and many uses.

It's a stupid comparison. How can you say it's not safe to keep gold? It's surely safer than storing your coins in an exchange (which you don't have any control on the top of that). BTC  more profitable than gold? Ok go to tell that to someone who bought when the price was $20,000.
Yes Bitcoin can be used online but it can't off line,

4011  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A Woman Travels to 7 Different Countries in 12-Week.Challenge using only Crypto on: July 07, 2019, 12:21:01 PM
How it is a risk to use Bitcoin. Is it safer to hold? Isn't Bitcoin supposed to be currency and payment mean? Not everyone is holding their bitcoins. Many use it a lot to buy kinds of stuff, pay bills, whatever,

This lady is just trying to get the fame lol. And she googled before? not once she's in the country? Cheesy What a challenge
4012  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-07-06]Iranian Official Says US Congress is Working to Block Iran’s Crypto on: July 07, 2019, 12:04:56 PM
Indirectly that's good news. When you see the geopolitical problems between both and the tension that keeps increasing, Iran will not let itself be fooled, it is not a bluff, unlike Trump.
It's Bitcoin that's going to be happy, we just have to see how the markets (and BTC) reacted the past weeks.
4013  Other / Meta / Re: Plagiarism - No ban? on: July 07, 2019, 11:42:12 AM
but I don't think forgetting to add the link in the Press section once is enough for a perma ban for plagiarism.

Not the first time in his case
4014  Economy / Economics / Re: How can I start a business that offers crypto services? on: July 06, 2019, 11:27:54 PM
So all you want to do is to create a 'business investment', where you collect money from people(?) and make a profit from it(?) ok so how do you plan to generate revenue to provide payment interests to the client? Especially if you only hold the bitcoins. Because the money doesn't grow on tree but Bitcoin too
And all this starting with a loan you took to start? Good luck to find a "Giant loan" to buy bitcoins but better you do nothing honestly
4015  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Which Mixer is getting axed next? on: July 06, 2019, 11:06:33 PM

Unfortunately, police tend to shoot first and ask questions later. That's why Europol is only now "attempt[ing] to determine the extent to which criminal money laundering was used on the site."

They did it already. This article isn't giving much information, just the minimal to say the site is seized, but there is. They were after Bestmixer since last year and they have been able to estimate its volume transactions, etc.
So for months, maybe the beginning, people were using a broken mixer

4017  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-07-03]French Regulators Notice Uptick In Crypto-Related Complaints on: July 06, 2019, 04:14:20 PM
In other words, French regulators are continuing to find ways to justify their existence.

Full report in French is here if anyone's interested (PDF file):

https://www.amf-france.org/technique/multimedia?docId=workspace://SpacesStore/cf78ce8a-05bd-4e02-b185-146c7c71ea1b_fr_1.0_rendition

Heh, precisely. They are surprisingly even more backward than Italy's and Spain's (regionally, usually it's a battle between the three, IMO) when it comes to this. Last year, they'd put out more of the same types of Press Releases, telling people they get hundreds of phone calls a month about people asking if Bitcoin's legit (so you know, you need lots of people to man those hotlines).

The funniest is their crypto scam blacklists, though (https://www.amf-france.org/en_US/Epargne-Info-Service/Mise-en-garde/Par-date). I imagine there are a few people who surf the net for HYIPs, probably from faucet site ads, and then when they detect fake info, they report it to a superior and the boss says, mmm good job, add it to our blacklist. And they feel happy.

Nah not really. The last time I visited the AMF's list all the sites/services listed where BTC scams. Most of the time, websites selling Bitcoin.
They don't blaclist HYIPs, all are scams so the average Joe doesn't need to ask if it's legit or scam
I remember, regarding ICOs, they wanted (or already have) to create like a badge, and every ICO with it could be considered as safe.
4018  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Which Mixer is getting axed next? on: July 06, 2019, 12:48:58 PM
@TryNinja is right. I don't even know what is an illegal or legal mixer. And the funny thing is: which laws do they break? Money laundering? But the government don't want to consider Bitcoin as a legal currency!

Are there any illegal banks? Because I know for fact they participate in money laundering massively, it's well documented and can't be denied (some even accepted publicly) but what happened to them? A small fine at best and they're still here.

4020  Economy / Economics / Re: Gold exist 1000+ years. while bitcoins exist 10 years. on: July 05, 2019, 09:32:02 PM
...

Yeah, I saw that this week. Now think about this:
Several countries have been buying gold massively the past years/months, (Russia, China, or Germany requesting to get back its gold stocked in France, or Italy trying too) even the IFM. Right?
https://sputniknews.com/business/201903301073683758-russia-gold-buy-up-continues/
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-06-10/china-snaps-up-more-gold-in-six-month-spree-as-tensions-escalate

Now read this quote from Mark Mobius

Quote
"Interest rates are falling, especially in Europe," he said, quoted by the news agency. "What is the meaning of maintaining the euro when you get a negative rate? You might as well put it in gold, because gold is a much better currency.
(Source, not in EN, sorry)

This is so true, and that's why gold will probably continue to increase shortly Tongue
