How did XRP end up being considered as any type of investment in the first place?

Surely in a properly functioning Ripple system it's supposed to nothing more than the lubricant that allows it to run.

Just for the fun of it.
Why not make a couple of millions on the sideline?

The good thing is, you could do it over and over again, like with real money.
You issue whatever you want, you find buyers and its considered to be growth, although nothing really happened.

Oh great the illuminate are involved in Ripple.

Old money elite now endorsing crypto fashionably late ... way too late, or is it all part of their master plan.

I'm glad a couple of others have mentioned the fact that you can't pre-mine a coin which doesn't have any mining, and the fact that Ripple itself (although not the internal currency XRP) actual pre-dates Bitcoin.

But I also have to say its definitely not a strong buy at the moment because there is big selling going on from Jed McCaleb and his giant founders share, which is going to make it difficult for the price to go up a lot any time soon.

Long term I'm very bullish on Ripple, but not short term. Next year at least I'd say.

I heard that argument before and I think he dumped some already.
But Jed would be a complete idiot to dump it all now, once things really start to materialize.

And if so, I'm sure there will be enough buyers now, glad to pick up his coins for the actual rate or less.
So still - VERY STRONG BUY!
4025  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Mintpal hacked (VeriCoin) on: July 14, 2014, 12:46:47 PM
mintpal said hackers were able to "inject a withdrawal request directly into our database". I call bullshit. Only vrc were stolen.

https://twitter.com/casacup/status/488609939892740096

A mysql query injection? That's a site security hole, and could potentially affect any coin. That makes little sense. If they were able to inject a query into the database, why not steal other coins?

According to Mintpal and linked to earlier.

Quote
Why was only VRC taken?
We're not exactly sure why VRC was the only coin taken, however we can confirm that BTC and LTC were targeted, but those withdraw attempts were unsuccessful owing to far more stringent COLD storage methods on those wallets.

Which sounds strange because Mintpal admitted that the problem was they had far too many VRC in the hot wallet.

Quote
What about COLD storage?
This is perhaps the most important question we have been asked. We did have COLD storage setup for VRC, however in this instance, due to an error for which only we can be accountable, we had transferred far fewer coins than was required, resulting in a large proportion of coins being left in the HOT wallet.

An error??

If the SQL injection attack worked on Veri it would have worked on the Litecoin, bitcoin Hotwallets

Mintpal are clearly working with Veri to cover this up....its really shady...once its pinpointed - you can say goodbye to Mintpal

Not necessarily, if those databases contain another level of transaction auditing before execution.
I doubt they use MySQL. It would be interesting to know which middleware its made with.
Nobody in its right mind would use PHP for a financial transaction system anyway, but thats probably whats used for most of the exchanges.

The lack of adoption of standards for such systems is a major culprit for all of these bo-peep exchanges.
Most of it is home-knit crap, based on completely unaudited frameworks.
Thats also the reason why integration into existing financial clearing networks is almost impossible for them.

Really. No.
4027  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: RIPPLE! Strong Buy. on: July 14, 2014, 12:01:39 PM
Yeah, sadly the average ratio between loud mouthing and knowledge of facts is terrible on this forum.
The affiliation with every other shit coin is very strong on the opposite.

In fact, its what most of the loud mouths here would be praying for.
One of the "Masters of the universe" coming along and pick their little shitcoin and throw some money at it.
Now that its happening, its wrong again. You people are mental.
Do you think we're gonna have a transformation of the system Mao Tse Tung style?

And Litecoin? It had a bit of a dead cat bounce, to sucker in more bagholders.
The expectations are high, the chart looks so tempting, but I think its not gonna make it again.
4028  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: RIPPLE! Strong Buy. on: July 13, 2014, 05:11:19 PM
No, its not. This is a bad move by anyones standards. The guy was a scammer even before he got into crypto.......and he has a silly name.

He left the stage quite honorable.
He is of the powers to be, heavyweight.
Some newly rich folk would pay billions for that name...

The castle of one of his ancestors used to be on the 500 Deutsche Mark bill.
Its a quite a pretty shack, I've been there.

This is a major change of directions for anything crypto.
And the RIPPLE system has what it needs, the coin will rise with it, 100%

How fucking creepy would be living there? imagine spending a night alone there.

What are you afraid of, your face in the mirror?

The personality is perceived in a strange way here.
Maybe because its for real, and not something you have seen on your last trip to Disneyland, or in your favorite Hollywood fuckup.

Most of the commenters either don't know what they are talking about, and most probably have never bothered to understand how Ripple works, what it is, at all.

why is ripple not yet on cryptsy? its quiet long on the top there

It requires a whole new exchange to be integrated, quite different from other altcoin infrastructure.

Ripple Labs: Guttenberg makes now in Cyber Currencies

The traditional payment system is "antiquated, expensive and inefficient," says ex-minister Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg. Therefore, he now turns to the digital world of finance and begins as a consultant at the start-up Ripple Labs.

http://www.spiegel.de/netzwelt/web/karl-theodor-zu-guttenberg-arbeitet-jetzt-fuer-start-up-ripple-labs-a-980675.html

The guy is major lobbyist from very influential old German heritage. I expect great things to come to RIPPLE.

Karl-Theodor Maria Nikolaus Johann Jacob Philipp Franz Joseph Sylvester Freiherr von und zu Guttenberg[2][3] (born on 5 December 1971) is a German politician of the Christian Social Union (CSU). In 2011 Guttenberg joined the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) as a Distinguished Statesman. He also advises European Commission Vice President Neelie Kroes on the promotion of internet freedom regarding questions of foreign affairs.

A Member of Parliament from 2002 until March 2011, Guttenberg briefly held the post of Secretary General of his party before he was appointed as Federal Minister for Economics and Technology in the first Merkel cabinet on 10 February 2009. After taking office as a cabinet minister, he quickly became one of Germany's most popular politicians.[4][5] From 28 October 2009, Guttenberg served as the Minister of Defence of Germany in the second Merkel cabinet; the discovery and public criticism of plagiarism in his subsequently revoked doctoral thesis led to his resignation as Minister of Defence on 1 March 2011 and from the Bundestag on 3 March, when he was succeeded as Minister of Defence by Thomas de Maizière.[6]

He is the grandson of two well-known politicians. One is Karl Theodor Freiherr von und zu Guttenberg, a West German CSU politician. His grandfather and a great-great-uncle, Karl Ludwig Freiherr von und zu Guttenberg, took part in the resistance to the Nazi regime; the latter was executed after the 20 July plot. Another grandfather is Jakob von und zu Eltz, a Croatian politician of the 1990s. He is married to Stephanie zu Guttenberg, an activist against child abuse and a member of the Bismarck family. Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg is a descendant of Leopold II, Holy Roman Emperor and Aloys II, Prince of Liechtenstein.

Aha I see. I am only looking at it as a way of payment.

Thank you for your answer!

Yes that is the the beauty of this concept. Speculators play a very important role as well...in bringing liquidity to the market.

I'm in on this shit.
The only way they could deliver is bringing the exchange rate up close to the urea rate.
It has to happen in a very short time frame to make it real, buckle up.

Is there a maximum number of master nodes that the network will allow?

If yes, would Master Nodes become an asset class?

It is an asset NOW and will be for a very long time...the only altcoin with the future IMO.

An asset class means that you can sell some of the future revenue potential it generates as part of your current sell price.

If there is a limited number of master nodes, you can say, I will sell you my master node for 3 times the current value.  Thats how stocks and investment property work, but only if there is scarcity of supply.

number of masternodes is limited by the coin supply: 4,4 Million coins / 1000 = 4400 masternodes max

There wouldn't be any coins left then for transfers, because they all would be bound in MNs.
So max would be 4399 MNs with 1.000 DRK in circulation.

So there is a self balancing mechanism which pivots around the number of master nodes locked up which impacts the coin supply, which impacts the price based on demand. Demand is a function of anonymity derived from the strength and utility of the anonymity provided by the network.

Beautiful.

It is an asset class. There could be ETFs or short term bonds for MNs, reseller models are already popping up.

Looks like RC4 might get us back to 0.015 or 2 at the max. I don't see us ever getting above that again.

I don't see why it shouldn't. Crystalballing is totally useless right now.

I think somebody dumps DRK/BTC to dump LTC/DRK for a better rate, and/or to buy DRK/FIAT cheaper.
I suspected such game earlier, when Bitfinex opened for FIAT. Carry trade strategy going on.

Or some exchange is short selling against their customers. We'll see by the momentum once they start to cover, if so.

It looks like the price is suppressed  at this low level at purpose .
PS Evan was here , I saw him !

I think so too.
To me it looks like somebody sells DRK/BTC to dump LTC/DRK for a better rate and then slowly buys back DRK.

I really could care less about you, your self interest, or why you bought this coin.  You are just another one of the jerks in this thread that do nothing more than drive away people.  People like you are one of the reasons that people are getting sick of DRK.  The arrogance and ignorance is getting old.

The sooner someone drives you away the better.  Grin

I don't even know what you're whining about. What is it exactly that you want Huh

See that's the problem.  You fools want to drive people away.  Well you're doing a good job at it.  Why would anyone want to invest in this coin when they get attacked for asking questions or stating the obvious?  My post wasn't attacking DRK and it wasn't fud.  Yet you felt the need to attack me and call me names.

Go to hell crouton.  You're a worthless piece of shit as far as I'm concerned and I will never respond to another one of your pathetic posts.  Have a crappy life.

Its just an unbothered out of control fan club without any clues and reflection.
Like Bieber fans.

Yeah, fools and money, you know the rest of the story, don't ya?

Yeah, well it's clear who the fool is in this case. I’ll give you 2 out of 10 for verbal abuse and zero for anything that matters, so I think you’d better p*ss off back where you came from cos you're out of your depth and are starting to make an a*ss of yourself.

I wasn't out here for some time.
You were. Trying to sell camel shit on a camel market all day long.
Whats your point? You lost quite some dough if you were really pulling the shots you called.
You are the fool already, Mr. super chart fucker.
