I am having that EXACT issue with a 5850.. a tiny resistor fell off when I was cleaning it... It was having issues... Would mine for a minute.. temps would go to 127.5 and lock up... the entire rig.
Everything looks perfect on the card except this one tiny transistor.

with the 12.4 drivers 7950 required a dummy plug after upgrading to beta driver.... Dummy plug no longer required....
Giving me shit trying to run a 5800 series with a 7900 series though.....

I use the Athlon x2 250 cpu for the rigs.. They work great... @ home 1090T for now.. until I see some decent spec's on the new Bulldozer style architecture...
