4021  Other / Off-topic / Re: Is 'Merit' really important on this site??? on: March 03, 2019, 03:20:48 AM
Learned that members here in BitcoinTalk get better ranks if they get some special points called 'Merit'. Is it an important meter? Can this affect the ability to participate in or even start projects?

No it isn't. The higher ranks allow you bigger signatures and using an avatar, but that's it. It also signals how much experience you have using the forum, that's about it.
4022  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Two s9js with different noises on: March 03, 2019, 12:16:15 AM
So if I understand it correctly, best efficiency(W/TH) is mainly based on voltage, right? Therefore I should try to run them all on 7.9 and tune the frequency?

From what i understand, after you lower the voltage, you lower the speed until the asic board starts hashing properly again. This is a bit of a trial and error and needs lots of reboots, and each board (chain) seems to like different settings. Its the opposite of overclocking, where you set a high speed then increase the voltage until it hashes again, and hopefully don't get too many HW errors (or melt your chips).
4023  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: New Warehouse - How to wire it? on: March 02, 2019, 11:33:59 PM
If your phases are 120v each, you have to make your circuits using two hots from different phases, instead of the usual hot neutral, with a pair of tied breakers per circuit.

So for phases A B C, your first circuit uses A+B, second uses B+C, and third uses A+C. Then keep repeating as needed.

This method would give you 208v per circuit, but needs nothing else, and the miners would work.

Of course if your phases are already 240v each instead of 120v, you don't need to use double hots, you make your circuits normally using a single breaker with a single hot each.

In North America the NEMA 6 plug is supposed to be used for 208~240v circuits, take a quick look at your receptacles:

In an ideal world you would be getting 240v for each phase from the street, but that probably needs re-configuring the transformers which are usually in the realm of the utility providing your power service. Thing is, those wires hanging on poles outside (or underground) are actually 11k volts, so transforming that down to 120v or 240v makes little difference to them. In fact its more efficient if they deliver you the higher voltage. Depending on country/utility that might be a long process but its always good to know.

OK. i removed my SMS option from Binance.  It seems a WHOLE LOT BETTER.  thanks for assistance everyone.

Now I am staring at this API option.  What is that??? I click the link to API options and it goes into nowheres land...

You don't have to worry about the API unless you want to use a third party program with Binance. For example a trading bot.
4025  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Number of full nodes over since 2015 on: March 02, 2019, 10:15:51 PM
My thoughts
I have decided to set up a full node for my personal benefits as well as helping the total community. What's your thought? I would love to hear.

In December i also decided to make the effort and run a full (non pruned) node (over tor), i have been syncing at nights since then, painfully waiting for gigs and gigs of data download and processing. Currently i'm almost only 1 year behind, so the day is getting closer for me to be in sync. Unfortunately i don't use a core wallet, since in my country it would be impossible.

Since i'm taking all this effort to sync the blockchain, once i finish i might as well set up a wallet just in case, an Electrum server and a Lightning Node server.

Here is where i am at right now:

4026  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I Screwed Up on: March 02, 2019, 10:03:16 PM
I was trying to transfer my Bitcoin and for some reason my Bitcoin was sent to the wrong address, I just started to use bitcoin recently and now i'm suck on how to get my money back. The transaction ID is (0d2ab7e318058c36f10ad06c26b79ebde8ea532551f78d9150759e591a3a674e) and it was sent to this address (bc1qy4jleyqse9jka39296vzn6ykx7hk3mh63zpwvl) which I did not create nor facilitate which confuses me the most. Please help me if possible thanks.

Bitcoin transactions are final and irreversible, therefore always triple check before making a payment. If you are a victim of malware, you should be aware that using insecure OSes like Windows will lead you to money loss. If you were waiting for an excuse, now is the time you take Linux seriously.

Separate your tasks physically, the serious things like banking and money handling, should always be done in a safe environment, this can be achieved by booting a live Linux iso (such as Tails) or having an older dedicated computer for such tasks.

Securing windows is much harder than using Linux for mundane tasks such as web browsing banks and bitcoin handling. You could keep your windows cleaner by purchasing anti malware software which would in turn make it slower than it already is, but there is still a chance a new undiscovered malware infects you and steals your money anyway. Lower your chances of getting infected and switch to Linux today.
4027  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Couple Uses Bitcoin Wealth to Build World’s First Seastead on: March 02, 2019, 01:25:20 PM
An early Bitcoin investor and self-confessed libertarian has built the first “seastead” with his BTC profits. For those who do not know, a seastead is a floating home designed to stay in international waters, thus allowing its inhabitants to live outside of the laws of any nation.

Wouldn't a good boat be enough? like a Yacht or something with nice habitation inside? I mean what could possibly warrant a "seastead" or "floating home" when many regular ships can do the same thing and be easier to move and more reliable should weather conditions worsen? OK i guess a floating home could do in a lake or such, but i think this couple is in open sea, which in itself could spell trouble...
4028  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Two s9js with different noises on: March 02, 2019, 12:37:14 PM
There are however methods to quiet them, such as putting it inside a wooden box with ample holes on the sides covered inside with sound insulation fabric.

And with the addition of Braiins OS, you could underclock them to maximize efficiency and have then run quieter, as philipma1957 demonstrated, an S9 can work at say, 500mhz 8.0~8.1v producing 10TH/s while pulling a mere 823 watts, lowering the traditional 100w per tera down to 80 watt per tera, AND lowering the temperatures enough to have the fans work at 3k rpms or so automatically as opposed to 5k~6k rpms.
4029  Other / Off-topic / Re: Crypto and Videogames on: March 01, 2019, 11:57:10 PM
I'm actually interested in MMOs using actual crypto as ingame currency rather than some virtual money with infinite supply. I guess the game would need to be designed in a way where the rich doesn't game unbalancing advantages. Ie, the money would let you buy a house, instead of a super weapon. Which games are doing this, and which would you recommend?
4030  Other / Off-topic / Re: Why Discord became so popular? on: March 01, 2019, 11:51:18 PM
I don't know, I used Discord before but I didn't find it interesting.

I still go with Telegram though, very easy to use and it's function is pretty straight forward. So I don't know which one is popular though, but based on my experience, our family are going to Telegram for our special 'talk'.

Same here. I did made an account in Discord but can't bother to keep open "yet another messaging platform". Besides for me IRC would be good enough, but Telegram is acceptable. Discord seems to be game oriented, but i found its client heavy on resource usage. I guess with Discord you don't need a cellphone number? But at least with Telegram that is only needed the first time you make an account.

I'm not really sure why its popular, but have seen plenty of popular things come and go in my lifetime. Slack? I detest it.
4031  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin and other cryptocurencies are not necessary says Chinese people on: March 01, 2019, 11:26:00 PM
In a report earlier this week, it was gathered that a recent survey conducted in China brought a result of 66% saying there's no need for Bitcoin  and other cryptocurencies. Do you consider this a FUD or it's the actual representation of their thoughts?

Coming from the country with the largest Bitcoin usage, perhaps simply because it has the largest population, makes this comment even more nonsensical. Perhaps the communist party doesn't like it, being socialists and all it goes against their dogma to give power to the people so they can choose for themselves... But as far as the economy is concerned, China has shown more pragmatism and less socialism, at least after Mao died.

Considering the amount of wealth Bitcoin has created, it would be stupid to stay out of the pie. But you know, socialism...
4032  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Venezuela on: March 01, 2019, 11:06:14 PM
I don't see why _anyone_ 'should organize military intervention' against a country which:

 - has a leadership which was elected fair and square by the population, and

 - is not bothering their neighboring states.

The rest of the 'Latin American' countries have plenty of internal problems that they should be focusing on within their own borders.

Even countries like Saudi Arabia and China who's citizens have no say about who or what their leadership is should not be attacked unless the un-elected leadership is reaching outside of their borders to spread their own brand of anti-human taint on others.  (In both of these cases they happen to be doing so.)  If they keep their stink within their borders then their own people can deal with the problems if they take a mind to.

"Fair and square" according to whom, you? You are not even Venezuelan and have no idea what actually happened to be making that statement. They were blatantly rigged, period. You have every right to demand your politicians to not intervene (and they have every right to ignore you), but you have zero rights to defend the cause of the misery of the Venezuelan people. The moment you move a finger to defend Maduro, you are trampling over millions of lives and you have no morals to make those anti Venezuelans comments. In fact, i demand that you stay out of our matters. YOU are the one intervening. We requested the aid, not you. You don't want to give it? Fine, others will. Maduro is a criminal usurper and has no authority over any matters, he should be taken into custody and trialed for his crimes in the international court along with his close accomplices. But that is not YOUR problem, its OURS, so mind your own problems in your own country before spitting lies about a place you don't belong to.
4033  Other / Meta / Re: page number not clickable on some sub boards on: March 01, 2019, 08:30:34 PM
I noticed this problem with sub boards where words are written from right to left which are Arabic and Hebrew sub boards.
The problem appears when using Chrome both on computer and smartphone and it works fine using Firefox (I don't know about other browsers).

I also noticed that when I minimize the browser window size, the links become clickable!
I don't know if there is something to do to fix it, I just wanted to let you know about it.

I tested this with Waterfox (Firefox based) and it works fine. You have probably found a Chromium bug, which probably affects all Chromium based browsers (Ie: Opera, Brave, Edge, etc).

Perhaps the right course of action is to fill a bug report to the Chromium development team. I wouldn't be surprised if this happens in other forums, try checking elsewhere (ie. Simple Machine Forums in Arabic). There is a chance the bug isn't even Chromium but SMF related. You should also test a different forum software, such as a phpbb forum in Arabic to see if the problem repeats. Then you will know which team to send the report to.
4034  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Buy FB Cryptocurrency on Popular Exchanges on: March 01, 2019, 04:03:47 PM
It looks like that soon will be possible  to buy FB coin on popular exchanges
FB want to launch his crypto in first half of 2019

I think it  will be best way to promote crypto currencies
For many people with zero knowledge cryptocurrency is kind of fraud or even criminal
Now thanks FB coin they will  most likely to learn what crypto currencies  really is
And we will have yet another stable coin that time with use cases

And this is related to Bitcoin Discussion how again? I think your perfectly valid thread belongs in the Altcoin Discussion, you know, with the rest of the "stable" coins.

For me, Facebook releasing their own altcoin after being so hostile to Bitcoin, is meh. Even within altcoins, they'll have a hard time. But good luck to them, everyone is entitled to try, not that everyone will necessarily succeed...
4035  Other / Off-topic / Re: Three (3) useful addons for Google Chrome web browser on: March 01, 2019, 02:43:25 PM
I'm currently using (chromium is not my main browser, its my backup browser):

Authy (2fa)
Auto Refresh (kano pool needs this)
Block Image (when bandwidth goes under 1mbps)
Disable HTML5 Autoplay (must have)
HTTP/2 and SPDY indicator (this forum supports it)
I don't care about cookies (EU regulations should not be bothering the rest of the world)
Improve YouTube! (Must have youtube enhancement)
ImTranslator (Inline translation, always useful)
Keepa (Because Amazon prices are not static)
minerBlock
Nano Adblocker (leaner than the others)
Nano Defender (anti-antiadblockers)
Search by Image (faster than going to google image and pasting)
Stealthy (to circumvent censorship)
Stylus (must have, to darken the web for example)
WhatRuns (Knowledge is power)
Yet another flags (So that's why that server i so slow...)

My addons catalogue in other browsers is quite similar to this. My main browser is Waterfox because it uses less ram and the addons don't have to obey Google's policy (ie youtube downloaders banned), but chromium lets me choose a different audio device which is nice regular youtube playing, etc.
4036  Other / Politics & Society / Re: It looks as if Guaido's lot burnt the aid truck. on: March 01, 2019, 12:45:04 PM
Why didn't the US send in the aid via the normal routes instead of trying to force it in over a bridge that had never been opened to politicise the event.

Why did Richard Branson ( The British globalist traitor ) lie about his stupid pop concert to maximise the publicity?

If the US is so concerned about human aid, why isn't it doing something about the Yemen, Columbia and other countries with far worse problems than Venezuela?

Why isn't the US spending money to help reduce the poverty and destitution in the US? It is now being reported as worse than the conditions in Venezuela.

If the US really why wants to help Venezuela, why have they imposed draconian sanctions on the country?

The US is becoming a communist state run by a politbureau appointed by the Rothschild/Vatican/British Crown elite, and they are becoming so arrogant that their actions are transparent. Brexit is one example, and appointing a graduate of the George Washington school for regime change to orchestrate the annexation of Venezuela is another.

The US, the EU, and various other countries (ie. Canada) have been trying to send the aid "via normal routes", even back when they still recognized Maduro (before Jan 10 2019). He always rejected it on absurd claims. This has been going for 2 or 3 years... Now that Maduro is no longer recognized, and the new President Interim Guaidó officially requested the aid, they have been trying to deliver it. I has been piling near the borders for months.

Whatever Richard Branson does, its his private business. It doesn't change the official position of countries or the needs of the people of Venezuela. If private entities want to raise funds to donate food or medicine, Why are we going to reject it? This is the country where people are supposed to live with under 10 USD a month, somehow...

I don't know about Yemen, but Colombia is in a far, FAR better situation that Venezuela. In Colombia the average wage is 250 USD, just like Venezuela had 10 years ago. Colombia's main problem was the leftist guerrillas (and later rightist paramilitary, which were anti-guerrilla's guerrilla). For the most part that problem is now solved, only very few groups remain, but it isn't like 10, 20 or 30 years ago where they controlled vast areas. The previous Colombian administrations, with the military aid of USA, reduced the guerrillas, and a peace treaty with the help of Cuba demobilized the majority the last administration. In fact some have moved to Venezuela... Colombia also accepts aid, being an US partner you can raise funds and deliver aid without anyone making a fuzz (ie. burning it), perhaps that's why you don't see it in the news... Currently Colombia's current crisis has to do with nearly a million Venezuelans flooding in, thanks to Maduro's "socialist" policies and rampant crime.

Why doesn't the US "spend money to reduce poverty"? I leave that to you. Perhaps you should think more in ways to increase wealth rather than reduce it...

The sanctions, as i have told countless times, do not target Venezuela as a whole. The sanctions go against specific individuals, who should not be handling stolen Venezuelan assets and money anyway. These sanctions are very well deserved, and in my opinion those people should be arrested and imprisoned anywhere they go in the world. They are criminals, as simple as that.
4037  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: PayPal fears Bitcoin :) PayPal CEO Dan Schulman Disses BTC & Praises Blockchain on: March 01, 2019, 12:17:52 PM
Paypal is one of the things that becomes obsolete with Bitcoin. Like banks, unless Paypal also becomes an exchange or payment processor (ie. deposit bitcoin pay fiat), people will simply stop using it. The main problem with Paypal is that depends on credit cards. Why? We should be able to move our funds from/to bitcoin.

But that is ok. The whole sector either embraces Bitcoin or will start getting kicked to the sides. Why he doesn't ask one of the actual creators of Paypal, you know, Elon Musk? That should give him a hint...
4038  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [4+ EH] Slush Pool (slushpool.com); Overt AsicBoost; World First Mining Pool on: February 28, 2019, 08:37:26 PM
Pool Luck seems to be very low
Any particular reason or just "bad luck"?

From https://slushpool.com/dashboard/?c=btc :
Last 10 Blocks
92.50 %

Last 50 Blocks
92.83 %

Last 250 Blocks
84.99 %

That's the thing with luck... You could increase your chances, but not the results. Ie you may have a 99% chance of winning (buy 99 tickets from a lottery of 100 tickets), and yet you can lose, TWICE  Sad

Throw a coin, should be 50/50 right? actually there is a 2% chance it lands standing. What are the chances of the next throw to make it land standing again? 2%. Very unlikely but possible.

In theory it should approach 100%. Another possible reason for bad luck could be misbehaving mining equipment or rentals, not sure what the exact issue is why some pools do ban some gear.
4039  Other / Off-topic / Re: have you been to Japan ? what was surprising thing to you? on: February 28, 2019, 08:09:35 PM
I also went in 2014, it is incredibly clean and organized.

I went for an important reason (marriage) but i managed to visit a place i always wanted to visit: Akihabara (lol). I could mention Steins;Gate but i already knew about it before that game/anime.

I still have a Suica card, it was useful. I think purchasing tickets would be more complicated than simply getting the card and putting money in it using a machine.

Also vending machines. My country has not seen vending machines in almost 3 decades due to criminality (they would get all vandalized). They are so convenient, extra points for being able to use the Suica inside the stations on them.

I didn't knew at the time, but i visited the park used in Occult;Nine, Inokashira Park, at that very moment the lake was also dried, which is very rare and is shown that way in that game/anime. Heh, i guess 5pb should be commended for being a Tokyo tourism promoter Smiley

It is true the Japanese don't speak English, so you have to learn Japanese Smiley

The Japanese culture is very different, it does take time to understand it. Watching media helps, but not completely. As a tourist you shouldn't have much trouble, but is best to go take a guided tour or have a good friend. Japanese people are very busy usually so this can be difficult.

Food is everywhere, and even if you don't like traditional, there are plenty of American franchises everywhere (ie. McDonalds). The trains stop at 11pm beware, the city is huge! Got to the top level of Skytree tower, you'll feel like an airplane there. I hope to return someday, and probably will.
