4041  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [∞ YH] solo.ckpool.org 2% fee solo mining 255 blocks solved! on: May 12, 2020, 05:16:13 AM
I will toss in   0.02

I will send 0.01BTC , so that's 0.03BTC  in, remaining is 0.06BTC, let us try to collect this as soon as possible so that CK can migrate the pool, and then we use the same address as pool funds, unless one or more contributors don't want to trust phill which I doubt,  we can have a multi-sig 2of3 controlled by 3 members and 2 can spend it, just in case.

All of this can be discussed later, first step is to get the server fees, 0.06 btc needed.

Phill please create the trezor account and post it here.
4042  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [∞ YH] solo.ckpool.org 2% fee solo mining 255 blocks solved! on: May 12, 2020, 03:17:25 AM

Phill, I suggest we keep the expenses to a bare minimum, keep in mind that most of the folks around here mine with a single miner or two, and not so many of them will be willing to contribute, and thus we should keep the fees low enough for the minority of us to cover it, it's not that I wouldn't want to help the guy who missed the block, but we should set our priorities.

So the way I propose for this to go is by:

1- Collect $770 / 0.09 BTC, send this right away to the VPS provider so that we have a pool up and running for a good 6 months.

2- An address for pool funds, no minimum or maximum for that, we don't touch that address unless

a- 5 months passed and we need to re-load the server balance.
b- Someone loses a block gets 50% of whatever that is there.

3- An address used directly for donations to CK if he decides to keep the fees at 2% if he doesn't want to receive donations he may choose to change the pool fees to 5%.

Now to ensure that we always have enough funds for the server and POTENTIAL insurance, those who use the pool for group rentals such as but not limited to willi9974 and ailikun could start a "trend" of say 1% of whatever they collect for each round goes to the pool wallet.

My 2 sats.

4043  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [∞ YH] solo.ckpool.org 2% fee solo mining 255 blocks solved! on: May 11, 2020, 11:47:24 PM
Alright, well the fee doesn't seem to be a problem. Would people be satisfied with it being advertised as "Not for profit pool, all mining is at miners risk." Just like a car park, all care, no responsibility blah blah.

From what I understood, you do want to keep the pool but you don't want to be held responsible if and when something goes wrong, I won't speak for others, but out of the few pools that offer solo mining, who would compensate a "missed block" worth over 100k? I am sure that no pool will do that.

So what is your responsibility and obligations? get a decent server, make sure everything looks technically correct, remove everything that is not important, Segwit, extra servers locations and etc, anything that might cause an issue should be removed, and that's where your duty stops, anything happens beyond that is merely bad luck, add a notification saying that "Due to many reasons, sometimes you may submit a valid block and the pool misses it, mine at your own risk", problem solved.

If I go to another pool, I won't trust them that they will do their best to avoid mistakes, I know you will, so mistakes do happen, I rather face mistakes with someone whom I know that will try his best to minimize them.

As for the fees, the first thing you should do IMO is getting the total cost per year for a server that will be MORE than enough to handle the pool operations, tell us about it, let's see if the community can fund it, as for your efforts and time, start 5% fees for your own efforts so that if blocks are found you get paid nicely, if not then you lost efforts, in other words, you did mine with your efforts instead of hashrate!( makes sense?), I don't think anyone will mind a 5% when they hit a BITCOIN block.

4044  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: It is 2020 time for a new diff thread. on: May 11, 2020, 09:51:25 PM
I did some calculations with the current figures :

If you have 3 cents per kwh, you make 11 cents a day with an S9, that's more like break-even, anything above 3 cents is a no go with the S9, and most people don't have that cheap rate so unless something unusual happens these S9s will be selling for 20-30$ with PSU.

The Breakeven for S11 is 4 cents.
The Breakeven for S15 is 5 cents.
The Breakeven for T17 is 6 cents.

Without proper tuning, and a drop in difficulty/ BTC price rising, any gear that is either equality efficient or less efficient compared to T17 will be in trouble, but a drop in difficulty is more than likely, but that won't last long, it's only a matter of a few months until the M30s and S19s kick the T17 out of the game as well, I am assuming that the average rate for miners is 6 cents per KWh, so if you don't want to count on the price to save you by going to much higher numbers, and you own any of those gears, it's probably a good time to re-think your options before it's too late.

Stay strong fellow miners.
4045  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: After Jun 10, Bitmain will no longer repair these Antminers: S11, S9, T9+, etc.. on: May 11, 2020, 09:34:36 PM
I must say I am shocked they didn't just raise their price for repair to an absurd amount so that most people wouldn't bother and they could still be greedy and grab every satoshi. Odds are they just don't have or want to stock parts for these models.

Honestly, If I were Bitmain's CEO and I see newbies still buy my S19 for $2000 for end of August delivery with a daily profit of $6.9 before the power bill, so that's over a year to ROI if you have free power, I wouldn't bother with the warranty to start with, thanks to all those who want to get rich quickly, Bitmain doesn't have to bother with anything, just slightly overclock their S19, call them S21, sell them for $4000, and people will still buy it.

I think disabling the hashboard due to a bad chip is not something the firmware does for no reason if you could technically mine with 1 chip why wouldn't they just allow you to do so?

Above is an image of T17 hashboard and how do "electrons travel", those Asics are connected to one another, every miner design is different, I remember S9s had some different domains of chips where some boards could run with few chips, I don't think the T17 will let you do that.
4048  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [∞ YH] solo.ckpool.org 2% fee solo mining USA/DE 255 blocks solved! on: May 11, 2020, 07:20:17 AM

I checked your thread and I saw that you aim for 24 hrs of mining, don't forget the halving is in 13 hours at most, so by the time you rent the power, I suggest you aim for a higher hashrate for a shorter time, so instead of 10PH for 24 hours, maybe 60PH for 4 hours, it doesn't really affect your chances anyway.

Good luck to everyone trying to hit a solo block of 12.5BTC, this will all be history and a few hours.
4049  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: It is 2020 time for a new diff thread. on: May 11, 2020, 06:11:15 AM
Mining rewards are less but become more frequent...

Not sure this is the best way to describe it, the will be no "more frequent" rewards, the frequency of the rewards is always the same, the amount will be less unless 50% of miners leave the game which will never happen, so overall the halving is a bad thing for us miners, it doesn't matter how you try to look at it, deflation "should" cause the price of bitcoin to rise, but there is no guarantee in that.

... but is this what I can expect?

expect a 50% drop in rewards, and 25% in difficulty ( roughly), so this means you will get -25% less rewards post halving, sad times indeed but we got to get through them.

Also wondering if sites like Nicehash will be more profitable to point my gear to instead of pools.  At least until difficulty drops down.

If this was a smaller coin halving, I would say yes, NH will most likely be better, but this is BTC, it has over 95% of the Sha256 hasharate, so there could still be a small potential profit in NH but nothing major I would say, although the better question is should you stay on PPLNS pool or move to PPS, that would be an interesting topic to speculate.
4050  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: I need help testing my new BTC miningpool on: May 11, 2020, 05:19:50 AM
but don't have enough to rent more than ~300TH.

If you can't afford to rent enough hashrate to test your pool, then that's a problem to begin with, to find a block in the next 12 hours you will need 2EH worth of power, the current rate on NH is about 15.8BTC per EH per day, so for 2EH and 12 hours that is exactly 15.8btc or $135,880, no way on the planet you are going to get that much hashrate while testing the pool.

Another ugly fact, since you mentioned fees of 2% it means it's not a PPS pool, and it's highly unlikely that anyone will mine on a small PPLNS block unless you would give them more than what the network would pay them, which you don't seem to be able to afford, now if you were to go PPS, then you will need a ton of BTC in reserve, which you don't have judging by what you wrote.

I am sorry if I sound mean, I am not, I am trying to tell you the facts the way they are. sorry.
4051  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Antminer S17 pro fixed Frequency and Voltage default firmware on: May 11, 2020, 04:54:17 AM
What to you leave work mode on when you set it up

Normal work mode, can you send me the kernel logs? and by the way, after flashing the Dec firmware, does it save the settings? I mean when you close the webpage and then go back to unlock the hidden features, do you see the voltage and frequency you saved or it shows null values?

on a side note, I don't use fixed voltage and frequency, I just tested it after you mentioned it didn't work for you, but it worked for me.
4052  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: HELP - Antminer S9 on latest FW, i want to change FW to overclock?? on: May 11, 2020, 04:35:27 AM
Is my only option to use SD card and this guide to get the FW that has a 'drop down menu' to Overclock...eg +1.5th, +2Th etc??

Yes, unfortunately, your only way out of that firmware is through an SDcard recovery, you can use T9 recovery firmware on S9, download it from > https://service.bitmain.com/support/download?product=Flashing%20SD%20card%20with%20image

Another question would it allow me to upgrade to latest BRAINS OS? without messing about as above??

Obviously NO!.
4053  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [∞ YH] solo.ckpool.org 2% fee solo mining USA/DE 255 blocks solved! on: May 11, 2020, 01:52:29 AM
What about we make it a community pool?

Why can't we just "donate" to keep the pool up and running, I mean how much would a decent server that will handle the pool cost anyway? or maybe if CK is down for it, he can say use 1% of the hash rate pointed to the solo pool to mine on a PPS pool to cover the server fees and lower the pool fees to 1%, if that is technically possible on his side, this all depends on the cost of the server/resources and whether or not he is willing to do it, let's see what he and the others think about this.
4054  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Antminer S17 pro fixed Frequency and Voltage default firmware on: May 11, 2020, 01:10:55 AM
I am thinking either I am doing something wrong or that it does not work with the older firmware.

What could you be doing wrong? I don't think you can do something wrong even if you intend it, you simply choose one voltage value, one frequency value and then hit save, so my guess is that August and November firmware don't save the settings.
4055  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin's Empty Blocks Analaysis. on: May 11, 2020, 12:42:19 AM
As requested by a few members, and after getting the data from LoyceV, here is what I came up with.

I excluded the years before 2016 so the data is only for 2016-2019, the reason behind this is the fact that in the early days, we had a ton of empty blocks, simply because at many times there were no transactions to be added to the block anyway, also most of the blocks come from "unknown" miners.

In this chart, I show the total time for all timestamps of empty blocks - the block which preceded it for the top 5 pools.

But I realized this figure might be misleading because finding more empty blocks will give the miner a lead in this chart, and since Antpool did find a ton of empty blocks most likely do the use of covert Asicboost, the figure above might not show any evidence of delaying transactions on purpose.

The next step was getting the average timestamp for those empty blocks, I got the total time difference and divided it by the total number of empty blocks per pool per year.

The above figure is pretty fair since it takes into account that larger pools tend to find more blocks and therefore find more empty blocks.

Based on the points mentioned in the previous comments, I will not attempt to conclude anything out of this study, everyone is free to interpret
these figures the way they like.
4056  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Antminer S17 pro fixed Frequency and Voltage default firmware on: May 10, 2020, 09:29:35 PM
Phill do you get this in the kernel log?

Code:
2020-05-10 21:20:48 frequency.c:761:inc_freq_with_fixed_step: chain = 1, freq_start = 535, freq_end = 550, freq_step = 5, is_higher_voltage = true
2020-05-10 21:20:50 frequency.c:761:inc_freq_with_fixed_step: chain = 0, freq_start = 550, freq_end = 550, freq_step = 5, is_higher_voltage = true
2020-05-10 21:20:50 frequency.c:761:inc_freq_with_fixed_step: chain = 1, freq_start = 550, freq_end = 550, freq_step = 5, is_higher_voltage = true
2020-05-10 21:20:50 frequency.c:580:inc_asic_diff_freq_by_steps: chain = 2, start = 535, freq_step = 5

I don't think the miner sets exact figures, it rather sets the MAX, you see in the kernel log it says "start with 535 and end with 550", I did save 550 in the frequency field, and it still shows in the setting when I go back to check it.

Keep in mind that I am using 'Wed Dec 25 09:47:07 CST 2019' firmware which is the latest firmware'.

Can you check the kernel log to see if yours shows start-end frequency?

4058  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: my antminer s11 has stopped working please help! on: May 10, 2020, 05:32:50 PM
Don't just remove the ribbon cable, unscrew the bars and remove the hashboard completely, if you keep only one hash board no need to test it on low power saving mode, for more than one board you can try it.

Edit: I found the SDcard recovery files > https://service.bitmain.com/support/download?product=Flashing%20SD%20card%20with%20image

There are two versions for S11 control board ,7007 and 7010, kindly make sure you use the correct firmware or your control board might not function anymore.
4059  Local / العربية (Arabic) / Re: ماهو Halving البيتكوين on: May 10, 2020, 05:42:54 AM

https://www.bitcoinblockhalf.com/

4060  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: T17/S17 malfunction: cases, solutions, remedies, RMA history on: May 10, 2020, 05:21:17 AM
Then had another thought..... I initially assigned this unit a worker name for the pool that I had previously used for an old unit which I have since sold.  Dont know if that could cause confusion with the pool.

Depending on how the pool itself deals with these settings, it might cause the issue, but as far as I know, having two machines with the exact worker name online at the same time causes no problem, but it's possible that the worker had expired on the pool and no longer considered valid and thus the pool refuses it, this is why I like to use CKsolo pool as a second or third pool option since it requires no registration whatsoever, to me it's the most consistent pool, if it doesn't work, I rule out the pool problem.

Anyway, if the reg "crc error error" shows up again, it is still safe to assume that it's a connection issue, maybe your router/isp blocks the pool after a certain amount of packets if it shows up again, use DHCP settings on the miner, if it fails, use a public DNS like 8.8.8.8 and at last, try a different router.
