4041  Other / Beginners & Help / Please check your spelling on: October 08, 2018, 08:30:54 AM
I find a lot of posts containing incorrect spelling. If one puts aside regional differences and typos, it still leaves a lot of words that are either misused or spelt incorrectly. This reduces the quality of a post, and can be the reason a post is skipped over by a merit awarder. This is because it shows a lack of care, and disrespect for other members reading the thread.

It's really easy to make a quick check - just copy the word into a Google search box, and hit enter. This will either confirm your spelling, or suggest a correction. Also, it will indicate whether the word is apposite. Just look at the first few search results, and you will see if your use of the word is correct for the context of your post.
4042  Other / Meta / Re: Is it possible to reach a high rank nowadays? on: October 08, 2018, 07:17:23 AM
Of course it's possible, but there are a few basic requirements. One is a reasonable level in the ability to communicate, and your opening post fails on that count. To gain merit, you need people to read your posts. and the wall of text you presented put me off trying to work through it. Had you split it into two or three paragraphs, then more more people would read it, and some of them will be merit awarders.

Another way to improve your ranking is to stop bothering about the merit system. Bitcoin Talk members have a wide range of skills, and by interacting in quality discussions, you can acquire some of those skills. and you can earn money by using them. Learning how to become a TwitBook spammer, and polluting the Bitcoin Talk forum will not build you a long term income, also as many of the projects fail, or provide low payments, they may not even be a productive use of your time.
4043  Other / Meta / Re: Levels on education on this forum? on: October 06, 2018, 03:28:28 PM

Uhh, considering the quality of posts on this forum, I wouldn't be surprised if most people were K-8.

I was thinking that they were closer to K-9. Smiley

4044  Other / Meta / Re: Hate against bounty hunters!!! on: October 06, 2018, 03:26:17 PM
The bounty hunters and their scammy ICOs  are the reason governments are considering implementing Draconian controls on the better cryptos such as Bitcoin. Why should we reward them for that? Shouldn't we be trying to restrict their activities, rather than encouraging them?
4045  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Trump for Noose - Tax Fraud on: October 06, 2018, 02:38:21 PM
It's terrible that people inherit money. It's far better that presidents like Clinton and Obama steal it from the country.

Please note - The personal opinion of Jet Cash is the opposite of the above statement.
4046  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Recive SMS for free top websites. on: October 06, 2018, 02:09:58 PM
So not content with allowing bounty spammers/scammers here, we now make it easier for them to cheat the bounty manager.

I hope bounty managers see this thread, and start insisting that spammers have to verify their payments by responding to a message on the original number.
4047  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: New York time with this forum time [CONFUSION ] on: October 06, 2018, 02:05:59 PM
Well we aren't on it at the moment.

We seem to be operating on BRT ( British Rain Time ).
4048  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: New York time with this forum time [CONFUSION ] on: October 06, 2018, 09:43:30 AM
Here is a historical note.

UTC is a time standard that has been adopted worldwide. It is based on the British Greenwich Meant time, which was established by the Greenwich observatory. GMT is a time zone and is used by some European and African countries. An important note is that neither UTC or GMT incorporate "daylight saving", and you will find that Britain uses British Summer Time during the summer months. There is a one hour difference between BST and GMT.

Why is GMT so important? Britain has been a major maritime nation for many centuries, and in 1884 the International Meridian Conference ruled that Greenwich had a meridian of 0. Ships could keep a chronometer set to GMT, and they could use this to calculate their current longitude.
4049  Other / Ivory Tower / Re: New Zealand "Digital Strip Search" on: October 06, 2018, 07:41:52 AM
The problem with this type of legislation is that it escalates the difficulty in detecting the real "criminals". It will probably be an inconvenience to the average traveller, and it may trap the odd unsophisticated tax evader, but the major criminals will just use more advanced protection methods. In these days of encrypted data transfer over the Internet, there is no real need to carry any incriminating evidence on a computer.
4050  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Brexit - Why do they call a second referendum a "people's vote" on: October 06, 2018, 07:13:22 AM
It's interesting that there are no replies in this thread, and it confirms that there is only minimal interest in Brexit outside the UK, and a lot of people are bored with it there as well. Given that it is an unexpected rebellion by the country that created the banking global elite via the Eton/Oxford priviliged elite ( Clinton was an Eton Rhodes scholar ), I find this a bit surprising. I suspect thart most people don't understand the major changes in the world economies that have started. Trump's breaking of the 1970s Petro-dollar agreement with Saudi is another manifestation of this rebellion.
4051  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcoin discussion is back on: October 06, 2018, 07:02:19 AM
Well it certainly looks a lot better than it used to. I see there are still posters using all capitals for their thread titles. That's a godd indication of a possibly low grade thread, and only two threads started by members I've got on ignore. It still seems to have quite a few "schoolboy" threads, and I didn't see a thread that tempted me to open it, but I'll keepan eye on it in case some meritable threads ( in my opinion) pop up.
4052  Other / Meta / Re: Should merit source distribute all sMerit? on: October 05, 2018, 09:15:37 AM
Tactac is a member of Fit to Talk, and I would be happy to work with him to create some English language discussion threads for any of these boards - Beginners, Political or Serious discussion. If we can create some good starter posts, then I can guarantee him some merits.
I have just register fit to talk forum since I am not a native English speaker so this will help a lot.

Thanks for signing up, and I have approved your application.

You can construct a thread starting post by posting on your local language board on Bitcoin Talk, and then linking to it in Fit to Talk. Alternatively you can start the thread on Fit to Talk for discussion with the other members.  We have got some Spanish translators, but we are a bit short of other languages. You can get started with the translation by using Google translate to post the topic on Fit to Talk. Don't do this on Bitcoin Talk, because it is really annoying to find Google speak here as a final post. However it is useful as a starting point, and we can sanitise and improve on the translation before you post the result in Bitcoin Talk. You will get full credit for the topic, but make sure you clarify the origin of the post to avoid any risk of a plagiarism accusation.

4054  Other / Meta / Re: Why are so many topic titles misspelled/Garbage? on: October 04, 2018, 05:33:37 AM
The only good thing about those titles is that they serve as a warning. I don't bother to open them.

The other annoying newbie habit ( and one that some members who ought to know better have as well ). Is the full nested quotes. Especially when it includes the opening post. I'm putting most of the perpetrators on ignore, but it is making it difficult to find posts to award with merits. I seem to be giving more to legendaries and heroes because of these annoying posting habits.
4055  Other / Meta / Re: What are the advantages after deleting the spammy posts? on: October 03, 2018, 09:45:21 AM
I might have given you a merit for the opening post, but that dreadful formatting put me off reading most of it.
4056  Other / Meta / Re: [MERIT][NSFN] We're destroying more merits than we're sending. Like, way more. on: October 03, 2018, 09:42:09 AM
I think this is why we should up the requirement to ten before they can have a signature

Just restrict signatures to members and above.
4057  Other / Meta / Re: Captcha bypass on: October 03, 2018, 09:27:52 AM
Does the captcha vary between countries. Whenever I change login details, all I have to do it to tick the captcha box. I think I have only triggered the image verification extension on a couple of occasions since it was implemented.
4058  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: A little help to grammar on: October 03, 2018, 09:04:57 AM
Although grammarly is very good and responsive for learning English language but here in this forum it doesn't seem more helpful than Fittotalk.

https://fittotalk.com/english-talk/index.php

Thanks for the mention. One of the objectives of the Fit to Talk project is to help members who don't have English as a first language, to create threads based on their local language post. I am a merit source, and I still guarantee a minimum of 5 merits for a very good and well constructed topic starting post. The topic should be about the use of Bitcoin or other crypto currencies in your country, or political comments if your country is one that has a rising enthusiasm for populism.
4059  Other / Meta / Re: Why was this post deleted? on: October 03, 2018, 08:57:49 AM
I've actually put the mining section on ignore. Unless you are a member of the Bitcoin Talk mining elite, then your post will probably be deleted. If they want that section to expand, and to help new and aspiring miners, then the mod should be replaced.
4060  Other / Meta / Re: Quality lost in the spam on: October 03, 2018, 07:39:55 AM
Browsing through the forum, I come across quite a number of quality posts in mega threads which goes unnoticed, and unmerited.
Could we have more presence on merit sources in those boards and threads which are just recovering from the spam attack of Tue past few months. This would encourage posters on those boards and lead to a general cleansing, and also quality posters would be rewarded, regardless where they post.

Report the spam and clean up the thread.
