The number of stupid/redundant posts will grow expoentially. Undecided
Yeah, but we early proponents are all gonna look supah smart, and that's what counts.  Cool

That's true. Looks is what counts. Not some fanciful money wannabe like Bitcoin.

Bitcoin is more likely to become a world reserve currency than a regularly traded currency by individuals, IMHO.

I'm not sure we're ever going to be able to solve having the blockchain handle the same number of transactions as a VISA or Mastercard, which means Bitcoin may end up becoming more "reserve-like" with several "banks" being trusted individuals that hold reserves of coin and offer their own services and each of the banks will just top off what they owe each other every day or couple of days.

It could be that if you own more than few dozen coin here in a few years you might end up being one of those banks, in fact.

Bitcoin was new when it first started; actually, it is still new. We needed the complete blockchain then. We don't need a blockchain that has every last Bitcoin transaction it it. All we really need for Bitcoin to operate is the first transaction that lists a particular Bitcoin address, and the current last transaction including that address. This would shrink the blockchain immensely. It would also make it more difficult for trackers to break the anonymity that Bitcoin DOES have. The complete blockchain could be kept in certain repositories just in case there ever truly was a need for a "ledger."

The question is in the heading. They will need a "FEW" more moderators.

What do you think?

It will not become "THE" major world currency. If it ever draws even (or close) with the dollar, rupee, ruble, ding-dong, pollywog, or maple syrup - that would still be pretty big.

Though I think the proportions of "Bitcoin is doomed" vs "new paradigm" threads will remain the same in that case - because its value will still be measured against other forms of currency. The only difference is there will be a million a day instead of a hundred.

TLDR this forum goes to shit

Actually, the dollar is on its way out as the world currency. Right now, as we speak, China, Russia, Germany, and some countries in Africa are starting to trade gold for buying oil. This is against their agreements with the International Monetary Fund. Yet, they are doing it because of the mismanagement of the USD.

All debt fiat currencies are doomed to fail. It's built into their nature, and the nature of greed in man.

Bitcoin is a thing that just might prop up the whole world while the Dollar concludes its crash.

Do you really want a global language? People are people worldwide. But it is interesting and exciting to see the differences in cultures. But I wouldn't want to live among every culture. Nor would I want to drag those into mine who would not want to come.

We need more altcoins.

Smiley

We have cultural languages already, they are the fiat currencies.

Fiat currencies are essentially the bankers making slaves of the users of a particular fiat. Of course, the bankers have see from history that you can't keep slaves forever. They rebel. So THESE bankers are doing it very shrewdly. They are giving the people the appearance of freedom, while keeping them essentially enslaved. What we see happening in all the world turmoil, is the people waking up to the fact that they don't have freedom.

Bitcoin is a major freedom in the world of currencies. The more altcoins we have, the more freedom we have.

Cultural languages include everything in a culture... not only the fiat they use. Some parts of a culture overlap into the way another culture does it. Altcoins will also overlap, with things like Mastercoin and Counterparty and MaidSafe providing the resources for it to happen.

Watching a football game is kinda useless, too. But look at how many people do it.

Since Bitcoin as the new world currency is yet in the future, probably by the time that it happens, the forum owners will have made this forum into something way more exciting than it is now.

Column H "Outgoing MSAFE Transaction ID", in that spread sheet, shows the transactions that have been processed.

Copy the first "Backer's Address" in the spread sheet and input it into masterchest.info to see an example of how processed transactions look with their MaidSafeCoin (SPT) balance.

Looks like they've barely started. Might be a long while until I see my Safecoins.

who can tell me how to check if I really received MaidSafe coin after I sent BTC to the address

davidpbrown just showed me the spreadsheet at https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1r4fv57JDNkW55P5dnwPmHF3rOhdt1Jn5I2DZFuZfmfU/htmlview?pli=1.

OR

"If you made payment with MSC then lookup is https://masterchest.info/lookupadd.aspx?address=ADDRESSGOESHERE"

Along the present, more practical lines, when are my Safecoins going to show up in my Masterchest wallet?

If that's not how it works, how do I access my Safecoins?

Smiley

You can see the number of coins allocated in the spreadsheet for BTC payments and the transaction id's noted there are progressing as they work on those. I guess when just depends then how far down the list you are.

Thanks. I'm not far down the line, but I don't see them in Masterchest wallet, yet.

I see there is a red bar across the spreadsheet. I'm guessing that it is to show the point they are at in processing.

so your only argument is "yes, maidsafe supports all this sick stuff, but the government is hitler!!!" seriously?

Maidsafe works with anyone that works with it. This means that it will be supporting good at times and evil at other times.

Government deceptively brought the debt fiat currency system into being. This money method allows way more corruption and evil than Maidsafe could ever think of doing.

With MaidSafe, people will at least have the privacy so that they can join together and stamp out the evil. But they first have to open their eyes and see what is going on around them.

18 BTC left.....hurry up  Grin

18 + 700 BTC left  Wink

Why +700?

6k reached....

its + 700 now.. who knows what the actual max will be.

When they get enough btc they expect.

They were hoping and expecting to raise a certain large amount of money - large above what they have already raised. They did not expect this big of a response initially. They offered 40% over their promised 17,000 Safecoins per bitcoin for all who responded in the first week. This means that they will have to pay out 40% more on a whole bunch of Safecoins that they were expecting to pay a whole lot less on.

Essentially, this means that they have not received the $amount they needed. So, who knows how long they might extend this whole thing just to get the funds that they need?

And now there are 13 over the limit Wink

From http://www.safecoin.io/:

"If your funds are returned to you it is either because you have sent currency to the wrong exodus address, e.g. mastercoin to the bitcoin address, or all coins have been sold and the sale has ended."

It's just going to take a little while to get over-the-limit coins returned. And, maybe MaidSafe will change the rules and allow a few extra.

The issue is whether or not you are going to live among modern society. ALL fiat currency is involved with distasteful and illegal activity. ALL government is serving and is served by distasteful and illegal activity. While MaidSafe might allow distasteful and illegal activity, it eventually will slow the governments way down, and this will slow the distasteful and illegal activity way down.

If you really hate unethical, immoral and illegal activity, start to do something about it. If you can't stand to even hear about it, you are totally in the wrong forum, the wrong society, and maybe in the wrong life.

Just remember, if there are other people wherever you go, there will ALWAYS be at least a smattering of BAD activity. You can't get away from it.

omg! does it mean that when somebody decides to store some child porn in this decentralized dystopia of yours, everybody in the network will have some child porn on his pc?

Yep. It's a distinct possibility. However, if your computer has any porn on it this way, nobody will know it, because it will be encrypted and chunked.

as a normal citizen, my concern already starts with the fact that there could be child porn on my computer and my activities could support child abuse. it does not start with the question whether somebody is able to discover this kind of sick content on my computer.

The website says, "To balance this, we decided to purchase all remaining MSAFE coins to ensure that backers who sent their bitcoins would have their orders fulfilled. This does mean that we can still accept bitcoin orders until the cut-off point at ~6000BTC." And they are at 5698 at the time of writing this.  Pretty amazing IPO.  https://blockchain.info/address/1KHfLixa2idRnZXMUfEisBati1vpywaH6E?offset=0&filter=0

6000 bitcoins. 3 mio usd. unbefuckingleavable.

do they already have a product, or is this all just a promise people invest 3 mio usd into?

They have a "product." It is pre-Alpha. Peruse the links and sub-links at https://github.com/dirvine.

I am a little worried about this issue.  I am all for the rights and freedoms of people to do what they want, but when it comes to hurting children, I don't approve at all nor do I want to indirectly support that kind of thing.  The first thing that came to mind with this project was drugs, porn, sex, terrorism, and gambling.  I don't know if I really want my computer to be supporting that network.  At the same time I am not sure if there is anyway to tell just what my computer is supporting or not supporting as it is all encrypted and chopped in bits.  But enabling a network to do encourage the abuse of children isn't cool at all.  I am all for being able to go to political sites and send messages to my friends without google profiling me for adds and the NSA connecting all the dots of my existence, but at what cost?  For now, I am definitely supporting the maidsafe platform and hope that internally they can find ways to deal with certain distasteful issues.

The advent of MaidSafe in no way requires you to become part of their network. So you do not need to come that close to them. However, if you pay your legal taxes, you are supporting a whole lot of Government Senators and Congressmen who are into child porn right now. Your best bet - if you are not going to actively fight it - is to move to a deserted part of the world, live off the land, shut down all your interaction with society, and hope nobody ever comes for you. Otherwise you are going to be getting your hands dirty, accidentally, a little bit all the time, right now, without MaidSafe.
