okay took a while but I have it running.  I will post back in about 1 hour .

i was doing 1400 on mmpool I am doing 1400 on westhash

I am Just about the same 1403  this is under clocked

But can someone tell me why it's runing at 1.4 Th instead of 1.7+-10%

yes  my watt settings are 180 x 4   = 720 watts  well at my meter 764watts  764/1403 = .55 watts gh   fan at 40   almost loud

if I want to do 1700 gh

my watt settings need be 288 x 4 = 1152  at my meter 1210 watts    1210/1700 =  .71 watts a gh  fan  at 80    very loud

I am  a big believer in underclocking asic's whenever I can.

Interesting news  Wink.
http://www.coindesk.com/spondoolies-tech-ceo-talks-new-asics-blockchain-lottery-device/
Quote
Spondoolies-Tech is currently working on two separate designs: a 28nm ASIC set to launch in early 2015, followed by fourth-generation chips manufactured using an unspecified FinFET node. Most cryptocurrency ASIC companies do not disclose their manufacturing partners and Spondoolies is no exception. Instead of describing the new chip as a 14nm or 16nm design, which would more or less identify the foundry, Corem prefers to use "advanced process" FinFET terminology.

..Corem indicated that Spondoolies has made a conscious decision to skip the 20nm node altogether.
..Spondoolies-Tech has decided to stick with the mature 28nm node for its third-generation ASIC, despite the fact that the company's first FinFET chip will ship a couple of months after rivals will have launched their 16nm FinFET ASICs...He added that the third generation is set to launch in late Q1, or at the beginning of Q2, next year. This points to a March/April timeframe.

smart move   by not tossing a ton of money at unproven 14-16nm asics'

bitfury did this with 55nm  they got very good numbers by redefining design and underclocking/undervoltage of the chips.

I have found in running mining gear underclock/undervolt often rules for profit.

I am still well under .6 watts with the  sp20  about .55-.57 a gh with underclock .  really helps my higher power costs.

I just placed an order.  I did not receive an email.  Was I supposed to?

M

If they are not automatic, the emails from SPT have some delay. You're not the only customer.
Support is with a couple of days delay too, maybe because of the weekend overlapping here .. I still got no reply from my emails relating to https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=521520.msg9672671#msg9672671

Meanwhile .. it's crap ... sorry for my choice of words ..
http://eligius.st/~wizkid057/newstats/userstats.php/1qKBcn5zvmaKaouUkfmAUdwErKtw4RTZr

Please tell us which machine failed  in your case it looks like you had an sp30 or sp31

as for 2 day delay.  fri and sat they are closed.

I have the sp20 it is very good after 1 week so good I ordered 2 more.--------------I underclock mine to 760 watts and 1324 gh I use mmpool.org to mine

I tested with btcguild and with westhash both good.

It is important to let people know what is wrong and what is right about a company products.
40584  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: December 01, 2014, 01:00:41 PM
It is probably too early to downclock SP30 (it will be more urgent at 80 bil difficulty), but did anybody try?
Since my machines are at the hosting sites, I was somewhat limited to try various settings.
However, is there a table from SPT that is sort of a guideline or some other reference?
Thanks

The most basic and easier way to do it is to limit the PSU to whatever you wish your miner to consume.

Is this really the best way to go? Specifications call for variations of the ASIC voltage (within 0.63-0.8V) if I remember correctly.

I used to lower the voltage in order to get to the desired W/GH, but jtoomim tipped me that each chip is different and limiting their voltage isn't the best way to do it. By limiting the PSU each chip can run at it's optimal voltage.

OK, sounds interesting. What was the approximate PSU limit to get to 0.55W/Gh for SP30? I have seen this number (0.55/Gh) being mentioned here somewhere.

I got it with an evga 1300 g2    right now I am getting 730 watts and 1324 gh.    but this was with the sp20

Temp Front / Back T,B
33 °C / 69,65 °C
Fan Speed
40
Start Voltage
0.655 / 0.655 / 0.633 / 0.633
Max Voltage
0.664
Max Watts
180 / 180 / 180 / 180

don't do that fan setting  try 60 and in a few hours check your temps
40585  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Mining newbie. What would you do if you did not pay for electricity? on: December 01, 2014, 04:27:29 AM
I am interested in mining. I have a decent amount of money to throw around and my one buddy wants to help. I talked to someone and they told me script is the way to go. I am getting the idea that I would get into a pool as well. Can anyone tell me what would be the best way to mine the most coins profitability wise minus the electricity? In case someone asks, lets say I had 25k to play with. Also how can I tell what machines/how many machines can be going at once without popping a 30 amp breaker? Would I be better going with a great hardware over time or with script? Thanks for any help you can offer.

simple answer is 30 amps of 120 v or 240 v     ..

I will do you math for free:

 30 x 120 = 3600 watts    75 % of that = 2700 watts
 30 x 220 = 6600 watts    75% of that = 5400 watts

you want sp20's on sale at spondoolies-tech.

if you underclock   and have 120 volts power you can do 3 units  and pull 2300 watts hash 4th

if you underclock and have 220 volts power you can do 6 units and pull 4600 watts hash 8th

cost = 814 a unit to the usa that counts shipping  so    3 x 814 = about 2500  you need 3 psu's  good ones

 http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-SuperNOVA-1300G2-ATX12V-120-G2-1300-XR/dp/B00COIZTZM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1417408332&sr=8-1&keywords=evga+1300+g2   3 psu's are about 550 some  wires a switch a router

so you are at 3050 make it 3100 and you run 3 units doing 4th

or you are at 6200  make it 6200 and you run 6 units doing 8th

free power and the net for free and cooling free.

if you do the smaller with your free power

3100 usd in by   dec 2015    you would be paid off and ahead around 1200 usd

6200 usd in by   dec 2015  you would be paid off and ahead around 2400 usd

most likely the above is conservative .  but If I was to offer consulting advice I would have to say that is a lot of power to get for 'free'   so you better understand that if that power cost 10 cents a kwatt it would be:

2000 usd  if you were doing the 3 sp20 method
4000 usd if you were doing the 6 sp20 method

so after 1 year a new startup would lose 800 usd or 1600 usd if you have no parts to start with.

general question I have 1 sp20 right now and 2 on the way.

do they auto set the ip to an empty spot? or do they all come pre-addressed   to 192.168.0.xxx?

I believe they all have DHCP enabled, meaning, whatever IP is not leased out by your DHCP server (router/gateway)

thanks for the info BTW it is much easier that way.

@ dogie please show some of the burnt up boards that happened with these for the sake of safety of our forum members.

You're free to post here as long as you use thumbnails or a link to an album. My unit keeps going low hash rate every few hours before resetting, but I think its the controller. I'll try and swap mine over later.

and  here is a thumbnail of mine with tiles under it. and garage door open to keep it cool.

but to start it it can't be cool so I had to close the garage door let the s-3 warm the area up to start it then open the garage door once it started to keep it cool.  that is finicky

40589  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Newbie needs some advice on: November 30, 2014, 10:48:39 PM
too loud for home use and they are not for a new person.

look into the lessor model they sell the sp20  it is on a black friday-cybermonday sale for $695 usd plus shipping
40590  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Nov 18th to Dec 1 diff thread (-0.35%) to (1.14%) on: November 30, 2014, 08:19:21 PM
spondoolies sp20's have been shipping the bitmaintech coupons had to help sell the s-4's.  So 1 or 2% jump looks pretty sure right now.

I purchased 2 sp20's and kind of want to get one more. I know I am not the only one doing this.

I expanded aswell.  With winter weather hard to pass up cheap/free cooling.

It will be the big centers that really give us a jump.   I thought they would wait till next gen, but the SP gear appears to have quite the lifespan with it's underclock. Guess time will tell.

even so, its virtually impossible to see 15%+ jumps happen many more times without an increase in BTC value. Its infeasible for people to routinely add that much to thier farms without rapidly hitting thermal or power limits and needing to rely on cloudmining or find a dedicated location. I think we will see
+0.2% this increase
+10% next
+6% after
+ 2% after, followed by a few more small increases unless hardware prices or bitcoin value changes

close to my thoughts..
+1
+6
+5
+2

same reasoning as you.

for me I max at 4-5k watts in the winter

2-3k watts in the summer well 1.5-2.5k watts in the summer

home miners like me must be less then 20% of the network.

but even big  (5ph or more)  guys would be morons to expand  if they are turning profits now.

the only way is  they get a cheap 0.1 watt machine.

by cheap;

cheap to build not cheap quality.

todays numbers are

(+0.13%) about  40,353,975,917

https://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/difficulty

some are lower
http://www.bitcoincharts.com

has it at 40285785777

this is (-0.035%)

http://blockexplorer.com/q/estimate

       40039972197     that is (-0.645%)

40591  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Block Erupter Prisma (>=1.4 T/device, 0.75-0.78 W/G, <1 BTC/T, October Shipping) on: November 30, 2014, 08:11:18 PM
Well I got good results with mine> but  a really finicky machine.

I could do 1400gh with 1200 watts  all day and all night long.

 but It :

 1)needed extra fan for cooling.
 2) would not underclock and hold the settings.   if I set it at lower freq it would start at 950 watts and 1100 gh and over night be 1050 watts and 1200gh

I did not feel I could travel away from it and leave it alone.  I do this with my s-3's and now with my sp20's

I go on short 2 day trips and the antminers and spondoolies hold onto the underclocks.

I turned mine back in for a small loss.

oh not to mention I had to close my garage door to warm the room to get it to start.

then open the garage door to keep it cool enough to run.

A lot of work for me.  Plus the fear of burning.  I just could not do a proper setup with it.

Now on a side note these were lucky gear for me.  I really wanted sp20's but they were 1100 usd when this prisma came out.
So I went cheap purchased the prisma and the sp20's dropped over 400 bucks in price.
So I lost 50 bucks on this and saved 400 on the sp20  net 350usd gain.  I was lucky with the short tubes as well.

yeah .55 to .57 watts on underclock will really allow for  long use.

With my higher  power costs I need to get efficient gear.

BTW I grabbed a third sp20.

I gave up can't deal with it anymore.  Maybe next month I will come back.

I noticed you were gone. I only have 1 miner pointed here and plan on staying this time. I left last time before a block was found and just gave up any payment I had earned.

yeah I caught most of the good luck blocks. Missed some of them.  But I did catch all the bad luck blocks.  When I get some more hash  I will point something here.  ( purchased 2x sp20's).  So maybe tues or weds I will point gear back here.

Almost pulled the trigger but saw they wanted $119 for shipping.  I hit the little red x.

yeah it comes to 814 .    if you have a psu that will work these are pretty good

if you do not have a psu the s-4's may be a better deal for you.

an s-4 comes to 930  .

I have a house full of s-3's and psu's.  the sp20 is a good upgrade for me.

my goal is sell 6 s-3's   they use 2200 watts and 2 evga's  1300 g2  to hash  2760gh

I should be able to run 3 sp20's use 2280 watts and the same 2 evga's    to hash 4000gh

I save :
1)room
2)wires
3)power  efficiency

plus   I get 1.2th more hash

with the sale of the 6 s-3's  my cost to upgrade is okay  say 3 x sp20's  = 2500 - 1200 for the  6 s-3's =  an outlay of 1300.
If I mine the sp20's for 3 months I get back the 1300.   but i had the psu's on hand

You just want to play with new tech-totally understandable.
Otherwise, what prevents you from just keeping your 6 S3-you said that they already paid for themselves and they are very-very profitable (with zero cost and 10c/kw electricity), especially considering the heat. I calculated that if you include heat savings, each S3 uses just $20-21/mo and produces ~$55-61/mo right now.

That said, I am greatly salivating at Sp-20 just because I want something new, maybe will pull the trigger anyway.
I am thinking of putting Sp-20 possibly in upstairs attic that is not air conditioned.
Have anybody done this (Sp-20 at wildly fluctuating temperatures)?

well remember I had 12 s-3's moved 3 out down to 9 s-3's  moving 3 more out drops me to 6 s-3's.

and now the 3 sp20's .

so I will have 9 pieces of gear not 12.

my space and my power is limited.  I can  fit 12 s-3's

Actually I can 15 s-3's in my garage and 2 in my friends office  in terms of space.

in terms of power I can run 12 s-3's in my garage and 2  s-3's in my friends office.  this would be realistic for the winter and doable. max of 6.5th

 having 4 sp20's   and 6 s-3's  max of 8.6th

better yet 7 sp20's no s-3's  works better. 9.1th max  .

my issue is power cost is high in NJ :

16 cents JUNE 1 to Sept 30
10 cents OCT 1 to May 31--------------with the bonus heat savings factored in.

I get .55-.57  watts   with the sp20 underclocked

The s-3's go down to .74 watts   maybe .68 with the pencil mod.

The extra efficiency means a lot.  So for me the change over from s-3 to sp20 makes sense.  I stay in the game longer and this gives me more time for the bull runs like  March-April 2013 or Oct- Nov 2013.

Those 4 months  made more for me then the other 25 months of mining I have done.

This might seem like a stupid question, but has anyone attempted or even have (2) of those Block Erupter USB to UART Adapters running on a single rPI? are there any addressing issues, or is it even possible?

tia

Works ok for me. I couldn't get it to work with more than 2 using a hub, but it might have been a problem with the hub.

thanks guys! i already have one on the way, and with the setup I'm thinking of implementing I'll need (2) of those adapters to run on one rPI.
I really appreciate the knowledge you guys have. It's always good to be able to bounce ideas around, and figure out better ways to have these miners run. 8-)

once you get it let us know how it is working for you. remember to keep it cool  once it is running.

oh I am shooting 20 th at mmpool as I type for  a few more hours.

thank you Mr Ph. it has been recorded in my control panel, i see.
I think we muse be close to this month's block now. I'm on tickover so the sooner the better!

I would like to hit that block on mmpool today!

With this order I am at 3 sp20's and 9 s-3's.  2 s-3's are at a friends office.  (big power discount 2.5 cents a kwatt vs 15 cents)

I want to pull the 2 s-3's and put in 1 of the sp20's.

If I do this that sp20 will run all of 2015  and some of 2016 at 750 watts and 1300gh.

It will earn over power costs until diff = 500g  and I don't know if that will ever happen as the network would need to grow over 12x its current size.

It would be nice if this  office setup could do more then 800 watts but he limits me to 800-850 watts.
