WHERE is the Antistatic wrist band? Can't imagine that BFL chose to ignore basic safety measures.
I've been tearing apart and repairing computers and electronics for 15 years and I've never once fried anything due to static. I've tried intentionally to fry things with static, to no avail. My brother did fry his ethernet port on his laptop due to static, but that's not exactly a situation you'd expect to use a wrist band anyway.
Depends on the room and the Relative humidity..... I remember having to spray water on the floor in our old computer room... people would drag their feet in and touch the keyhole.... Pow.. goes the PC
actually most times it would just restart.... on a few occassions the PC would not start again.
