Even if ETH has been my biggest earner, I have to agree that it is also running out of potential like bitcoin did in the past. In all probability, EOS will eventually make it obsolete. My senses tell me that EOS will get the most hype because of this in the coming year or two.

LOL. Quoting for posterity.  Will consider for a tshirt, or part of my dark ages crypto quote collage I will be hanging on my wall in a decade or so.

I understand if this can be a little confusing for you.

Straight to the personal attack.  Classy.  You got nothing Bittard.

I call these the Jihan dumps.  They are sure lot's of fun.

4084  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 21, 2018, 04:21:06 PM
Pages are artificially scarce. Even if the users run out of posts they are willing to dump, a mod could jump and just start deleting posts himself.

Didn't Rpietela already fork the WO thread and create Theymos' actual vison for the WO thread?

You party poop pessimist, explorer poorer.   Tongue

In my time perusing this thread I seem to have noticed you have a tendency to assume status (poorer), or try to guess how many bitcoins a particular person holds.  Usually commenting that it probably shouldn't matter.  But still you do.

Do you ever consider you could be off in some of your guesses?

I just asked Bitcoin who it's favourite child was... look who it told me:

Ironic that everyone here wants a Lambo yet has utter contempt for Roger Ver and CSW:

The only two narcissistic shitheads in the crypto space that actually drive those tool wagons.  Roll Eyes  Tongue

Meh.  Theres a big big difference between wanting a Lamborghini and wanting to play along with a bet, which if it came to pass would be tremendously epic.

A simple 4 cyl diesel truck is my personal vehicular jam.

And I already own one.

Bitcoin is unfolding like the dotcom crash — just 15 times faster

Edit: Amazon crashed from a high of over $100, to a low of about $10 in 2000. 18 years later, they hit $1,578. If we apply the same recovery gain percentage to the recent bitcoin low of ~$6,000, and assume 15x recovery speed, we'd hit ~$946,000 in Apr. 2019. This is all based on questionable math and a clickbait article, but still fun to think about.

$946k per btc in about a year? if that comes true I will buy a lambo for everyone that merits this post.

Gotta admit I am a sucker for an asymmetrical bet.

I mean... aren't we all, kinda?

Next week the G20 is coming up and they will also talk about crypto. As stated in the public document of the G20(: https://back-g20.argentina.gob.ar/sites/default/files/media/finance_ministerial_highlights.pdf) they understand that crypto has the potential to promote financial inclusion but at the same time they will try to analyse implications to financial stability, tax evasion and financing illegal activities. These statements are nothing new and very similar to what was said previously at the US senate hearings.

Could this have implications on Monero?

The other day I asked about the impact that the G20 might have on Monero and didn't get much attention. I guess that the line of thought is that no one really cares about what the G20 has to say about BTC or XMR since they can't stop us from having and using XMR.

What scared me though is that BTC (XMR followed) went on a run on the news that there won't be any special regulations coming up soon. This is strong evidence that govs and central banks have a very strong impact on crypto and can do whatever they want(weren't BTC and XMR born to be out of this system?). The fact that XMR price is so dependent on regulations is scary and this is a fact shown by the price movements following the news. Having no tight regulations is of course positive but what will happen when a crackdown arrives?. BTC and XMR just showed that they are super dependent on what govs and central banks say.

In the hypothetical scenario of upcoming regulations for privacy coins (bans on exchanges for example) XMR will be strongly affected as shown by positive response to G20 news.

I thought that XMR was way more resilient to regulations. Unfortunately correlation works both ways, up and down

Monero is flying under the radar, and riding on the goodwill towards bitcoin. The regulators are years behind and don't even understand bitcoin yet. By the time the full impact of bitcoin on the economy is known, regulatory regimes are set up, etc. it will be too late to stop Monero. We'll have decentralized exchanges and atomic swaps.

I imagine you and I are similar cryptosophically.  Bitcoin maximilists at heart who see Monero as either being what bitcoin meant to be or being a perfect compliment blockchain.

I agree with your above analysis.  The question I keep asking is what does Monero's survival look like in the light of a maturing layer 2?  Does it:

-Hold it's niche as a pure 100% privacy blockchain where everything down to the settlement level is obscured and therefore it survives

-Find a way to merge with Bitcoin or in some other way survives?

-Is it made obsolete by functionality that eventually comes to BTC?  And how long 'till this time?

Fungibility is actually a thing...

Yes.  Welcome to the thread. Wink

maybe btc is different, but pumps like this are typical for bear markets.
bull usually does not involve 20-30% day gains (apart from blowoff tops).
we shall see.

I hate to say it, but you are probably right.

Still... you DO see bigass candles on bigass volume when markets TURN.

Is that happening?  Million dollar (1btc?) question.

Not to be Debbie Downer, but do you remember in summer of 2014 when:

1. Price was held steady sideways @ $420/btc for nearly 2-1/2 months. Almost the whole summer. This felt like forever.

2. Price then pumped with bull flags to ~$650/btc. or so. Many said this was the sign that the downturn and sideways was over.

3. Price crashed again in 2015 to ~$200/btc. .... nearly 7 months later!

That's why I've never trusted this market. Once whales have control of the float, they can peg it wherever they want for whatever length of time they wish.

Oh, I remember.

And I think that scenario is somewhat LESS likely than the one I posited.  But I think the original scenario is most likely.  We are still in a bear, but hopefully not one that needs to last years.

That said, I do still see a lot of reasons to hope.  Fundamentals are WAY different now than they were in 2014.  In 2014 Bitcoin was magical internet money.  Today it is *nearly* a household word.  Free(ish) nations are inching towards giving it room to grow as opposed to regulating it to death (we still have a lot to see here... and the next two days will be interesting)  At the same time the scourge of "ICO"s is under scrutiny, which I consider to be good.  Roguish and authoritarian states are either mining or creating cryptos.  Mixed, but goodish.  Layer 2 is in!  It's like the birth of the web.  The internet had been around for years.  Then suddenly there were all these pages with this guy on them:

And that's where we are.  The real use cases are coming.

There are a lot of really smart people in the world.  And they are the ones who have the money.  Some don't like this fact, but it is what it is.

They are going to figure out what we have known for years.

Soon.™

Was doing a comparison on yesterday's volume at the red trend.
conclusion: No one wanted NEO at 58$ but the buy trend for monero was the same as when NEO was 110$. So it clearly signifies real support is there for XMR even in down trend.

Everyone always picks on pets.com.  But there were so many, and so many were a big deal back inthe 90s.  Read this for some good history:
http://www.complex.com/pop-culture/2012/10/the-50-worst-internet-startup-fails-of-all-time/freeinternet

Broadcast.com. Blue Mountain.... myspace...  so many.

They didn't all die the same way.  Some were bad ideas from the start.  Some were executed poorly.  The media touted many of these as companies that would change the world as we know it, and the money flowed in like a river.  And then flowed out like a toilet flush.

I believe we are seeing the very very first stage of the alt-coin toilet flush.

Monero is not in the toilet.  It is sitting in the bath with a glass of Barolo.

This could take years, or go faster than we all expect... hard for me to say.  And is Monero at any risk?  I'd say so.  It could be a Yahoo in the grand scheme of things.  Will Bitcoin replace the need for it with layer two?  Maybe.  But not for a while, and it is also possible that Monero becomes Bitcoins privacy layer... I dunno.

I believe it's correct I have investigation about The Monero cryptocurrency I'll invest the all Cash.

I'm sorry.  I try to ignore the spam posts.  But this one is so good.  Also I took a screenshot of Fishcoin.  In 5-8 years it might end up in a framed collage on my wall along with a lot of other things that will be fun to glance upon while sipping some 25 year whiskey.

wow

ether's done innit?

No offence to it's fans.

Boy I sure hope so.  So many thing about that project are bad ideas.  And Layer 2 on BTC is going to crush it.

This pitchfork is still holding.

Best analysis so far, simple, intuitive, symmetrical, factual, timely.  You dont need to understand the theory behind it to see the possibilities.
+ Merits.

(It also spans a constant 10 bagger.  I mean what's an order of magnitude between friends?)

oh man

a test at 6000 looks cooked in at this point

I don't usually find "drawing triangles" to have any use. But that triangle seems to match up perfectly with the next area of support. Maybe you found the one triangle that actually means something!

This simple line is also signaling something... maybe...

Well good afternoon Bitcoinland. Just got online after successful surgery Friday.

I see I missed some excitement while I was away... big dip and big recovery... currently $8172USD/$10700CAD (Bitcoinaverage).

It's pretty much back to where it was before I went in. Woke up and decided to fire up the laptop just in time to catch the end of the rally.

I guess my bladder alarm still works.   Cool

Nothing to do now but relax in the Mexican sun and convalesce until I get my sutures removed on Thursday. I can't fly for at least a couple more weeks but at least I can head out to the jungle later this week.

I'm currently toothless with very fragile gums after bone grafts to my jaws. Needless to say, I'm on a totally liquid diet. Ever have pork tacos pureed in a blender? Delicious!

Did anybody actually read Jimbos post ?

Jimbo, i apologise in behalf of all these money orientated people here, they have nothing other than money in their brain.
You heartless bunch.

Also jealous.  He's at the beach getting new teeth!
