received more "insight" on that february 2014 "event" from those nutjobs (?) at the farsight institute. just dropping here for -- I don't know -- entertainment?: _Implications Posting #4:_ _Above all else, those who govern seek to control what the masses accept as true, and there is nothing that they will not do in order to achieve this since it is the sole source of their power. The belief that those who govern would not brazenly manipulate knowledge simply for their own benefit is the single most important belief that supports their continued reign. This belief always leads to confusion, despair, and relentless cynicism from within the ranks of those who are controlled. Once this belief is abandoned, free will returns absolutely, and great change is inevitable._
_Notes:_ _1. This is one of a series of “Implications Postings” that refer to an announcement that will be made during the month of February 2014. Once made, news of this announcement will be available at www.farsight.org and elsewhere._ _2. These postings are designed to encourage broad public discussion of the February 2014 announcement. They do not directly address the specific content of the announcement._

Couldn't some of the airdrop funds be used for the bounty?
That would introduce some additional trust issues. I would've had to have been announced beforehand.
|

I would love to hear some plans for unclaimed coins (& timeline for being able to claim them). Obviously the dev(s) should make a profit off of their ideas and time but announcing that X% of unclaimed AUR will be donated to Icelandic charities would do a lot to calm the objections of folks calling any 50% premine a scam.
The spike in network hashrate seems to have abated but persisting high difficulty means that mining is sort of at a crawl...
How about a bounty for someone implementing K. gravity well?
I think time to claim is 1 year. Where should the bounty come from? Maybe we should setup a bounty pool and donate?

Thank you! Sent some satoshis your way as I've only just started mining AUR and don't have any yet. Do you think it would be possible to spruce up the visual apperance of the BE to give it an Icelandic theme? 17jZhGHYnBVQQBtdPno8rtq6jztU6NCPVm ;-) Thanks for your donation. Before taking care of appearance (it's on the list), I have to fix the addresses (they are all wrong). Does anyone know the address_version and magic for AUR or where to look these up in the source code? https://github.com/baldurodinsson/auroracoin-project/blob/56e7650690dec94389992cb058e96d8739d253c7/src/base58.h#L281thanks, Balduro. Still need more help. This is coin config (bitcoin-abe) for litecoin: datadir += [{ "dirname" : "/home/aur/.AuroraCoin", "chain" : "AuroraCoin", "code3" : "AUR", "address_version" : "u000e", "magic" : "u00fbu00c0u00b6u00db" }]
what do I need for AUR? litecoin: PUBKEY_ADDRESS = 48, // Litecoin addresses start with L
auroracoin: confused Think it should be 0x97 https://github.com/bitcoin-abe/bitcoin-abe/blob/master/doc/FAQ.htmlno, hex(23) = 0x17. got it working correctly now. datadir += [{ "dirname" : "/home/aur/.AuroraCoin", "chain" : "AuroraCoin", "code3" : "AUR", "address_version" : "\u0017", "magic" : "ûÀ¶Û" }]
also note the backslashes in the JSON hex encoding right before the 'u's? I forgot these before (they're missing in many examples).

isnt there anyone interested in buying at all?
the prices miners offer are generally a bit high. There's a huge airdrop inflation coming, you know?

Hello everyone,
after a long while I'm back using abe. Want to make a blockexplorer for Auroracoin.
I configured like this initially (copied from litecoin):
datadir += [{ "dirname" : "/home/aur/.AuroraCoin", "chain" : "AuroraCoin", "code3" : "AUR", "address_version" : "u0030", "magic" : "u00fcu00c1u00b7u00dc" }]
Problem is addresses have wrong format, like this
6KZU2wRn17sLrxNryFK6CG8KUvBdpArbD8QxwHDW
instead of like this:
AL8vRddTujqaFJQ3feZpg1jYHz6Jv2Rkwc
I'm pretty sure the magic is correct. From auroracoin sources, main.cpp:
pchMessageStart[0] = 0xfc; pchMessageStart[1] = 0xc1; pchMessageStart[2] = 0xb7; pchMessageStart[3] = 0xdc;
So the "magic" is correct, right?
Don't know what to set address_version to, though. People have been pointing me to base58.h:
PUBKEY_ADDRESS = 23, SCRIPT_ADDRESS = 5, PUBKEY_ADDRESS_TEST = 111, SCRIPT_ADDRESS_TEST = 196,
What value for address_version and magic do I need to use in order for the addresses to start with the correct prefix?
Am I missing something else in the config?
scratch the above, I got it figured out: [/datadir += [{ "dirname" : "/home/aur/.AuroraCoin", "chain" : "AuroraCoin", "code3" : "AUR", "address_version" : "\u0017", "magic" : "ûÀ¶Û" }
(forgot the slashes before the 'u's in JSON hex encoding (web-pages seem to eat these), needed to subtract one from each magic byte and got the address_versoin wrong (it's 23, not 30 for AUR)

As various posts by knowledgeable people in this thread demonstrate, the Airdrop is technically feasible. There should be no doubt about that.
I am finishing a statement for release within 48 hours. I have taken into consideration many of the concerns I have seen on the forum and reddit. It will hopefully answer the questions people have been asking about the details of the Airdrop and the aftermath.
The coins will be worthless, the reputation of cryptocurrencies in Iceland damaged and my time will have been wasted if I don't make good on the plan. So chill.
Balduro, I congratulate you for trying this experiement and I sincerely hope you're not scamming us. I'm really excited about this experiment. If this works to a considerable degree, it can set precedent. One could argue about the specifics of the coin itself, but I wont. It is what it is and I want to help. Is there a place where you coordinate efforts? I'm close to making a blockexplorer site, but I'm not sure wether someone else is already on it and I'd like to avoid duplicating effort at this point. Where can I reliably find out? Another great thing to have ready on March 25th would be a mobile wallet, no?

Is it possible that withdraw isn't working?
I tried last night (about 8 hours ago). It didn't work (after entering address and amount and klicking the button, the button disappears and then appears again after about 1-2 seconds). Nothing happens, no tx, no balance deducted.
Same behaviour now.

But if Islanders will attach some value and will start to use Auroracoin people from other countries will also attach the value.
This is exaclty the point. (If not a scam), the success of this coin depends on adoption in iceland. It happened before in Iceland (a private currency replacing the government one): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_CCpj_myGOs#t=802Very nice story indeed. Vouchers issued by a construction company for "a qubic meter of concrete" came to be used as currency and at one point were even accepted by the government as tax payment ("they had use for it"). So this is entirely possible. Of course there are myriads of failure modes for this experiment, but I like it, will follow it closely and am investing some time and money already ![Wink](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/wink.gif) . (clarification on handling of premined funds and the airdrop would be very appreciated)

Does it not bother you guys that 47 people own a third of the bitcoins?
Not very decentralized to me.
Bitcoin has greater wealth distribution than the rest of the economy. Guess it all depends on what you compare it to. Yes, greater wealth distrubution; but you can't deny the fact that it favors the early adopters (like almost everyhting in life does, though.) Bitcoin would never have gotten off the ground without hefty early adopter reward. At least they can't print. I don't see a problem.
