Is that what he was talking about? I thought he was talking about me proving that the new exchange was a group of high schoolers. Wow. What a tool.

Check out this thread Matthew.

When I clicked on the url it only lead me to announcement page.
Was it just me...?

In exchange of my disappointment I will post the site I liked personally!
www.firstnationalib.com

Has anyone heard of this site? I searched for some info and figure out that it is a company in New Zealand handling fx, gold and bitcoin. I am curious, so if anyone know about the site, please let me know!
 Smiley

You complain about people not taking your venture seriously, but then post a link to your own website without declaring your interest?  Way to establish credibility.

And for what it's worth, checking out the business related records of new companies isn't "snooping" - it's the kind of due diligence which everyone should be doing before deciding to place their funds or do other business with new ventures.
4103  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin with Immanuel - Project Mainstream, Phase 1 on: October 08, 2011, 10:49:36 PM
There are a ton of things on that website which should have screamed "parody" at people, but the thing which amuses me most is that no-one seemed to think that a Nassau PO Box was an odd choice despite knowing that Immanuel is located in the US.  Even if people thought the site was genuine, that should have been a huge red flag demanding explanation.
4104  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Trade-BTC.com is a scam run by high schoolers on: October 08, 2011, 08:37:12 PM
The intriguing question is whether the person who gave refunds to those scammed by Ryanwebber was Bram Kornfield's father, in an attempt to keep his son out of trouble, or someone trying to deflect attention so that a bigger scam could be put in place.
4105  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Trade-Btc.com Brand new Bitcoin Exchange, buy sell and send Bitcoins! on: October 07, 2011, 09:50:37 PM

Do I get a badge for quickest exchange crasher?

I think you'll have to share.  2112 stated calling bullshit days ago based on the evasiveness about the business address.
4106  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Trade-Btc.com Brand new Bitcoin Exchange, buy sell and send Bitcoins! on: October 07, 2011, 09:31:30 PM
Well that was entertaining.  Grin

Is this the shortest-lived exchange in the history of Bitcoin?
4107  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Trade-Btc.com Brand new Bitcoin Exchange, buy sell and send Bitcoins! on: October 07, 2011, 08:41:24 PM
Good luck guys, if there's this much of a hangup over possible information, ranging on the possible stalking range, then I do not want to be involved with Bitcoins. Matthew I mean no insult to you, but you have went and found the information on several children. I may say this is quite odd. If this is how you wish to go about your business then please go ahead. But this is something that I do not wish to involve myself with.
Thank you everyone for your support.

You put the names of those children in your "about us".  You should absolutely have assumed that people would try to find out everything they could about those associated with the venture - it's called due diligence and what people do in the business world.
4108  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Australian wanting to buy bitcoins from fellow Aussies. Netbank/Paypal/Alertpay on: October 07, 2011, 06:22:35 AM
Hi Andre

While you're around I just wanted to ask you if your users should be concerned about the current strike-off action which is in progress against your parent company by ASIC?

http://www.search.asic.gov.au/cgi-bin/gns030c?juris=9&hdtext=ACN&srchsrc=1&acn=131700779

I realise that this could be the result of administrative balls ups - your ASIC records still show the Victorian address even though you moved your operations to Queensland - but it's a bit disconcerting and it would be a good idea to get it resolved quickly if that's the case.
4109  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin - The Future and How We Get There on: October 07, 2011, 04:47:12 AM
You take chicken, I take egg then.  I don't see the innovation as present until things are generally overall more secure, until then more and more I keep seeing Bitcoin as something really neat, but not the final word in digital currency.

I am sure that you are right because your porn is a lot better than the Woolongfinancial stuff.

Maybe there'd be greater adoption if there was a PornCoin blockchain.

You spell my name wrong, repent.

Fixed.  See how good our customer support is.  We resolve issues within minutes!

I don't trust the OP, he doesn't have a 1024x768 picture that he uses at the end of every post.

BE VERY CAREFUL.

If I'm not mistaken, I thought I saw a moving car with a South Korean license plate number on the webcam in his sig. Why does this forum turn crazy around the days leading up to, during, and pass a full moon?

Phinnaeus has found Mr Moon!

I've got a 3.5 inch floppy drive and a heap of disks you can use for ensuring the security of your customer records.

I like the way you think, repentance. Would you consider taking over the position of Security Director? (Don't reply here, just PM me to maintain deniability. Better yet, publicly turn it down.  Wink )

For the love of Christ just let me play Bit-Fu when in between trades

Appealing to the Islamic market is another great idea, Bitcoin Porn.

In the established tradition of Bitcoin ventures, I'd be pleased to accept the position of Security Director as it's totally outside my skillset.  I promise to make myself available on IRC for 11 minutes every third Sunday morning to hear people's security concerns and to put vague, meaningless statements on our website about how and when those issues will be resolved.
4114  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin - The Future and How We Get There on: October 07, 2011, 01:10:34 AM
Yep.  Larger numbers of people losing money to shonky Bitcoin ventures is definitely the path to mainstream adoption and acceptance.

If those starting Bitcoin exchanges don't have the capital to invest in security at the outset, then they shouldn't be in business to begin with.  It's absurd to suggest that it's OK for them to operate with lax security until they make enough profit to invest in better infrastructure.

Just make sure that your customer support representatives never answer your users' questions directly but instead cut and paste vague information from your website.  Users really like that model of customer support and it really inspires confidence.
4117  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: bitcoin7.com 'hacked'. Database and wallets 'stolen' on: October 06, 2011, 11:49:37 PM
About 1..2 weeks before this happened, there was an incident where I sent euros to b7, but b7 claimed they never arrived.
...

Actually it might be kind of nice if a solution existed where a terse log of anomalies associated with businesses which hold other peoples money could be reported.  Perhaps patterns could be spotted if they emerge and users might have some sort of advanced warning.  I'm thinking of a stone simple form based incident report thing which would take only a moment to input info into, and the results could be searched.

Maybe the bitsyn people could pick up on that one.

Perhaps we could have a sticky thread here in which these things odd things concerning exchanges are reported.  I think a lot of people would be far more likely to check out the last few pages of the thread than would search a database.

It can also be difficult to know whether odd stuff is significant or not.  There's something going on with one of the Australian exchanges at the moment which may or may not be important, and I've been reluctant to post about it because the public records don't give information about "why" and the reasons behind what's going on could be fairly minor (or even if they aren't, the exchange could say they are and there's no real way to verify that information).
4118  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Trade-Btc.com no fee exchange! on: October 05, 2011, 05:20:00 AM
The four number extension doesn't need to be used for mail in and out of the building. It get's sent directly to the thirteenth floor, and from there it's sorted. I had to google that four number extension, I don't think many people in the office know it, if any.
Dude, you are just digging yourself deeper and deeper into your hole.

This is why people like MtGox (and many others) ask for the copy of the utility bill. It allows quick verification of the full ZIP code (5+4+2+1) and find if it is consistent with the bar code and the postal databases.

If this whole Trade-Btc.com wasn't a fiction it would have received at least one piece of mail and its owner would be able to simply type its full postal code with delivery point and checksum.

Presumably it would only take a phone call or email to the law firm concerned to establish whether they're renting out an office to the OP.

Are there any VPN out there that accepts bitcoin payments?

AirVPN according to this article.

4120  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Issues with Mt.Gox Response times on: October 05, 2011, 02:57:45 AM
I've been waiting a week and a half. I sent my supporting documents 7 times, and kept on getting emails back that "they hadn't received them".

Is it possible that MtGox is insolvent, and is perpetuating the AML scheme to lock bitcoins up as a last ditch effort to keep its doors open?

Them repeating their formal statement about the general issue doesn't really constitute "customer support" and isn't going to fix the problem.  At this point they need to be trying to work out why they're not receiving your documents and walking you through the process of submitting them.

Are you faxing them the documents?  International faxing can have weird dialling rules sometimes which the recipient mightn't know about.
