Thank you mocacinno !

If in the future I have to restore my Electrum wallet from the seed, no password will be required (shall I have to choose another pw) ?

no, the seed is sufficient, when restoring from seed you can pick any password you'd like (either the same one, or a completely new one).
The only thing that seems to get lost is the labels you attached to your transactions and/or addresses. If you want to keep those, you'll have to export them periodically. Everything else is covered by the seed Smiley
4103  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum and Gpg4win on: March 21, 2017, 07:13:03 AM
Hello,

I have noted that in my (Windows 7) list of programs, there is a Gpg4win (2.3.2). I know it is a cryptography software.
Actually when I first installed Electrum, I also intalled Kleopatra, which I thought was needed - but I'm actually not using it (...as far as I know !).

Is Gpgp4win part of Kleopatra or Electrum - or is it required for either of these sotware to work properly ?
I think that I don't need Kleopatra. So if Gpg4win is only related to Kleopatra, can I safely uninstall Gpg4win ?

Thank you for your assistance.

gpg4win is not needed by electrum, there's a reasonable chance it was installed by kleopatra. As long as you wrote down your electrum recovery seed there is no harm that can be done by deinstalling anything... You can even format your harddisk and re-install your os as long as you have that phrase notted down on a piece of paper Wink
4104  Economy / Gambling / Re: BussyBuddyAds - Pixels Lottery - Prize 297 BTC on: March 21, 2017, 07:09:02 AM
Mr Mocacinno this our last suggestion for you,

Taking in consideration your comments and the way how they were done we are suggesting you to talk when your reputation is clean in front of us, and for this reason we will not consider you a person with bad intentions but anyone can pull out the conclusion!!!

For your soul visit https://scamadviser.com and check out our BussyBuddy.com website reputation VS your mocacinno.com website reputation and try to conclude who is Scammer Undercover ...

Always who is practicing illegal stuff is screaming about others are practicing what is thinking...

Mr Mocacinno this is the difference between our level of education and your ... we can proof what we are saying and you cannot proof your lies are true ... Work at your Reputation before to judge us!

Just to be perfectly clear from the beginning: i have not re-read this whole thread, nor the PM's you fired at me... I have invested way to much time into this thread already, and i hope you're going to stop calling me out once and for all, cause i'm really getting annoyed by this.

I took this thread off my watchlist, but it keeps re-appearing in my "new replies"-section. So once again i was tempted to take a look. It looks like you're dragging me in to ~50% of the posts you've made since i last posted in your thread.
And since you keep calling me out, i don't think i have any other choice other than to waste another 20 minutes replying here...

You keep slapping around scamadviser like it's a magic wand, while in fact, when i do check your site this is what i'm seeing:
https://scamadviser.com => bussybuddy.com => "This Very New Site Has an Unknown Reputation"
https://scamadviser.com => mocacinno.com => "This Very New Site Has an Unknown Reputation"

Sure, i hide my whois info, but then again, i'm not asking my visitors to invest millions in my site like you do, i'm not running a business. I just offer free advise, so i think i'm entitled to my anonimity... On the other hand, i see no proof that any of our sites is legit.

Now, please point me to my lies, and show me your proof. As far as i can remember, i have never called you a scammer, i have never asked you to raise your ticket price,...
You, on the other hand, have called me a pervert, uneducated, a lyer, a copy/paster,... you keep asking me to post the PM's between us (apparently you can't do this???)..  Are you sure, or am i going to get another PM afterwards claiming that i'm costing you your business? To be honest, i'm not going to reply to any more of your PM's, if you have something new to say to me, please do so in public and ask a thirth party to PM me the link to this thread, so i can read up.
The only thing i asked you is to be realistic, be honest (about the price of your raffle), use an escrow and to proof in some way that that ponzi you were promoting on your page wasn't yours (by showing transaction id's where the ponzi owner payed you 4.4BTC/month).
As far as i can tell, at this point
  • you lowered your expectations (it looks like the price is now 8 BTC, still to high in my opinion, but it's going the right way)
  • you made it clear what the price is exactly (not 297BTC but a spot on your site or 8 BTC)
  • you are not using escrow
  • you have not shown any proof about that ponzi not being yours

All in all, i don't like you (how can someone like a person that called him a pervert or uneducated), but i think you're slowly moving in the right way. I personally think you're not there yet, but i see improvement in your business practices (but sadly not in your manners).
I realise that you'll try to find a comeback for everything i say, and there is no way you're ever going to take my advice, but at least continue to take advice from other long time members you haven't started fighting with, and maybe your business will turn out successfull afterall.
4105  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: CA Root certificate not trusted on: March 20, 2017, 07:33:28 AM
yes electrum servers use self-signed certs. these are the servers that give electrum blockchain data not the website where you download electrum from.

btw you did download electrum from electrum.org right? if you did that then it's ok. i ask because there are malware copies floating around so you have to make sure you download it from the official site.

This is great advice, i only wanted to add that a second option is to check the signature.
All releases of electrum should be signed by ThomasV
https://pgp.mit.edu/pks/lookup?op=vindex&search=0x2BD5824B7F9470E6

If the signature checks out, it doesn't really matter where you downloaded the release Wink (altough it might be a good idear to download from electrum.org, so you're sure you have the lastest stable release)

Edit
Howto (linux) for the 2.8.1-portable binary for windows:
Code:
wget https://download.electrum.org/2.8.1/electrum-2.8.1-portable.exe
wget https://download.electrum.org/2.8.1/electrum-2.8.1-portable.exe.asc
gpg --keyserver pgp.mit.edu --recv-keys 0x2BD5824B7F9470E6
gpg --verify electrum-2.8.1-portable.exe.asc

The output contained this line:
Good signature from "Thomas Voegtlin (https://electrum.org) <thomasv@electrum.org>"

So, it doesn't matter where i downloaded it, it was signed by ThomasV, thus it was real Smiley

4107  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Importing Private Keys on: March 16, 2017, 12:26:34 PM
Hi,

I have created a new Electrum wallet by importing private keys from another client.
A few of the addresses are highlighted with a bright red colour in the background.
Is there anything I should know before using these addresses?

Normally, a red color means that the addresses were created beyond the gap limit... In your case, there is no gap limit because you imported private keys (so you don't have a deterministic wallet).
I guess you could call it a "bug", altough i doubt it will do any harm, it's a feature for HD wallets that still gets triggered on a non-HD wallet.

I suppose the red background color will disappear once a couple of those adresses got inputs, and electrum deems the red colored addresses to be within the predefined gap limit.

But, anyways, bug or no bug, since you imported the private keys, there isn't much that could go wrong (or am i missing something here). Worst case scenario, you could always download core and import the same private keys there (altough i doubt it would ever come to that).

BTW: you could try to edit the gap limit to a number higher than the total amount of imported addresses, if you do this, the red background *SHOULD* dissapear.

EDIT => to increase the gap limit in 2.8.0
  • open electrum
  • go to the console
  • wallet.storage.put('gap_limit',1000)
  • close electrum
  • restart electrum
4108  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum receiving fee ??! on: March 15, 2017, 02:37:13 PM
they sent you 0.07758328 BTC and that is what you received.

Generally, this what happened to you. It is not electrum's fault and you have to blame the guy who sent you the bitcoins. He only sent you $78 worth of it. Electrum doesn't take receiving fees, only when sending transactions where you need to pay a fee for the miners to include your transactions to the block.

Everybody keeps missing this, please read my previous post...
0.07758328 =~ $97 at current preev rate

The OP was promised $100, but a $3 fluctuation can be caused by a different exchange rate, a fee,... What worries me more is the address that received the ~$97 input... It looks like a multisig address, which is pretty difficult for a new member to generate/manage.
4109  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum receiving fee ??! on: March 15, 2017, 02:08:11 PM
thanks for the responses. the transaction ID is d64fa5709a30afccd25fa54491a377492101e582a870a29b182ed290e81976dc

At current rate, 3E23nxpfMgSZfmFh2PRxhgYH1RU6WfWazP received ~$97 as an output from this transaction, that's pretty close to the $100 you were expecting, altough i would find it strange that electrum would generate such a receiving address, unless you generated a multisig wallet???
The site you used probably used a different rate (a little bit lower), or they charged a fee, or you bought the BTC when the price was a tad bit higher...

HCP sad:
"I probably shouldn't respond to such an uninformed post but...
1. Did you just rebroadcast this transaction?
Received Time   2017-03-13 02:29:12
That looks like it was received within the last 12 hours to me... not exactly 2 weeks ago...
B. Regardless of when you sent the transaction, your fee is ridiculously low"

You are too high opinion of yourself, do not consider others more stupid than yourself.
I repeat once more that I paid 2 weeks ago and about the fee - it was installed by Electrum, not by me.

Your tx still exists on some nodes:
http://www.mocacinno.com/getraw.php?txid=8360bdb82845df96d92f38d4d4a135ca02c7fee923efb3ca10503167437818ed

What probably happened: your transaction was broadcasted, accepted by blockchain.info's node, but later removed because the chance of getting confirmed with a low fee was near to 0.
I do agree that for a new user, bitcoin fees are confusing, and some wallets could offer a bit more assistance to new users so they add appropriate fees.
That being said: your money is not gone, as long as the transaction isn't confirmed, it's technically still yours. As soon as most of the other nodes drop your transaction, it will re-appear in your electrum balance. Either that, or the transaction will get confirmed...
4112  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Newbie trying Mining on: March 14, 2017, 05:45:09 PM
Yes you need hardware, and if you want max possible ROI DO NOT point your miner to Antpool or any of the other pools that don't give up the txn fees.  That's a ripoff.

What would your recommendation as a newbie? of course I can't buy high end hardwares right away. Where should I start? .should i get the USB type hardware?. and join in a pool mining website?

No, usb miners are ok to teach you the basics of mining, not to make a profit. You'll pay more for your power than you'll earn. Even if you have free power, it 'll take ages to break even on the hardware cost.
Please read my previous post.
4113  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Newbie trying Mining on: March 14, 2017, 02:41:00 PM
Yes you really need to buy a miner to mine btc.  You'll use your MacBook to set it up, though! Latest generation machines are the R4 and S9 from bitmain, Avalon 741 from Canaan.

Thank you for your advice, VRobb. To set it up whats the best website to mine?.

One step back...
In order for you to mine profitably, you need:
  • A latest gen ASIC (see VRobb's post)
  • Really, Really, Really cheap electricity (i mean, less than 7-8 cents/kwu). If you pay more/Kwu, not even a brand new ASIC will earn you some money
  • A mining room, A/C, soundproof, no dust, good wiring, shelves,...
  • Technical knowledge to set everything up and keep it running 24/7

Don't forget: sometimes you need to buy a seperate PSU, seperate controllers,... Also, custom duties and shipping/handling can be a pain, and especially in the case of bitmain, their support isn't that great, their gear has 3 months of factory warranty and is know to break easily.

Before you even THINK about investing in gear, or chosing a pool, do the math to find out if you CAN THEORETICALLY mine with profit... If there isn't a theoretical chance to make money, forget about mining altogether...

No worries, it's a friendly community, altough it might be wise to find out if you will add bitcoin as a payment option, since you're promoting your employer's site on a bitcoin-centered forum Wink

BTW: i see you added a gearbest email addy to your profile, i'll do a test email, and verify if you can receive mail on this address Smiley

EDIT: i sent an email to the address on her bitcointalk profile (...@gearbest.com) and got a reply, so i can vouch that this person works for gearbest Smiley
4115  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum sucks - uninstalled on: March 14, 2017, 02:27:19 PM
great thanks

so in future what should i do?? i already raised the transaction btc/kb fee

Well... There are a couple of things you can do:
- allways opt-in RBF
- check bitcoinfees.21.co to have an indication of how much your fee/byte of data should be... This way you can evaluate if the fee proposed by your wallet is sufficient. If you used [tools => preferences => fees => use dynamic fees + edit fees manually + propose replace by fee: always], you can edit the fee if it is on the low side.
- i added a new tool to my website: http://www.mocacinno.com/index.php#feeestimate . IF you use electrum, you can go to wallet => coins to add a coins tab. This tab lists the unspent outputs to addresses controlled by your wallet that can be used as an input. If you manually select your inputs, and you know that you usually have 2 outputs (one to the receiver, one to your change address), you can use my tool to estimate the fee you should add (http://www.mocacinno.com/index.php#feeestimate option 2 => inputs = the amount of inputs you selected, outputs = 2).

BTW, i'm using electrum 2.8.0, if you use an older version, the menus will have a different structure, RBF was introduced a couple versions ago, so if your electrum version is to old, you might not find this option.

Hi Anny,

Can i conclude that gearbest is going to accept bitcoin as a payment option in the future?
Also, as an official representative of such a big company, it might be wise to correct your spelling mistakes and/or add some proof that you're actually working for gearbest (like adding a gearbest email address where we can contact you to verify you actually work for them)
4117  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum sucks - uninstalled on: March 14, 2017, 12:47:21 PM
i assume i cant cancel an unconfirmed transaction

Not really, no...
However, if you make sure nobody rebroadcasts it, most nodes will drop it from their mempool in 72 hours... Once this happens (enough nodes dropped your tx), it'll be like the transaction never happened (depending on your wallet you might need a couple of steps to "repair" the wallet, so it depends on which wallet you'll use to manage your addresses in the future... If you stick with electrum, no extra steps are needed iirc).

So basically, if you wait, in the end, only 2 possible things can happen:
1) your tx ends up in a block (your transaction gets confirmed)
2) your tx is forgotten by (most of the) the network, and you can re-use the inputs from the forgotten transaction in a new transaction.

There are several other things you can do to speed things up, but this has to be evaluated on a case by case basis.
You can also use the (in)sufficient fee checker on my website: http://www.mocacinno.com to help you out Wink
4118  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum sucks - uninstalled on: March 14, 2017, 12:38:45 PM
what can i do wrong by clicking on send??

but i have now transactions pending since 18 hours still unconfirmed plus i even set a higher fee

Electrum did what it had to do: create a transaction using unspent outputs to addresses managed by him and broadcasted the transaction. This is where electrum's responsability stops. I understand that your transaction is currently unconfirmed.
This doesn't have a lot to do with electrum, but everything to do with the fact that miner fees that are necessary to have a decent chance of getting into the next couple of blocks are growing larger every day, if i had to take an educated guess, it would be that the transaction didn't have enough fees/byte.

Could you post the tx id, that way we could potentially offer some advice on how to solve the issue, and how to avoid it next time you create a transaction.

4120  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: What we can do to confirm transactions faster? on: March 14, 2017, 10:05:54 AM
I can also add that BlockCypher has created technology that enables merchants to confirm transactions in mere seconds with 99.9% confidence.
It is like Amazon Web Services for Bitcoin. Their platform exposes web services to help developers build, monitor and secure Bitcoin applications.

This sounds really, really, really strange to me... To get a 99,9% chance of getting your transaction into the next block (= confirmation), you'll need 99,9% of the miners to add this tx to the block they're currently solving.
This means that this company should be cooperating with 99,9% of the miners...

Even then, if they promise to confirm a transaction in mere seconds, they're lying. The diff adjustment makes sure that the average time between blocks is ~10minutes. This means that on average, if a transaction is in 99,9% of the blocks currently worked on by miners, it'll have an average waiting time of ~5min.

If you have a really, really high fee, your broadcasted tx will be added to most of the miner's blocks, altough i do not believe you'll ever reach 99,9%, since some miners (or pools) seem to be mining empty blocks from time to time... But if you add a ridiculous high fee, you wouldn't need an external company anyways.
