So I am not the only one. I think I even tried two different sources now also tried flashnul (unforrtunately with flashnul no matter how much I tried I couldn't solve the access denied issues). I'll give one last try with the last source and I'll try burning it via a different PC (in case there is a problem with my mobo's usb controller or something).

Sweet... Where do I get them PCI cables? Or what the hell are they called?

PCIe extenders/ribbons/risers

ebay (either cheap and wait 2-3 weeks, or wait a few days and pay much more) or 9mart.com
don't overpay at cablesaurus

4123  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Frankenstein's Miner - how much lightning do I need? on: March 13, 2012, 10:06:10 PM
First, it probably isnt worth paying additional 50 euro per slot + riser. If you decide to go that route you have to use powered extenders (~$22 at cablesaurus, around half of that done by some forum member I think, $3-4 if bought in bulk from China). But even then I wouldn't bother, especially if those mobos don't have an 8-pin EPS12V connector. They aren't designed to supply so much power through all pcie slots and you risk frying you motherboard, maybe even the GPU(s) can get hurt. While using a powered riser definitely decreases the risk it makes it even more unprofitable. I wouldn't bother unless I could buy that adapter and a powered extender for $20-30 in total.

Havent fololowed the thread for some time can anyone tell me if there is any specific date when the bitcoin magazine appears?
4125  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: at what point is a person considered a "respectable" miner? on: March 13, 2012, 09:30:42 PM
there are people with over 500 Ghash (pool owners you mean?) and I can only conclude that these are full industrial operations, either financed independently by already-rich Bitcoin enthusiasts, or blagged as a 'business plan' and financed by some hapless bank.

I'd say the *corporation* becomes a 'respectable' miner when they start making enough to invest in custom hardware, and I mean re-investment in R&D, not just buying as many FPGAs as they're allowed.

???

FWIW, my electrician said he can get me a functioning (read used) 36Kw UPS for $4k. That would run my farm for at least a couple of hours before running out of juice.

Question is how often do you encounter power outages to make it worth buying this UPS. Also, how much would you make during those few hours.
Also, if you decide to buy it, make sure to check the state of the batteries.

Dude, I remember using a fucking tape for the first time. Rocking it old school.

I remember having to replace ENIAC's vacuum tubes. :3

Have you got similar fans to offer but slightly more silent? Something under ~ <35 decibels

If you have a fan controller (the 3 pins on your mobo, for example) you can run the fans at about 70% they are a LOT quieter. Move less air, but easier on the ears.

That's not the point Tongue

Ok, have you got something around 100CF and a lot quieter and cheaper?

We would like to offer a new service to fellow bitcoiners, we are sure some of you folks are religious like us so we would like to offer something of mutual profit.  Smiley

We will pray to any God(s) you request for an undefined number of Bitcoins. The more you send the stronger will be our prayers but remember every Bitcent is good for you.

Send a PM where should we direct our prayers and we will send you a unique BTC address. If there is something specific you believe your God should hear about let us know about it. Otherwise, we will just pray for your soul (and your Bitcoin wallets!)

Currently we support 13 religions and there are 37 of us monks here. Any questions - just ask, that is what we are here for!

Is it tue they are thinking about raising the price.

They mentioned it, it is normal they will want to set the price at a level of equilibrium.
4134  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: BAMT version 0.5 - Easy USB based mining Linux with farm wide management tools on: March 11, 2012, 09:39:36 AM
Nothing supports 6xxx series memory downclocking. You'll have to flash the BIOS in order to do that.

Apart from ATi Tray Tools also Trixx worked for me - but only to 750MHz, and barelyclocked.
As for undervolting only barelyclocked worked flawlessly.
4135  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: BAMT version 0.5 - Easy USB based mining Linux with farm wide management tools on: March 10, 2012, 08:43:30 PM
something is seriously wrong with your image or your usb key.

suggest to download again.

I think my keys are fine, tried 3, of two different brands, and tried burning the img several times. Also, the was no problem with 0.4.

I'll download again from a different source and report once I try.
4136  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: BAMT version 0.5 - Easy USB based mining Linux with farm wide management tools on: March 10, 2012, 08:30:08 PM
I can't boot bamt 0.5  Sad

Bamt 0.4 works fine on two sticks, with bamt 0.5 I get this:

Code:
SYSLINUX 4.02 debia-20101014CHS Copyright (C) 1994-2010 H. Peter Anvin et al
ERROR: No configuration file found
No DEFAULT or UI configuration directive found!
boot:

Googled a bit but none of the solutions worked for me (placing syslinux files somewhere else, burning the image onto the usb stick again and again, trying another usb stick, etc.)
I used Win32 Disk Imager, same one I used with bamt 0.4.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong?

I think he mentioned something about taking a job, no idea to what extent this is true.
Anyone living around him could pay him visit maybe?
4138  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: What was your cheapest miner to build? on: March 10, 2012, 03:22:30 PM
5830s are incredibly inefficient which is quite ironic because over the summer the rumor was they were one of the most efficient cards available - which turned out not to be true. I dont think they are even profitable anymore for a lot of people
this is the reason you see so many of them for sale all the time

They are have a good speed:price ratio but bad when it comes to speed:power, in summer when it took 2 weeks to make a return on a card nobody cared about power costs.

279 volts?  What country uses 279 volt mains?
Odd, might be a single leg of 480 phase-to-ground (277 +2 variance), but I don't know of any PSUs rated that high.

I think he's using as separate transformer..but let's wait for his resposnse Wink
