I know this would prob be more suited for the hardware section.

But does any one have any idea what the heck could of caused one of the ribbon cables going to one of the hash boards on one of my 9s to be all melted and burned?      and does anyone know where to get replacements asap???
And yet you still posted here, so move this question there...  Roll Eyes
Got a good idea wassup with it but keeping this on-topic.
4122  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Is exhaust ventilation needed to cool rigs? Even if there is Air-con? on: June 05, 2017, 01:24:54 PM
This individual says "Without exhaust ventilation in the room, an aircon will be useless in trying to cool our rigs"
Not exactly an expert on cooling, airflow, or ventilation but basic logic tells me that using an air conditioner will make the room cooler, which in turn makes the air being sucked by your GPUs / fans cooler.

I would not say that an aircon is at all useless in cooling mining rigs. The above statement might have been an exaggeration.
Not exactly an exaggeration, pretty sure their main point was that it is uneconomical to use A/C. Using window or home air conditioners will almost double the cost of electricity used. Depending on rates in your area that can easily kill profits in a heartbeat. It is helluvalot cheaper just to draw relatively cooler outside air into the room and exhaust the hot air out.

Just sayin' Wink

A) Have a sizeable amount of expendable/surplus money you and any significant other are willing to risk.
B) Look at it like going to a Casino: If the stars and everything else is right you may come out ahead. Or not. If you cannot afford to lose the investment DON'T DO IT!
C) Be aware that said money *might* not generate a profit.
D) If happy with risking said monies, look at where the miners are to be located. Local to you? Hosted?
E) If local to you, find a building with very good ventilation, stable internet, and at least 100-200KW of power to start with.
F) Crunch the numbers: Cost of electricity, building rent/hosting fees, cost of miners.
G) RUN IT AS A LICENSED BUSINESS! Yes, you will pay taxes however you in turn get to write-off expenses such as rent, cost of power, cost of the miners themselves (IRS views them the same as lowly office PC's).
H) If you think the risk is worth it, take a deep breath and jump in!

Start with the altcoin sections of the Forum.
This is BTC only and that means ASIC-based rigs.
4126  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: June 03, 2017, 04:18:42 PM
Roll Eyes This is not the shiney-new-toy of the month flighty Consumer electronics (phones, tablets, etc) world... The next drop in node size for them is unlikely to be seen until *maybe* the start of next year if not the middle of it and that assumes there is an actual need for it and is economically viable at that time.

FORGET using any consumer-style transformer like you linked to. They are crap and not intended to be used anywhere near their 'rated' load 24x7x365. Been there, done that, have two crispy-fried transformers that lasted about a month. If you use a transformer it must be an industrial/commercial rated one. They will handle full load for decades but of course are about 2x the price of the others.

Either use the EVGA you picked or Btmain's APW5 which will do fine using 120v and 1 miner on it.
4127  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: sgminer v5.6.1 not mining on AMD GPU on: June 02, 2017, 06:02:20 PM
Start by asking in the right area (Altcoin mining) https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=160.0
4128  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 12 GPU rig... but how??? on: June 02, 2017, 05:59:55 PM
In this discussion: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1541084.msg19319534#msg19319534
There is an example and a tiny bit of talk about a rig that controls 12 GPUs
The idea is that the builder uses PCIe Switches for 9 of the cards and the other three are on board:
Using common MSI Z270-A Pro + Celeron G3900 + 4GB RAM +3 x PCI-E Switches (9 GPU's connected to switch and 3 GPU direct to motherboard). Power Subsystem - two HP common slot PSU 1200W + 160W Pico PSU (for motherboard and switches)
Sorry for bad photo and my English)
<pic snipped>

Does anyone have experience making the CPU / bios / whatever to detect 12... or maybe 18 GPU's?
TIA!
Someone might know how-to but NOT here.  Roll Eyes This is Bitcoin-only and that means ASIC rigs only.
Now if you post in the ALTCOIN area https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=160.0 you might get answers.
4129  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Getting Z170E to recognise 4 1080 ti's on: June 02, 2017, 03:38:37 PM
Howdy all,
Hope this is the right place to ask because i need expert help with getting my ASUS LGA 1151 STRIX Z270E GAMING Intel Z270 ATX Motherboard to recognise 4 1080 ti's.
<snip>
No, is not the right place. This area is for Bitcoin hardware only and BTC hardware has been exclusively the realm of ASIC's for several years now.
Unacceptable should have pointed that out and directed you to https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=160.0 which is the Altcoin mining area...
4130  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain Antminer S9 Review on: June 02, 2017, 12:48:36 PM
Hello fellow miners, one quick question, theoretically is there a chance to measure the heat generated from S9? I don't know how it works and how it is calculated so any help would be great
Google "convert watts to BTU" ....
4131  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [SCAM] Foxminers? on: June 02, 2017, 12:42:11 PM
***  Foxminers LLC is a SCAM! If someone buys their miners without any well-known and trusted Forum Users 1st getting hold of one for doing a review and posting it here then well, you have been warned ***
I'd like to thank this forum and the many posters who contributed to this topic.
I was actually thinking of wrangling the money for this, cause at 375 TH/s with all the calculations I've made it looked like some easy ROI.
So the good news is, I won't get scammed.
The bad news, hehe I won't profit either.
Real shame...
Glad that I didn't ignore my gut instinct and decided to research this supplier as best as I could.
Well then score 1 confirmed scam order killed for us Smiley
Und sounds like it was a big fish they lost ta' boot Cheesy
Given ^^ then look at this way -- you DID profit by ~$22k by not dumping that money into the very gross and smelly toilet called Foxminers LLC Wink
4132  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: June 01, 2017, 12:55:15 PM
Ok so the two boards are dead.

Anyone know if there is any way how to just buy hashing board replacements? Should I try contacting Bitmain about it?
If in North America, Bitmain Warranty has them https://bitmainwarranty.com
They also do PAID repair of the boards. I highly recommend them.
4133  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain Launches the New Antminer T9 Bitcoin Miner on: June 01, 2017, 01:09:44 AM
To answer your question, ONLY the R4 is on par with an s3 regarding noise.
ALL other modern miners such as the Avalons, Ebang, and Hotmine are LOUD. And NO they cannot be changed to make quiet.

As part of my job I follow all complaints/critiques/opinions about miners and take it into account when purchasing. The T9 complaints I have seen all fall under the category of user error and not hardware error. If anyone has an actual issue with T9s please let us hear about it.

have had a *new* T9 that has been mining for only 8 days and two days ago one of the hash-boards shows no red light.

Still not working? Reboot fixed it? Fixed itself? Blew up killing the family cat? <insert other details here>
What a useless statement without details...

Plus of course there IS a T9-specific thread. Just usually far down because little to report in it. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1755286.msg19168097#new

Blew up scaring my Rottweiler, LOL -j/k-

well, still mining with it, still only 2/3 hash power, many reboots to no effect, not really set up to determine its power usage, am thinking of buying an S9 hashboard from the US sight mentioned
above (but over 500 dollars ?? Huh ?? )
https://bitmainwarranty.com/product-category/products/page/2/
Not sure if a s9 board will work in the T9, for 1 they are a different length. Be sure to ask them if it can be used.
I do see they also now carry spare T9 boards however. That what you meant? Wink

Bitmain Warranty of course does PAID repairs of hash boards and normally all they need is the board -- not the entire miner like the factory does. If you send the board in, ask about mining comp (equal to the boards hash rate) while they have the board.

4137  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer R4: full working, but no web-access: Error connection refused! on: May 31, 2017, 01:03:29 PM
Pretty sure the original freq was ballpark of 625MHz (not 725) with 1 board no doubt being lower than the other. As for speed, I just kept setting the freq higher until the HW error rate started being over 0.002%, for 1 one of my R4's that is 606MHz and another R4 is set to 612.5MHz.
