4141  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is it me or is Darkcoin the only coin with real potentional? 100% anonymous wow. on: May 11, 2014, 03:44:54 PM
What do you think most Bitcoin investors, big real buyers were using the coin for in the first place?
It was taught to be anonymous. Most of the fiat that went into Bitcoin was black money.
Those people are scared shitless. Now comes a new coin, with a new proof of concept, a well done product which just fits that crowd.

What we see now is shifting already. You ain't see nothing yet. When shifting seriously starts it'll be a short staggering period.
When shifting of big BTC and LTC fortunes is done and DRK is convertible for fiat or whatever, the fiat price for BTC will collapse.
The average Joe BTC holder will be very astonished.

I see a justified price of 3-4 BTC for one DRK at the current level of supply. The extreme leverage might even bubble it up much higher for some time.
Its just a state of the art financial instrument, in contrast to BTC or LTC.
The only contender is Ripple, which I see on the bright side of things as well.
4142  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: SCAM Darkcoin instamine 2 millions DRKs (50% of darkcoin in circulation) on: May 10, 2014, 08:03:47 PM
Somebody must have cashed out a lot with some of that 2 million

Yeah the price is really tanking right now... Oh wait a minute, its the exact opposite that is true.

Yeah, it looks like everybody is just dumping the coin big time, now that the truth came out.

No problem. Thanks for the giveaway.
I think you got a good concept.
I think its a good idea to have a proprietary coin for this board.

I asked over at the sph-sgminer thread, whether they want to add it.

Cheers

There is a new coin out for this forum, BITCOINTALK COIN [BCT] - SHA3-KECCAK
A lot of it is distributed thru giveaways, you could still apply and get quite some coins for free.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=569997.0

Could you add the algo chain to sph-sgminer?

Update on river rock

Our Colorado Ambassador Russel thomas is going to be meeting john the ceo on tuesday at the dispensary to discuss where the ATM will go and how we will secure it - we will also be placing our big pop potcoin banners next to the atm.

We hope to have the first ATM at the main river rock location by the end of next week, we will should no tho by Wednesday.

We are very excited about this and we will be doing A formal press release in conjunction with river rock medical and combine forces to do a good social media push together.

We have been also getting lots of people filling out of merchant on the website and we look forward to getting them accepting potcoins and getting them listed on smokepotcoins and potcoinme

Don't you think its quite important to stabilize the exchange rate if you want to exchange fiat for POT at your ATMs?
And provide some liquidity in a certain price range?

I think the price has been incredibly stable of late. Only minor fluctuations Between 800 and 1000 satoshi. Maybe you just don't think its high enough?

There is only marginal volume and interest in the coin.
With a couple of 100 BTC you could manipulate the exchange rate to your liking in minutes.
This is a bad foundation for a currency in general.

Without any intervention I only see it declining further, due to the crazy amount of coins already available, and the amount of coins mined daily.
As I mentioned before, I think sticking to Scrypt was a major mistake... but there seems to be a private internal interest in doing so, what to say.

This coin is directed at a pretty niche market. I think you can expect volume to be lower simply because fewer people are using the coin.

As for intervention...I'm not of the belief we should intervene in a free market. The price is what it is. Changing the algorithm was not going to do much, but halving the coin certainly will. You can expect a spike in volume and price right before the halving.

Ah really? The DOGE experience tells us a different story. Halving supply meant halving the exchange rate.
Thats your plan? Great outlook! I'll dump this coin on the next leg up.

You got a good idea and seem to work on it, but as for real world applications you're stoner delusional.
If you are not intervening, somebody else will, to their liking, and do with your coin however they feel suit.
And I bet you will intervene, alone to compensate for the ATMs and to the people running them.
Can't wait for the next big pump to occur.

And sure its too late now to change the algo. If you'd had done it early, you'd have much better control of the supply now.

Don't get me wrong I don't have high hopes for Penguincoin at this particular moment, but I would rather hold and have say, a 5% chance of making a large profit in the future, instead of like selling millions of them now for enough btc to buy a gumball just so I can console myself that "at least I limited my losses."

The point of capitulation has been reached, nobody wants to mine or sell it anymore.
Its in a zombie state.
But somebody has been buying all this coin, all the time.
I keep it for the name alone, like a couple of others.

This article (http://www.coindesk.com/bitcoin-thriving-argentinas-black-market-economy/) got me thinking about about the black market and it's global market value.

It turns out it's circa 1.6 Trillion Dollars (http://www.havocscope.com/products/ranking/).

The current currency of the black market is US Dollars but they are turning to Bitcoin and inevitably will turn to anonymous coins in the future, and as Darkcoin is the leader in this field I predict they will start using it once it has been proven to be reliable in the coming months/years.

The potential for this coin is huge....

1.6 Trillion / 22 Million = ~$73900 per coin --- Wow

Maybe this is why we are seeing massive amounts of DRK being purchased at the current low price.

The 1.6 Trillion is the yearly turnover in USD? You can`t deduct a price for DRK from that. In theory one DRK at one USD would be enough with (unrealistically high) velocity, if it changed hands 1.6 trillion times. But still, the potential for DRK is huge, I just do not know how to quantify it.

First we need to take on LTC and bypass it.
Shouldn't be too much of a hassle.
And then run up to the cap of BTC, will take a couple of weeks longer, probably.
And have a fiat exchange ready, around the way.

Would give a quote of ~ US$ 250 with the current BTC price.
With the impact of such a shift and some favorable propaganda it might even shoot higher than BTC ever was.
4154  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | ASIC Resistant on: May 05, 2014, 07:29:06 AM
BTW, nice price action going. A single 100 BTC buy wall on Cryptsy. Those are rarely 'real' so manipulation is abound. Grin

110 BTC already. What do you mean by 'Those are rarely real'?

You usually place an order like this when you want to sell a lot of coins (which you acquired earlier at a significantly lower price in relatively small chunks over a relatively long time) and buy only as little as possible (when you accidentally get hit -> it's more like a gamble than an investment).

When you really want to buy 100 BTC worth of coins then you usually set up a bot which buys a lot of small chunks when the price is in your comfort zone (or you might do it manually if you have the time and patiance and you don't trust in bots).

This. And add volume to the game. Volume attracts gamblers, even more if there is a big spread.
So what you can do with crypto so very easy is to mock volume. Just push around your coins on multiple exchanges.
Buy carefull, then pump aggresive, then dump, push the BTC over to another exchange, rinse and repeat.
If you're doing it right you end up with more coins in every round.
Even more, if you are able to short sell your positions.

Password protecting the goddamn wallet on startup
would alleviate the sender-record problem at least.

I never understood why this is not standard.
I've been going on about this since page 600 and you're the only person who's noticed.  Cheesy

I'm not even sure what this means to be honest.  Are you saying you shouldn't need to manually encrypt wallet and add password, it should prompt for a new password as soon as the wallet launches for the first time?

Not the first time, because you haven't set a password yet, but if you've encrypted your wallet, it should ask you for a password subsequently, before opening up and allowing everyone and anyone to see full records of your transactions. Or copying your .dat and viewing everything you've done later.

You expect to have to enter a password to see your banking online, right? And your email, and your exchange accounts, and just about everything else, for good reason. For an "anonymous" coin, it's a baffling omission.

Hmm, yes that is a good point. I agree a password should be required to see history of transactions.  The problem I see is that the more times you input your password the more chances a malicious key-logger has to get your coins. :/ It guess it is a tradeoff.

I wonder if it could be built in to the transaction log tab specifically?  Regardless, I would only support the idea if it were a separate pw from the actual wallet pw for just the reason you mention (key loggers).
Like blockchain.info where you can set 2 passwords. One to see your wallets balancee and addresses and stuff and a second one thats necessary for sending coins, generating new addresses etc

Against keyloggers:
How about an on-screen numeric keypad with random order of the numbers?

There's dozens of watertight solutions to this.

Great, so which one would you suggest being implemented.

For any market maker, be it an exchange or whoever, the ability to curb wild swings of the price is VERY important.

Exchanges != market makers, and I don't care about the convenience of "market makers." Buyers and sellers make the market. If the price swings wildly then so be it. Exchanges should not be trying to control anything.

Items on exchanges don't sell out like on eBay, you can't compare that.

If no one is selling, no one can buy. Same thing. They might not run out, they'll just rise in price. And with enough BTC, you could absolutely buy up every DRK available on every exchange that sold it.

If you want to trade against fiat you need liquidity, or you get eaten by anybody who has it.

If you want to trade anything you need that item or the ability to pay the going rate for it. Not sure what your point is here.

Like a central bank, just like that.

Central banks and their idiot "market makers" are one of the reasons the world economy is down the shitter.

Any exchange that "needs" stockpiles of coins is fundamentally broken. Mt Gox for example.

Yeah dude, so shall it be.
But in the real world things are different than you'd like them to be.
There are sharks out there, and market makers, and real money is lost and made.
And if you can't put up they'll kill you, making money all along.

So does this coin go the way of any other Scrypt shitcoin now?
Or are you gonna do something about the decline?

It looks less promising every day, since 4/20.
A 75% decline from the peak price is not really a milestone for popularity.
If you want to build confidence you should do something about it, or at least announce your willingness to do so.
Please describe to us, how you want to make a steady market for your product.

You could have changed the algo in the first place, but you declined, front out, no discussion.
Why? Is there something to the gossip you are dumping yourself?
This was all foreseeable. Fuck.
