I know these are arbitrary numbers. I'd just buy the S3 and sell the S1 at that point to save myself the hassle involved with the upgrade (if any) and the recycling of the old parts. Of course I would hope everyone else would do the opposite so that more equipment is junked and not contributing to the network hashrate.
And that's totally okay. On the other hand, people like myself will opt to update my farm through upgrade saving the (arbitrary) $100, import fees, and the hassle of trying to sell a large lot of used S1's. Hell, I could probably just sell the original hashing boards for $25 a piece and have saved $150. Every extra dollar you spend is another dollar you need to recoup to have made the investment worthwhile in the first place. Selling can be a hassle, very true. I'll probably put out feelers on craigslist soon. That's been very successful for me. Selling on eBay is totally not worth the effort, and I'd rather throw them in the trash than sell on bitcointalk. Why? Most of the miners I've sold on Bitcointalk for straight BTC using escrow, and was the most painless experience possible. EBay is the worst experience, because you have the threat of the Paypal chargeback, and those disgusting fees!

I am not sure what you mean by a bitcoin generator. Since you posted in mining subforum. I assume you mean a bitcoin miner? The software you use to mine bitcoin with your CPU or GPU?
Mining software does work and there are quite a few of them, but the days when you can mine bitcoins with CPU or GPU is long gone. You can still mine altcoins such as Litecoins with GPU, but just barely. The difficulty has gone up so much that you need dedicated hardware called ASIC to make mining worthwhile.
Hey... we had the start of a nice story about magic beans and Nigerian princes. Why'd you have to go wrecking that by asking serious questions? ![Tongue](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/tongue.gif) Ruined the momentum....FAIL! ![Cool](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/cool.gif)

what are the s1 upgrade specs/price?
Bitmain have never said that it will be possible to upgrade the S1 so not sure why so many people think it will be.It's still unknown what the upgrade path will be for S2's but it's likely to be just replacement blades, and it remains to be seen how good a deal it will be. You won't be able to swap 10 blades with the ones from the S3 as the power consumption will be too high, so it's either going to be different blades with underclocked chips or fewer blades say 4 to match the 1000w PSU. Actually...... Reserved for Q&A
1. Will there be upgrade parts for S1 and S2?
Yes, there will be. But we still need to solve some production/testing problem before we finalize the plan and public it.

The S3.. what is this talk?!
Don't tell me you've been hiding under a rock all this time. ![Tongue](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/tongue.gif) Antminer S3 just blew up Rockminer/Rock Xie/Friedcat's spot. Consider it blown. ![Cheesy](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/cheesy.gif) Please do explain how you can make that ignorant statement without even knowing the price of the S3... Go troll elsewhere if you're not interested in the product being discussed here. We'll see the price soon enough. Don't be so defensive, Rockminer are big boys, they can handle it. No ignorance, not trolling, this will affect RK-BOX sales. If Bitmain price it to high, miners will come here. Low, vice versa.

You'll probably need 9 to 10 Antminer S3's if you want 5 TH/s.
Either that or 10 to 11 of the Rockminer Rocket Boxes. Which ever has a better price point per GH/s.

Sure it is.
If you believe that, I got some magic beans to sell you to grow your own beanstalk that'll create a Brooklyn Bridge to Nigeria.

Are we supposed to get tracking numbers for these shipments, or are we supposed to just wait at the door for the next week? ![Cheesy](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/cheesy.gif) Guess if these things shipped already, impossible to get a refund for this...

The yet to be announced S4 will replace the S2, probably after S3 batches are sold this summer.

I would agree with you, until the news of the Antminer S3 struck like thunder yesterday. If you got free electric, the S3 is the way to go.
|
|
|
Unless you're selling in bulk most people won't be able to sell off the S1 with shipping since that would negate any earnings potential. If you can find a buyer locally you might get some $ for it.
If you can't sell it, wait for the upgrade paths for the S1 and S2 that Bitmain announced, along with their S3 offering.

He has been over on some other boards, but has not popped in here to comment. He should have received them today, so I guess we will see. If he does not have them today, I would give 0 chance of anything being sent out until next week (assuming they are on their way), which means refund central for what seems to be most of the people who post on here.
Refund bros Debit, refund. Depending on the update today or lack there of, tomorrow's when we submit our refund request, and are free from pre-order hell! Hopefully. ![Roll Eyes](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/rolleyes.gif)

I'd be interested in at least 1 S3, depending on the price.

The S2 is still 3.5 BTC. I think anyone thinking this will be $1k is pipe dreaming.
Exactly And people dont forget the Rocket Box requires 4 - 6 pin PCI's, that means you will have to buy at least 750 PSU to get 4x6pin pci's ($100) and a Raspberry PI and an SD card so the Rocket Box really costs alot more than 1btc. The S3 requires same type PSU but control board is built in so no Pi or sd card needed I assume. All of the Corsair 500's and 600's that we have running the S1's will not work for the S3.Why won't the PSU's we have for the S1 not work for the the S3 again?

Thank you for your reply dropt and your apreciate advice : )
I will try to delay payment until the last week as I can. Anyway, if you know how BITMAIN give us the same number of TH/s at the same price this week... I'll buying them! But unfortunately BITMAIN do not accept buying groups. They maintain the same Price for all buyers.
Juan from 112bit.com was able to execute an S2 Group Buy for 150 units at $1650, so uh, not true. ![Roll Eyes](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/rolleyes.gif)
