4161  Economy / Economics / Re: Will President Joe Biden be good for business? on: January 22, 2021, 09:11:23 AM
Our hopes are high up again with expectations from the new government, will campaign promises be fulfilled? Or are we about to get something again that we didn't bargain for?
It somewhat depends on what your expectations for the new government is, but in my heart of hearts, I know Biden would do better than Trump, definitely not all promises will be fulfilled, it's easier to make promises when you're not under pressure, but when you've got the 'job', reality now tells you how difficult it is to accomplish some of the things you said you'll do, the United States can't be any worse than it already is now, so it's up to Joe.
With the inauguration of Joseph Robinette Biden Jr. as the 46th president of the United States, what is to be expected in the economic world?
It's always much easier for a new president, if his predecessor left a booming economy before leaving office; but it is what it is, and we all know the state of the economy atm, as a result of a year plus pandemic, it's definitely not going to be a walk in the beach for Joe to fix the economy, there have been a lot of money printing, and there will still be a few more, the aftermath of all this is Inflation, and it could hit the U.S. few years into his tenure.
4162  Economy / Economics / Re: Will Biden raise the federal minimum wage from 7.25 USD per hour to 15 USD? on: January 22, 2021, 07:36:34 AM
Will the US business suffer from the increased labor costs?
I don't think the employers of labor in the U.S. are going to suffer, the thing in business is about making profits and if the minimum wage is increased, businesses that prolly can't afford to pay all their workers that particular amount will have to make some changes, cutting down on workers is one option, or increasing the cost of the service they render to their customers, one way or another a business must make profit or else it's going to close down. So by and large, the increase is good for the workers, whilst their employers will seek a means to get the most out of this too.
Stupid question:Will the American working class buy more Bitcoin,if they have bigger salaries? Grin
Prolly those who are already Bitcoin Investors, yes, they could prolly increase their stash if they earn more money, which increases their spare cash, and it could go into buying more Bitcoin.
4163  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2020/2021 on: January 22, 2021, 06:23:53 AM
After Man United and Man City who have improved their appearance now Liverpool must fight again to find their best appearance.
City have played one game less than Liverpool, if they do win that game, they'll be 7 points ahead of Klopps team, likewise United that are 6 points ahead of Liverpool, this gap could gradually grow until Liverpool are no longer in the title race, or even in a top four race, cause the teams below them are really breathing down their neck, looking to snatch their position from them.

Tbh, I don't know what's wrong with Liverpool, neither do I think there's even an acceptable excuse for the poor performances they've been having of late, it's either they improve or they relinquish their title.
4164  Other / Meta / Re: 4000+ posts and 1 merit. 2021 version :) on: January 21, 2021, 11:57:41 AM
if you are not receiving X number of merit within 100 posts/ or higher/lower, you will be considered as spammer and thus you are not allowed to post in the forum. I guess it would be a better solution.
Theymos wouldn't do that, the forum has no intention of making merits a prerequisite to posting, and it'll be somewhat synonymous with the previously existed newbie jail, and Theymos has said he doesn't intend doing that again:
Limiting newbie participation is very harmful for a community. Newbie jail will never return: I consider the newbie-jail period to have been extremely damaging to the forum. When barriers to participation are too high, then the best people often just won't go to the trouble of joining, and the people who are willing to jump through the hoops are often people who aren't good for the community: people with nothing better to do, scammers, get-rick-quickers, etc. Having a permanent newbie jail policy would improve things a lot in the short-term, but would end up being a fatal poison to the community.
I know come what may, a good poster ought to earn a merit between one to a hundred posts, but still merits isn't always accurate enough to determine a spammer or not.
4165  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2020/2021 on: January 21, 2021, 11:34:44 AM
Manchester City meanwhile are the form team; winning 6 straight game week matches for the first time this season; it will be a long interesting title race.
Really long indeed, it could even be decided on the last day of the season who knows, and now talking about Manchester City, I think they are the team to beat atm, Pep has really fixed his defensive problems with the signing of Diaz and the resurgence of John Stones, now City go into games and have a high chance of keeping a clean sheet, they have the best defensive record in the league thus far this season; and if that continues, it could be what gives them the edge to win the title.
I think the most logical bet for this match would be under 2.5 goals.
I don't know how 'logical' a bet that's going to be, Liverpool haven't won in a while, so I see them being really hungry and could score 3 goals or more in this game, Burnley themselves could grab one as well.
4166  Other / Meta / Re: how is a merit eliminated if one no longer wants to give it? on: January 21, 2021, 09:56:03 AM
By and large it looks like OP is simply referring to a demerit system, well, about that, here's what Theymos had to say about it:
There is currently no such thing as a "demerit". I'm hoping that the positive merits alone will be fine. I could add demerits pretty easily later on if necessary, though.
Since the merit system was introduced, the topic of demerit has come up quite a few times, with some good discussions on it, here's one started by LoyceV, OP you could read that thead to get an insight into what you are asking and why it hasn't or will prolly not be implemented:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5033455.0

It doesn't look like a demerit system will be introduced sooner or later, but even if it is, OP, I'm not sure you'd be able to demerit a post by yourself, as I think it'll be privileged to either mods, staffs, admin or selected reputable users to do that, just allowing every user to demerit a post will be grossly abused.
4167  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Same scammers, different tricks on: January 21, 2021, 09:00:56 AM
It is always good to check the link using any linkchecker link ScanUrl or Kaspersky Virus total by long pressing it and paste it in their scan bar. Most of the time this will gives you warning about dangerous URL which contains malicious code.
Random links sent by an obvious scammer doesn't really need to be checked, I just delete them immediately, when you receive this sort of unsolicited mail like the one in the OP, you'll prolly know it's from scammers, cause in the first place you were never expecting such mail, the service you mentioned above can be used in cases when you are prolly not so sure if it's a scam or genuine.

Having said that, 'always verify, don't trust', don't click on random links and when using your email address on sites, airdrops or services that are somewhat untrusted, make sure to use an email you'll discard right after you're done; always take responsibility.
4168  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Sales of bitcointalk account must be discouraged on: January 21, 2021, 08:46:54 AM
Imo, threads that talk so much about account sales could be counterproductive, when the term "account sales" is constantly brought to the eyes of newbies, it could pique their interest, they will prolly see it as a shortcut and then try to find out how they would buy an account for themselves, forgetting about putting in any effort whatsoever.

Having said that, account sales are already discourage, so that's that, but come what may, there'll be many that will go without being caught, others won't be so lucky, it is what it is, you can't stop every dishonest activity, and there is actually no need reminding newbies that there is a shortcut for them to follow (even when it's done unintentionally).
4169  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Ethereum ATH just surpassed $1440 and dettached from BTC's price coupling on: January 19, 2021, 06:32:07 PM
Ethereum has broke it's all time high of $1400 earlier today with it reaching $1445 before sliding a bit to where it is now at $1416~.
That's a really interesting news for ethereum hodlers, it was never in doubt, at least from my own point of view that ethereum will surpass it's ath, and set a new one, i don't know how high eth will appreciate this year, but it's doing so good to make me believe it'll set a pretty high new ath.
Can it keep this up and will it finally be free of following the all mighty BTC price as it has since it's inception back in 2016?
I'm sure Ethereum's community of investors will want that at one point eth should be free of that, (and imo, a lot of things is going to happen with both ethereum and Bitcoin prices this year), and this could be the year that it finally happens.
4170  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2020/2021 on: January 19, 2021, 08:31:45 AM
Thats right and i think no one expect that the table will be this way because the 2 manchester teams had a bad season starting and they had many isseus but now they lead the standings and i wish the tow teams will fight to the end for the throphy
I'd also love to see the two Manchester clubs go toe to toe for the title, the last time we saw them do that was in the 2011/2012 season, and City came out on top in that one, Roberto Mancini winning the league from Sir Alex Ferguson in the most dramatic of fashions; will Pep and OGS give us that sort of run again, we'll have to wait and see, though I don't think Manchester United can maintain the momentum, but I'm pretty sure City will.
4171  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I predict stricter regulations for bitcoin and the cryptospace for 2021-2024 on: January 19, 2021, 06:58:51 AM
But, here is what i want to know. How will the government regulates bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies that are decentralized?
This is a very interesting question, I read an article that suggests government is prolly going to require every crypto user to carry out transactions only on an exchange, but whichever way you look at it that's not going to be possible, crypto user will still make use of their personal wallets and carry out transactions via P2p, which the government cannot track or regulate.

Having said that, this makes me draw a conclusion that if stricter regulations are to be implemented, the government is going to work with exchanges, cause this exchanges are registered with the government and they hold their users data and information, and like it has happened on numerous occasions, they'll not hesitate to give that info to the government, if they request for it
4172  Economy / Economics / Re: Are Cryptocurrencies Really Money? on: January 19, 2021, 06:42:33 AM
1.   Are central banks digital currency really money? The poll result was Yes (33.8%) and no (66.2%)
AFAIK, no country has 'offially' started using CBDC as of yet (correct me if I'm wrong), so you can't really state categorically how it's going to be used, mind you also that CBDC's will vary based on the country, so how each country decides to use their own might vary as well. But one thing is for sure, it's going to be centralized and controlled by the government, is it money? I think so, more of a digital fiat money.
2.   Are crypto currencies really money? The poll result was; Yes (79.9%) and no (20.1%)
Yes of course, Bitcoin is definitely money cause quite a lot of people give it out in exchange for goods and services, though it can serve some other purposes like investment for instance; but that doesn't take away the fact that it's money, a currency without a third party manipulation, it's a form of money that comes with control and freedom for it's users, it's definitely money, but different from the generally accepted and manipulated fiat currencies.
4173  Economy / Economics / Re: Vaccination Started in India | Impact over Indian Economy & World? on: January 19, 2021, 06:20:28 AM
But I think it's still speculation and vaccines don't necessarily heal the economy from slumping.
Vaccines don't 'heal' the economy per se, but it prevents the population from contracting covid-19, and it's the people in the country that keep the economy working, when the virus broke out early last year and lockdowns were imposed, workers had to stay at home, quite a lot of businesses had to shut down, most economies went comatose as a result of that; so now, if vaccines can be effective, and prevent people from contracting the virus, then all the nations workforce can get back to actively working without the fear of contracting the virus, and that by extension will 'heal' the economy in time to come.
4174  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: the state of cryptocurrency is very difficult to predict on: January 19, 2021, 05:50:57 AM
People should go out from DOT before it will be dumping again by the whales.
That's the thing with quite a lot of altcoins, they pump and then dump, if I was an investor in the polkadot coin, I'd have sold it already, I don't quite believe in the long term productivity of altcoins, except for just a few, like Ethereum for example. I'm impressed with the said Polkadot coin, and I just hope their devs/team are looking to continue working on theirs system for the long term, cause if not, there could be a final dump waiting to happen.
I would not be surprised if in the next year polkadot replace overtake ethereum market cap if ethereum issue left unresolved, many people seems to favor polkadot right now.
I would be surprised, cause I don't think that can happen, is Polkadot the latest in a long line of coins called the 'ethereum killer'. I do not think Polkadot can get the sort of community of investors that ethereum has, Polkadot should basically just work on their system, as there is surely room for improvement, and we'll see where it takes them in the future.
4175  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2020/2021 on: January 18, 2021, 09:47:27 PM
Too bad it's just a draw, their point difference with Man City is only 2 points. Man City still has fewer matches.
Yeah, City have a game in hand, and by Wednesday they'll be level on games played with both United and Liverpool, but will prolly be ahead of them in points and on the league table as a win for City against Villa on Wednesday will take them to the summit. City have just been quietly climbing up the table and now they have the chance to go top, and whenever pep's team find themselves at the summit, it's usually difficult to take that position from them.

Previously I didn't have a favorite team I could pick that will prolly win the league, but now I'm going with City, not just cause they've been winning a couple of games, but cause the team have really improved especially in defense, they had a shaky start to the season, but all that is in the past, Stones and Dias have been impregnable, and going forward we know how lethal they can be. Defensive woes have always been city's undoing, but now it seems like pep has fixed that, I think that'll take them through to be crowned champions at the end.
4176  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Football Transfers Speculation, Odds and Predictions on: January 17, 2021, 10:28:37 AM
According to rumours, Jose Mourinho wants to bring Inter midfielder Christian Eriksen (28) back to his former team Tottenham. He hasn't played at Inter much and he was way better at Tottenham before.
Imo, I don't think this deal will work out, Eriksen has been poor at Inter Milan and if you ask me he'll still be poor at Spurs cause he would get very little playing time just as is his case in inter, it'll be a situation like that of Gareth Bale that's struggling to start games after coming back to Spurs. If Eriksen wants to regain form and start playing regularly, then maybe a switch to a smaller club could be the best option, that way he'll get more playing time and could regain his lost form, the only problem will be if smaller clubs can afford his wages and other financial whatnots.

P.S. it looks like Aguero will only remain in Manchester City if he is willing to take a pay cut, Aguero is 32, so it's only normal for City to put his age into consideration whilst signing a new contract, and that's prolly why a pay-cut is being mentioned before a deal can be struck. I don't if Kun will accept this, not just cause of the pay-cut, but cause he is slowly getting little or no playing time, plus recurrent injury problems.

4177  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will ALT have ATH again? on: January 17, 2021, 10:15:19 AM
I have invested some amount on different alts, I'm in good profit but initially I planned to hold for ATH.
Ethereum could continue appreciating and get to the ATH this year, if you're holding Eth as part of the altcoins you bought, then hodling till ATH can be said to be a good investment, cause ethereum has a strong community of investors, and mind you that the said community will continue to grow, even in this year, and that'll take the price to new heights.

Having said that, I can't say the same of other altcoins, I know Polkadot for example is doing good, though I've personally not bought any polkadot token (I'm only using it as an example), but can you trust polkadot to continue appreciating? I don't think so; with Altcoins, the best strategy is to pull out when you have gotten returns on your investment; and like you said, you already have, so the time could be right to sell and maybe hold only Ethereum, that's if you have it as part of your stash.
4178  Economy / Economics / Re: Birth of Bitcoin in microfinance industry on: January 16, 2021, 07:47:24 PM
OP, your idea is pretty strange cause microfinance funds is given to the unemployed or to people who earn very little, so that eliminates any chance that they are going to hodl Bitcoin if they are given, they'll straight away convert to fiat, so it's much better for the beneficiaries of microfinance funds (loans) to receive it in fiat so they could immediately start up a small business with it or cater for some home needs which is very important.

4179  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Manny Paquiao VS Connor McGreggor? on: January 16, 2021, 03:48:42 PM
Imo, McGreggor just wants to make more money, like he did with his fight against Floyd Mayweather, there was no way he was going to win Floyd, at least not in a boxing ring, if it were in the octagon, then Floyd would stand no chance, but McGreggor is of course content with losing in a boxing ring and making the money he made.

Having said that, I think that's the same situation with this possible fight with Manny, it's about the money for McGreggor, I don't think he stands a chance against Manny Pacquiao in a boxing ring.
4180  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: All of a sudden they want to join crypto. on: January 16, 2021, 03:32:07 PM
...and now they're in my dm's trying to learn about crypto and how I make 6 figures from holding/staking altcoins like $BET $LINK $ ADA. Hmmmmmmmmm life.
Imo, this looks to me like you're only just shilling this coins you've mentioned above, or you're only being comical; this sort of shilling has become more prevalent in the altcoin board right from the beginning of this bull run to the start of this new year. Having said that, if I make '6 figures' like you said you do, I'll keep a low profile, remember it's bad to tell people about how high or even low your stash is...errm, you wouldn't mind, cause you're only shilling or filling post count.
