4161  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ UEFA Euro 2024 in Germany ⚽ - Qualifiers on: April 19, 2023, 05:59:04 AM
There are a couple of odds that seem to be off. I think England should at least be equal to Germany, but rather ahead as you say. And Spain can never be that far behind either. I don't know if they overvalue the home advantage that much? The last time that a national team won the European Championship in their own country was in 1984 in France. It can't be the home advantage that the bookies value so high. Even Belgium is underrated in my opinion. These are some weird odds and France should be a clear favorite.

I say this repeatedly here (that France is far ahead of the others), but other folks don't agree with me. And I agree with you on the home advantage factor. With or without the home advantage, Germany is a shit team. I don't have a very good opinion about England (especially after their poor performance in the Qatar 2022), but at least I could agree that they are far ahead of Germany. However, I can't agree with you on Belgium. Their peak years are behind them and with the downfall of Lukaku, they are out of contention for Euro 2024.

There is more to the game than just batting. Ishan Kishan is a good wk, we only recognize wicket keepers worth when you see one who is not good at it. He is having 33 avg runs per match so far with SR of 145 (source), that's good for t20 format. Tim David in last match took 4 catches and 1 run out, had those catches were dropped Mumbai might not have won.

Also, not everyone may perform excellent in every match, but in that one game that they do, they become the reason for the win.

Batting, bowling, captainship, fielding, economy rate, wicket keeping — all these combined make a good team. Team who full-fills most of these wins the trophy.

As I mentioned previously, I don't have much complaints about Ishan Kishan. I am OK with what he did so far. And regarding Tim David, I would rather blame the management. He needs to bat further up the order. He has got limited chances so far in the Indian Premier League 2023. All that said, there is no excuse for the pathetic performance from Suryakumar Yadav so far. A lot was expected from him, and T20 is supposed to he his favorite format. And in 5 matches, his top score remains the 43 that he made against the Kolkata Knight Riders. Apart from that his next highest score is 15 against the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

The West has seized Russia's reserve, so Russia is seizing the eastern regions of Ukraine? Have you messed up the order here? Russia took over eastern parts of Ukraine back in 2014, and $300 billion of Russia's reserves in foreign banks were blocked after Russia's full-scale invasion last February.

As far as I know, Russia has also seized a lot of investment from European companies inside Russia. Many large corporations have run in to billions of USD worth of losses each. Anyway, Russia has indirectly benefitted from the war. The price of LNG, thermal coal, wheat and sunflower oil went up steeply as a result of the war and Russian exporters have made large profits as a result of this. Also, the Russian Ruble has got devalued by more than 30% over the last 12 months. This has also helped the exporters to make even larger profits.

Poor SRH team management as usual. Those brainless fools keep giving so many chances to players like Samad, Sharma etc which makes me wonder how much they paid to retain their respective places in the team.

24 from 12 balls looked pretty easy, but the SRH tail-enders usually are bad batsmen which explains the loss. MI got lucky if you ask me.

They retained Samad, which makes me wonder about their IQ level. Anyway, cricket is a side business for the SRH management. The franchise is owned by Kalanithi Maran, a multi-billionaire who is known for numerous corruption scandals during the UPA era (2004-2014). The way they behave in public makes me angry. And even the younger members of the family (esp. Kaviya Maran) are very arrogant.

During yesterday's match, they required 24 runs from 12 balls and made just 9 runs. Abdul Samad and Bhuvneshwar Kumar managed just 4 runs from the 19th over which was bowled by Cameron Green. And then Arjun Tendulkar came to bowl the last over and they made just 5 runs.

Portugal have many young talented player but they not brave give them chance get regular position and prefer keep hold on with Cristiano Ronaldo
~~~
That is definitely not true. You are claiming that Ronaldo is the reason why these players are not getting chances. It is the other way around. During Qatar 2022, the Portuguese coach (Fernando Santos) humiliated Ronaldo by not including him in the starting XI. The younger players performed well during the first match (against Switzerland, which they won by a massive margin of 6-1). But the tactic failed against Morocco during the Quarter-finals, and they lost the match 1-0. The younger players first need to perform consistently, before they talk about replacing Ronaldo.
Srilanka destroyed Ireland in the first test match. Getting defeated by an innings and 200 odd runs shows how amature this team is against a good test playing team.
The won't survive if they play against the big 4. The first match was a good experience for them as they now know how to play against Srilanka on their home ground. I am not expecting much from them in the second test match.
Now I have a feeling that Ireland was given test status before they were ready for it. Back in 2019, both Ireland and Afghanistan were elevated to full member status by the ICC. Since then both the teams have played only 3-4 test matches and in each cases they were handed with heavy defeats. They simply can't compete against teams who have decades of experience with test cricket. Previously the ICC had a competition called Intercontinental Cup, which prepared Associate nations for the longer version of the game. This was discontinued many years ago. And that was a setback for many of these smaller teams.
4167  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: April 19, 2023, 03:08:48 AM
Tilak Verma should be put up in the order. He has the potential to score big runs. Ishan Kishan one of the highest paid player is struggling and it is evident with his strike rate. SKY did it again another lose shot and got out cheaply.
If it was not Green then MI wouldn't have reached 190. SRH completely dependent on the performance of foreign players. Mayank Agarwal was thinking that he was playing an ODI rather than a T20 league match. Pathetic performance by SRH yet again.
Ishan Kishan was in decent form so far, but Mumbai would still be disappointed given the tons of money they spent on him. Suryakumar Yadav on the other hand failed completely. His highest score so far has been the 43 that he made against the KKR. In none of the other matches he could manage a score of above 20. And it surprises me that the Mumbai Indians are still in 6th place in points table despite the poor performance form many of their star players. Could have been much worse. Anyway, their next match is against Punjab and they need to win that one to stay alive.
4168  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Saudi Professional League 2022/2023 on: April 19, 2023, 02:53:30 AM
I never expected that Al Hilal would manage to defeat Al Nassr, and that too by such a large margin (2-0). And Al Nassr squad contained all of their star players, including Ronaldo, Talisca and Luis Gustavo. The relatively unknown Odion Ighalo scored both of the goals. Now Al Nassr has dropped to the second place in the points table, with 53 points from 24 matches. Al Ittihad has 56 points from 23 matches. And more worryingly, Al Nassr has won only 2 of their last 5 matches (last month they lost the match against Al Ittihad).
Yeah, it looks like COVID is making a come back these days, probably a new wave in the horizon.
The thing is that most countries kinda decided to not care about it really as they saw the devastating effects of closing down businesses. Plus also there's lots of vaccination done already which should keep things a bit more under control than before.
Back in 2020-2021, even the scientists were not sure about the mortality rates from COVID. Now we know that COVID rarely results in death for healthy young people without comorbidities. On top of that, almost everyone has been vaccinated with at least 2-3 doses. But poor handling of COVID was one of the main reasons why Donald Trump lost the elections in 2020. Before the pandemic had its impact in the United States, he was leading in most of the opinion polls against Biden. But his controversial statements regarding the pandemic polarized the voters back then.
I think the same, even if Messi had a drop on his performance due to his age or an injury, if I was the coach of the Argentinian national team and I was given the choice between bringing a player which may not even play or Messi, I will pick Messi, as not only he could always change a game with a single play of his, but when we add the leadership he has, he could easily help his teammates and give them some advice even if he was not on the field.
The case with Argentina is different from that of Portugal. Argentina has an enormous pool of talented players, and already youngsters such as Julián Álvarez, Alexis Mac Allister and Enzo Fernández are performing well at the international level. The case with Portugal is different. They were always a one-man army led by Ronaldo and once he retires he will leave behind a huge vacuum that none of the younger players will be able to fill. They have a few youngsters like Joăo Félix and Rafael Leăo. But I have found these players to be very inconsistent.
Russian crude oil imports to India has hit a new record, with almost 2.1 million barrels per day being imported in March 2023. This number was 1.6 million in January and 1.9 million in February. Now Russian imports account for almost 50% of the total Indian crude oil imports. Apart from the Urals grade, Indian refiners are also importing other grades such as ESPO and Varandey. On the other hand, Indian imports from OPEC nations such as Iraq and Saudi Arabia has gone down drastically. And Urals is now trading at $66 per barrel (much above the price cap imposed by G7 nations).
Could you please share details of how much profit BCCI generated from WIPL? Seeing the participation of people in WIPL, I am sure the WIPL must be in profit. BCCI earns so much from IPL that they can bear WIPL in loss too.
~~~

BCCI receives revenue from the WPL through multiple sources. A few of them are:

Franchise fees (10-year period): ₹4,669 crore (US$580 million)
TV broadcasting (5-year period): ₹951 crore (US$120 million)

Additionally, the BCCI receives payments for sponsorship and some other sectors. Revenues from ticket sales are given to the franchises. These numbers may look anormous. But compare to the numbers from the IPL, and you will notice how insignificant they are.

Biden is eighty years old, which is old, but I don't think there's a massive risk he wouldn't be able to get to the next 18 months based on his age.

Trump is 76 so it's a bit in the same age group really.

Worth noting that neither of them drink alcohol, so they might be healthier than average.

There may not be a "massive" risk, but there is a significant risk. We are debating in this topic whether the odds that are being provided are accurate or not. And I have made it very clear that the odds for Biden (1.30) and Kamala (9.80) looks out of touch with reality. Kamala's odds should be at least in the 3.00-4.00 range. A lot of things can go wrong for Biden in the next 18 months (just saying about the possibilities). And it's not just the health. The economy is not doing very good, and there is always a chance of another COVID wave.

The Ambanis may be having a big sigh of relief after watching yesterday's match. Their most expensive purchase (Cam Green) performed well against Sunrisers Hyderabad. But the other big purchases are yet to prove their worth. Rohit has so far had only one 30 plus score in 5 innings. Jasprit Bumrah is out injured. Ishan Kishan hasn't converted the starts he got to 50s. Tim David bats down the order, so I don't want to complain about him too much. But their biggest disappointment so far has been Suryakumar Yadav (scored 66 runs in total so far).

I understand what you are trying to say but this current New Zealand team does not include any regular NZ players and few of them are busy play IPL. So in this moment of time, it was a golden opportunity for Pakistan to connivingly win the series.

I also know that it is difficult to win a series by 5-0 but i do expect them to win by 4-1. If Pakistan manage to win the series by 3-2, then i would say that it would be a success for the NZ to show such a good performance even with these players.

Right now Pakistan is leading by 2-1. But I agree that a 2-3 result in favor of New Zealand won't be taken too negatively by the Kiwis. They are a small country of some 4 million people and being branded as one of the top cricketing countries is itself an achievement. And in recent times, the team has benefitted from the influx of players from South Africa and a few other countries. During last match, the New Zealand squad had three foreign-born players (Chad Bowes from South Africa, Mark Chapman from Hong Kong and Ish Sodhi from India).

Yes there is no competition at all between Srilanka and Ireland, just a one sided contest. After this performance of Ireland I don't think they will be given more test against full test status sides. Ireland should have scored ateast 250 in both innings to have atleast a respectable defeat. Total score of Ireland in both innings is just 311. Lorcan Tucker is the highest scorer from Irish side who scored 45 runs in first innings.

Lorcan Tucker is the same guy who scored century against Bangladesh a few days back. Others are not contributing at all. The captain has been a complete failure (Andy Balbirnie) and the Zimbabwean import has disappointed in both the matches (Peter Moor). At this point, Paul Stirling is their best batsman, and his absence was felt in a big way. The good news for Ireland is that Stirling will be available for the second test. If he gets some support from Tucker and Harry Tector, then it will be possible for Ireland to post a decent total on board for the second match.

I had a very important office meeting and therefore I missed Arjun Tendulkar taking the winning wicket for Mumbai Indians. He bowled well today, conceding just 18 runs in 17 balls (in a match where the required run rate was close to 10 runs per over). And all credit to Cameron Green as well. After his good knock with the bat, he had terrific figures of 4-0-29-1. He conceded just 4 runs in the 19th over, fully justifying the price-tag (₹175,000,000 or $2,134,000 per year). Apart from Heinrich Klaasen, all the other SRH batsmen struggled.

Good observation. Is it worth betting on Kamala Harris now, in your opinion? I mean the odds are even better for us gamblers today, around 12.00, but closer to the elections they may drop significantly. Her chances of being nominated are less than 50% imo, but not less than 10%.

That's what I am saying. There is a very high chance (IMO) that Biden won't be healthy enough to run for election in 2024. 18 months is very long time, and lot of things can happen. And in case Biden can't run for POTUS, then who will be the alternate choice? At this point I can't think of anyone other than Kamala. And this is the reason why I am saying that Kamala's odds look crazy at this point. They should be much more favorable. But then always remember that winning the Democrat nomination is a lot different from winning the POTUS elections in 2024.

Again we are talking about Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi, I'm sure these two players were perfect players for ways in any team they were playing but both players are getting old and specialty Ronaldo can't have a good performance anymore like he was playing in Real Madrid and after three years I'm sure both players will have even worst performance. We had even more famous players they got retired and other younger players could replace them there is no need to worry about these two players in the 2026 world cup.

We are talking about an event that is scheduled to take place after 3 years from now. In case of Ronaldo, I am 99% sure that he will not be participating. For all practical purposes, he has moved to Saudi Arabia and Euro 2024 (in case Portugal manages to qualify) maybe his last major tournament for Portugal. In case of Messi, I am a bit more optimistic. As the captain of the winning side in 2022, it is his responsibility to defend the trophy in 2026. So the chances are higher that Messi will participate in FIFA World Cup 2026.

By the way, the gap between France and the other two competitors is not so great:

France 6.00

Germany 6.50

England 6.75

Spain 9.00

Portugal 11.00

Italy 12.00

Belgium 14.00

Netherlands 15.00

In general, this is probably a fair assessment, the only thing that is clearly out of place is Spain - it seems to me that they showed dull football at the World Cup and it is unlikely that anything will change in two years. I don’t understand why they are better than the Netherlands or Italy.

Don't want to say anything offensive, but the odds look batshit crazy to me. Hardly any difference between France and Germany? Germany ahead of England? Seriously? And then Portugal ahead of Italy. IMO, France should be well ahead of all the other teams and England should be in second position. I checked the odds in a few sportsbooks that I use, and Germany is being given very favorable odds in all of them. I don't understand this. Germany is a dying team and they performed very poorly during Qatar 2022. I agree that they will be having the home advantage. But how much that is going to help them?
