Yes, the 16 stadiums that the teams will use during the world cup games are already ready, nothing will need to be built from scratch, just some reforms, improvements and expansions will be necessary.
Why that? Because these three countries actually play football outside the world cup.
Qatar, on the other hand, never had a Football tradition, they should never have hosted a FIFA World Cup, all they have is money to rub on the world and buy whatever they want, including the lives of workers that were lost for there just to satisfy the greed of rich people.

I hope that in the 2026 World Cup, human values will be more valued, above any money the world can buy.

The 2022 World Cup will always remain as a dark spot in the history of FIFA. Qatar, despite splashing $300 billion to showoff their wealth, refused to compensate the 6,000+ migrant workers who died during the construction of the stadiums. And FIFA also didn't uttered a word about this issue. Children of these migrant workers are still starving to death in Nepal and Bangladesh, while FIFA is making big projections of $11 billion revenue for the next edition of the world cup. I agree with the point that there are enough large stadiums in all the three countries who are the hosts. But extensive renovations maybe required, to modify them as per FIFA standards.

The match between New Zealand and Sri Lanka is getting delayed by rain. This is one of the two remaining matches for Sri Lanka in ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Super League. If both these matches gets washed out, they will end up with 87 points (one point behind West Indies) and therefore they may need to play the qualifier tournament for the 2023 ODI World Cup. South Africa will have two matches against Netherlands this week, and if they win those matches then they are through (irrespective of the outcome from NZ vs SL matches).
So sad to hear that the match between New Zealand and Sri Lanka has been delayed due to rain. This match is of utmost importance for SriLanka as it is one of the remaining two matches for them in the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Super League. If they do not get the chance to play this match they could have 87 points one point behind West Indies. They still have a chance to make it to the 2023 ODI World Cup qualifier tournament. Let's hope the weather clears up and the match takes place soon.

Sri Lanka's last match in ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Super League will be played on Friday. Their chances are very slim, even if they win this match. Because in order for them to qualify directly to the next ODI World Cup, South Africa should lose one one of their remaining two matches against Netherlands. That is very improbable, and recently the Dutch lost the ODI series to a below strength Zimbabwe side by a margin of 1-2. And in case the match gets washed out on 31st, then Sri Lanka's chances will also get washed away.

The victory by Scotland over Spain was nothing short of a miracle. Scott McTominay was simply exceptional yesterday and he scored twice against the Spaniards. Spain is in the process of rebuilding their team after some of the senior players retired recently, so actually there was room for these upsets. Still their qualification to the main tournament is not under threat AFAIK. The other teams in Group A are not that strong (perhaps with the exception of Håland's one-man army). But Spain can't afford too many upset defeats now, since they have 3 points from 2 matches.

Really two interesting matches. For Norway, I think they will beat Georgia. Georgia is unlucky to be in a group with strong opponents. I have big doubts about Croatia though. Although they are the favourites in this match, Turkey will play at home and I think they can win. If that happens, it will be very hard for Croatia to qualify.

I have never watched any of the matches from Georgia and therefore I don't know much about them. But then, I know that Norway is a one-man army led by Erling Håland. The question is whether one good player and 10 average players can get them over another team, that is consisted of 11 average players. BTW, Turkey vs Croatia match is going to be interesting. I still believe that Croatia will win by a good margin, but the Turks are always unpredictable. On their day, they can beat anyone within the UEFA confederation, and this time they do have the advantage of playing at home.

A comparison with FIFA doesn't make sense at all. We have an ICC tournament every freaking year, it's not the case with the former. Then there is full members and associate nations drama.

USA ($25T) and EU ($17T) are developed economies and they contribute more than 50% of FIFA revenues according to you (or maybe at best 60-70%). In comparison, a developing economy like India ($3.5T) contributes 90% of ICC revenue. Stark differences in all indicators, don't you think?

FIFA and its member confederations d organize a number of tournaments. And the latest addition is FIFA Club World Cup, which is going to be expanded to 32 teams from the current 7-team setup. Once again, I don't think that the economic status of the country or contribution to the overall revenues should be a deciding factor. BCCI is a filthy rich board, and even if they get 90% of the ICC revenues that will comprise only a fraction of their total turnover. The only side effect will be that the other nations will suffer and they will fail to become competitive at international level. In the end, cricket will become a one-nation sport, similar to baseball.

Making money like this as an organization is not a trouble, it is what you should be aiming at and they are doing the right thing about that part. The issue is doing it in illegal ways, like we all know for a fact that Qatar bribed fifa to do it, and even though it had one of the best finals of all time and got so many views, that doesn't change the fact that it was a shame and definitely looked terrible for most of the organization.

We should be looking towards having some sort of culture that has real football in it to do it. I know that looks like a bad way of saying "west should do it" because west has better football organizations, but africa has it too, and that is not west, I wouldn't be against doing it in africa, or even asia has some great teams, but not Qatar. I am not even in favor of USA, sure they are doing better lately, but they do not have the culture for it.

Qatar didn't bribed the FIFA officials directly. What they did is that they bribed the representatives from poor third world countries, so that they get enough votes to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup. But then, FIFA was complacent in several ways. First of all, they never took any action against Qatar when the bribery allegations came to spotlight. And then they never uttered a word when Qatar refused to compensate dead migrant workers, who lost their lives during the construction of stadiums. And finally, they had no problem when Qatar was actively discriminating LGBT people and unmarried couples during the 2022 edition.

The gas price and restriction in supply has greatly effected fertilizer production which does become a global problem quite easily.   I already thought food production was a bull market this decade and the next but this unforeseen restriction has and will continue to cause problems in many countries.  It also restricts self production and requires countries to import even more foreign food produce, more stress on the dollar and global trade.
Apparently Ukraine was a source of gas of another kind used in chip production.  Some stocks were stored for this event but eventually it will require alternate sources to appear or again the whole world has a constriction on chip supply and design or so I've read.   Again the market was already tight and disrupted in order flow by covid.

Back in 2020, pipeline natural gas was trading at $100 to $150 per thousand cubic meters. Now it's trading at $500 to $600 per k.cu.m (at one point in 2022, prices had crossed $3,000 per k.cu.m, but then it came down). At current levels, producing Ammonia fertilizer from natural gas is unaffordable for most of the industrial units. On top of that, the price of potash fertilizer has also risen thanks to the Russo-Ukrainian war (most of the global production comes from Russia and Belarus). And as a final nail in the coffin, the freight rates have also increased by manytimes.

@tusandii there’s not many major developments since you last watched an India’s cricket match except that their wicket keeper suffered an horrific accident but is making a recovery now, and second big development was Australia defeating them and winning the series despite being the tourists. Furthermore IPL is starting now so you may want to get a closer look on the player’s, as that’ll prepare you for future tournaments to decide whether to wager on India or some other team.

Rishabh Pant is just lucky that he escaped more serious consequences. A few seconds after he got out of the vehicle, it caught fire and was completely destroyed in a matter of few hours. And regarding the Indian tour of Australia, the visitors performed poorly in the first two test matches when Pat Cummins was captaining them. But after Cummins was replaced with Steven Smith, they roared back with an upset win and then managed a draw for the 4th match. And then came the upset series win during the ODI series.
4189  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Women's Cricket Prediction & Discussion - T20 & ODI on: March 28, 2023, 11:08:15 AM
RCB the name itself is jinxed. Like the men team which has the best players on paper the women team did too. Unfortunately they all start playing like a bunch of amature when the game starts. I hope the management of RCB starts working on them by placing some strict guidelines in their contract.

The problem is that Royal Challengers Bangalore women's team members and management never focuses on their game and instead they concentrate on things outside cricket field. What was the point in appointing Sania Mirza as the mentor to this team? If you want, you can ask ex-cricket players such as Rahul Dravid and Stuart Binny to become the mentors to the women's team. But what is the point in asking a tennis player to become the mentor of a women's cricket team? These are the reasons why RCB has become a cursed team.

Well, it is known that the soccer World Cup has been held since 1930, this is a great tradition, it is something that must be maintained, no matter what is believed, the exciting thing about all this is that this great event is celebrated every 4 years, I If I want more countries that have never gone to a World Cup to do so in the next one, it's the first time that 3 countries will organize it,it seems perfect to me, it's something new, if Qatar is new, what these 3 countries are doing is something that I like it even more, you know more things and their culture.

If you care so much about tradition, then you may restrict the FIFA Football World Cup to just 13 participants and 3 confederations. Tradition can't be maintained everytime. Situation needs to change according to time. Back in 1930, there were only a few dozen independent nations. Most of the African continent was under the control of colonial powers, so was South and Southeast Asia. In order to maintain the tradition, you need to ask these countries to represent under the flag of their colonial master, which is illogical.

Now the match is officially called off without a ball being bowled. Sri Lanka needs to play the qualifier in Zimbabwe for the World Cup 2023. One point given to each team and the point of Sri Lanka have reached 88 points. It looks like big difference between the points of Sri Lanka and West Indies.

You are looking at the ICC ODI rankings table, and not at the points table for the 2020–2023 ICC Cricket World Cup Super League. Qualification for the 2023 ODI World Cup will be decided by the latter. If Sri Lanka wins the next match, then there is still a chance that they may qualify directly. They have 81 points now, and West Indies is at 88. If they win the next match, then they will be at 92 points. But still, there is no guarantee. If South Africa wins both of their matches against Netherlands, then they will get to 98 points.

Nobody is saying that PCB must not test new talent from PSL but the way new players are tested is not a wise move. If you see team of first 2 t20Is then majority are making debut or coming back to national team after a long break. Lets not forget that Pakistan is team that is playing more T20 then Test and ODIs. Already Pakistan has lost home series against NZ, Aus and England, and now this series is also lost. If you history of Pak vs Afghanistan then all matches are very narrow win for Pakistan. Still PCB decided to send a new team against mighty Afghanistan.

It doesn't matter whether they win this series or not. What is the significance of this series? It was setup as a last minute replacement by the ACB after Australia cancelled their Afghan tour. Even if Pakistan lose this series, it is not going to impact them in a big way. Matches against teams such as New Zealand and England are far more important. Anyway, we don't even know whether Afghanistan will have the full member status in the long run. That is one of the topics to be discussed during the next general meeting of the ICC.

@Sithara007 According to you, how ICC's new revenue allocation policy should look like? Considering it's on record and a well established fact that BCCI contributes 90% of revenue?

Do you think that BCCI now has a genuine claim or it's still an unfair demand? IMO they should get a bigger pie this time.

None of the sports bodies work that way. USA and EU contribute to more than 50% of FIFA revenues. But these countries don't get any extra funding from the FIFA, and in case of USA their grants are much lower compared to high performing countries such as Argentina and France. Funding should be based on performance, and not based on where the funds originate. First of all, this tiered structure of full members and associate nations should be done away with. And then, funds should be allocated based on performance (only after repealing the current eligibility laws, which allow a "national" team to be comprised of 100% foreign citizens).
4194  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Pakistan Super League #PSL Discussion Thread on: March 28, 2023, 03:31:24 AM
Yeah, I agree because of this workload and length I am giving IPL a copy of English Premier League where players having the highest salaries but their workload and number of matches are creating problems for the many players and now after this all many big stars love to enjoy their good time in other leagues like La Liga, Serie A and Bundesliga where salaries are comparably not like EPL but quality and time is good like EPL.

Now it's all depend on BCCI how they manage this all for the better future because if they will just go for money then surely this will kill the beauty of play and if they will try to manage this all with better idea surely they will have good money and players workload will be also in control, and they will also enjoy this all happily.

The BCCI is going for the kill. They want to expand the IPL time window from 2.5 months to 3 months. And I am sure that in the future they will add additional franchises as well. Last time the BCCI received a total of ₹12,715 crore for the two new franchises (Lucknow and Gujarat). It is easy money for them and in the near future I am sure that they will add more franchises to the league. Only a small part of this money ends up with the players. The highest paid cricketer in IPL is Sam Curran, who is contracted for ₹18.5 crore per year.
4195  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: March 28, 2023, 03:04:08 AM
You are right. After players like Kumar Sangakkara, Lasith Malinga and Sanath Jayasuriya went on retreatment I have not seen any world-class players in the Sri Lankan squad. The Sri Lankan board has completely failed to find suitable replacements for their star players. Mathews is a very talented player. But he cannot help the team responsibly and at the moment when the team needs it. Also, Sri Lanka's bowling line-up is quite weak now. Spin and pace are not doing well anywhere. A good performance is not expected from the Sri Lankan team in the upcoming ODI World Cup.

First of all, it needs to be seen whether the Lankans will be able to qualify for the ODI World Cup or not. It is almost certain that they need to play the qualifier tournament (everything will be clear in another 2-3 days). Here we are discussing about the test performance from Sri Lanka. When was the last time they managed to defeat a pig-4 side in test format? During this cycle of the ICC World Test Championship, they had big wins against the weaker teams such as West Indies. Apart from the solitary win against Australia, during the matches against pig-4 they simply got whitewashed.
4196  Economy / Economics / Re: Russian Gas ban - A problem for Europe or suicide for Russia? on: March 28, 2023, 02:54:55 AM
...and if we'll rewind some more, there was a similar sad story of Native Americans and their brutal slaughter by the "peaceful pilgrims". It was much bloodier if compared to the history of Russia. And btw, communists killed more Russians than representatives of other nationalities: from 1920s to 1950s around 4 million people got deported and ~700k executed.

According to Timothy D. Snyder, Stalin alone alone killed more than 9 million and more than half of this number consisted of ethnic Russians. On top of that, most of the 27 million deaths suffered by the USSR during WW2 resulted from stupid policies of Stalin. And a large share of this 27 million consisted of very young men, and therefore the actual losses in the long run were much more amplified. In Belarus 25% of the population was wiped out as a result of WW2, while in Ukraine the death rate was 16%.

4. Cherry on the cake: China refused to increase Russian gas supplies to China Smiley

Yeah.. we believe you.

https://english.alarabiya.net/News/world/2022/12/21/China-buys-record-amount-of-Russian-LNG-oil-and-coal-purchases-also-surge

Russian exports to China will rise exponentially in the future, in the form of pipeline gas as well as LNG. Power of Siberia 2 pipeline is under construction and once it becomes operational, almost all the volumes that used to flow to the EU will start flowing eastwards. And China remains the no.1 consumer of Russian crude, and here also the volumes are rising:

I hope the next season of WPL becomes more competitive. This year everyone knew either MI or DC would win the first season. Both team played good but I was not happy with DC's fielding yesterday. I also felt the two wickets given in favour of MI in the early stage of DC batting were misjudged by the third umpire. This controversy will stay for sometime. .

In the end Congratulations to MI on the fantastic win. The WPL ended with a jam-packed stadium. It looks promising and now we need to wait for the viewership data to determine how successful was the first season.

What I want to see is more contribution from the Indian players. The overseas players completely dominated the league this time. The franchises who had the best overseas players finished on top, while others couldn't get to the knockout phase. The case with Royal Challengers Bangalore Women was different though. They had some of the best Indian and overseas players, including Smriti Mandhana and Ellyse Perry. And despite all that they finished at the rock bottom of the points table. I don't know the reason for that, but I guess this RCB franchise is cursed, irrespective of whether it is the men's team or the women's.

Imo, it's either Ron DeSantis or Joe Biden, but also Kamala Harris and Michelle Obama are worth some consideration regarding betting on them.

LOL.. from where Michelle Obama came in? She is not even involved in active politics as far as I know. As of now, both Barack and Michelle are touring Australia as a part of their speaking tour. On the other hand, it is the pro-GOP media which always raise this topic. An example here:

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/michelle-obama-potus-2024

In case Biden is not running for 2024 (he has already announced that he will be running), then in all probability Kamala Harris will be the Democrat nominee. Michelle Obama is too low in the order to be considered at this point.
4200  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: March 28, 2023, 02:14:26 AM
The issue with Pakistan is that they have made a stunning decision of sending new team to play T20 series against Afghanistan. The second tier team of Pakistan badly collapsed in front of Afghanistan team. May be this is move to strengthen position of struggling Rizwan and Babar back in team. Nobody is appreciating PCB idea of sending such new and inexperienced team. Even if you trying to test new players test them in a team where majority are experienced players. Now there are chances of losing series 3-0.

IMO, it is not a foolish decision from the PCB to send a young and inexperienced team to face Afghanistan. T20 rankings doesn't matter much (unlike the case with ODIs and tests), and it is always good to build a player pool for the future. And we need to admit that there were a few positives from the first two matches. And Pakistan comprehensively won the third match despite overwhelming odds. Saim Ayub (20-years old) and Iftikhar Ahmed clicked with the bat, while in the bowling department there was good performances from Ihsanullah and Zaman Khan.
