4181  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: El Salvador's President Bukele gets An 85% Approval Rating on: March 19, 2022, 02:53:53 AM
An italian podcaster spent more than one month in El Salvador spending only bitcoin: no usd, no credit cards, only bitcoin, both onchain and LN.
He said that the average people in El Salvador know very little about bitcoin, so I guess this astonishing level of popularity is due to other reasons than our mutual orange friend.

Heard something similar as well — that the Bitcoin-aware people are still mostly concentrated to the Playa El Zonte(a.k.a. Bitcoin Beach) area. Quite weird though knowing that the government pretty much airdropped bitcoin to the peeps.
4182  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What can we do to speed up Bitcoin mass adoption? on: March 18, 2022, 05:28:01 PM
Yeah, Bitcoin isn't being used as a daily currency by the masses. Instead, they're using it for a means of potentially escaping the rat race that fiat promotes i.e they're using it as a reserve currency, as a way of escaping inflation. I don't have a problem with that, and even if pretty much everyone used it like this, it would still be valuable. I've said this many times, but I think the original purpose of Bitcoin has been lost by the many, and now they just see it as a potential way to make money, rather than acknowledging the problems with banks, and how fiat fundamentally stripes their freedom.

Slightly agree, but I don't think it's necessarily "lost", it's just not ready yet due to the heavy heavy volatility. I think the best time for bitcoin to be actually used a currency is if it's already cemented itself as a great SoV with a good amount of adoption. Waiting for that time(whenever that is) would probably give us ample time for layer-2 solutions to mature as well.
4183  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Always look out for a good entry point on: March 18, 2022, 04:53:34 PM
Someone on Reddit said he bought bitcoin at over $60000, I believe he is losing by now and full of regret. If he hodl, he will still gain but this can take over 2 or 3 or more years. Best advice is to buy the dip.

Sure if a certain person went all in on one purchase at $60k then we can say that he most probably just FOMO'd so it was somewhat a subpar move. But trying to buy dips could end up worse. Price dips? "oh this will drop more, I'll wait a bit more." lmao. DOLLAR. COST. AVERAGE.

Also, we're not specifically talking about bitcoin here.
4184  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What can we do to speed up Bitcoin mass adoption? on: March 18, 2022, 04:47:56 PM
Seems to me like we've already hit some pretty insane adoption levels.  Even high school kids nowadays own crypto.  Granted it's usually ethereum, but they are very familiar with the whole ecosystem.  The thing that seems to need acceleration is actual use of Bitcoin.  Wall Street is scooping it up, billionaires are promoting it, businesses are adding it to their balance sheets, more and more people are accepting it for payments...  Actual usage appears lower than it was 5 years ago.  Maybe this is due to the popularity of altcoins, but it makes me sad to think that Bitcoin's main use case is buying altcoins.  We need to see more people using Bitcoin.  Back in 2011 there were people on these forums using it to bet on Monopoly games or anything else you can think of.  Now it seems everyone wants to HODL but also wants adoption to spread.  It's an interesting scenario that has so far played out in price appreciation.  I don't think that will last forever.

Bitcoin's "main use case" isn't for buying altcoins for a while now, as the liquidity of x/ETH and x/USDC trading pairs have been a lot higher compared to the past now. And it's totally fine!

Unpopular opinion: holding bitcoin is using it. Each person will have different use-cases for bitcoin as each people's needs are different.
4185  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What can we do to speed up Bitcoin mass adoption? on: March 18, 2022, 03:59:57 PM
I still mostly hold the opinion that bitcoin won't be used by the mass majority for payments any time soon. First, they need to know the importance of BTC as a decentralized and scarce asset that you can park a certain percentage of your net worth in. We're nowhere near having most people knowing that just yet, it's mostly still that BTC is a get-rich-quick scheme.
4186  Economy / Economics / Re: Nowdays how to get wealthy secret on: March 18, 2022, 03:28:23 PM
The not-so-secret to wealth is simply to start a great business or career and wisely invest your earnings into great assets, not this sort of "just counter-trade everyone" strategy that can work in some instances but is likely to not simply work in a longer time frame.
4187  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: We should forget that there'll be 21M BTC on: March 18, 2022, 03:05:48 PM
We use 21 million simply because its' the technically correct number(rounded up). But really, the 21 million doesn't matter that much — it's just a number to give people a clearer picture that bitcoin is scarce with a maximum supply cap.
4188  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: new opening of Bitcoin monetary era on: March 18, 2022, 02:39:48 PM
I have been searching for this news on the official Twitter account of the Terra project, but there isn't anything about it. The link to the tweet OP posted is from 14 March and I went back as far as 13 March and nothing. There is nothing about it on their Medium account either. You would think that if something like that was official, they would advertise it all over the place. It's just speculation at this stage or an attempt to get some hype started.

Do Kwon's Twitter is the source of a lot of things like stompix said, and they've created a separate Twitter account for this sort of "foundation". They call it "Luna Foundation Guard".

https://twitter.com/LFG_org

As for the other responses: I totally get the skepticism, but this project is backed by highly respected VCs so the chances of this being sort of "fake" is kinda unlikely(though not impossible).

And just to make myself clear: I don't own and never held any $LUNA. Lots of very bad projects(and this may be one of them depending on a person's opinions about algorithmic stablecoins) in the cryptocurrency space but not every single one is a scam.
4189  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: new opening of Bitcoin monetary era on: March 18, 2022, 08:50:35 AM
To me this sounds more like a centralized shitcoin is advertising itself by using the word "BTC" so that they can gain some popularity in this market. This certainly is not the first time.
For example have they provided any proof of this claim? Like a signed message from address(es) containing $10 billion worth of bitcoin? I couldn't find any proof after looking a little.

The Terra project has been pretty popular for a while now even before this BTC purchasing thingy was announced. But yea, as far as I know the bitcoin wallet address hasn't been publicized just yet.
4190  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why Hoard Bitcoin? on: March 18, 2022, 07:25:53 AM
It's pretty simple — because some people think that it will be far more valuable in the future; not to mention that in it's current state, bitcoin isn't that widely accepted for payments just yet.

Also, not everyone is sold on the BTC as a currency concept; some people just look at it as a decentralized asset like a digital version of gold.

Software wallet

Hardware wallet

Do virtual machines protect you from malware and keyloggers?
The thing is if you click on a link that might be dangerous, does the VM protect it or not?
Virtual machines help in a way that you have a contained environment to do stuff that you'd deem risky; hence you can infect that VM with as much malware as you want and there's a great chance that your main OS won't be harmed.

What about linux?
Linux isn't necessarily more secure, but the fact is — most malware is made for Windows devices.

What about paid anti virus like kaspersky or norton etc if you use windows?
They can help in some instances, but security mostly depends on the user, and far less about the anti-malware.

P.S. I've seen you post questions quite a bit, and most of the time your posts can be quite annoying to respond to because you have like 4-8 questions in every post. Maybe calm down a bit lol.
4193  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do you think DEX is safer? Here is why I don't on: March 18, 2022, 03:39:17 AM
Your wallet being "connected" to the DEX doesn't mean that they can just steal your funds through an exploit or through a bad actor. There's a reason why every time you make a swap, you need to approve the transaction using MetaMask.
4194  Local / Pamilihan / Re: ABRA Referral Rewards not paying? on: March 17, 2022, 05:14:40 PM
May mga na-invite ba kayong parang kasama niyo sa bahay ganun? I'm guessing lang na baka naghihinala sila sa mga invitees ng mga ibang tao kaya ganyan. Since very reputable naman ang Abra, lalo na't ung CEO nila(Bill Barhydt) is very public.
4195  Economy / Speculation / Re: BITCOIN will rise on: March 17, 2022, 04:58:28 PM
Re: BITCOIN will rise

Chain analysis can only help us get a good grasp at how supply moves; but it doesn't give us a clear picture of the potential demand — which is what actually mostly matters when talking about markets. Can't really have accurate expectations with supply alone.
4196  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Is there any VCC provider that doesnt require KYC? on: March 17, 2022, 04:47:01 PM
If you find a virtual credit card company that provides services without requiring KYC, it's either:

1. it's a scam
2. the company is very new hence little to no government intervention, but likely to require KYC sometime in the future

I really don't have anything to recommend lol.
4197  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: new opening of Bitcoin monetary era on: March 17, 2022, 04:30:35 PM
If UST becomes backed by a good amount of BTC percentage wise, then it will definitely make things more interesting; making BTC as a reserve asset a reality. Afaik as for now it's still majority backed by $LUNA.

I really wouldn't call this 'decentralized' though; they're pretty much custody-ing BTC. But at the very least it's non-custodial, so it has it's own advantages(and disadvantages) vs USDT and USDC.
4198  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What kind of software should beginners know? on: March 17, 2022, 11:40:11 AM
Screw software to begin with — what you need at the start is education. You can have a hardware wallet and the most secure devices in the world but you'd still end up screwed if you know what you're doing. If the person understands security risks a decent amount already, he/she would know the important software needed.
4199  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: 1$ per day crypto investment plan any good ? on: March 17, 2022, 08:23:13 AM
10% of your income is a fairly responsible amount in my view, so I'd say go with it. Just remember that with that amount, you're likely to not get rich with bitcoin, but it could definitely help boost your earnings by a good amount if things go fine.

Also quick reminder that you should be frequently looking for more ways to increase your current income or look for more income sources.
4200  Economy / Economics / Re: What skills should I learn to get freelance work ..?? on: March 17, 2022, 06:41:53 AM
While it would mostly be better if you go with something you're interested in, money-wise probably programming(not necessarily blockchain-related) would be best. Demand is always there and will always be there, and is highly likely to just continue to increase year by year.
