421  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Bitcoin & "How to start " Blockchain startup[DAOs] in India on: January 17, 2022, 02:39:38 PM
I agree that most of the "users" from India are basically just people looking to make a quick buck with zero effort like sharing a twitter or facebook post that goes like, "Great option friends..chuuta-patta-some-shitty coin is the next Bitcoin. They have no qualms about fooling others.

The trend of marketing MLMs also has people believing that this "add more people under you" stuff is somehow legal and a valid method to earn money. The ignorance can indeed be bewildering.

This does not mean that there isn't potential for blockchain applications to gain usage and ground. The reality is that the serious developers and investors are yet to rise up and take the space seriously. We are at the stage where a few early people have made exchanges and then just copy stuff. A lot of people like WazirX but it has been the leader in copy-pasting. There NFT market is filled with profiteers who buy artist pieces at 12 WRX and immediately relist them at 1200.

The folks at the exchange couldn't care less about the artists as long as they are getting their fee. There is a lot of space for genuine, smart and well-intentioned people to use the blockchain tech for mutual benefit. But that intent has to be there. Good things happen only if somebody does good things. Otherwise, shit is what you get like the current market.

As far as the BAN is concerned, the govt has always maintained that they will ban "private" cryptocurrencies. Whether they will provide clarification on what is private and whether DAO can be considered a public good, is something we have to wait for. The indian "think-tanks" are probably just waiting for the US to make up its mind and then copy there model with slight changes. I would be shocked if they make an effort to come up with something original themselves. Its not really an important issue for them except when it is named with a link to terrorism and the Govt gets active to earn the "security" brownie points from its core constituency.
422  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: A quick question!! on: January 17, 2022, 01:52:45 PM
I don't think the influence has dropped. He still mentions Doge here and there. Yet, I think there are enough people who lose money by putting in their life-savings because of these stupid endorsements he gives to Doge. For people like you and me, who frequent crypto-circles, we know that what he is doing is typical of any so-called crypto-influencer. So much so, that shilling is an acceptable way in crypto. Even if the calls fail, people will always tell you that "Dude, don't follow my buys..i just post random shit I like".

When it comes to Musk, there are enough newbies who have only heard of crypto in passing. Yet, when they hear Musk say "Doge", i am sure they are 100% convinced that Doge is going to be some Mars coin. A lot of them would have bought in with all they have and they lost the money to the serious, more experienced people in crypto. This has created the cycle of people knowing that its just a joke and an attention-garnering mechanism for him.

Now if Elon comes to his sense and realizes that DOGE has literally NOTHING to offer compared to Bitcoin, and then starts talking about LN, for he apparently cares about small payments, the situation may well resolve. Otherwise its just a tiger he is riding and can't stop anymore.
423  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Pakistan has started work on legalizing bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies on: January 17, 2022, 01:34:22 PM
Considering that Pakistan has been grey-listed by FATF due to its connections with sponsoring terrorism, it probably would be one of the things that the Pakistan central bank wants to do to manage that image. The bad image makes it difficult for avenues of receiving foreign funds and investments from the formal sector. I don't think that a handful of Pakistanis spending time to earn little amount of Bitcoin and crypto makes much of a difference to the economy. The fact that its central bank is giving this so much attention is interesting.

Especially after having worked and given out signals to bring about regulations, doing a U-Turn now would suggest that there are other reasons behind this. I would not be surprised though that the Govt considers it a threat as the extremist groups may actually be using crypto for a hawala network. Pakistan has struggled internally with the extremist elements for a long time and nothing is as it seems in Pakistan.

Well as a neighbor who is watching the fruits of hatred in my own country, I can only say that may the people and those in power continue to take the right path. Violence and extremism can never lead to anything fruitful. All it leads to is more power struggle and more bloodshed.
424  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Curbing Blockchain evolution? on: January 17, 2022, 01:24:57 PM
There have been a lot of things similarly deemed "illegal" that have not been "curbed" till now. Whether it is P2P torrents, synthetic drugs or plain smuggling (risky cross border trade that bypasses regulations); all of these things stand at various levels of "illegality" but still persist because the governments either CANNOT or, as in case of drugs and arms smuggling, WON'T.

So for anybody talking about curbs, there are far more things to be handled than blockchain. Sure the media will malign it as negative press is always more eye-catching, yet the fact is that Bitcoin and blockchain technology has been a huge positive in the lives of many many people.

Crypto will continue to be regulated and the usage will continue to increase as long as people, corporations and entrepreneurs think that these have potential. Why even ponder on these thoughts? This line of thought is now at least half-a-decade too old.
425  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Prophesy on: January 11, 2022, 03:17:47 PM
--snip--
At this time, Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are not going to be a big deal anymore. No one will care about whales and sharks manipulating the market prices because there will be sophisticated systems put in place that serve as buffers.  It’s going to be like having a dollar or your local currency. Everyone will have it no matter how little.
God, Why do new posters have to type everything in one bunch. Use paragraphs man. All it takes is the "Enter" key on your keyboard. Also, what is this deal about "Sophisticate systems in place that serve as buffers".

Whales and sharks manipulate markets everywhere. They are also free-market players acting out of their own self-interest. Sure an anonymous, unregulated market does give them a free hand. Despite this, crypto communities have been good at self-policing. The scams and manipulation is continuing to be a problem but if we need centralized actors to solve that, then this whole thing may as well be the same as banks.

When Satoshi created bitcoin, it was meant to be a P2P currency that can lead to free trade among individuals. It has now evolved to be a currency and a form of money by itself. Currency is the lifeblood of international trade and economy and that is the role that Bitcoin can potentially fulfill better than traditional currency. Apart from that, the transparency make it one of the best ways to manage public funds. Like why isn't the UN already using it, I'll never understand.

Bitcoin needs no prophets and prophecies. Its just a system that gives hope for a better future, a more connected and informed mankind which is aware of the importance of privacy and security. That is how it needs to be looked at, rather than some sort of magic pill for all our pains.
426  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who is really controlling the Bitcoin market. on: January 11, 2022, 02:58:53 PM
Most of the investors (including me) indeed wait for the price to go down. The nature of bitcoin, or the nature of cryptocurrencies, is that the more it goes down, the more chances of its increase. Back in 2017, we all just lost hope for bitcoin. It Was almost dead, but later, it broke all the records, and the final price went to $60,000. We don't always wait. We also build hope.

The movements and the possible fortunes of the market are difficult to understand for even experts, but as you point out; It has indeed been established as something that people want enough for it to bounce back. It's always good time to buy Bitcoin because it is the strongest and the only truly decentralized cryptocurrency going around.

The dip due to rumors of Fed rate revisions, geopolitical circumstances in Kazakhstan and the Omicron variant brought markets down everywhere and these apprehensions seem to be behind the pullback. Yet, going by the trend, it will come back. TLDR; I think it's a good time to stack sats from a long term investment point of view.
427  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is it always safe to connect your (metamask) wallet? on: January 09, 2022, 04:45:58 PM
--snip--
When should I not connect to a website?

Anything that doesn't have a public contract. The ones where you cannot see the "Read/ Write" contract part on etherscan.

Most scams happen not from the "Sign metamask" transaction with which you connect but from some links on the website itself that can install malware.

With the number of times people just blindly connect for airdrops, its a big flood of scams waiting to happen when someone will attack the whole ethereum community at the same time.

You have a ledger so no problems of exposing the private key so that is definitely a win.
428  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What are you buying right now? on: January 09, 2022, 04:41:13 PM
I am very bad at re-organizing portfolio as every time i gather enough conviction to do something, the gas price is always too high.

If gas prices were to permit, I'd probably diversify into AVAX and SOL.

Solana is a dirty play as its only chance to go up is the fact that it has a lot of VCs guiding the marketing needed to pump. It has no soul but it can easily be good for taking profits. DOT would be my next closest pick.

Apart from this, of course, I would continue to stack BTC. wBTC to be accurate as there is no time to bring it to mainchain.
429  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Everyone will receive a paper wallet in their post. Then what? on: January 09, 2022, 07:26:55 AM
I have one question for you:

What will happen to the bitcoin price when everyone starts receiving empty bitcoin paper wallets with everything they get on the post?

You can always put a paper wallet in my mailbox. I will welcome it.

- remotemass
A set of mnemonics and private keys with zero UTXOs on them is as interesting as something with a total set of 2^160 can be. It is so very abundant that nobody will pat attention.

I doubt that anybody is interested in going through the technicalities of using a paper wallet randomly received in an e-mail.

So all it'll do is make them send it to spam. On the other hand, attach a few LN Sats to the address and maybe make it into an NFT or something, and then people may notice.
430  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A quick reminder from Eric Adams, mayor of the City of New York. on: January 07, 2022, 04:45:16 PM
Bitcoin going down right now with the stock markets tells me two things:

1. It continues to be paper-handed by traders and newbies alike.
2. They still don't get it.

Stocks move and everybody starts selling. Let it go down and keep going down till only those remain who want to buy Bitcoin because they want to hold a truly decentralized asset, not because "numbers go up".

That being said, I would love to know that how many of those paper hands move to crypto stablecoins and how much of that change is due to retail just cashing out from the fear of a crash.
431  Economy / Reputation / Re: One milestone achieved [Amazing journey to Legendary] on: January 07, 2022, 04:15:06 PM
--snip--
I think it is less than five months I joined the forum and become productive. I want to encourage you. Nobody is hoarding merits from you neither are you at a disadvantage as a newbie. Do your best and leave the rest. There are other of my peers who started the year as newbies and are full members now. Some have enough merits to be hero member already and they are still contributing everyday to the forum with no paid signature campaigns on their backs. A new rank adds more responsibility to the user and when you are given that responsibility. Do good with it.

I know many established are tired of this tradition but for a new era member like myself Why not celebrate? I'm glad to be among the ranks and hope to grow more in the future. I will be updating this thread on each new rank achieved until I reach Legendary.

Congratulations. And you are right that a lot of times, these celebratory posts can feel cringe but, what the heck, its the internet and you are free to do what you love. As long as its not just for the love of money or for running scams.

Humans make the best things and then find a way to spoil them too. Internet opened up so many possibilities for the world to come closer, for people to know each other better and that we did. Unfortunately, it also opened up scams and opportunities for evil people. Just keep doing good and wish you strength in the face of greed and temptation.

432  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: bitcoin is unsettling, for those who don't have it on: January 07, 2022, 04:08:42 PM
Good newbie story with the typical "I love Bitcoin" theme. Answering with perfect multiple quotes. Account made 2 days ago and regaling the forum already with stories about "resigning from a private bank job for Bitcoin in 2020". Yeah I will pass. Going by the looks of it, it'll take sometime to setup these Alts. But go on, the forum by its very nature is open to second chances. Wish you no luck.

Of course, this can't be done easily because when I was originally here I even made something in the wrong place because I'm not used to it because I found this forum as a result of accidentally seeing a video made by one of the YouTube accounts named steam time and maybe you can see my first post there if you are interested even though there are some warnings from other members there.

and yes, it took several previews to make a reply for me, fortunately in the Steam Tyme video it is also explained how to reply correctly.
when you say no luck I think you are overreacting my friend.

to reply to the video tutorial, it's clear here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7NHfaViknzM
Believe me when I say that I want to believe you. The Steamtyme video checks out and that guy is an old member here. Congrats that you found a way to make a well formatted posts before starting to post here.

Don't mind me. I only wished you No Luck, in case you are an Alt trying to get away after some scammy behavior. Well, let me take my words back and welcome you. Alt or not, its upto everyone to paint their slate the way they want to. I am just used to seeing scams all over the cryptoverse, especially with people agreeing to others to seem like part of communities.

I hope we'll keep seeing thoughtful posts from you and I wish that 2022 makes you rich. We are entering a bear market so its anyways a good time to put your head down and start learning. Good Luck!
433  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will owning 0.01 BTC really make you rich? on: January 07, 2022, 03:53:20 PM
Bitcoin is a currency. Owning a currency will never make you "Rich". Being Rich means you have a lot of diversified assets such that you have steady streams of income which will continue to serve even in your absence.

Owning something like Bitcoin is hardly a claim on future earnings. The "deflation" thesis can only work for so long. And in my opinion, that time has long gone. The people who were meant to get lucky on Bitcoin have already gotten so. Owning it or DCAing into it will no longer make anybody. It is now a source of returns and volatility above average than what other assets can offer.

What Bitcoin will continue to offer is access to knowledge and community that is hard to replicate or find elsewhere. The only way to get rich is work your ass off on all the stuff that keeps popping in 2-3 year cycles around Bitcoin, including Alts, NFTs, DeFi etc etc. Bitcoin gaming could be next. Lightning Network enabled DEXes and leveraged trading could be next.

Stack Sats but don't expect them to make you or anybody else rich. For example, if you are like me and not rich even after being here since 2017, then you are most probably amongst the people who will not just someday "strike" gold. Just do your work, say your prayers and hope that something good will keep coming along your way.
434  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I made a cartoon movie revealing the secret of Bitcoin and Darknet - Episode 7 on: January 06, 2022, 03:27:29 PM
Looks like a whole cartoon series with conspiracy theory that Bitcoin network is apparently solving the data that the government gets from their "telescopes in space".

LOL. It'd be good if the idea behind Bitcoin network doing some sort of simulation tests could be established with any accuracy. Its an open network and everybody can see whats happening on the network.

The NASA programming center had table fans. That was good.

Did you do the animation yourself though?

436  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Internet is down on Kazahstan, Bitcoin Hashrate drooped, Price affected? on: January 06, 2022, 03:15:35 PM
Kazakhstan was all over crypto twitter today. From people making threads explaining that its not about Borat to the fact that its the 9th largest country by area in the world, and land-locked at that. There are speculations of this being some sort of power move from the US but the explanation is quite simple that the people are tired of their 30+ year old dictatorship.

So apparently the miners cannot mine. While this drop in hashrate doesn't mean anything but Bitcoin is like that. It needs a trigger to move. Things have already been on a downtrend for quite sometime and this miner news was probably just a catalyst. This will never cease to amaze.

I will just DCA a bit to shore up my little BTC hodlings.
437  Economy / Reputation / Re: Bitcointalk Charity and its funds on: January 06, 2022, 03:09:48 PM
I wanted to write a lot of swear words but it doesn't really matter. Take money for charity and do with it whatever you think is right. Don't keep records. Make shitty excuses. Tell people you are very busy coz you have a million Telegram groups to mod and scam more people in there by pumping shitcoin projects for them without even verifying the team's backgrounds.

The method is very simple. Build up a reputation here. Get into managing communities locally. Then do questionable things and blame it on others for not understanding, coz you are BUSY. Gotta love that false sense of entitlement.

This unprofessionalism is the reason a lot of things have gone to shit despite being promising.

One of these days, I will solve this funny charity business. There is a lot of people who would love to donate Bitcoin to actually make a difference but there is just too much scope for mistakes/ scams in the name of charity. This is a problem that needs solving.
438  Economy / Economics / Re: New Year - The crypto economics on: January 01, 2022, 04:17:17 PM
The year hasn't been too wonderful to me in terms of finances. I am not very good at managing finances or taking risks. Despite that, I am taking baby steps towards taking chances.

In terms of my wish, i know a lot of people will hate this, but i wouldn't mind going back to the time when getting 0.005 in your wallet was not really a big deal. Now it seems like its a week's worth of salary for a lot of people. LOL.

Really though, I intend to take sometime off from my job to pursue and academic qualification i have long wanted, experience classroom learning again and work on understanding the software and technical aspects of cryptocurrency in more detail.
439  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Can you make money from meme coins? on: January 01, 2022, 04:00:34 PM
80% of my gains this year came from meme coins but at one point I got tired of them because Devs and scammers focus more on this use case now than anything, it's just a money making opportunity for them now so I stopped investing money on them as they get more unsafe to invest money on
Smart move. There is always new fads going on in crypto. The earlier you catch them, the better it is in terms of returns.

Unfortunately, the hype seldom lives upto the actual product and most of the late entrants are only exit liquidity for the devs, the scammy teams and of course the influnecers.

Memecoins made a lot of people money but a lot of people lost on them too. Similarly, while NFTs made a lot of people crazy rich, most of the others who go into them hoping that it'll actually make sense and stand for something, more often than not, have ended up losing money.

It is only a game for those with a lot of ETH to play with. Upwards of 10-15 ETH. Otherwise its just meaningless images in your wallet that pay for the ones that the flippers sell off.
440  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: bull run on: January 01, 2022, 03:56:18 PM
Nothing can predict what causes a bullrun.

The last time it was the DeFi summer egged on by Elon Musk's antics with Bitcoin. Accepting it and then pivoting to Doge. I doubt that there can be any more of such events to drive the price up.

Most of what will drive the bullrun will consist of people using Bitcoin as a collateral in DeFi applications, If they will.

The other factor can be regulatory clarity and ETF launches that have been postponed for quite sometime in the US now. If one of these things doesn't happen by the next 2-3 months, i'd say we are in for another winter.
