421  Other / Off-topic / Re: How to earn 52000 BTC on: May 28, 2014, 07:29:25 PM
Earning it. You don't necessarily have to buy it.
so Earning 52000 BTC will take lifes , without developing a strong Business , you can't just earn 52000btc working for some other person , its not 2010 where you'll get paid 10KBTC for ordering a Pizza , this is 2014 where you can buy an Island with 10K BTC ..!

I'm not saying it's 2010. But you can still, honestly earn 52,000 Bitcoins without buying that much.

How so? I guess you could get in very early on a huge altcoin pump (like, say, those that bought a share of NXT way back when). But that is a huge speculative long shot.

How would one go about earning that much?

Isn't putting glue on a chair a really stupid thing to do?

Doesn't that fundamentally depend on whether or not you will be the one sitting on it?

Well, not really. I mean, I get that it's a prank and all. But that doesn't mean that it isn't still a stupid thing to do. But I was never a prankster myself. Wink

So your question is where?

Doh!

Ahem. Apparently, I forgot which thread I was in. Where is my brain again?
423  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 28, 2014, 07:25:41 PM
Have we already seen the full extent of the effect of the Willy Bot news? If it gets more substantiated in some way, would we face more negative sentiment? How did the story affect holders who may have bought based on that perceived buying pressure in the last bubble?

People pay what they are willing to pay for something. Regardless of the fact willy accounted for 10% of the 20% gox had as a measure of global volume plus we all remember China was leading right Wink , I fail to see how that effects the price today. The only thing that gives bitcoin is value is what somebody is willing to pay for it. You may be willing to pay less based on a belief the last bubble was soley to do with one bot but someone also has to be willing to sell to you on that reason alone. The fact that many knew something like this was 1) likely to be happening and 2) if you were around for the last 4 ish months of Gox' life people were speculating that this was going on even coining the 'bot' willy at the time was happening, means in general its not that huge of a deal.

Add into that its still only speculation, none of this can be proved. It could easily be high value customers who didn't have accounts so as to not leave millions sitting in an account to be hacked. Instead they wired money direct to gox and in return Mark had programmed a 'bot' to execute trades at certain times. Given Marks track record it stands to reason he may also 'accidently' co-ordinate that to oppurtune moments.

Further to that as well the database leak while containing customers info, some have stated they dont show all their trades for that period. Is it not possible that someone doctored the database wrote this story and waited for an oppurtune moment to release it. Far fetched but just as speculative as the report.

I agree, it seems still only speculation. That's why part of me wonders if we might see more evidence come out in the future that may negatively impact the market. My general feeling about effect on price was that people were willing to pay x $ for y BTC at that time, and since then we have built significant support on top. So I'm thinking it is mostly priced in, but was interested in other opinions as well.

Always nice to hear. Of course, most start-ups will fail! Smiley But it is certainly an exciting time to be a part of the bitcoin community and economy, that is for sure! Cheesy
425  Other / Off-topic / Re: Best energy drink on: May 28, 2014, 07:10:12 PM
They all taste really horrible. Red Bull is the most tolerable. But they just taste bad, and they don't offer any real energy. Not that I could tell, anyway, but YMMV.

Taste-wise Red Bull and Monster are somewhat similar. The only difference is that Monster Energy is a bit sugary, when compared to Red Bull. The ingredients also, are almost same.

Could be. Taste is subjective, eh? I wouldn't be surprised if Monster continually tried to make its formula similar to Red Bull's, as Red Bull was the first mover. This opinion was formed several years ago -- I wouldn't touch an energy drink now. Smiley

Make a scam exchange, like Mtgox.

As much as I hate to say it, this is true to an extent. Fly by night exchanges (especially for altcoins) seem to pop up all the time, and people flock to send money there. Some of these businesses could disappear overnight and no one could likely do anything. Some do appear more legit -- Crypsty is registered in Florida, for instance.

428  Economy / Economics / Re: I think I found the perfect way to schedule a massive pump on: May 28, 2014, 06:56:04 PM
Ok hear me out. If a whale wants to announce a pump anonymously, he can make a long expensive post on http://bitcoinmegaphone.com announcing the date and time.

If the post is long enough (ie, expensive enough) people will know he's actually a whale and is serious. Then the post's permalink will get spread around the internet, helping to ensure the pump has a good chance of happening.

Thoughts?

Announcing the date and time of a pump renders the whole thing dead. Everyone will be front running each other to get in before the pump "starts" and then when it officially does, everyone will be running for the exit. Could work out well for the whale, though, if they accumulated nicely before making the announcement.
429  Economy / Economics / Re: Surely the Government has the right to tax fiat? on: May 28, 2014, 06:54:08 PM
It's not really a "product" developed by government. It's just an age old system that they *force* people to use. (For example, try paying your taxes in bitcoin)
430  Economy / Speculation / Re: Dat volume on: May 28, 2014, 06:51:44 PM
I was feeling pretty bearish when we dropped from 595 last, but sell volume just keeps dying out and can't push past this 550-570 area. I think if it holds again I'm gonna buy back.

Nothing outside of EU and Asia will impress.

did you see the picture i posted of los angeles, california? what do you think? does that mean you aren't impressed? that's my home, man! haters gonna hate, i guess.

haters. gonna. hate.

Wow! That smog *is* quite impressive. I never noticed it hanging so thick when I visited there a few years ago. Maybe it has improved since then, or it's the type of thing that differs a good deal day-to-day or week-to-week?

I work a pretty lame 9-6 office job. Pay is okay but nothing to write home about. Trying to get a bit of extra BTC on the side doing signature advertising, since I don't have much extra money to buy BTC with. Smiley

1. Find Bitcoin in 2009
2. Buy
3. Hold

Profit.

Pretty much. I think it's pretty tough to come across four figures of BTC or even three figures without pouring in a lot of dollars.

Earning it. You don't necessarily have to buy it.

You mean like a wage paid in bitcoin? Opportunities are few and far between there.
436  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Looking for Signature program for Jr Member. on: May 28, 2014, 06:39:57 PM
There is a pretty big gap between Jr Member/Member and Member/Full Member. It's annoying when you are a genuine poster, but I imagine it deters a lot of spam simply by forcing people to put in real time to achieve higher forum rankings, rather than simply posting.
437  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 26, 2014, 09:09:13 PM
I would agree with those saying that we are having another bullish consolidation period before moving up above 600. It seems inevitable looking at the current formation, and given bitcoin's history!
438  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BitStamp Verification on: May 26, 2014, 09:06:19 PM
A PDF is an image file. I transmitted my documents to Bitstamp in PDF files and didn't have any problems at all. So I think as long as your files are high resolution (readable), then you should be fine sending PDFs. As always, YMMV.  Smiley
439  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can my Bitcoin be stolen on: May 26, 2014, 09:03:24 PM
I advise setting up paper wallets or other cold storage mediums so that the majority of your bitcoins are not kept on a computer that can be accessed online. Because yes, there are many hackers and the like that want to get their dirty hands on your coins! Take precautions!
440  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to safely store bitcoins? on: May 26, 2014, 09:00:30 PM
I set up a wallet.dat on my offline computer. I made copies of the wallet.dat on 3 USB drives, sent myself the bitcoin address in a text file (so I could send coins directly to cold storage), then deleted the wallet.dat from the computer. Voila! On the USB drives and nowhere else. I keep them in 3 different physical locations.
