Here's a little question. Once in a while I get e-mails from Vultr: "Our engineering team initiated a restart of the host node". Every time I need to run "forever start app.js" because the wallet is down after the node reboots. Is that right? Is there a way to make the wallet run automatically after reboot?

You may wanna look into http://supervisord.org/ if you're on linux. It's pretty straight forward to setup and works like a charm for my NEM node.

I think I'm starting to agree with you....
John keeps pushing code into github and no one has been able to prove that it doesn't work well enough to be marketable...

Is it 100% full poof?   Who know.

But then again nothing is.

The biggest moment will be ic poloniex vets the code and decides to add the new wallet with zero time. .
They have already added if with 1 confirmation which makes it the fastest coin transfer on their  engine.

Time will tell, but I bought myself some just in case.

Afaik Poloniex just makes sure they're not deploying malware. They don't actually check algos or anything. That's why Qora ran in a seperated VM when it was closed source. Running it in a VM wouldn't solve potential issues with it's implementation.

Just sayin...

And the source of that statement? You probably never talked with their owners/admins.

We, on the other side, did talk to some of them.

Source of that statement is either busoni or one of the devs of poloniex. I don't remember who exactly it was as I had contact with multiple people from Poloniex. I arranged the source review for NEM.

The wallet manager was pretty active on our IRC, and we got very positive reviews regarding the source and the updates from others.

Also we were the only coin besides Bitcoin where they allowed 1 confirmation deposits, you can imagine they don't just scan over a coins code to do that right?

I merely stated what I'm assuming is going on based on facts. If they indeed are checking algos and whatnot then so be it. Frankly I don't care.
I'll leave it up to everyone to judge how much a code review from an exchange is worth regarding it's implementation and security. I'm sure proper code audits usually cost thousands of dollars because any coder can do them.

What can't existing exchanges do that AE can do other than anonymity?

Transparency.

Not so sure about transparency. Scammers are not transparent. Exchange is a one to many scamming if it is a scam. AE is many to many. What is transparent is really apparently transparent, but in reality, acctually loses out its relevance to Scammers.

My personal opinion is that it brings in more bad than good and I personally do not support it. You can see that happening in NXT AE anyway.

How does transparancy bring out scammers ?  That sounds like an oxymoron.
I totally agree that the AEs we've seen so far are scammers paradise I just don't see how transparancy contributes to that.

Nobody talked about transparency bringing out Scammers. What I said was clearly this - "So what if it is transparent. In AE, you find scammers anyway, transparent or not."

So, basically, AE does not work, transparent or not. AE brings more bad than good with Scammers. In other words, transparency is irrelevant, even if it is there.

True transparency is like what Makoto said, KYC and a few other implementations. Other than that, it is only a transparency of transactions, which is what CFB is saying. My contention, big deal, and why need an AE?

That sentence indeed doesn't suggest you said transparancy brings in scammers.
However what I quoted did suggest it. To me at least. You didn't say anything clearly which is why I asked.

Sorry, this account confirmation link is no longer valid.
Perhaps your account is already active?

I don see myself in the user list on the new forum!
Maybe we should deal with this in one place

Thanks.

I activated your account. Just use the "forgot password" function to reset your password. Then you should be good to go.

Important Forum Announcement

Hi Everyone,

I have some news about the forum.  Patmast3r worked really hard to get us migrated, writing a script from scratch.

Is it possible to do a crowdsale on NEM? I need ability to attach a message to a bid order.

You mean like on a "traditional" AE ?
I suppose you could do a crowdsale but afaik - at least initially - there are no orders on mosaics so you'd have to announce the price then people would send you that amount with your desired message attached and you would then send them whatever it is your selling (represented by an asset). I guess these things are not what mosaics is designed for at it's core. It would prob be trivial to stick a "crowdsale script" onto the API that does the trading automatically though.
That's how I understand it at least but afaik there hasn't been any release of detailed information so take it with a grain of salt.

Has anyone reviewed PoI yet? My first feeling was that PoI would likely not work as intended but I had no time to analyze its complex construction. Maybe there is a paper that explains PoI in a reader-friendly manner.

Welcome back from the beyond.

An econ prof here in Japan is reviewing PoI now. However, for  Nakamoto consensus mechanisms to work, you need:

1) a probability distribution that everyone shares
2) that distribution cannot be arbitrarily controllable

If you have those two properties, you are safe, and PoI satisfies both.

There's also this http://nem.io/NEM_techRef.pdf with a section dedicated to POI.

i store all my passwords / keys using a password program like keepass what is however encrypted, too, with a more simple password but still hard to guess  Cheesy

So I'm guessing you can't remember all of them. Do you store them somewhere in an encrypted file ? You see at that point there's really no difference to a "wallet.dat" anymore Smiley

keep in mind popular password savers are going to be a target for hackers as they know the mother load of passwords is going to reside there. one trojan keylogger and your done.... its best to always have a secondary device to give authorization. its much harder to comprise your phone + your desktop.

KeyPass stores passwords in encrypted files not Servers so that isn't really an issue. It does prove my point though that many people still have files where they "key" is stored for brainwallets, just like they would with "wallet.dat" wallets.

Save yourself some time and ignore JBC and BigSirko. It's both Taunsew our least favourite psycho.

Patmast3r is still the organizer of NEM?   Huh

I'm just trying to migrate smf to discourse. Just helping out a bit.

If anybody is getting spammed from the forum I apologize.

We are trying to migrate and there was a glitch where many posts were flagged

are you talking about discourse ?
I got all of those since I did all the testing from my account Smiley
437  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: A World of Trust – eMunie Consensus Primer on: August 27, 2015, 06:21:56 AM
Please excuse me if this is ignorant but if there are no blocks how does one know when a tx is "confirmed" ?

How do I know there is not another tx around the corner that has an even highter consensus value that some of the trusted nodes just haven't seen yet ?

Is there a specific time that a tx needs to be on the ledger for so it can be considered confirmed ?
Is there a certain threshhold of consensus value that a tx needs before it is actually added to the ledger at which point every future tx will be disregarded ?

Transactions are not committed to the ledger until there is a majority vote on them by the currently selected and agreed group of voters.  Votes are final, so by effect consensus is too.

The ledger is append-only, so once a majority consensus between the set of voters has been reached, any conflicting transactions are simply ignored.

If a transaction is not agreed upon within 4 vote rounds (30 seconds each) from its declared timestamp it is discarded.  If it is presented after 4 vote rounds have passed since its declared timestamp, it is automatically discarded and to send those assets a new transaction would have to be recreated with a current timestamp and resulting hash.

Thanks for explaining. I must not read anymore primers before my first coffee. I hadn't even realized that there are agreed upon voters. I though trusted nodes just sign and then at some point all nodes in the network will have gotten it signed by one of their trusted nodes.

Any words Silk?

Yes I sold the coins , so as to close the balance.
Now I have only one option if I get a positive notification from the Bank (which I am really looking forward to) , there are 2 new partners who are willing to invest a large sum of money to the project when a positive decision. Other money for the project I have no.

So if the bank says no NODE is fucked ?

440  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Best altcoin to be able to handle lots of transactions? on: August 24, 2015, 11:06:21 AM
The key issue in my mind is that the coin must not be hard coded to todays tecnhnology.

The solution is a design that does not significant increase the block chain size as the transaction rate increases.

I know of no other design that solves the bandwidth scaling other than my design.

what IS your design ? Is there anything I can read or look at ? Is it already implemented ?
