421  Economy / Economics / Re: BREAKING: Greece: bank holiday on Monday & introduction capital controls ! on: June 29, 2015, 07:42:22 PM
I just got this message when I logged in to my bank account:

Does this mean that you can only transfer €60 to another Greek bank account as well, or is the €60 referring only to cash withdrawals?
422  Economy / Economics / Re: How-to Trade the FOREX Market and use/earn bitcoins doing it! Check it out :) on: June 29, 2015, 06:44:07 PM
Thanks for going to the effort of doing this. I will keep my eyes peeled for part 2.
423  Economy / Speculation / Re: Rally!!!!! on: June 29, 2015, 04:07:21 PM

just when you need 'em most.

kinda like HFT.  plenty of liquidity when you don't need it.  none when you do.

But why? Perhaps there is an obvious reason so I would appreciate it if someone could fill me in. Surely it would be a great time to do business for WU? No?

WU still has to rely on banks behind the scenes.

Do you mean if a customer came in wanting to send euros out of the country that he couldn't because of the capital controls the banks have on sending money out of the country? Ok that makes a little sense.

I expected more from it after watching trailers. In the end, while it is understandable to those who are already within the community,
to those who hear about it for the first time, this documentary will only cause confusion. Also it looks quite pro anarchistic at times.

At moments it looks like a huge pile of random facts and statements, and explanations, which i think won't have the impact i imagined it would have.
I'm wondering if the people who commented this actually watched it..

cheers

It is a bit of a fanboy documentary isn't it? But theres nothing wrong with that. There is another one due out soon that is apparently going to be more neutral. It looks good. More info here https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/bitcointheendofmoney/bitcoin-the-end-of-money-as-we-know-it

427  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If bitcoin was accepted everywhere would you use it? on: June 29, 2015, 12:40:58 PM
Well I'd buy my basic needs. Simple question needs simple answers. Also I'd buy and sell items via bitcoin. Collect rare items and pay them with bitcoins. Maybe invest in real estate using bitcoins.
Surely your government would require the purchase to be made in your local currency with regards to real estate. Sure enough you could just make a bitcoin transaction in return for the keys from the current owner but if you don't pay the taxes your government expects it wont take long before they come knocking. I don't think we own any property, it all belongs to the state, we are just responsible for the upkeep and are afforded 'quiet enjoyment' with the assistance of the police and the courts if we adhere to the states rules.

430  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If bitcoin was accepted everywhere would you use it? on: June 28, 2015, 04:37:32 PM
If i could earn bitcoin i would spend it but i wouldnt buy bitcoin with the fees or markup involved in doing so just to use it because it would be cheaper to just use fiat. Presumably there is still an option to pay in fiat at the same price. I might do it once or twice for novelty value but ultimately i am going to choose the cheaper option.
431  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: OpenBazaar founder: We aren't the next Silk Road on: June 27, 2015, 10:29:30 PM
BitBay vs Openbazaar, which will win?

Why would you compare them ? They are different, BitPay is centalized while OpenBazzar is decentralized
They will have different customer, so i think both of them will win

Are you sure? Bitbay seems to be advertising itself as a Decentralized market https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=850267.0

He said bitpay not bitbay. I think he got confused. Although this is the first I have heard about bitbay.
432  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What projects are you most excited about? on: June 26, 2015, 08:29:21 PM
3. Bitcoin: The End of Money As We Know It documentary. According to the producer Torsten Hoffman, the documentary should get approx 100M views worldwide. It will help a lot the education of mainstream users and hopefully change the bad narrative people have over bitcoin.
Good luck to that man! And thanks for sharing the video link, it put me on to the bitcoin doco and next, the rise and rise of bitcoin.

434  Economy / Gambling / Re: UK Gambling Commission says UK based sites need a license! on: June 26, 2015, 07:25:47 PM

Concerning this high activity from the commision, I doubt that it will be safe to access an unlicensed sites through a VPN as well. As there is a risk that the commission could be knocking your front door the next morning.

I think that is unlikely. Never say never though, many people got sued for downloading from Napster back in the day (in the US). In my opinion though they will go after the operators. It is a money making exercise.

I think the answer to all this is decentralisation yet again.

I've been searching 'decentralised gambling'. The most interesting one that popped up was BitFrog, which is working on decentralised poker.

I can picture a decentralised sports exchange with smart contracts grabbing information from official websites and settling with timestamps or voiding if returned false. I've no idea who's going to make it though. Some wonderful tech geek hopefully.

I'm not quite sure how decentralised casino games would work, but I can wonder. Take roulette as an example with 300 million people playing on the same table. There should be enough opposing bets to match a high percentage of bets. You might need to return partial bets if they can't all match, seems a bit of a headache. And of course you would need to make the odds fair so increase 1 number from 35/1 to 36/1, or just remove the zero from the table. Can you spin the same wheel decentralised? I have no idea. I'm just an idiot with an imagination.

We are back to 2.05 at betfair sportsbook again which is more favourable as previously described.
Today is the last day to get on board with this so anybody from the UK or ROI that wants to give it a go needs to get registered and place their bets before 9pm UK time tonight.
437  Economy / Gambling / Re: UK Gambling Commission says UK based sites need a license! on: June 26, 2015, 01:55:19 PM
what reason do the UK have for doing this?

How much do you think the UK Government rake in every year from the likes of Hills, Corals, Ladbrokes, Bet365, Paddy Power etc?
And how much will they rake in from bitcoin sportbooks  present and future?
I think that may answer your question.

Yep! It's purely so they can get their hands on their cut. No doubt they would provide a different answer if you were to ask them though.
438  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What projects are you most excited about? on: June 26, 2015, 01:46:57 PM
The Mercury project is exciting. It's a fully trustless decentralized cryptocurrency exchange that's being developed. It's only being held up by a lack of testers and the fact all the coins it will use need to implement OP_CHECKLOCKTIMEVERIFY because without it the exchange would be vulnerable to TX malleability attacks.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=946174.0

This sounds pretty impressive for something that one chap has been working on, on his loneseome!
439  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What projects are you most excited about? on: June 26, 2015, 12:51:32 PM
For me there is several , the hardware wallet CryptoLabs "Case" (the design is just epic) . Also Darkwallet which still need funding and I guess it will be available on 2016 if they get their funding (the sooner the better) Grin
OpenBazaar would be also good because there isn't a lot of shops that really accepts Bitcoins and have shitload of items like Amazon & eBay does .

I just took a look at Case, so many thanks for sharing that. This looks good. In the video they say it fits in your wallet. It looks a little too fat for me. Who knows in practice it might be ok, but it does look too chunky for your wallet at the moment. A bitcoin wallet that fits in your wallet is needed in my opinion and it is good to see that there are people trying to make this.

One thing I noticed when the lady presented how to send a transaction was that she didn't punch in an amount that you need to send. Presumably you need to do this still.

On the other hand, I think the mycelium wallet app for android can do a lot of this more conveniently.
440  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What projects are you most excited about? on: June 26, 2015, 12:35:35 PM
i need something like amazon for bitcoin, immediately so openbazar only for me, there should be an exchange counterpart, or they can integrate it in the open bazar project

i hope it will be big, and not only a niche market, like every other project for bitcoin...

the only event that is going to excite me nowadays about bitcoin like what Amph said, is if some big markets like Amazon or Ebay start accepting bitcoin.
but so far i am interested in openbazzar and what to see how that turns out.
Probably OpenBazaar providing it stays legal & doesn't go down the Silk Road route (I'm not bothered by drugs or anything like that but it bring us negative attention).
We need something respected & legit that can be used online by the mainstream, hopefully OpenBazaar that be that.

I'm interested with OpenBazaar since it's legal & using bitcoin Grin
I could use my bitcoin not only for video games & gambling Smiley

btw the proyect that im most excited is openbazaar, for me this will be the beginningof the best market ever Wink

I share your sentiments. Ebay and Amazon must be the biggest two players for e-commerce at the moment. Open Bazaar has the potential to create a whole new industry and take e-commerce with it. May I propose we call it BTCe-commerce? You heard it here first.

Also, i'm interested with BitFury to Release Light Bulbs that Mine Bitcoin in 2015
It would be cool have bulb which can mining bitcoin
