State of CarpeDiemCoin 2.0
Hey guys,
I wanted to give you all another update on what's going on with our coin. After multiple coin devs looked closely at the code it has become apparent that a simple wallet update isn't going to do what we need it to do for the long term goals we are setting for DIEM. There are flaws that will become a problem in the future and instead of putting a band aid on it we've decided to be proactive and FIX it. This unfortunately requires a full overhaul of the code and will require us to do a 1 to 1 trade in of "Old DIEM" for "New DIEM" . This is not the first time this has happened, C2 did it not too long ago and they were in much worse shape then we're in.
We have contacted the exchanges and they will facilitate the trade-in so as soon as possible everyone needs to move their DIEM to the exchanges. So far we have Poloniex, C-Cex and CryptoAltex on board. Were waiting to hear from Comkort but should be hearing from them soon.
The way this is going to work is we're going to set a deadline of Sunday May 11th to move your coins to the exchanges. At around 8pm EST the markets will be frozen while the necessary swap is made. If before the deadline we find that 95% of the coins are on deposit we will have the exchanges do the swap earlier. After that markets will be reopened, you will need to generate a new wallet address with the exchange if it's not automated by the exchange for future deposits. Other then that its back to business as usual.
Along with the trade in new wallets will be mandatory. Those will be released shortly after the trade in.
The main change we are making with this is going from an unmineable PoW coin to a PoS coin with 1% "interest" for stake holders. This will ensure our network will remain secure for many years to come. The new coin is pretty much ready to roll out, just putting finishing touches on the wallets. All the new coins will be mined on the first block shortly before the trade in and will turn to PoS at block 2.
We understand that there will be stranglers and we will do everything we can to take care of our coin holders but after the deadline it will be dealt with on a case by case basis with the devs involved. We will take requests for 1 month after the deadline and will do our best but we can't guarantee anything after the deadline hits.
Another aspect that will need to be dealt with is what to do with unclaimed coins. We will do a poll on bitcointalk. The way I see it we have 3 options, but if you have other ideas we would love to hear them.
Use them for bounties to regrow this coin into what we know it can be...ie Twitter & Reddit tip bots
Start some kind of Carpe DIEM Coin charity
Destroy them
Or a combination of the 3.
So start thinking about what you will vote for. I'll post a poll in a couple weeks. Whatever is decided will be done in the most transparent way we possibly can. I realize our team hasn't earned your trust yet but that's our #1 goal in this.
