421  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Electricity as a tool for development on: April 25, 2024, 07:50:59 AM
As far as I can remember, epileptic electric power supply has been the order of the day in my country, 24 hours constant power supply is a privilege that happens sometimes. Power outage can last for days and when light comes, it won't last for 24 hours before it's taken again, so almost every household has an electric generator that uses fuel. Different governments will come and give fake promises that there'll be constant power supply, but it's all a lie, as I'm typing now, there's no light in my neighborhood since yesterday evening, when my batteries and power banks are running low, I'll have to switch on my electric power generator that uses fuel. This has been affecting the cost of doing business for many years because you must plan on how you'll need to generate power, which is expensive, buying and servicing your generator and constantly buying fuel or diesel, plus noise pollution everywhere, it's really crazy.
422  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Have you ever been dusted!! Don't panic on: April 25, 2024, 06:58:25 AM
All you have to do is send the dust to the Genesis block address, something like 1A1zP1eP5QGefi2DMPTfTL5SLmv7DivfNa which will never move their coins or have outgoing transactions, so the attackers can have run watching a rock just sitting there.

Sure, it will cost a few sats in fees if you want the thing to be actually confirmed, but it's worth getting rid of such parasites from your wallet.
I think that sending the dust token to a genesis block should be the safest thing to do in such a scenerio when a scammer sends you the token to scam you, so that he'll meet a dead end there. Ofcourse the price for this is the transaction fees, especially as it's high now, but it's a high price to pay if you want to completely move on from the scammer's reader.
423  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why'AltCoin and related projects mostly been promoted by lower rank memebership? on: April 25, 2024, 06:05:58 AM
I don't know know if it's as a result of not being reputable projects that's why the trends in the forum is not being influenced by higher or respectable memebership ranks in the forum.
Or are the projects just manipulations of having those lower rank accounts active and introduced specifically for meme speculations?
I have a theory that if newbie accounts are shilling about some new altcoin, it's 100% scam. They are either the 5cent army funded by the developer or the developer's own desperate measure to get attention. Whatever be the reason, I don't think they are achieving anything except for some backlinks. Almost all of the members are intelligent enough to research on their own rather than believing a statement by another anonymous user.
It's a common practice here in the forum, I'll see newbies accounts that'll from their first post trying to promote a new project, with all the hype and promises that the token will make investors rich, but as usual experienced members will always counter them that it's a scam. I've even seen a new account that promoted a project on this board, and like 10 other accounts that were also created immediately began to also hype the project, the whole thing became so childish. Any genuine project that wants to promote in this forum should do the right thing, like Eloncoin.
424  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I don’t like the term “crypto” on: April 24, 2024, 06:24:58 PM
To a layman in the community where I live, they unfortunately attributes crypto to scam, maybe because of the tales of shitcoins that they've heard how it ruined people's capitals, and they'll put Bitcoin in that category because they're all cryptocurrencies. I wish that we can differentiate Bitcoin from the many scam projects because they're all called cryptos, just like we that are into the space differentiates Bitcoin, by calling others altcoins. I guess that the name "crypto" has come to stay, so we'll just have to tell the few people who cares to know about the difference between Bitcoin and the rest.
425  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: We Don dey enter halving and fee is getting higher on: April 24, 2024, 12:56:15 PM
No be lie, dis ongoing high transaction fees na serious matter for people wey wan sale dem Bitcoin, as di mempool still de congested, so di best thing na to find alternatives means to avoid di fees. Di options wey our people don bring for dis thread go work, so wen di transaction fees normalize dem we go come back to business as usual, I hope say Bitcoin developers go find a lasting solution to dis congestion wahala wey de affect di usage of Bitcoin as a digital cash. Lastly, for dis bull run, if person get oda sources of income, e no good to sale your Bitcoin now, as e go be premature selling.
426  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The rate of abandoned projects on solana on: April 24, 2024, 12:30:58 PM
Memecoins generally are pump and dump, so any investors that wants to buy any should understand that they're gambling their funds, because most of them are scams. I used to wonder why the Solana, network don't have a sort of regulatory framework to checkmate these scams and denting the reputation of their network, then I realized that Solana, is in the Blockchain business to make money, and any project that meets up the demand of their paperwork gets a pass whether they're scam or legit. Now it's left for investors to decide whether to patronize these projects or not.
427  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hal Finney wins award for his contribution to Bitcoin development! on: April 24, 2024, 11:03:08 AM
I'm happy for an award like this to recognize and celebrate exceptional individuals, whether they're dead or alive, who had worked to make Bitcoin what it is today, and a research of deserving individuals, the name Hal Finney, will surely appear. I wouldn't worry about the criteria that the organizers will use to get future awardees, I'm sure that it'll be names that we know and are deserving of the award. I don't know if there's any awards or recognition to the creator of Bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto?
428  Economy / Economics / Re: Young people are less likely to accept traditional employments in this era! on: April 24, 2024, 10:09:26 AM
I think that the main reason why this new generation don't want to do the traditional works, where they'll work from morning till evening and receive salary at the end of the week or month is that they can stay in the comfort of their homes and earn even more money online. So why sweat and get their hands dirty, when they can conveniently relax and work in a conducive environment, make their money with their smart phones or computer. If there was internet and this level of technology in the older generation, the folks then would've probably done what this new generation is doing now, so I guess they're privileged to have the internet to earn incomes from it.

I don't think that we should be worried about who will do this traditional works, because we have billions of people on earth and everybody can't work online, some will always find passion in the traditional works.
429  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Politics without political parties. on: April 24, 2024, 08:42:31 AM
I think that it depends on the type of political structure in a country, but in the modern politics, where democracy is practiced, political parties are important, where the opposition will be checkmating the excesses of the ruling party. I think that one party system will not eradicate corruption and bad leadership, because politicians will still form cliques in the one party system, so despite the system of governance that a country adopts, what matters to the masses is good leadership. One party system can breed dictatorship, where there'll be no external forces outside the party that'll call them to order if they're not doing the right thing.
430  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How possible can a forum memeber visiting foreign local board here? on: April 24, 2024, 08:04:03 AM
@OP even though there's stated the forum didn't allow to use google translator, but the reality it's allowed.

But, make sure your post is genuine, not shitposting.

Example you're a Brazilian, you travelled to Korea and you want to ask how to use Bitcoin ATMs in Korea, you're allowed to use google translator.

But if your intention is to become a fake native speaker by using google translator, it's not allowed.
Thanks for this clarification, because I've often wondered that if a forum member wants to ask a genuine crypto related question in a foreign local board, probably planing to travel to the country or is infact in the country, that the barrier of not using translator to post in foreign languages will be a disadvantage. It's good to know that there's a clause to breaking the rules of posting in a board that you can't speak and write in their local language, it's only allowed if it's an important question that perhaps concerns your crypto transaction in their country.

I've always known that this forum is very organized and the reason for breaking a rule when you post in a foreign local board  is so you not to spam their board, but exceptions to the rule is when you're asking a genuine question that you need help from the locals.
431  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why'AltCoin and related projects mostly been promoted by lower rank memebership? on: April 24, 2024, 07:18:10 AM
I used to wonder the same thing too because I've never seen where a new project is being promoted by high ranked forum members, except perhaps for a few top altcoins like Ethereum and BNB, they only contribute in discussions. Like Zaguru12, have clarified, I agree with him that reputable forum members are more focused and interested on the most reputable crypto being Bitcoin, and they don't want to dent their reputations by hyping or promoting a project that can end up being a scam. There are more scam projects than legit ones, and they keep increasing everyday
432  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is SAFE really safe ?? on: April 23, 2024, 06:53:44 PM
It has not been 72 hours since I have halved and we have not seen blocks of less than 4 Bitcoin, so it is still too early to judge the final result.
The absence of any serious security incidents since its launch in 2018 may not necessarily mean that the project is a security success, but it may mean that there is no attraction to make hackers think about hacking it.
If you mean https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/safe/, the project is dead.
Any experienced Bitcoin holder will not worry that it's not pumping yet after the halving, it's not a get rich quick scheme, so the OP and others that are expecting a miraculous surge in price will have to wait a while.

As for the SAFE project, I guess that it's safe to say that it's safety rate has greatly diminished, which unarguably means that it's dead. Maybe it's dev. team can come up with an innovative plan to resurrect it.
433  Local / Off-topic (Naija) / Re: Most Profitable Businesses in Nigeria as Side Hustle in 2024 on: April 23, 2024, 02:21:02 PM
Most Profitable Businesses in Nigeria as Side Hustle in 2024

434  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Please, I urge you to buy bitcoin! on: April 23, 2024, 01:32:18 PM
Bitcoin investment is a part to financial freedom and anybody that joins the hodl will surely reap bountifully, because it's a store of value. It's however not possible for everybody to follow these part of financial prosperity when they hodl Bitcoin, so it's left for us that have seen it as an asset that it's value will keep increasing, and those that'll see in the future what we're seeing now.
435  Economy / Economics / Re: Your aging and retirement plan is your responsibility. on: April 23, 2024, 11:48:47 AM
It's true that if you fail to plan, then you've planned to fail, therefore it's very important to plan for old age, because old age must come, unless the person unfortunately dies young, in old age you won't have the strength to work and earn money to take care of your responsibilities, without help from loved ones, the person will live a miserable life. So it's very important to have budget for your income, and try to save and have an investment, no matter how small, so you can fall back on them when you're old.

Although many people especially in underdeveloped countries where poverty is much, they don't even make enough money to feed their families, not to talk about having savings or investments, they're so impoverished that they only struggle for food to eat. In their own cases, you can't really blame them for not saving or investing for their futures, because even when they have the mindset to invest, their poverty will not let them to actualize it.
436  Economy / Speculation / Re: The Daily FUD Thread: Michael Saylor dumps his MSTR shares on: April 23, 2024, 11:00:51 AM
https://www.cnbc.com/2024/04/19/bitcoin-bull-michael-saylor-made-370-million-from-microstrategy-sales.html

So, apparently, Michael Saylor has unloaded 400k of his Microstrategy shares, which, at this point, are largely backed by BTC and could be used as a proxy for investing in Bitcoin.
What do you take of it? Was all his talk about accumulating Bitcoin forever and never selling just an act? Or was he genuine but just wanted to cash out with ~£370 millions for whatever reason?
Somehow I don't think he'll be buying bitcoins with his proceeds.

Outside of Bitcoin, It is expected that a man like Michael Saylor will have other goals that would need to be financed somehow. As long as he isn't unloading loads of bitcoin on the open market, I think we're in the green here and nothing to be concerned about. There are also no reports as to what the proceeds from the sale has been used for so it could very well be to buy more Bitcoin's just now at this prices. I'd be very surprised if that is the case because that would mean an imminent dip is coming for Bitcoin? I hope not.
I think that it's still quite early to speculate whether he's not going to reinvest it into Bitcoin, atleast I don't think that there's an official comments from him yet, it could be that he wants to use the money for other things that would be profitable to him or to offset some huge bills. I don't believe when someone tells me that they're never going to cash out some of their investments at some point, because you cannot keep accumulating indefinitely without taking something sometimes, that's the essence of investments.
437  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Trading campaigns helps level up trading for traders on: April 23, 2024, 10:16:54 AM
So, even if traders incur losses, the prospect of earning substantial rewards can motivate them to keep trading.

But risks should be taken into account as well. For instance, they could end up burning a lot of money and not getting the reward they want or at least the same value of the funds burned. But hm, I think most people in the forum are not whale enough for such contest.
Trading campaigns are not for every traders, newbie traders, inexperienced traders and traders without sufficient trading funds will likely not win in these competitions, they'll end up over trading and burning out their limited trading capital. Whale traders and experienced traders are the most suitable contestants to win these competitions because they have the money and skills to go far and win. Just like the casino owners, the trading competition organizers are not charity organizations, they're into business to make profit, and the more competitor's means more fees and popularity, so as they're rewarding winners, they're also gaining.
438  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Risks to take in marriage on: April 23, 2024, 08:22:37 AM
Marriage is something you need to know before you get to it and you need to understand that your life will never be the same when you will marry the girl you love because when that happens, you gonna do everything to make her happy and comfortable.
The risk in marriage is getting married to the wrong person, most people nowadays get married for the wrong purpose not love, is either because of money, beauty and so on. Which it will come to a time when those things might not be what you need anymore. Marriage is a beautiful thing, one just have to choose his or her partner wisely, because marriage comes with a lot of responsibilities, one just have to be prepared all round.
The biggest mistake that anybody can make is marrying the wrong person, the kind of spouse you have will go a long way to determine your happiness or sorrow, so it's very important to know the kinds of qualities that you want in a marriage, although it's not possible to get a perfect partner but let the person poses some important qualities that you need. I don't think that reasonable person will go into marriage with the intention of divorcing their partner, but unfortunately the rate of divorce in our societies is on the increase now, couples no longer tolerate each other's shortcomings, and very little matter that can easily be resolved will lead to divorce.

Couples with children needs to consider the innocent children that they brought into this world before considering divorce, because these will not experience the joy of being raised by loving parents. Inasmuch as I don't endorse divorce, a partner is better of alone than remaining in a toxic relationship.
439  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is merit all about? on: April 23, 2024, 07:42:36 AM
Greeting everyone. I was newly introduced into the system by a friend who made me to have so much interest in the system with the zeal and the passion to learn and gain adequate experience on the system but one of the major problem I'm having now is that I'm not well clarify of what merit entails and as such I will be very grateful if any good minded person can kindly throw more light on that to enable me understand in details and also benefit from the system.
A piece of advise I strongly suggest you will be needing to keep you going progressively on the forum, which is, don't go chasing for merits as that will be the wrong way to go. Rather, go for knowledge, learn and add to the little I believe you already know and heard about cryptocurrency  as a newbie. Your growth in the forum is in how much of a beneficial knowledge you can give/contribute to the community. That's the secret of how merit are attracted which in extension is the purpose of the meriting system.

You will want to read this below:
Newbies read before posting
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1689727.0

This is a good advice to the newbie, some newbies join this forum because they've heard that ranked up members earn BTC rewards in signature campaigns, and to be eligible you'll need to get enough merits to rank up. When they join and the merit is not coming their way as fast as they'd expected, they'll become very frustrated and their morale will become low to continue in the forum. It's best to join the forum as a newbie, with the intention to learn about Bitcoin and the crypto space, gain knowledge and theoretical experience on it's investment and trading, that will be more beneficial in their crypto journey.

Let getting merit to be a secondary desire for any newbie in the forum, when they've increased their crypto knowledge and begin to manifest it in quality posts, other forum members will notice the posts and some will reward it with merit.
440  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto Bull Run Approaching: Projects to Watch Besides ETH on: April 23, 2024, 06:43:44 AM
Halving has opened the door for cryptos to bull in this season, and you've mentioned the top three to look out for, being Bitcoin, Ethereum and Solana, and ofcourse other top altcoins, we're expecting these projects to reach reasonable ATH in this bull run. It's also a time to explore smaller gems like you called them, and there are a lot of them that you'd be confused on the one to choose from the pack, that is where researching and getting recommendations for legit projects that can bull and give ROI in this season. I hope that you've diligently researched this ATOR project, if they have a good team, like the other contributors have suggested, then the project can gain reputation and fullfil it's use case.
