Wanna bet? I have a very hard time imagining even $5 coins. 10 BTC escrowed bet that the price won't reach $4 within the next 6 months? That's easy. (No I won't bet though) If you consider the possibility that all three ASIC mining companies turn out to be scams there is even a straight-forward explanation for such a scenario. In that case even sub-dollar prices might be possible. If they deliver I don't think we will go below ~5 however. You may be right but the logic behind this is beyond me. But more price swings have disagreed with my reasoning I have to admit.

Still wanna wait for monday?

BFL is not that retarded to hold onto BTC for pre-orders.
It's actually bit-pay which takes care of that kind of business and the merchant just receives the hard $. There's an option with bit-pay to get paid in btc but I doubt that butterfly labs does that.

I dont know what the market is gonna do next, but I think we certainly should go up over the next weeks. We cant go much lower anyway, maybe to 11.20$, but not below 10.50$ according to my analysis (10$ is SUCH a strong support, something really bad would have to happen for it to break). Looking back at the past days, 11.5$ to 12$ was a pretty good trading range, if you were lucky/daring enough to use it. So I just bought in at 11.50$ and am looking to sell at 12$. Waiting for it to hold above 12$ or make a voluminous break through at least before buying back eventually.
If we go below 11.40$ (past short term bottom) however, I shall try to get out and back in cheaper.
I agree with you but on the other hand we've been going down for some time now and I'm hoping for some good ol' fashioned panicking before we go back up.

These spikes could be the result of bit4x hedging..

Have the guy who wrote BitcoinJ make a proposal. He works for Google after all.
Although, they probably only accept a FOREX clearinghouse exchange rate. A little birdy told me that a clearinghouse in Hong Kong is working on that. So when that happens, Bitcoin will likely be on Google.
This little birdy? https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=115900.msg1252942#msg1252942

Hi Jim,
I'm considering using multibit as my main bitcoin client now, as the satoshi client is simply becoming too slow for me. I have two small suggestions: - scrolling up and down using my mouse wheel in the settings panel goes very slow - show the QR codes by default and allow the user to hide them (I didn't understand the green + and there is enough room anyway) Also, the graphs don't work on my computer. The menu becomes a bit unresponsive when I click on the option.
Thanks for all your work on mutltibit!

Are you really a bear -- that is you have 0 BTC holdings or even are short?
Well almost, I think there is a loose bitcoin on my mtgox account. I got burned by bitcoinica and never really recuperated. I am not really a bear by my own terms, but am known for my bearish statements which I just consider sane evaluations of the situation. Concretely, I think mid single digits are more likely than new all time highs during the coming months, but we will get there eventually, it will just take longer than expected. Might call it mid term bear - long time bull. Well, at least you'll be able to tell people that "you were there" when bitcoin really takes off.

Very little response from the bids. Some people chickened out but we're going back down.
Wow, you must be short!

I reported the previous thread as "annoying FUD" to the forum staff just as I am reporting this one, as it belongs to the meta forum. The ties of bitinstant with bitcoincard and neft are well known and have been mentioned in the neft thread.

What is wrong with these people, all signs are pointing to down, but they buy anyway.
We're not in a bear market anymore. Get used to it

Good interview, do you know when it has been done?
Nope.. just found it on reddit so I tagged it as today. They mention the price being at $11.30 somewhere during the interview.

Considering that I still feel reserved about the current rally and we're already at $12.50, I think it will actually go higher than the previous top. I felt the same way around $6.50 during the previous upswing.
What really bothers me though is the Pirate factor. I agree. There's still a slight chance that he strikes back. I've had this crazy theory for a while now. Remember his posturing on IRC from a while back? I suspect that it may have been a trial to see to what extent the market responds to what he says. He slammed the market down when it went into panic buying. Then it slowly came crawling back up and he smashed it down again. Assuming he's not an idiot, he probably profited big time from that move. My theory that this time the game is on and he's going to actually start paying out which causes the market to drop big time.

I can't find them right now but they do publicize some numbers in their quarterly reports.

I get the feeling the OP started this thread just to spur some discussion so that the thread's title will have a prominent place on the main forum, possibly to scare away newcomers.

There are a lot of flaws with bitcoins, and it pioneered cryptocurrency. But do we still dial up to BBSes today? Use gopher? No, it has being replaced by the world wide web. Bitcoins will be replaced, don't put your life savings in.

I'd like to see a list of those 1000+ merchants though (so I can support them). I've asked for it before but they seem to be hesitant to give it out.

can a teraflop supercomputer be configured to crunch integer operations?
Sure, you can think of an integer as being a float with only zeroes behind the decimal point.
