421  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Slow block times.... on: January 08, 2016, 06:54:13 AM
40 minutes and counting on this one...  Undecided
422  Economy / Speculation / Re: Automated posting on: January 08, 2016, 05:54:38 AM

Dat's a lot of blocks.   Shocked Shocked Shocked

In case anyone is wondering about the new bits, white squares are blocks, red squares are blocks >990000 bytes, black empty squares are 1-transaction blocks. The green goo now represents average fullness not including 1 transaction blocks, the red line is inclusive of 1 transaction blocks.

Chartbuddy widget progressing along nicely. Thanks Richy_T

424  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is Gavin "The Financial Crisis Is Over" Andresen correct, compromised, or crazy? on: January 08, 2016, 05:02:37 AM

Are you talking about BIP000?  If so, I disagee the 'don't fix what isn't broken' proposal is a "similarly bad one."

And we've already seen how 101 shook out, IE completely failed at everything except crashing the price for a few months.

425  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin risky? It actually feels very, very safe to own Bitcoin right now :) on: January 08, 2016, 04:52:23 AM
First of all, please learn some basic English. The language in this thread is so terrible that I need to guess half of the time what you want to say.
-snip-

To whom are you try responding?

426  Economy / Speculation / Re: Fiat Collapsing. Gold/Silver/Bitcoin UP. on: January 08, 2016, 03:41:57 AM
And then we've got this coiling cobra here...

A whole 79 BTC protecting it from new lows.  Shocked    Grin

Cry  It's at least slightly horrible how some of you resorted to immediately attacking Gavin's character and motives, then "sensorships"   Cry

[whining intensifies]

I'm attacking Gavin's ridiculous "The Financial Crisis Is Over" premise and his ridiculous 'broadband rollout coming Because NFLX' conclusion.

It's not "horrible" to explore the most likely reasons for that perfect shitstorm of demonstrated economic illiteracy and technical incompetence.

You know I'm not lock step with BIP101, never have been, but to meet a bad proposal with a similarly bad one on the other end of the spectrum isn't fantastic either.

And as you've stated before, this is the crucible of internet nerd drama, we shall see how it all shakes out.
428  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is Gavin "The Financial Crisis Is Over" Andresen correct, compromised, or crazy? on: January 08, 2016, 02:58:34 AM
It's at least slightly horrible how some of you resorted to immediately attacking Gavin's character and motives, then "sensorships", then ddos. He'd been a pretty forthright shepherd of the repo for quite a while, handed the keys from satoshi himself, and it was right off to the woodchipper when he had an honest philosophical difference of opinion with the blockstream guys.

jtoomim's survey pretty much told you all you need to know. It's only a matter of time until miners realize that their competition for fees is centrally planning their future profits away.

It's also silly that you accuse gavin and others of being compromised and pushing ulterior motives... while letting the question of blockstream's motives flow gracefully over your mind like a calm sea. Why? because gmaxwell dazzles with technical delight? He certainly does do that. Because adam just comes across as a nice guy? (he really does, and probably is Smiley)

61% or so nodes are not running the latest core release. Segwit through softfork will leave how much of the node network in a sort of SPV+ mode? Controversial? sure. Hard fork? no, so safety.

And as we have decided to dispense with the pleasantries... I'll finish with a quote from the appreciation thread:
A heartfelt thanks to the investors in Blockstream™, led by Reid Hoffman, Khosla Ventures and Real Ventures, with investments from Nicolas Berggruen, Crypto Currency Partners, Future\Perfect Ventures, Danny Hillis, Eric Schmidt’s Innovation Endeavors, Max Levchin, Mosaic Ventures, Ray Ozzie, Ribbit Capital, Jerry Yang’s AME Cloud Ventures and several others. Your goals are our goals.

China "success" story has been developed for quite a few months now. It would be churlish to give away what happens next, but it’s clear that we're heading for glory within the cryptoland.... Roll Eyes

Hop on in panicking global economy! We've been diligently planning and adding capacity to accommodate you for years.  Roll Eyes

431  Economy / Speculation / Re: rpietila Wall Observer - the Quality TA Thread ;) on: January 07, 2016, 07:18:30 AM
Holding a coin doesnt raise its value.. Thats why 42coin is worthless.. Velocity does though in accordance with supply

You are wrong.
42 coin is a coin that do not have a community that wants to hold it. The number of coins is irrelevant, the only relevant thing is how many coins are hoarded and holded. Not the number of coins. Even doge will rise in value if it is considered something that everybody wants to hold it for some reason.

Cat puke would rise in value if it is considered something that everybody wants to hold it for some reason.

Dropt was right, there goes the $1 mil  Cheesy
433  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 07, 2016, 04:25:01 AM
Speaking of borrowing money, almost $1 mil opened on finex to fuel that bullgasm.

Funny how okcoin had to kill the volumizer when things started going.

-snip- ...  sharing bullshit quasi-irrelevant thread space fillers?

Hahahahahaha...

It seems that you are trying to say something about either the space and/or the relevancy of my posts?  Helrow?  go on, say it.  Don't be shy.    Tongue

Maybe he is worried about there not being enough space left in the thread, which I don't know if I agree with. This thread is 14525 pages already so there doesn't seem to be a problem if we write a lot of crap. But maybe he is worried that we spend too much time on this thread. He always seems to write quite short posts where he gets right to the point, maybe that's because he worries about bloat in the thread. If you look at BlindMayorBitcorn you can see that his post, which was kind of a response to Cconvert2G36s post you I THINK you will find he answered quite brief. But why? BlindMayorBitcorn can write pretty long stuff but he can also write short stuff. I THINK both of them worry too much about bloat in the thread, but BMB can post a lot of silly stuff so he can't be too worried about it I THINK. But maybe he's just an asshole who doesn't give a damn and just pretends to care about bloat in the thread. Who knows? Perhaps they know of someone who wants to put this whole thread on the blockchain and cause bloat there, that would be really unnecessary if that were true. That would be really stupid I THINK. Honestly, I THINK it's very unnecessary of them to bother you about this stuff just because someone maybe will put the thread on the blockchain. It's not like there's a warning telling us that this would happen. It really sounds like a dumb idea. Then again, maybe they just agree with you with regards to Aztecminer. I THINK it's difficult to tell from that gif. Aztecminer can write a lot of weird stuff you regret reading, he can also be quite repetitive. On the other hand, I THINK he can be quite amusing at times, intentionally or not, he seems to have some mind-blowing ideas about just about everything, the question is really if his mind is already blown. But I THINK that's his own business and nobody else's. Just like that dancer dude you have as an avatar and which your many many many words never have touched. Speaking of repetitive, look at BJA, I mean... that guy is repetitive. We've all heard that he's upset about the block size and all, but... give me a break. On the other hand I THINK all he probably wants to do is his bit to get this thing resolved. He writes quite a lot about it, maybe he wants to intentionally bloat the blockchain to push the issue that way. If that is true then I THINK that's not ok at all. He really shouldn't create a bad situation by creating bloat. Then again we don't know if this thread will ever get on the blockchain. Who knows? But his point about "paying for blockspace" can be relevant if this thread is going on the blockchain. Do we pay rent there then? Do I have to pay? This is a question we really should look into. On the other hand, I THINK he might have been full of shit... but that doesn't mean he wasn't on to something. There are other people here who use up a lot of thread space with pictures. Especially Peonminer and Adam. I guess it's not that bad if it's only the links that will be included on the blockchain. But if all the pictures are to be stored on the blockchain then I think that's a real problem. Most of those pictures are larger than your posts, if we're talking raw data. I THINK it would make little sense to upload the thread on the blockchain without the pictures. They provide a lot of context and at times they're kind of the bread and butter of this thread. Can you imagine someone trying to read this in five thousand years and not get to see any of the pictures? It would be completely nonsensical. Anyhew, I can't really understand what all this is about. It's really difficult to know exactly what Cconvert2G36 was getting at. There is so little information in his puny little excuse of a post that it just makes me mad. Not real mad, just a little bit. There seems to be some insinuation that you yourself can be contributing to "bullshit quasi-irrelevant thread space fillers" in a way that dwarfs any effort on Aztecs side, but I THINK that's something each and every one of us will have to decide for OURSELVES.

+1

The micro sale is ending.

IKR, the volume at $6 below yesterday's price is really reassuring.

U guise!

I get that Brock is kinda icky, I agree, but Bruce has taken some pretty serious shit slinging here. Not altogether warranted, I think.

The foundation may be a dead end, I know I won't be sending funds over, but the main people to blame seem to have left the building or are not here to bear the brunt of your wrath.
439  Economy / Speculation / Re: Mega Miners, these last two years on: January 06, 2016, 03:59:59 AM
This gen of asic might run longer than the last two? People seem to be building out their farms for the 12.5 btc era right now. Some of the older gear will turn off for the halving but it will be outpaced by new gear coming on. Ramping the difficulty all at once has a habit of deterring competition (especially from the small guys), which means greater profitability during the lifetime of the hardware (optimistically 3 years).

Expect more of this stuff:
https://megabigpower.com/index
Provide financing to fill out a current warehouse, or if you have a space, they'll provide and install the hardware, you split revenue 50:50.

Short term things are fine, long term's a little more dicey. I see 4 major options.

1. Block size and number of tx raises, continuing the low cost value transfer attribute of today. Miners chose appropriate block sizes to maximize profit along their demand and supply curves.

2. Relatively the same amount of hodlers as exist today are fine with $3-7 fees per tx. Former payment users are (partially?) replaced by digital-goldbugs. Bitcoin stays around the same size in terms of market cap, maybe grow some or shrink some, nothing fatal.

3. Payment channels emerge from vapor stage, the added complexity and need of opening channels by locking up some btc isn't an impediment to network growth... Large fees are paid when these scripted arrangements are settled to the blockchain. Although LN is open source and free... Blockstream is added to the s&p 500 somehow.

4. (3.) doesn't really work. Former users of btc migrate to competing options, some hodlers tuck away the private keys and hope for the best, some muck (or have mucked) their hands and move(d) on.

I think few thousand is better. Then sit tight for a few years and pray.

If everyone does that it would be at zero.... Trading, buying, selling, spending is necessary for success, if everyone just bought a few thousand back and did nothing except sit on them they would at some point become worthless....

Monero will not become worthless if everybody holds.
Actually quite the opposite.
Think about a scenario that someone buys 10 000 000 Moneros and simply sits on them and does nothing? What would happen to the price if there are only 500 000 Moneros available for everyday use and circulation while the majority of the coins just stand still in the vaults of hodlers.

well obviously if someone buys all the monero it will be harder for me to buy one, but the problem is that Monero has to sound better to me the investor of crypto currency than litecoin, ripple, dogecoin, dash, et cetera. Since i don't believe any coin has a true technological advantage, I would only pick Monero because I either know some information about your whale scenario coming, or I would wait for some confirmation that Monero has momentum where EVERY other Alt has failed to gain any. Monero may live forever, but so might Franko.....

Monero: limited issuance + immune from sensorships = sure to subsume all financial value worldwide  Cool
