Hertha BSC is off to a very bad early phase of the 2. Bundesliga. It is hard to imagine that not too long ago hundreds and hundreds of millions have been raised from an investor to get the team to a new level and achieve new heights, and now they are facing Hamburg in a game away on match day 3 with 0 points from the first two games so far. I can smell that this will not be a very funny season for them. That's the weird thing though, they have won the latest one, and suddenly they are bad? Think about it, they were the winners of euro 2020, and then they were not even in world cup. How many times did that happen before? Maybe it has happened before and I am just not aware of it, but to me that looks like an unlikely situation.
The fact that France couldn't win 2020 euro and Italy did was a big shocking result. This is why I am not entirely sure about what's going to happen next, it could be something decent or it could be nothing at all, in the end I feel like maybe another big shocker could happen again as well. The arrival of Ousmane Dembélé from Barcelona can add value to PSG's attacking power this season. Luis Enrique can use this player to support his plans in various competitions, so he should be able to make a positive impact on the likelihood of success instead of failing miserably. Currently there is too much news that is indeed confusing about this player and even we also often see news that contradicts Mbappe which makes it confusing which is true and which just wants to fish for sensation. I won't blame bowlers, there wasn't much expectation from them but they performed really well and restricted Windies batters in every match, all pitches were belter so they did a fairly decent job.
They did restrict them well in some matches, but they performed badly in some other matches like the last match where a pro like Chahal ended up giving away 50+ runs against the Windies. Kuldeep was the only one who consistently delivered throughout this series in my opinion. They did in the first 4 matches. The Windies scorelines were below par in all matches despite the batting track but in the first 2 matches Indian lost the plot with their batting, not bowling. Chahal performed exceptionally well in the first 2 matches and did a satisfactory job in 3rd and 4th. Yeah, Windies took him to a cleaner in the last encounter but it does happen sometimes and every bowler is allowed to have an off day.
Chahal was pathetic during this series. He was smashed all over the park by West Indian batsmen.

Pakistan has this habit of losing knockout matches after performing so well in the group phase. Remember what happened during Asia Cup 2022? They performed really well initially, but in the end lost to an out of form Sri Lankan side (Pakistan initially lost to India in the group phase, but defeated them during Super-4). Nice to see that they are preparing well for the tournament. And Afghanistan is a team that is constantly improving (despite all the internal issues, such as a freeze on funding from the ICC).

It was good to watch Chelsea-Liverpool in the first match of the season. Although it was important for both teams to start the season with such a match, it was also a match that revealed their own situation. Chelsea played the better game at home but struggled to get the win against Liverpool. Chelsea seem to have recovered under Pochettino but I think it will take another 5-6 weeks to be sure.
The most goal-scoring match of the first week of the season was Newcastle-Aston Villa. Both teams had plenty of scoring chances, but Newcastle was the team that made better use of the positions and scored the goals. With 17 shots and 13 hits, Newcastle had a good game.
@execijutiere to be honest I was expecting Liverpool to defeat Chelsea but Chelsea surprised me with their resilience and with more incomings they can definitely become even better then what we just saw. Lastly Manchester United were terrible in yesterday’s game and I feel that Ten Hag is making a mistake by not playing Donny because he was looking terrific in preseason and he can definitely improve this team. |
