4201  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: XMR futures/options OTC thread on: August 29, 2014, 12:43:45 PM
The reason why the rate was significant is that the contract size is quoted in quote currency. So the right to buy 1000 XMR at 0.02 BTC/XMR is a contract for 1000 XMR, but the right to sell 1000 current XMR's worth of BTC at 50 XMR/BTC is a contract only for 225 XMR. Hence the difference. The currency does not matter.

Hah. The sell orders fail the statistical randomness test big time. They are way too uniformly distributed to be a product of a random process.

Perhaps they are not, and ALL belong to the only holder that provably exists - the 82% fat bag.
4203  Economy / Speculation / Re: rpietila Wall Observer - the Quality TA Thread ;) on: August 29, 2014, 10:50:27 AM
What does the fair price line in that graph represent?

Estimated daily USD transaction volume (in USD) divided by 200000, which is the scaling factor that empirically fits best.

This is somehow like saying that a coin is worth about 0.0005% the total amount of coins exchanged every day.

Why that magic number? I don't know. Something about a balance between hoarding and spending habits of people: habits that are probably going to change over time, thus invalidating this graph. But to me it still holds at present. Which means we are slowly and painfully going to see 400s, maybe even 300s before reversal.

On a personal note I can't be bothered with trading right now. The swings won't be fast and I am not a patient man. Leaving most of my net worth in fiat for months on a bitcoin exchange, waiting for the bitcoin winter to end time to buy back lower, is more uncomfortable than having my coins sitting on my own cold storage.

"Eating ice cream causes drowning." (<- in Finland, it is only possible to swim, and thus, drown, when it is very hot; this coincides with ice cream consumption).

Low transaction volume currently shows that most Bitcoin owners are content with the state of the most important reason why they have bought Bitcoin, namely value preservation. Surely there is high correlation between transaction volume and price, but an even higher correlation exists with value preservation and price.

Wink

LOL I tried reversing the base/quote currency and making the same options on apparent BTC volatility vis-a-vis XMR... (such as the 0.0040 CALL became 250 PUT).

...the black-scholes formula just broke up. LOL. All options got totally different values even though they are the same.

Let this just be a warning that you don't start issuing the options without actual knowledge on the subject (XMR/BTC = BTC/XMR rate). Any experience from back office does not count when it is entirely up to you which one you should regard as base  Grin

EDIT: Blame was on me. A glitch on my formula gave wrong results. The results at the strike price at expiration were identical. First I got fooled by the glitch, and then it took some time to correct for the change in the rate. Well... you may continue writing options then!  Grin

A coin does not need to have any "features". Since when did gold have features?
4206  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: rpietila Altcoin Observer on: August 29, 2014, 09:24:29 AM
I market bought 2100 XMR for a client. I don't by any way mean it's much, but seriously I can only make one phone call per day, to one of my best investor friends, to avoid the price rising too quickly.

The total wealth reachable by my mailing list is 100s of millions. Last time I bothered them was when I told that "Bitcoin is something that you should buy now, even without research, even with small money, as long as it is now". 2013-2-6.

If we consider the zones where a large number of coins have traded as resistance zones (going upward), the by far largest one is in between 250-450. 60%+ of all trade ever has been conducted in this zone.

We have now hit the upper end of the zone. It is too early to say if the breakout will succeed - I actually give it less than 50% chances for today. But same as the infamous 420 level that was tried for 5 times, it finally fell (only in a few days), same will happen with this one, if the trend stays in force.

When 450 falls convincingly, the trade density drops to 1/3, which should mean that it takes approximately 1/3 of the time to advance from 450->550, compared to what it took from 350->450.

At 580 there is the strong resistance of the previous top. After clearing it, there is not much on our way.

The ATH double-top in 0.01-0.011 will in my opinion NOT serve as a STRONG resistance, due to the small amount of coins traded there last times, and the completely different fundamentals now (both adoption and number of coins have multiplied since then).

Take advantage of the 2x-2.5x leverage offered by options (calculated as %change of option price / %change of XMR price).

Please stop whining. My resourcing is very tight and right now I am stuck doing this myself, which was not the intention. And I hate it. But trying to find a third person to do it and teach her would be even more of a chore. Telling this makes you'all feeling even worse, so I tried to not emphasize it. But what if we just leave the issue of apparent delays behind for good, and concentrate on what we have. I hope sgbett has emailed or linked you the orange numbers. If not, they are also as code below:

4209  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: XMR futures/options OTC thread on: August 29, 2014, 08:15:31 AM
Now we have seen a rally from 418 to 450 in less than a day. In terms of the underlying (XMR), the move is 7.65%. The options have moved up to 17.5%. The real boon is when the volatility needs to be adjusted up, because it lifts the values of CALLs and PUTs alike. The start of a definite uptrend is at hand when we clear the resistance zone of 400-450 and the resistance level at 580.

He must have enough money that it does not matter, he does not want to assume any risk whatsoever.

The risk of not holding monero is infinitely bigger than that of holding it.

With not holding, you can lose a sum equal to 1000x your net worth.

With holding, you can maximum lose the amount invested.
4211  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Unveiling the truth over the major Monero scam on: August 29, 2014, 06:05:26 AM
There's currently 8 different Monero threads on the main alt page.

You know, there are 10000 threads about Bitcoin. Oh yes, Bitcoin is the #1 coin currently. Perhaps it is justified.

That Monero constantly occupied like 20% of the alt section , is a great testimony to the importance of the coin. There is just nothing to be said concerning the others. At least I couldn't make me interested in (insert_coin_name_here) for 5 minutes, even if I got paid.

I think the guys who buy October calls with a break even at 3x the market price are not stupid. However I got paid cash (XMR).

The constant shilling and hatred is ridiculous, and I advocate against the dev team even replying to it anymore (let the community do it). But it does serve the purpose to bump the threads and make them "interesting" (for those who regard Der Alte interesting, that is..)
4212  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Unveiling the truth over the major Monero scam on: August 28, 2014, 04:51:14 PM
If I may propose that the developers reply a little less to these endlessly repeated same, yet fallacious, arguments, and concentrate a little more in the advances in the Monero ecosystem, such as the first ever options markets on any alt/BTC rate.
4213  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: XMR futures/options OTC thread on: August 28, 2014, 04:38:52 PM
rpietila I am a little unsure exactly how this works, I also think everyone would benefit if we take my CALL as an example and explain it, what happens if my call is correct?

You have purchased the right to buy 5000 XMR at a fixed price BTC0.01 regardless of market price. It is valid until September 30th.

- So if the market price never goes that high, the right to buy higher is obviously worth nothing.

- If it at any time goes above that price, you may decide to exercise the option, just sending BTC50 to my escrow agent, and get 5000 XMR in return.

- You can also offer to exercise it as a CFD, meaning that if the price is for example 0.02 in Poloniex, you don't need to send BTC50 to get half-price coins. Rather we just send you the BTC50, or 2500 XMR, as profit.

- Now as I am offering buybacks, it is practically always better to sell the option back to me rather than exercise or CFD it. The buyback price is higher because the option still has time value.

I don't want to monopolize anything. You are free to spend about 2 hours of your time with Excel and replicate a more competitive options portfolio, and offer it here. My open interest is already 5000 XMR, but that is not too much of network effect yet that you would be totally out of business (especially if your prices are better).

I think 260% implied is quite reasonable if the historical was 229% calculated from weighted averages. And puts even cheaper.  Smiley

"Buyback" is only to allow closing of a position, correct? Grin

There is a reason why it is called buyBACK.
4216  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: XMR futures/options OTC thread on: August 28, 2014, 04:09:35 PM
I can't even describe how profound this is what we are doing! A competitive market of options issuers for a coin that has only $6M marketcap!

Something has to give. Soon  Cool Grin

What escrow are you using?

After thinking about it some more, I'd like to offer up to 5 Contracts, calls only, .01 strike or higher only, 10% discount to Risto's current price (if we come up with a mechanism to have up to date prices, if not, we'd have to work something else out).

David Latapie. How about you?

How much would it cost to have a real time options exchange with writing privileges for those who have escrowed their position?

I think despite the discount, many would currently still buy from me because I am such a nice guy, everything works smoothly and I offer buyback. Tell me if you get any customers!  Wink
4218  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: XMR futures/options OTC thread on: August 28, 2014, 03:56:49 PM
Risto, are you able to calculate actual historical volatility from your dataset of historical trading prices of poloniex, or could someone point me to a source?  Poloniex only seemed to provide more recent trade data, and I don't know how to convert the graph information into data.

I ran a quick calculation based on the exhange history (the very beginnings at OTC omitted). The average of ABS(daily vwap change) was 11.97%, and since the number of trading days per year is 365, the annual volatility is 229%. Am I correct?

The using of vwap's, instead of closes, smoothens the ride, but that was all the data I had. For example the latest rally top was 0.00580, yet the vwap of the day was only 0.00505 (top was 14.9% higher).

It may be that 400%+ implied volatility is a bit steep, but let's leave it to the market. If somebody wants to write at 200%, I will be a buyer Smiley

Like I told earlier, the puts are cheap. But this is based on my own calculations about support levels, trendlines and such, which almost totally disregard the event of price dropping 50% in any timeframe, whereas the price rising 100% is a near certainty based on the fundamentals, and only a question of time. The PUT-CALL disparity will hold at least in my pricing, and you are free to punish me however you see fit (luigi1111!).

We already have 5000 XMR open interest, so perhaps I will continue and recalculate the prices for these options and add some 2-month ones as well.

I think volatility for BS is standard deviation of daily change * sqrt of number of days.  See this link, which also has a model you can use.  http://adamhgrimes.com/blog/how-do-you-calculate-volatility-in-excel/

Incidentally, I compared your calculation against that calculation, and yours came out much lower.  So it may be that your 400% is entirely justified by history, let alone potential future moves for a microcap beta cryptocurrency.

Anyway now I have the numbers out. They are calculated with B-S. The imp vol is shown. It is now possible to get 30x leverage by betting that the price will go up more than 5x in a month. I am fully aware that I may be selling these at a -EV but I am not gambling. I have the XMR to cover everything I sell, and perhaps I'd be happy myself if the event indeed materialized Smiley

Does anyone know someone who sold a large amount of silver at the top of the silver bubble and put that money in to Bitcoin?

4220  Bitcoin / Meetups / 2014 Malla Autumn Retreat, Estonia (Sept 23-28) on: August 28, 2014, 03:52:19 PM
Important: the event is shortened to 6 days (from previous 10).

BOOKINGS ARE NOW ACCEPTED VIA PM TO ME.

I have a great privilege to invite you all to Malla Autumn Retreat, the premier opportunity to experience The Bitcoin Castle and the beautiful Estonian ruska-zeit.

The event length is 6 days to make it easier for you to arrange flights and stuff. You only pay per night, so feel free to join us for any time you wish, to taste the "perpetual conference" atmosphere that is breaking forth in the place! This is the unique opportunity to combine leisure with intrigue, business with indulgence, and spice it up with travels to St. Petersburg, Helsinki, Tallinn, and rural Estonia.

The Bitcoin Castle is developing. We have recently constructed 4 new hotel rooms in the outbuildings and set up a kitchen and breakfast/dinner hall in the Manor + the new Cigar cabinet.

Until this September event, we will have claimed 400 square meters from the main building, with a renovated entrance and front double staircase, furnished lobby, restaurant with a kitchen, cloakroom and cigar room, curtains, panelling, heating and a toilet. It may sound humble but they are very needed improvements, what everybody who's actually been there can readily confirm.

Our regular capacity is 20 guests at a time. In addition many of the staff are participating the conference and overflow rooms can be arranged.

Romantic Doubles have a king-size bed, tiled floors throughout, massive wood furniture, in-room jacuzzi, and separate bathroom. Business Twins have 2*90cm bed, parquet flooring and a nice tiled bath. Premium Rooms also have privileged service in our concierge etc.

Standard Double/Twin rooms are in the upstairs of the wooden house. They are not large, but will undergo a renovation that completes just before this event. Shared bath is in the same floor.

"Bed only" room class is in our Dormitory, which is mostly suitable for short-term stay. Shared bath, jacuzzi and sauna right next to the room.

Pricing is dynamic according to the demand. Currently we offer very low prices to get the reservations going, and later on the capacity will be allocated to the highest bidder. Note that reservations are to be paid instantly, and are non-refundable. All prices are shown below in BTC.
