4201  Other / Meta / Re: What did theymos do with 200K? on: March 15, 2015, 01:25:22 AM
He was most likely using those funds to pay slickage, the company that is designing the new forum.

That was my first guess. But 200K for a website? Holy Crap, this is going to be amazing  Shocked

Well they have been in development for several months so we can expect something good. My hopes are high.

It should be very good !

Slikage twitter : https://twitter.com/slickage

That's true. Not many people have Twitter accounts.
4202  Other / Off-topic / Re: If BTC goes to $1000 or more, what would you do? on: March 14, 2015, 01:28:36 PM
Hi all,

how long do you think it will need to get to 1.000?
Months or years?

In my opinion 1-2 years, just would like to know your opinions

The rapid increase to $1k was artificial last time. That artificial increase is not likely to happen again. We will need a massive influx of new buyers (users) for that to happen again and it will be a slow process. I would say many years before seeing that again but the good news is the price should be stable when it happens next time.
4203  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Regulation The End For Bitcoin? on: March 14, 2015, 01:11:20 PM
The U.S. government already regulates Bitcoin fairly well. If you want to trade them back and forth like gaming tokens they don't care. If you want to trade them for product you'd better pay your taxes. If you want to trade them for cash you better have a license. They are assimilating Bitcoin into their system very effectively. When they bust someone for a crime and confiscate their Bitcoins do they wipe the hard drives and auction off the computers? No, they have a separate auction for the Bitcoins. That says not only do they see the value of Bitcoin but feel confident they can regulate your freedom to use it as you see fit.

That's not the end of Bitcoin but it is the end of Bitcoin's radical value to facilitate societal change. It is quickly becoming nothing more than a private ACH/EFT system with lower fees (I would expect lower fees at this point because it's not processing as many transactions as ACH). Instead of the ACH/EFT system happening seamlessly behind the scenes when you use a debit card you must first purchase ACH tokens (btc) for the value of the money you want to send. Eventually that system will be seamless too. You will no longer need to go to coinbase and buy btc to send and the store will take those btc and exchange them. Companies like MasterCard or Visa will do that exchange for you. You will spend in Bitcoin using your special card and the company you purchased from will take those btc and have a merchant service automatically deposit fiat into their account. Over time items will be listed in fiat and the store will accept fiat and you will never know btc was the clearing house used for the value transfer. That's a lot like what happens today isn't it?

The arc is silly but not as bad as the Tower of Babel story. A long time ago a smart person must have asked a Christian, "if God is real why would she have different peoples speak different languages?" Then some idiot made up this CYA story about people tried to build a tower to get to the cloud God lives on. He was pissed because they were getting close to his cloud, so he made all of them speak a different language. They couldn't build together because they couldn't talk to each other. That sounds like the story a 6 year old would make up. It's not very thought out. It doesn't explain how these people migrated to different parts of the world, different dialects within the same language, different character sets, each group of them making up different gods/belief systems and their ability to learn each other's languages. Every religious text has stupid stories like this where some idiot tries to explain the world using the thought process of a child's mind.

When Bitcoin finally becomes fully regulated and widely used like MasterCard I think many early adopters will sell out their holdings at the first giant price spike and stop coming here to post. Think about it, do you go over and hang out at the MasterCard forum? Of course not because MasterCard isn't trendy-edgy-cool. Bitcoin won't be either at that point.

Can you give reasons why they would do that when bitcoin network effect surpasses that of mastercard? The fact of the matter is bitcoin allows you to make transactions without the middle man so even if its regulated i can still send people money p2p without a middleman.

Where do you buy your coins?

Believe it or not, as a kid, when I heard the story of the virgin mary for the first time, I immediately questioned why, if god is so great, he need's to rape mary. This is why I refuse to believe in god. So it's really a case of, either god raped her, or she had sex out of wedlock (more likely) - and what did joseph do? He held his hands high and wide and said, "Do I look like I give a fuck? I get my hole, and dont need to pay maintainance to the bich.."

Just how much did god pay mary for the inconvienience of not only being raped, having to explain to joseph that she's not a test tube, and that it was him when he was pished as a fart, and cant remember..

Oh, I forgot, christians think god is exempt, and is allowed to rape our kid. Yes, mary was someones kid.

And they also mention that jesus christ died for us all the time when in reality he died but ressurected later so whats the point, he didnt really die then, not that big of a sacrifice afterall huh? And its funny that God couldnt think of a better way to forgive the humanity than killing jesus???

I think Christianity has a pretty good grasp on killing. They do it well.

A few other things bother me. After this compassionate God gets pissed at everyone in the world and decides to kill everybody with a flood and bring humanity back to life with incest where did Asians come from?

The whole world was started by Adam & Eve so incest must be ok too.

I'm a sinner so can any of the Christians in this thread tell me what hell will be like? Will I go to a lake of fire and be burned forever? If that's true how will I feel it without the nerve endings in my body?

If I repent and get into heaven what will that be about? Will I be forced to wear white all the time and sing boring church songs with a bunch of two faced people that I hate?

Supposedly you cant hate in the heaven wich is a weird thing because if heaven cant allow evil, means humans wont have freewill anymore since humans obviously can do evil, so God would make us like robots with thoughts already programed and if he can do that and supposedly he will why didnt he do it already?

If there's no sin in heaven then how did that angel Peter Gabriel from genesis get kicked out?

Dont expect too many replies, they just got burnt at stake (and the sequoia is still alive!!)

That's too bad. Hey, you ever thought about God raping an underage virgin and having a baby Jesus out of wedlock? Gods pretty cool after all.

Why would a quarter of the people in this thread like LoupGaroux just walk away from this forum never to return? Are we not fun enough anymore?

are you questioning the authority ?
Why are you questioning, QuestionAuthority's, questioning of authority?
are you questioning questioning QuestionAuthority's questioning of authority or are you questioning questioning QuestionAuthority's authority in questioning and isn't the better question what QuestionAuthority originally questioned?

Why would you question my questioning of the authority of questioning authority?

I been trying to tell him that forever, but he loves it really.. he must be bored flicking through that bible..

Too bad you can't refute anything here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=737322.msg10718395#msg10718395.

Smiley

Refute what? Theres nothing to refute since you never proved anything, why dont you try to refute evolution or that the earth is billions of years old? Smartass

Of course I never proved anything at the link. I simply introduced the way that the universe full of evidence proves that God exists.

The idea that the earth is billions of years old is easily refutable, but it isn't part of this thread. Dumbass.

Smiley

Prove it then and dont say it says so in the bible

I have proven it over and over. But here goes again.

The cause and effect process as explained at https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=737322.msg10718395#msg10718395 is the evidence that the universe could never be as long as billions of years old. Cause and effect has produced marvelous results in plants, animals, and human beings.

Test billiards, the game of pool for cause and effect. Most of us can barely get a ball into the pocket in a two-step cause and effect - something fairly simple. The odds that cause and effect in the presence of entropy can cause a human eye to come into being, is so improbable that it is impossible in the extreme. The further out in years that cause and effect is pushed, the greater has to be its actions to produce a given result, because it has more actions to go through.

Think what you want. But when you think about this deeply and clearly, you will see that the cause and effect of billions of years in the presence of the entropy that abounds can produce nothing but chaos, not the organized machinery of the universe that we see today. Even quantum math will bear this out.

Smiley

Then the only other thing that could have done it is God. Are you forgetting about alien involvement.

How does the cause and effect procces explain that? ''THE EVIDENCE THAT THE UNIVERSE'' Im not talking about the universe, im talking about the earth not the universe, PROVE THAT THE EARTH not the UNIVERSE is not billions of years old.

Is it realistic that it's only 5000 yo?

I hope he's getting full rights to the software and it's closed source so he can recoup some of that overpriced talent through software sales.

Well then I truly don't understand the expense. That makes vBulletin 5 Connect + Mobile Suite Bundle seem like a bargain.

They would still have enough money left to hire 12 of the most talented software engineers from Google, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Ebay and Bloomberg L.P. to work exclusively on the forum for a year. Um yeah,  I expect some pretty fucking amazing things from this software.

It's been posted there are only four full time coders working on the project.  So I guess each of them is three times better than the best from the software companies you listed.  Smiley

If they were paid $187,500 a year for two years ($1.5m) that's $50k a year more than the highest paid software engineer at the best paying companies that I listed. I hope he's getting full rights to the software and it's closed source so he can recoup some of that overpriced talent through software sales.

My expectation for a mill and a half is that the forum sucks my dick everytime I log on and after I make a log it wipes my ass too.

That's a weird exception for forum software dude.  Makes me wonder what you'd expect a sexbot to do.   Facilitate intelligent conversation?  Wink

Well I certainly wouldn't expect Bitcointalk to "facilitate intelligent conversation". That hasn't happened here since early 2011. With $1.5 mil spent they should buy 50 great computers and give them away as a promotion. They would still have enough money left to hire 12 of the most talented software engineers from Google, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Ebay and Bloomberg L.P. to work exclusively on the forum for a year.
